Last night I had the pleasure of visiting Volo Craft Pizza in Swampscott, MA — and wow, what an experience! 🌊🍕 The ambiance right by the water is beautiful, with Boston’s skyline in the distance, and the service made us feel right at home. Owners Pina and Tony are so warm and personable — it truly feels like family when you’re there. Now, the food… absolutely incredible. Having grown up with New York City parents (and with my own background working in a pizza restaurant), I know good pizza when I taste it — and this was next-level. Their Detroit-style Double Trouble pizza with hot honey was out of this world. 🍯🔥 The Caesar salad with fresh-grated cheese was crisp and flavorful, and don’t even get me started on the cannolis with chocolate chips and lemon — pure heaven. 🍋🍫 I’d happily drive 35 minutes any day for this. The pizzas are clearly made with love, and I can’t wait to bring my parents back to try it. If you’re anywhere near the North Shore (or even if you’re not) — do yourself a favor and try Volo. This was our 1st time trying Volo Craft Pizza. Just how good is Volo's Detroit Style? For me, it's about 35 min 𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑤𝑎𝑦 in modest traffic & I'd take that drive any day of the week... that they're open. This was one of the best pizza's I've had, certainly on the North Shore and possibly in New England. There must be 100 pizza joints between my driveway & Volo & I'd have no trouble passing every one of them by. 𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑡'𝑠 how good it was. We got the Detroit Style Veggie. It was dinner for three of us and breakfast the next day for two. Memorably delicious. And that might be the problem: It's hard to imagine properly exploring the menu when that Detroit Veggie is there like a magnet drawing me in to enjoy over & over. But I think I can muster enough self discipline & willpower to branch out to other Volo offerings... maybe on my fifth visit. The sauce is among the best I've had anywhere. The crust has a particularly nice bite - crispy on the bottom, pillowy above, & not on any way gummy. Truth be told, the crust alone is worth the drive so, if you just like a plain cheese, go for it: Volo definitely has the flavors down and Swampscott is so much closer than Michigan. On ours with toppings, the veggies were delicious & sufficiently present without burying the crust, sauce, cheese. There's also just the right touch of olive oil so it's flavor compliments the other ingredients but with no need to blot the top as we've had to do too many times at too many elsewheres. It's a particularly well-balanced pie. If you've never had Detroit Style - I hadn't - you're in for a treat at Volo. Prices are entirely reasonable when compared to their competition especially given the quality of the product. I called in our order - Volo is 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 - and requested a specific pick up time owing to the aforementioned distance. When I got there, the pie was ready & hot - perfect timing. As a takeaway joint, Volo isn't big on ambiance: It's a kitchen with a front door and a counter in between all built to provide delicious food and easy interactions and, on those criteria, it well succeeds. The one-star off on the atmosphere rating is simply reflective of the fact that that's not whay they're there for. I don't know if I was just plain lucky or if nearby parking is generally sufficient but I was able to zip into an on-street space mere steps from the front door. That said, if it happens you need to walk a block or three to pick up 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 order, consider it a healthy start to a tasty and satisfying experience & well worth every step. Can't wait to go back!

The best NY and Detroit style pizza I've had thus far. Savory and sweet combinations are my favorite and they execute this magnificently with their Sirachia pizza. Their topping combinations are top notch from classic to creative, and this little gem seems to be very loved. Despite being tucked away in a little downtown street, this place was flocking with people every time I came around dinner time. Definitely call and order ahead of time. This is THE spot to go for pizza cravings in the North Shore.

Volo has the BEST Detroit style pizza! It's so perfectly cooked. The ingredients are fresh. The staff and owner are incredibly accommodating. This is a must-try on the North Shore!

We had the Detroit style pizza and it was amazing. The crust was perfectly crispy, the sauce and mozzarella were perfect. They have one table inside and the owners are very genuine and made us feel at home.

The pizza at Volo Craft Pizza is top notch in the North Shore. They offer NY style pizza and Detroit style. Their Detroit style pizza is done right, crust was a perfect crisp with that sauce on top--especially for a New England joint. Also a hot take but the luau pizza is very tasty here. You might not agree with pineapple on pizza... but it's dang tasty here. Sticky wings was mid--not bad unless you're really craving an appetizer. Also located at a location with spectacular views of the Boston skyline. Cheers

Honestly the Best Detroit style pizza I've ever had in my life! It was lucky for us to walk in to small pizza shop during our engagement photo shoot on cloudy Sunday afternoon. The business was pretty small and they maybe had one table but people were eating outside since the weather was so nice and they've got tables outside. We ordered Margherita and Double Trouble (pepperoni, jalapeños, hot honey) with Detroit style as we were starving! The pizzas were so tasty, the dough was perfect, cheese was melting in our mouth, and crust was perfectly crispy. The only thing we regret is that we did not try New York Style pizza as we wonder how delicious it would be! Also, they don't do slices so you need to buy whole pizza. I just wish the place is nearby so we can have these yummy pizza slices every day!

My son and I have been wanting to try Volo for a while, we are very happy we did! We ordered two NY classic cheese pizzas and one Detroit cheese pizza. Both styles were delicious, my son loved the Detroit style, I'm not a fan of thick crust pizza, but it was good. Both of us loved the NY style pizza's. Great customer service, The sweet lady opened the door for my daughter carrying the pizzas to the car. Highly recommend Volo Craft Pizza !

Saw this spot on Dave P's TikTok. We just moved to the area from out of state. Best pizza we've had around here, hands down, give it a shot!

What a nice place and a nice pizza! I had the chance to finally visit Volo, which i have heard so much about over the past 6 months. There is nothing like going to a place that you have wanted to. visit for a long time! Upon entering the shop, the first thing I was surprised about was how small it was. A small store-front a very busy street, for sure. As you can see in the pictures, there is not alot of room. However, I didn't let that bother me. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and personable. I ordered a cheese pizza. They have two types (NY- circle pizza and Detroit- square pizza). I chose the NY. The phone was ringing off the hook for take-out. I did not see any signs of a delivering service but that may be out back....not sure. The menu is full of great things, other than pizza. Next time I visit, I will try the wings as it seemed like alot of people were calling in for wings! The Celtics were playing in an hour so I figured people were watching the game and chowing down on pizza, wings and salad! What a great way to spend a Sunday! Back to my experience, when I got my pizza, I was surprised how fast it came out. I like the weight (not too heavy) and it didn't see too hot. When I got to my car, I opened the top and it was not steaming...which is good news for the roof of my mouth. The pizza tasted awesome. The sauce and cheese were perfect. It was not burn't and the crust was awesome. The pizza was cut in 6 slices, which was different but not bad. I will definitely return with family. Maybe place and order and sit by the ocean and have a picnic! 5-stars......but this pizza does not crack my top 5, which includes Regina's, Leone's, Armando's, Louie's and Sophie T's I put in the same class as Mario's and Cape Ann Pizza Miscellaneous: - price is good - parking is tough but you just need to be patient - only one table inside....small - drinks: Coke products

This is the best pizza in the boston area, period. The drive up to Swampscott is beautiful, and makes getting the cheesy, saucy Detroit style pizza a special treat. Not only is the food delicious but the family who owns it is so sweet and helpful--they kept bringing out extra napkins for us as we made a mess scarfing down the pizza. We had the 'Roni and a sausage and soppressata pizza, but the table next to us got a vegetarian pizza that looked incredible too. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu

A simple concept-- good pizza to-go. What else could you need? Don't skip out on the Detroit style pie. Fluffy, caramelized crust with the most perfect combo of high-quality cheese and sauce. There's not much else to say here, the product speaks for itself.

If you hate pizza, check out Volo craft pizza. You will be converted. If you love pizza, you've come to the right spot. Fair warning, this is a takeout spot. Don't expect to sit and enjoy your pizza inside. Either you live near the restaurant or go to a friends house in the area and drive as fast and as safely as you can so you can enjoy the best Detroit style pizza/one of the best pizza's in the state. If those aren't options, find a parking spot and eat it on the beach across the street. Don't forget to get some meatballs, they were very good. Next time I'll get a meatball sub. The New York style was good but I wouldn't rank it best in state but I think very good. Dave from Barstool would rank it 7.8 probably. The Detroit style though is at least 8.4 if not better. Get the pepperoni, you won't regret it!

People from Detroit come here for the pizza. The crispy cheesy crust is so so good. I don't love a ton of sauce and this was just right. Burnt the roof of my mouth and don't even care. Went with cheese and half roni since it was my first time here but will go for the parm white pizza next time.

HOLY SHIIIIAT. This place is the bomb. Living in Chicago for six years and loving Peaquods pizza this is the closest thing I've found by far to it. I just love that somewhat burnt crispy crust and volo absolutely killed it. I've never tried Detroit style pizza before today but it was so delicious. Not as thick as Chicago deep dish pizza but just as good if not better . Friendly staff taking phone orders and pick up. Its a hole in the wall place that does takeout only, I'm sure if they opened a full service restaurant with seating...they would make even more of a killing. We sat in our car near the water and enjoyed eating the pizza right out of the box. Bravo! Support local.

I've been here sooooooo many times! They're always a 10/10.. service is always friendly and patient , food is quality , fresh ,homemade .. but today i tried their sandwiches and OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! The bread is soft and chewy the meatballs were the best meatballs I've ever had in my life hands down! They should sell them frozen from here on out! You can never go wrong with VOLO

Tiny shop. I did see a table or two but would consider this a take-out only place. Everything seemed clean and organized. I ordered my pizza at the counter and went for a walk along the beach while it was prepared. When I picked up my order (2 Detroit Style Pizzas), I was surprised by the weight. These fellas are heavier than your normal pizza. Even with the heft of the pie, the crust feels light and fluffy when eaten. The cheese is generous and the sauce is fantastic. I've rarely wanted more sauce on a pizza, but I did want more of this time. Counter service was quick and efficient. Parking can be a bit hard to find depending on the season and time of day. They are located directly across from the beach, so you may have to walk a bit from your car to their door. Volo is a bit out of the way for me, but I am going to make the effort to get here more often.

I tried this establishment for the first time today and got the Detroit Style Parm prosciutto pizza. It was literally one of the best pizzas I've ever had!! So delicious, so tasty, so filling!

I liked their Detroit style pizza. Unfortunately the bottom stuck to the paper and then there was almost no way to eat it without eating some paper with it. I will say that I had super high expectations after hearing all of the great things about the pizza and while I thought the pizza was good, it didn't meet the bar that I was expecting.

I'm originally from NYC and I haven't found any pizza anywhere that compares. VOLO compares!!! It's absolutely delicious. The ingredients are fresh and truly perfection in a pie We ordered both the Detroit style and the New York and couldn't choose which was better. They were both so good! Buy extra cause for breakfast it just can't be beat!!! Run don't walk. ;)

When arriving in Swampscott and heading for our Airbnb, we decided takeout was our best option. Based on Yelp reviews, we tried Volo and was so impressed! I've never had Detroit style pizza, so of course we had to try it! Crispy crust, lots of cheese, super thick! We went with the Brussels white pizza (although now I wanna try the red version!). Staff was very friendly, pizza was promptly ready. Cash preferred, no seating inside. Grab a pie and head to the park across the way! If I'm ever here again, I'll def visit!

Friendly, small restaurant near the ocean in Swampscott across from King's Beach. The deep dish pizza is delicious! I love the buffalo chicken. So happy to find this place. Great service, consistent quality.

I love pizza and can it eat it every day. I came here just to try the Detroit Style Pizza. It was amazing. We make pizza at home and and it is the best. The screw is the sauce and the crust. The owners were so friendly. There was no seating strictly take out but they had a small table outside which they brought in just for us. We also brought our own beer knowing they didn't serve it there. We drank our beer and has their wonderful pizza. The sauce was delicious. The crust was crunchy towards the edges. The lacing was so good. Right to the edge. We ordered the double trouble, left off the honey and added red onions. The sauce was tangy and so flavorful. Come to find out they use San Marzano tomatoes. The owner said they use exact specifications and I wondered about the Wisconsin brick cheese. The crust was crunchy in the bottom and edges but the inside was soft and airy. It was a little thicker than I like and I liked for the cheese in the crust and they were not visible. However it did not take away from the flavor and overall experience. The owners were great. Wonderful. They welcomed us like we were family visiting. And they even gave us a canoli to try which was amazing!! Fresh shell, fresh filled the ricotta filling was so smooth and not too sweet. By the way, she is from the North End! We will go back. The best!

I've had New York style pizza before from other restaurants, but I've never had Detroit style. So, I ordered the the classic cheese at Volo - Detroit style. When I say this is the best pizza I ever had, I mean it. Anyone can easily tell that Volo's Detroit style pizza comes from the highest quality ingredients available. It is absolutely delicious. The sauce is fresh and seasoned perfectly. It has a wonderful robust flavor. The cheese and pizza dough were cooked perfectly. The dough was soft inside and the outside was crispy. Considering the amount of cheese that was on top, I was surprised to see that there was very little grease. If you are in Swampscott and are looking for an unbelievably satisfying pizza to eat, please do not look anywhere else. This is the one.

First time in yesterday. Got the Detroit Style Roni. Awesome pie. Wish they were closer to Medford. Give it a try. Worth the drive. Eat in the car or at home but NOT in the pizzeria. No tables or chairs. Top shelf pizza.

The deep dish pizza is amazing, saucy and cheesy goodness! My kids prefer the thin pizza. It's always busy so give yourself time when ordering.

Worth the hype! Came here Friday night for a takeout pizza to eat by the water Line was out the door Might not be my everyday choice (one pizza weighed about 2 pounds) But this is the best pizza in the north shore for my money Will be back!

My BFF's husband is a huge fan so I brought him a Detroit style pie and it was amazing! We are big fans of Italian thin crust but this is a wonderful addition to expand our pizza loving horizons! These guys got it covered no matter the geographical cravings!

I got two pizza pies. The NY cheese and the Detroit roni. I enjoyed the Detroit roni the most. The NY cheese was like other thin crust Italian I've had. It's good, even great; I've had it before however. I have a local pizza place that offers similar thin crust Italian. Similar sauce and cheese. The pizza that stood out was the Detroit roni. The Sicilian was heavy, yet light. Not light on the wallet at $24 but worth it. The roni was the best I've had on a pizza. The best ever. The dough was crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. Cheese on the bottom and sauce on top. I think it's the perfect pizza. I'll be back Volo. I'm about a half hour away but it's worth the trip for that Detroit style Sicilian. Service was fast. 10 out 10. Will repeat. A+

The Detroit style pizza is amazing! We got the pollo, chicken, sauce,ricotta and mozzarella. Only one small table seating so they do mostly take out. We have had the Detroit style in Detroit and this was just as good.

Wowowowow. Only had one other Detroit-style pizza but the rest can't possibly be as good. This crispy, buttery, soft dough is in a league of its own. Two pieces and you are satisfied for the day. The sauce is sweet and just perfect. The cheese knows its role as well - let the sauce and the dough do it's thing and don't dare upstage the stars of the show. One of the best pizzas on the north shore. And the traditional pizza is top notch as well. Grab a piece, sit by the ocean, and just realized how blessed you are.

The best pie on the north shore no in Massachusetts. As a New York resident they killed the New York style... and get me started on Detroit I never had Detroit style until Volos and it's just some of the best pizza. Im a Roni man and if you love the Ron gotta try their Roni. The owners we're lovely hope business is booming!

The pizza here is so different but delicious. I love the way it's cooked. The flavor of the sauce is outstanding. The quality of the toppings are top-notch. I highly recommend their pizza. If you want something different come here.

Excellent pizza with all incredibly fresh ingredients. Detroit style pizza is crispy and chewy, but at the same time light and airy! We had family members visiting from Florida and we were excited to order from volo to impress them with how great the local food is. Every time we order from Volo it is truly a treat. Yum!

Amazing doesn't do it justice. We came here to refuel after a fundraising run in Swampscott. We were drawn by the 5-star reviews and simply could not miss out. You have the option to order NY or Detroit style pizza. We opted for the Detroit since that's what all the hype seemed to be about. The pizzas are large so I like that you can pick two flavors on each pizza. We did a half classic cheese and half Bianca (sausage, Cremini mushrooms and olives). We were a little worried about the amount of red sauce but damn, that was one tasty sauce. The dough was soft and chewy, the cheese pull so aesthetically pleasing. We ate faster than we'd like to admit. The family that runs this place is Italian and super friendly, we'll definitely be back.

Brilliant. While NY style dominates the area I was pleasantly surprised to see Detroit Style available on the north shore. It did NOT disappoint. I can't go back to my usual pizza place now. Phenomenal. Friendly staff, love the takeout style. Will be back! Keep up the great work.

Flavors - 3/5 Textures - 3/5 Presentation - 4/5 Value for Money - 4.5/5 Would return? Yes Must-try: The Deep Dish Pizza tastes better at room temperature than hot. DEEP DISH PIZZA: the dough was chewy, the border was perfectly cheesy and crispy and the sauce on top was full of flavor. I would've liked the bottom to be prispier, because it was too soft. One slice is sooo much food! Overall very delicious, but nothing out of the ordinary. NY STYLE PIZZA: I did not like this one. I got the Cremini Mushroom Pizza and it was ok - I liked the toppings at first but got tired very quickly. The dough, for some reason, did not taste great either. It was soggy and it looked like it didn't rise correctly. So DO get the Deep Dish Pizza, but I'd pass on the NY-style Pizza.

This pizza is Thick , buttery and just a perfect edge of toasted cheese on the edges. It's the perfect Detroit pizza and everything from the ingredients to the owners are the best of the best. This pizza is in its own category

The best pizza around. It is off the charts and I'm apprehensive to tell people because sometimes they run out. They should open more locations but I feel they don't do it for the money but for the love of perfect pizza.

Best DSP pizza anywhere in Massachusetts. This is what to get here and the owner has it down. He went to Detroit to get certified in Detroit pizza and it paid off, sauce applied warm post bake and everything on point Can't recommend enough

We came back for the wonderful Detroit pepperoni pizza but also got a salad. It was big and full of delicious greens, fruits, feta, walnuts and beets. So glad I gave it a try

I read great reviews about Volo so decided to try it out for myself. I ordered the Roni Detroit pizza with a cannoli for dessert. Both were absolutely amazing! The pizza and sauce are full of flavor! The owner is super nice and friendly! I definitely recommend trying them out if you haven't already. I will definitely be coming back!!
