Where Simileoluwa Adebajo Finds Community In San Francisco

"Voodoo Love is owned by Chef Eva, and she does new Creole and new Cajun cuisine, a modern take on those classics from New Orleans. I got to know Chef Eva because her restaurant was right around the corner from my 11th Street location. At some point I remember walking by one day and seeing somebody with this lovely, very curly, bouncy hair. And I was like, Who is this lady? We should be in food sisterhood. What’s special about her restaurant is that she puts herself into the food, into the menu, and into the experience that she wants people to have when they come to Voodoo Love. My favorite thing is the cornbread muffins with honey butter on top. They’re so good. Whatever you get is going to be good - but just order a side of the cornbread muffins in addition, and it’ll be better. I was shamelessly addicted to these at some point in time. She can attest to this." - simileoluwa adebajo 1

Celebrated my birthday here last weekend. All the food was amazing and delicious. The staff were wonderful and we can't wait to return on our next trip to San Francisco!

Google
I really want to love this place. The atmosphere is great. I love authentic Gumbo, and went with that. And the broth was dark and rich - there just wasn’t much of it. Under the generous protein was at least two servings of rice that made up the bulk of the dish. Please give me a bowl of gumbo with rice on the side, thank you. My partner’s Blackened Catfish was exceptional, the highlight of the evening. She loves Rice and Beans, ordering a side, but again, it was mostly rice with some beans thrown in and very dry. Where’s the bean juice? Service was great. I want to give it another try because they have the fundamentals.

Google
The best SF restaurant we visited so far as a tourist. Please don’t hesitate to try out here. We were initially going to get the fried chicken but ended up getting nicer recommendation by the chef. If you ever happen to visit here, definitely get Mac and Cheese and Shrimp&Gritz. You won’t regret it! Worth of every dollar you spend.

Google
Great little spot with exceptional service. The bar tender/wait staff are awesome. They made good drinks and gave good recommendations on food. They also helped us find other local digs in the area to check out. Big thank you to Phil who brought my purse back to me after I left it at the restaurant. Highly recommend!

Google
Delicious cajun food in a classic bar environment. We had a bit of trouble getting seated initially during lunch time on a weekday as there wasn't any host/hostess for 10 minutes or so and were greeted to an empty restaurant. Finally we were seated and ordered and I was very impressed by the gumbo. Extremely authentic deep roux with all the fixings like shrimp and sausage and crab. Good portions and a unique touch to have an arugula salad on the side which is my favorite salad.

Google
Great little hidden gem for unique food. Waitress was super nice and the food was amazing. We had steak shrimp and fried catfish with collard greens and red beans w rice. The collards are not to be underestimated! Unique crispy taste with wonderful seasoning. We would eat here again for sure. Loved it!

I have been to places with great. Customer service, but this place blows all out of the water. As we got seated we noticed it was a very classy place. The lighting was perfect. The staff was more than friendly, very welcoming. The chef came out and asked us what we wanted. She was great with our very picky u year old daughter. She made her chicken that my daughter called heavenly. Not a word she ever uses. I ordered the gumbo and the sangria which were to die for. The Bison Burger my son had was amazing. He was quiet the whole time he ate it and had the look of bliss. My wife had the Mahi Mahi on red beans and rice and was blows away by the flavors. The server was extremely kind and very attentive. They created a dining experience I feel will be once in a lifetime. Next time we come back to Cisco we will definitely be back. Thank you guys! You all are amazing.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in San Francisco on Belden Place (a little alley) off Pine Street. If you work near the Financial District and have never been here, you're missing out. I don't think many people know this place exists as it's a little hidden being out of view and off the hidden path. We were the only patrons in the restaurant at noon. But let me tell you, please find this place, because you're missing out. I went with coworkers on our lunch break. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The roux was VERY authentic Creole! And those grits...yummm! My family is from Louisiana and it's the real deal. The shrimp were more like prawns and grits. Wild caught and so delicious! Nice healthy portions. My coworkers ordered the catfish plate, pineapple bowl and shrimp po boy. Everybody enjoyed what they ordered. The service was great. The chef and our server were both really nice. The ambiance and decor were spot on with the New Orleans theme. Zydeco music was playing the entire time we were there. You definitely felt like you were in a New Orleans restaurant on Bourbon Street. This place is a must try! Please stop by and support this establishment and spread the word.

Yelp
The place was hard to find, hidden in an alleyway with no clear signage on the exterior of the restaurant, but inside, what a lovely surprise! Beautiful decor and lighting to set the mood. And serving endless options for cajun/creole cuisine. The major mac (seafood mac n cheese) was outstanding, so creamy with generous amounts of seasoned shrimp, crawfish, crab, and lobster, I couldn't get enough. And I tried the mahi mahi stacked, and that was some tasty fish! The cocktails were also impressive, the whiskey sour and evacaine full of flavor, the latter was especially both sweet and strong, the perfect complement to our meals. Staff was great, checked on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. And the wait time was reasonable, we were seated right away when we arrived, and it took about 15-20 minutes for our food to be ready after we ordered (this was on a Saturday evening). A great experience overall.

Yelp
Voodoo Love Child is tucked in Belden place. The ambiance is super cute. It's great for a date or a meal with friends. Service is absolutely amazing. Our server gave us recommendations and we even got to meet the chef and mastermind of the place. I got the fried fish po boy sandwich and it was so good! It was a generous piece of fish and it was fried to perfection. I only ate half and was full! My friend got the shrimp and grits and it smelled so good that I'm definitely trying that next time. My friend and I shared the banana foster and it was the best banana foster I ever had in my life. I could've probably eat 3 of those! Voodoo Love Child is a gem and I highly recommend!

Yelp
I had a great time here and want to go back soon. Good is incredible nothing short of excellent for what you pay for. If you're searching for good flavorful food that isn't too unhealthy, yet still American this is your spot. Ambiance Is chill for a date night or even a casual business meeting. Service is good food comes in a timely manor.

Yelp
Came in to get to-go during the Thursday work lunch rush. But I didn't have to wait too long for my food. I think they just had a Mardi Gras Event as decorations were still up, how fun! I got a plate lunch for $25 and it is a great deal! You get to pick one protein and two sides of your choice. Your protein can even be fried, or grilled for your preference. So I chose crispy shrimp for the protein, and gouda mac-n-cheese and crispy brussel sprouts for the sides. Shrimp were more like prawns, super juicy, and they were breaded in cornmeal. The mac and brussel sprouts were delicious as well, but they are definitely not "side" sized. I'd say they were close to entrée size. This set can last you two meals! It came in 3 big to-go bowls to separate all the items. My colleague ordered 2 sides: red beans and rice, and the yams. The yams are definitely the hidden gem. None of it covered in heaps of sugar and cinnamon. Just enough to spotlight the natural flavors, and man it just melts in your mouth... Red beans and rice were flavorful too, although I think the roux could have been made a little thicker to really just bind it all even better. Our food came with sauces on the side. I'm also a fan of their packaging for to-go orders overall. I heard they moved to the Belden alley from the Mission District. The space inside is cozy. Bar looks great for after-work drinks. Since they're in the middle of Fi-Di, it'd be great for catering in food for lunch or parties. The owner was super friendly and answered all our questions we had for catering opportunities in the future. Come check them out and give them some love.

Yelp
Ok, I'm Creole so had high hopes. The setting is cute, with a nice bar area. Unfortunately, the Shrimp & Grits fell short of that Creole/Cajun bite. The plate was plentiful, but the grits were stiff and the sauce was more of a brown, mild gravy vs a butter/tomato sauce. The other selections seemed to satisfy my co-workers, but they chose somewhat "safe" dishes. I think they def have the opportunity to do better, flavor-palette wise. As I'd like to see a Creole place survive.

Yelp
This is a wonderful spot. It's a little out of the way for me, but if you frequent the area then you should definitely stop in for a boozy brunch. The service is kind and efficient. The restaurant itself is really cute with tin ceilings and eclectic decor. The food breakdown: Mimosas: They have $15 bottomless mimosas served in giant wine glasses. There's a splash of grenadine just to make it extra pretty. Whole Chicken Wings: These saucy wings were delicious though I almost never notice truffle unless the other flavors are really subtle. This dish packs a punch. Sliders: They were out of jackfruit that day so we had nopales (cactus), chicken, and bison. I feel like the plating could be more interesting compared to the other dishes, but there's no denying that everything was good. Make A Plate!: This menu item lets you choose a protein and two sides. My boneless fried chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy. Crispy brussels sprouts had a slight tang that was lovely. The smoked Gouda Mac and cheese is killer! Get it. I'm even going to try making this at home because it's genius.

Yelp
Not being dramatic when I say this was the absolute worst dining experience I've ever had. Came here on a Friday night for a friends birthday with a large group and were basically the only patrons at the event at a restaurant on a busy street in SF. which says something. Our waiter kept telling us he didn't know what he was doing and even though we were one of two tables at the restaurant, service was slow as can be. My friend ordered the macaroni and cheese and not only was it bland but it came complete with a roach in it. The server was completely incompetent and when we showed him the bug his first response was "what do you want me to do about it?" From murmurs we heard through the restaurant, the bartender was also acting as the cook the night we were there because they were short staffed. While I understand how the bartender must've been frustrated by the position she was put in, she redirected her frustration at me through sass and eye rolling when I asked questions about our complicated bill and waited to put my card down on a $325 bill until I understood what I was paying for. Additionally, they tried to CHARGE US for the INSECT MAC AND CHEESE and when I pushed back on this they gave me attitude until they finally resentfully gave in. At the end of the night, my friend ordered a drink at the bar and asked the cost, the bartender said "just take the f*cking drink, I don't make the prices of the drinks" The cherry on top of the whole ordeal was that the food was BAD. $8 for French fries with a little bit of seasoning is insane. Oil drenched collared greens isn't something you should serve at a restaurant. The red beans and rice were bland as can be. They claim to have vegetarian and vegan options but it's comparable to vegetarian options at a steak house. If you're looking for better southern food in SF, try Brenda's instead. AVOID. **correction per Managers comment as seen below. I came to ask questions to clarify about the bill since there were so many people and I was confused. I understand large parties are annoying for businesses, but if you can't handle it with grace then don't allow them. In no way did I not want to pay, I just wanted to understand. Apparently I should not be asking questions about a 10 person bill that I pay on. And I definitely should not ask questions about a bill where there were bugs about the food. May god bless your business and your recent influx of poor reviews

Yelp
So glad we found this gem! And got to meet the owner - she's amazing! My husband has been on the search for the best Mac and cheese, and for flavorful dishes (he's particular). We were staying at the Omni in SF and found Voodoo Love within walking distance. It's a cute Nee Orleans styled restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating. The drinks were strong and good! Just how he likes them. We ordered the Major Mac and a side of catfish...my husband has never finished his whole plate but here he did! I ordered the Voodoo loco with voodoo gravy, which was delicious, and he finished that too. All around, great food, good staff, great drinks, good location...a total vibe. We will definitely be returning.

Yelp
What a cute little hidden gem. I definitely would have missed this place, if I didn't look it up first. It's inside an alley street, but very close to Bart. Another reason why I picked this place. Lucky my friend made reservations, and they closed the place for us. We had our own private intimate party just for our little party of 5. The drinks with very flavorful with fresh fruits. Those drinks were my friends, and no complaints from any one of them. We were greeted by the chef; who personally gave us all the wonderful recommendations. I like how nothing is spicy on the menu, unless upon request. I can't handle any spicy food. I ordered the major Mac, and wow everything tasted fresh. The noodles, seafood, sauce and etc. I also ordered the saucey fries, and it was fresh & saucey as the name suggested. I liked the bison slider more than the fried chicken slider. But both were equally as good, with the perfect amount of sauce with every single bite. The staff were all super friendly and attentive. Especially Phil with all me crazy demands, and had no complaints and served me with genuinely happy smile. They do bottomless mimosas on Sunday, and I will return with some alcoholic friends. Best surprise was beignets from the lovely and talented chef. I felt vip here, without paying the vip price. This place deserves a 10 stars!

Yelp
So I'm still here at the restaurant and had to start reviewing because this place should be packed. You walk in, and it's like walking into New Orleans. And not in a cheesy way. But a soulful and beautiful way. The drinks are delicious. The chef has been on chopped. She's so good! Order the "neck of the woods," and you will have a fabulous blowtorch show. Woman owned and operated. The food is authentic, Cajun, with a San Francisco flare. Can't say enough... so just come here already.

Yelp
Back again. Restaurant was nicely decorated. I was the first customer. Owner got the music flowing and we were good to go. She welcomed me as she did previously. Staff were friendly and checked in to see if I need anything. Them shrimp and gritz were on point. Thanks again. See you soon.

Yelp
Had a great red beans and rice (vegan) dish! I don't often have Cajun food and want to try more. Had a nice dinner here with friends It came with red beans cooked with rice along with a salad. Portions are on the smaller end Overall good vibes and friendly staff here!

Yelp
Tucked away in an alley in SF financial district, this place is a hidden gem. The owner was our host and the ambiance was super chill. Good vibes good food and great energy.
google avatar

Eddie H.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing. Place tucked in the alley way but real convenient. Everything on the plate hit right. Service was so friendly and inviting. Definitely going back to try everything on the menu
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food and drinks! The owner was on Food Networks show "Chopped" and made it all the way to the end and I totally understand why!
google avatar

Kem M.

Yelp
Food not good having been to New Orleans and married to a man born and raised the food was very disappointing. No season/ flavor, covering food in hot sauce and garlic is not season. The man running the floor was great and very understanding. I see why the place was empty and the owner/ cook wasn't even in the building. Only gave it the one star for the raspberry lemon drop I had.
google avatar

Yelp
The phone number listed might be outdated or something, but I called a couple of times on different days but didn't get an answer. Might want to keep that in mind if you try calling! The staff here is great and super welcoming, very casual, I love the vibes. I ate here 4 times in the past week and the food was awesome every single time. My favorite was the gumbo, but shrimp and grits, fries, jambalaya, catfish was all scrumptious. Loved the drink, Banana Bite. Might not be on the paper menu yet but it's good, like an Arnold Palmer but non-alcoholic. Got a caramelized banana floating in it. Another thing that ain't on the menu but delish -- beignets. Best dang beignets I ever had. How do they fry and boil and stew and salad everything so well? And there's even presentation, at these prices, wow. Can't wait to come back here next time I'm in town when (hopefully) crawfish from Louisiana is available. No really, how is this place not filled to the brim every night? For a casual time and amazing eats I can't think of anywhere better.

Yelp
This space is tucked away in a cool restaurant alley in the financial district and the interior decor is beautiful. Our party visited on a weekday evening and it was pretty empty inside. The portion sizes--especially the seafood boil--were generous and our waitress was super friendly! We ordered 2 of their seasonal cocktails, which were both a little bit strong for my liking but nonetheless delicious. We also ordered a side of brussel sprouts, which were delightful and well seasoned. I was pleasantly surprised that the half-size Hoodoo Seafood Boil was much larger than I expected. The flavor was delicious and the seafood was pretty fresh. The shrimp and crab legs were especially good. Unfortunately, we didn't receive potatoes or cornbread, which were listed as part of the dish on the menu. Overall, this restaurant is a wonderful and relaxed space to get dinner or catch up with friends over a delicious pile of crab legs!

Yelp
Visited this past Sunday, had reservations at noon. It was not packed so more food for us! Really loved the vibe of the restaurant. New Orleans, Mardi Gras theme. I also love the location, great addition to Belden Place. I'm so happy there's a restaurant like this in the heart of the city! We loved everything we ordered. Crawfish etouffe, Red beans and rice, Gumbo and hush puppies. We definitely wanted to order more but so full, we'll have to go back very soon. We were eyeing the Mac and cheese! We had 2 cocktails each , all so delicious. I forget the names but tequila and gin. Oh, one was their sangria, which was one of the best I've had. Very interesting and delicious cocktails, can't wait to go back and order more. I also liked the small business vibe to the place. It felt great to support a local business AND it was delicious!! Service was very attentive and super nice. We'll be back!!

Yelp
I planned to meet a friend today Friday September 30, 2024 for happy hour/ dinner. I was looking forward to the fried fish (I had been to the restaurant before and enjoyed fish and grits) and Voodoo Love was CLOSED. On a Friday at 6 pm. No notice online, I even checked Instagram, no notice. Wasted gas, time and energy.
google avatar

Tiara B.

Yelp
This place can easily be missed from the streets but definitely worth the visit. Went here for dinner while in San Francisco and I have no regrets! The costumer service alone is enough to return. The vibe and atmosphere is so N'orlens easy and chill. The restaurant ALMOST gave speakeasy vibe. The food is good, decent portions and decent quality but the drinks were even better! Highly recommended if you're in the area and in the mood for some home style Creole cooking.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Their Bison burger is nasty and has a weird chemical after taste. Don't waste your money here.

A S.

Yelp
Fun place for a casual, work, or romantic meal. The Mardi Gras upbeat vibe hits you as soon as you step in. Everyone loved their entree - Pineapple Fo' Yo Soul Bowl (Creole flavor - NOT Hawaiian or Asian, as one may assume), Fish and Gritz (sautéed shrimp atop a bed of grits WITH smacking gravy! Voted as the group's Favorite. Just look at the picture!), Da Catfish Plate (huge piece with the perfect crunch!), Dat Fuqin Seafood Roll (loaded with lobster, shrimp and crawfish and dripping with seafood and yummy juice, yet the ACME roll kept its delicate crunch!). We had their Beignets, of course. Theirs was on the moist and dense side, unlike the fluffy ones I'm used to, like in Disneyland. Each dish tasted specially different from other dishes of the name. Our palates were so pleased with our main entrees that a couple of people decided to order more food-to-go to share with their families, including the gumbo! The family feedback was "loved it!" Chef Eva's green sauce is delicious on everything! I kid you not! We didn't try their cocktails as we had to return to work. Their bar was loaded, though, and we do not doubt their drinks would be bomb just like their food. Definitely a hidden gem in the Financial District's Belden Place alley, which you will leave dancing and wanting to return!

Yelp
Amazing little hide a way!! Food and service was absolutely fantastic!! The fried greens was my favorite
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing! I had the crawfish cakes...moist, not dry and all meat! The green sauce is a must have as well. Killer mezcal margaritas by Gary will definitely put a smile on your face too;)!

Yelp
I loveeeeee this place a hidden gem for sure and the vide is amazing. I love that's its ln SF
google avatar

Baris B.

Yelp
Best Mac and cheese. They make it with smoked gouda. The menu is extensive (too extensive) but everything we ordered was tasty. The location is great too. Bottomless mimosas were elevated with dashes of various liquors and not just mix orange juice with some random champagne.
google avatar

Joseph A.

Yelp
It's a cool space just on the edge of the Mission, that has a dive bar feel, but can also make some solid Southern Food. Tonight I had the Buttermilk Chicken that is well spiced, and partners well with their Whipped Yams. I ate the Chicken & Yams together. The Collards though needed a Kick , so I mixed in some Tabasco to take them up a notch. It was quiet & rainy tonight, but a few persons were eating in and enjoying the games. For a chill low key honey meal it fits the bill.
google avatar

Ash J.

Yelp
Ordered the vegetarian pineapple fried rice dish which was $18 for a small serving (nice presentation though) and it had sausage in it! The overall taste was quite bland too. On a more positive note, an interesting thing about this place is they use stainless steel containers for takeout for which you have to schedule a pickup to return them.

Yelp
Second time eating at Voodoo Love. Second time eating heavenly Louisiana Cajun-style food without having to put on my chest waders looking out for those pesky gators. Second time for my absolute fantastically gorgeous wife asking me to reproduce (in our home kitchen) what we ate on our second fabulous creole'istic culinary occasion. Hopefully we will be done eating all the leftovers from what my marvelous wife had me reproduce the Red beans and Rice and the, finger-licking, lip-smacking, make you say "dayum" immediately after taking the first bite Gumbo we had. I know my lovely wife loves my cooking, and we are really starting to love eating at Voodoo Love. We absolutely love the service from each and every member of the staff at Voodoo Love. It's a totally different kind of love for the service my wife receives at home. Take it from me (and of course my splendidly loving wife); go and have ANYTHING on the menu at Voodoo Love and you will love what you eat. It's nearly Valentine's Day. So take the one that you love to Voodoo Love and have a lovely culinary experience. Again, that's a lot of love! BON APPETIT! p. s. If you like my reviews, please hit the like button and feel free to share them with your friends..... Or enemies..... Or family members..... I just realized that all those sharing suggestions could actually be just one person. Isn't that a lovely thought?
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the Shrimp & Gritz, the appetizers, and the drinks. There was only one server, but she wanted very attentive to our requests and needs. It has a standard fancy restaurant vibe, and so I would recommend for anyone looking for authentic creole food in the city. Would recommend!
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
Great food, killer atmosphere, and wonderful service. Plus, there's an adorable pup hanging out watching all that's happening. What more could you ask for? I came in on a blustery Wednesday for an early lunch and had the place to myself as they set up. Craving Etoufee but not feeling prawns today (I know, sacrilege), I was at a loss, but they were happy to make it a chicken Etoufee instead. When it came out.. OMG. I haven't had Etoufee like this since that time I got lost in the backwoods of Louisiana! So much flavor. Garlic, butter, herbs, mmmmm. The corn bread muffins just topped it off perfectly. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Rowena N.

Yelp
The food and drinks are to die for! Like an orgasm for your tastebuds... my absolute favorites are the Midnight Sazerac and a Monster Mac and Cheese. You will come back again and again, trust me!
google avatar

Yelp
What a fine! Great food. Friendly service. Cool interior dinning and bar. plus enjoyable outside dinning. we just stumbled upon this place and love it. One of us is from New Orleans and it gave us a good vibe of New Orleans fusion cuisine! Most certainly will be back!!!
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
Great spot! Perfect for happy hour drinks downtown. Excellent beer selection and cocktail menu. The owner is incredibly nice and helpful. We didn't eat dinner, but we got an appetizer with wings, shrimp, crab cakes. Was absolutely delicious. The wings were the best wings I've had in SF. Will certainly be back!
google avatar

Yelp
We started eating takeout here back in 2020 because Voodoo Love partners with Dispatch Goods, the reusable takeout container company. Voodoo Love's food is unmatched, in my opinion. Every time the food is fresh, full of flavor, and delicious. A few weeks ago my husband and I made reservations here before a show. We showed up and they were ready for us. We ordered the chicken wings, the sliders, the Mac n cheese, and the shrimp n grits. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. We had never eaten here in-person but the ambience is really cool inside, too. There seemed like there was an issue with the restaurant next door and a party that was overflowing into VL's space. The Voodoo Love team was steadfast in making sure that their customers were the priority and were well taken care of, and the food was stellar as per usual! The owner is a queen and the bartender is such a hard worker. A dynamic duo!

Yelp
Stumbled into VooDoo Love yesterday and what a treat! Ambiance was lovely; cocktail was delicious and oh the food! I had the seafood roll and it was so good - I was using my fries to get off every last bit off the plate. And Eva, the owner, was so sweet and engaging. Will definitely be back. And bonus that it's a black-woman owned establishment!

Angela R.

Yelp
We ordered take out for dinner and our experience was light years above expectations.Upon arrival, for pick up, I noticed the restaurant atmosphere was true to Voodoo. The food was magical. We felt the love this chef put into each of our dishes. Try the Collard greens and Kale Salad. My friend said the Jambalaya was better than what's found in Louisiana.I'm a health food nut, so I was skeptical. Now I'm sure I could eat at Voodoo Love every day.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Happy New Year! I woke up and decided that I needed to have black eyed peas and Collard greens. Well, being in SF, that is not really an easy thing to get. Well...Voodoo Love Child fixed that! Not only did they have said items but the food was amazing. A special treat was getting to meet the owner/Chef, Eva Morris. She walked in and came directly to our table to check in on our experience. She truly added to the experience. Definitely will return.

Yelp
This woman/owner is whack af. She sucks at events. Charms people cuz she's been on TV but T had nothing to offer. IF she shows you might get some delicious food. She can cook. Her business skills and the fact that she takes advantage of people, employees etc. makes her not a good person. If you want good people to represent you, then be a good people; run a good business. Don't take advantage of the people that help you.

Yelp
You can't miss out on this restaurant in SF Mission District! :) This restaurant far exceeded my expectations. Order its Vegan Pineapple Fo' Yo Soul Bow! You won't regret it! @eat_with_lily

Yelp
I've been following the chef since she had her other location before the pandemic. I was happy to see her open up at Belden Place and I recently saw her on Chopped! I decided to to a lunch here and check it out! I really wanted to try and order everything. I had the make your own plate: mac n cheese, greens and fried chicken! Yumm! Definitely will be back to try other items. I was bummed they were out of the candied yams...but a reason to go back and try everything else!

Yelp
This place is a gem!!! My bf and I have never been to this area but because of the $4.15 yelp deals going on, we discovered this place! And we're so happy we did! We both got the VC Rib Special. One of two choices for the $4.15 deal. And oh my goodness what a deal it was!!! For some reason, by looking at other pictures I was not expecting it to be as big as it was but it was massive! It was a delciously bbqed and breaded. There was bite, crunch, and sauciness. And slight heat both in spice and temp. I'm a slow eater and every bite was nice and hot. It comes in a bahn mi bun! So the texture of the bread was soft with a slight crispness to the exterior. Very complimentary for the hunk of meat. The cajun fries were also delicious and come with a garlic aioli sauce. I really enjoyed dipping my fries and spreading a little bit on my sando too. :) Our service was great too! All the staff were friendly and attentive. And the interior is really cute. I believe it was previously a music hall so there are architecural elements thst are really unique and just make the dining experience more fun. There's a stage so I wonder if it'll ever be utilized for performances some day in the future. Forgot to ask but next time hehe. If we hadn't been hopping around the city for other $4.15 deals we definitely would have ordered a bunch more. But we are excited to come back and try more of their menu! Defs recommend!

Yelp
The place is amazing. Tuck away in a little alley way you will find an amazing staff that welcomes you like you know them forever. The chef/owner is so great she recommended the best dining option for me and my friends. The food was soooo good and plentiful. Really enjoyed this place. When I am in town I will always come back.

Yelp
On Saturday, 4/13, I invited family and friends for dinner to celebrate my birthday. I delayed writing this because I feel that some parts are surreal... I will break it up in a few parts. I really wanted to love this place and was excited to try something new and support a black woman owned restaurant. Reservations: I tried to reserve online through Google Assistant. Something told me to call to confirm our party of 11, and after a few attempts, I was able to connect with someone. She was nice and kind, made me excited for dinner. The beginning: the first half of us showed up, waiter offered us water. After the rest of the party arrived, waiter never returned. Eventually I called him over and asked if we could get water for everyone and order our food. Our waiter brought us bottles of water and said that there are items NOT available. Ok, no problem... What are they? He said he had to go get the LIST! The list??? Oh and there were never more than two couples in the restuarant while we were there. And one person at the bar. The middle: waiter came back with the list of unavailable dishes and it was because they had a large party the day before. Um, ok luckily they weren't anyone's order. I would have liked to know BEFORE we had to wait over 20 mintues to place our order. Then I asked for cornbread and he said he had to check -- again. Came back and said no cornbread. Wait! What?!? Not going to lie... I said I needed a drink. Our party was too large to find another place to eat so we stayed. We placed our food orders and off he went. I asked for a drink. Waiter took my order and didn't ask anyone else. When he came back with my drink I asked if he could get everyone's drink order as well. Sharing some of the dishes... My brother ordered the tomahawk to find out about 10 mins later that they didn't have it. Disappointed. My niece ordered French toast (it was on the physical menu) got waffles. Ordered a side of greens, it was kale chips and crunchy. My uncle ordered mahi mahi with collard greens, he too got crunchy greens. I ordered catfish with slaw, also got the crunchy greens. Why? That is NOT what we ordered. No apologies or acknowledgment of the inconsistencies. The crab cakes were mostly cornmeal and very little crab meat... I would have preferred the cornbread. Again no cornbread, oh and no, hush puppies. On top of all, with the exception of the mac and cheese, all the food was lukewarm. My mom returned her gumbo to have it reheated. The rest of us just ate our food. The end: we stayed, we ate, we didn't complain just because we know there could be reasons why our experience is the way that it is and really just wanted to have a nice time. I LOVED my time with my family and friends. We laughed and enjoyed each other's company. The music was great and was the best part of the dinner. I wish I can take away more than that... along with a story of this evening because I have never had this kind of an experience before. We left paying with 20% gratuity added and not so much of a check in or acknowledgment of the downfalls. The vegan gumbo cost the same as the meat gumbo ($30)... how is that fair?!?! It would have hurt a little less if we were offered a small snack or something... I know we were not the only customers upset about all the missing menu items.

Yelp
Another amazing food experience! DoorDash couldn't get me a Dasher for almost 2 hours after I ordered and these amazing culinary wizards made sure my food was remade and perfect upon delivery. Wow! Thank you! I absolutely LOVE Dat Fuqin Seafood Roll! Everything about it is amazing and addicting. Excellent quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Comfort food at its best and fanciest! I also ordered the Buttermilk Chicken entree with Cheesy Gritz and Voodoo Rice with gravy, whoa yeah! Super delish! Carb loading love! The chicken is boneless, juicy and the coating is crispy yum! Give this fabulous restaurant a try if you have a hankering for some amazing comfort NOLA cuisine!

Yelp
Great food but even better people. The new location is nice. I haven't had a bad meal here. My favorite is the voodoo mac.

Yelp
50/365: What Voodoo magic conjure up this deliciousness? Here are what we tried recently from this creole restaurant: Dat Fuqin Seafood Roll. $18. Yum! Look at that meaty sandwich filled with lobster, shrimp, a bit of lettuce and garlic aioli in a torpedo bun. Very satisfying. Hubby likes the bread in this sandwich more than the other. The seafood roll came with crispy fries. I had a few. Prime rib sammich. $14. It was salted nicely and tasted good, but my favorite part was the creamy garlic horseradish sauce. Somehow, it made everything comes together. The sandwich came with au jus for dipping and fries. Deviled eggs. $8. I love deviled eggs and these are delicious and beautifully piped then sprinkled with cayenne and chives. Maybe it's Voodoo, maybe it's Love. Whatever it is, food's pretty good. #supportingblackownedbusiness
