"Rubra is a new restaurant by Daniela Soto-Innes located in a lush and stylish corner of the W Punta de Mita hotel on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It features an epicurean garden with a variety of tropical ingredients and offers a refined menu that showcases the vibrant identity of the region. The restaurant combines elegant and casual dining experiences with a focus on innovative cooking techniques." - David Shortell

"More stylish and party-oriented than most of its counterparts in Punta Mita, this hotel likes to play up its proximity to surf-chic Sayulita (20 minutes away) rather than practical but unexciting Puerto Vallarta (home to the airport and less than an hour away). The six dining venues specialize in signature cocktails and original dishes; the exclusive Mesa 1 is on its own private island. W brand loyalists will recognize some of the signature features, like the WET Deck (poolside bar and revelry scene) and AWAY Spa. The 119 guest rooms include 13 suites, all with private balconies and patios that have ocean or jungle views."

Our week at W Punta Mita was a total relaxation! The hotel grounds are nestled in a stunning jungle setting, and the intoxicating scent of Night Blooming Jasmine filled the air – it was magical! The W Spa was an absolute dream. After a massage, relaxing in the pool with the majestic rustling of palm trees overhead and the enchanting songs of the local birds was pure tranquility.|The gym was great too, with beautiful views. We loved working out there in the mornings, often having the whole place to ourselves. The staff were all superb – friendly, attentive, and always went above and beyond. |A huge thanks to Alfredo, our favorite bartender, he's a true master of his craft, and Julio for their amazing service and food recommendations. We can't wait to return to W Punta Mita

Highly recommend!!! What an awesome hotel. My husband and I travel around the world, and this resort was a favourite of ours. We stayed in the exquisite ocean front WOW Suite and it was more than WOW!! The service was impeccable, especially Leonardo who helped with every request and golf carted us wherever we needed, and Daniel at breakfast was also incredible. Our stay was so lovely, with great food, a private beach, and such remarkable amenities- I can’t wait to come back!

Overall a great experience here just after New Years. Had a Jungle Room that was spacious and felt nicely secluded, albeit some parts of the room felt a bit tired. The Jungle Rooms have no adjoining walls but are stacked vertically, so I think our top floor room was helpful in keeping it very quiet. The resort grounds are truly beautiful throughout. The adult pool and beach were fantastic, as was the drink service. Breakfast was great but the on-site restaurants were just OK - we found much better options in nearby towns like Sayulita. The 160peso taxi ride to leave the property is very annoying as other reviews mention. This is a gem of a property that has a few rough spots that if improved could make it truly world class. We would return for sure.

Our stay at W Punta de Mita was beyond exceptional, and much of the credit goes to the incredible team who made our trip unforgettable. At the very top of this list is Gustavo, the concierge, whose dedication, expertise, and genuine warmth truly elevated our experience. From the moment we arrived, Gustavo was a step ahead, orchestrating flawless plans, recommending hidden gems, and ensuring that every detail of our stay was seamless. His passion for creating unforgettable moments was unmatched, and he is a true asset to the W team.||||Another standout of our trip was dining at the iconic Mesa1, where Raul provided an extraordinary experience. The intimate setting is magical on its own, but Raul’s impeccable service, thoughtful attention to detail, and genuine care turned an already special evening into a cherished memory. He made us feel like the most important guests in the world.||||At the welcome desk, Fernanda and Josue were the epitome of hospitality. Their warm smiles, infectious energy, and ability to anticipate every need made us feel instantly at home. Whether it was assisting with check-in or sharing personalized tips, they went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional.||||A huge thank-you as well to Paola at Whatever/Whenever, whose professionalism and efficiency shone through in every interaction. Whether it was coordinating pre-arrival details or handling last-minute requests, Paola’s ability to make everything happen seamlessly (and with a smile) was a true highlight of our experience.||||Of course, the W Punta de Mita itself is a stunning escape—vibrant design, lush landscapes, and a beachfront that feels like paradise. But it’s the team who make this place truly special. Every single person we encountered radiated genuine warmth, passion, and commitment to creating magical moments.||||If you’re considering a stay at W Punta de Mita, don’t hesitate. This isn’t just a resort—it’s a destination where you’ll be treated like family, pampered like royalty, and leave with memories to last a lifetime. We can’t wait to return!

I've just had my fifth visit to this W property and had another great stay. The new restaurant on the property, Rubra, just recently opened and my friends and I had a great meal this past Friday. Among the highlights were the Kampachi, Abalone, and Sole. And their wine selection is amazing. I also ate again at the Spice Market and, as always, they did not disappoint. We had the Korean fried chicken, shrimp dumplings and Sea Bass over noodles.||The W's fantastic staff were attentive, as always. Regina made sure that everything was operating as it should and ensured that all guest wants/needs were taken care of, Marco the Bartender was a delight to spend time with at the Living Room bar and Sabi provided me with a fantastic Hikuri Journey spa treatment (highly recommended). There are many properties with a good beach or good food, but the ability of the W to combine great pools, a fantastic beach, Wellness facilities, great food and, most importantly, great staff, make the W Punta de Mita my favorite holiday destination. I'll be back again in March and then again in December. As you can tell, I'm very happy with the W experience in Punta de Mita! Todos los dias en Punta de Mita son buenos!!

We loved the whole experience. Everyone who works at the hotel is so personable. We started off with a welcome drink, some awesome service from leidi who was so welcoming, professional and kind. We got a room upgrade, amazing breakfasts and the best food and service we have ever received. Definitely a wow experience. Make sure u try the spice garden-amazing!

The W Hotel Punta De Mita is a stunning destination that perfectly marries luxury with the natural beauty of its surroundings. Guests are greeted by breathtaking views that truly captivate the senses. The pools are a highlight, offering relaxation with a touch of opulence, while the beaches are nothing short of spectacular, providing a slice of paradise on earth. The staff embodies excellence and attentiveness, ensuring that every guest feels pampered and cared for. Whether you're lounging by the pool or strolling along the beach, the experience at W Hotel Punta De Mita is unforgettable and highly recommended for those seeking a luxurious escape.

Google
We had a great experience. Room was spacious, really close to the beach and ours had a small deck facing a giant tree and local Flora. Prices for food are in the premium side and while the food wasn't on par the staff was great. 4/5 starts because I'd appreciate this being more kid friendly so a kids club or even a playground in the sand next to the pool would make this 5/5.

Yelp
Terrible food. Inexcusable! I don't think they had an active kitchen, just a wait staff that turned on the hot plate!

Yelp
My fiancé brought us here for a little gateway before our wedding and hands down the best staff and hospitality I have ever experienced thanks to the hospitality team and management they made our stay feel as if we were home, Hector, Jorge, Diamante, and spa staff were all so accommodating we hope to see everyone again soon! I highly suggest this place the only thing I negative I can say is the rooms are cute and it felt like glamorous glamping trip in the middle of the jungle the rooms can use an upgrade but aside from that I'll come back.

Yelp
Five-star hotel at a five-star price First let's hit the high point... the customer service is EXCELLENT. Everyone, and I mean everyone, on property go out of their way to ensure the guests are taken care of. Super friendly, helpful and fun. This beautiful hotel is nestled into a beautiful lush jungle and beach area, spanning 4 restaurants, 2 pools, tons of beach access, and a lovely outdoor seating area. When guests arrive, they are greeted with a delicious libation, then sent off to the room where your bags will be delivered to you. You can walk the property or be driven around by golf cart, should you choose that option. This property offers a variety of food choices, surf board rentals, pools, sand volleyball, live music, entertainment, and more. This place also caters to company retreats, weddings, honeymoons etc.... Just minutes from the local town, which also has a variety of shops, bars, hotels, and restaurants, the W offers a lovely retreat and easy access to the west coast of PV. The W offers different room types and each one is amazing. From rooms with beach/pool views, to room with your own pool access, to lush jungle abodes. I'm so glad my husband and I chose this fun and beautiful resort.

Yelp
everything at this hotel needs jesus and to change immensely. Full cash grab in every situation and not worth what we paid at all. i will never be coming back hereafter

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the W Punta de Mita for a friend's wedding. We were in one of their "jungle"rooms, located on the bottom floor. The room was clean and spacious with fun local art and bright pops of color. The bed was comfortable and the staff made sure that we had everything we wanted and needed. They kept the room stocked with plenty of bottled water and fresh towels. From start to finish our entire trip was tremendous. This was my first trip to Mexico and my first time staying at a resort like this. The staff were extremely engaging and friendly, and made everything super easy. The food at the various eateries was absolutely delicious and the drinks at the pool were strong. The bride and groom had arranged for yoga and a couple meals while we were staying there. Morning yoga overlooking the ocean was absolutely breathtaking. The pools were refreshing and helped with the humidity. All in all, with no other real point of comparison since this was my first resort experience and trip to Mexico, I absolutely loved it.

Yelp
Amazing hotel for a rest and relaxation trip. Super chill and amazing staff. Highly recommend. Got upgraded to their Marvelous Suites. Amazing ocean views. Staff was super attentive. Highly recommend for a nice, chill, R&R vibe.

Yelp
terrible slow service, no one here cares about you, rude staff at the reception, a lot of ants and other insects probably they don't treat the area from them, very expensive, unreasonably expensive. and I definitely wouldn't come here with children this is more of a hotel for adults. Dirty rooms with insects.

Gary Y.

Yelp
The best thing about W is the casitas instead of a traditional multi-level resort rooms set up. You have your own entrance and back patio (opted for the lake view so it opens up to the water) that are not shared with other guests. The walk from the beach up to the room is very scenic. The rooms are not terribly spacious but due to smart design and layout, they appears to be much bigger. Food is decent but nothing out of the ordinary. Bests are the fresh grills specials outside of their normal dining menu.

Yelp
Stayed here for 2 nights as the start of my 7 days trip in Puerto Vallarta. Upon arrival after traveling flying and 1:30 hour taxi ride I finally arrived and was given a Room with pretty much NO AC and it's 100 degrees and humidity as hell in the jungle. Hotel is in the jungle. Long story short instead of being upset I just took it for the night and switch rooms next day. Was suppose to have my points for night crediting back to me but never did. Matter fact gave me the run around and as a gold Marriott member that kind of sucks. My own rewards card wasting my time and money. SAVE YOUR MONEY and don't come to this hotel. It's boring. No Live music matter fact no music anywhere at all 2 restaurants that are basic and the beach is Nice but be prepared for some big waves. Make sure you can swim. Other then that Punta Mita side four season or St Regis is better couldn't be more upset with my stay and how I was treated

Yelp
Such a cool hotel! The best part was the staff! The Alejandros LoL ! Got a day pass for $100 (which is spent on consuming drinks and food). Gets you beachside Access, lounge chairs and the adult pool is like WOW!!!! They had a DJ from 3-9pm. We ordered two types of ceviche (soooooo good!!!) and very fresh! Let me tell you- the day pass is per person but totally worth it! I did not drink or eat more than $100 worth from 1-8pm but I was full and drunk !

Yelp
W-hotel chain--we have a W in Scottsdale, so my opinion might be tainted by that location. Uber- not too many drivers out here. Yikes!! Getting into gate for our Uber driver was PIA every single time it seemed. I think they preferred us to use the hotel car service. $40 -one way-to closest town Punta Mita-20 min away. We would tell the front desk & for some odd reason, our driver names never got to the guard gates so they wouldn't let him in. 2 guard gates. Are they expecting a coup or what? I understand this is Mexico but c'mon? Location-- very isolated & chill place if that's what you want. If you are looking for only R &R. This is your place. Or bring your own group of friends to party. TTD-- If you are looking for stuff to do. You might want to stay in Sayulitas... 40 minutes away- a cute little town with tons of night life. Or head into Punta Mita (20 min), very chill beautiful town with surfing, fishing, etc. but shuts down at night. Hotel--Uber chic & grounds are beautiful. Felt safe walking around the grounds. See pix. Got a room with ocean, but I think it might have been better with the artificial lake view. You pull in & must take a golf cart to the front desk & that's pretty much where you can go to eat, pool, etc. Service-- hit & miss. The champagne (Vueve was $200), Choco covered strawberries & flowers were waiting for for me in the room. But of course, as it would be...needed feminine products, called front desk & they were never delivered to the room. Sent hubby to finally buy them. Ice was delivered every time I asked. Maid service was on point. Rooms were spotless. Nickel & dime-- took my champagne bottle to the pool & was charged a bottle opening fee $50 from champagne that we bought from the hotel? whah? Adult pool-- lap pool, very chill. They are construction/building right behind the adult pool so the construction noise was annoying. I just moved over to main pool by dj which blocked out the noise. Beds-- ahhmazing!! Marriot's beds are the best!! Especially since I do use vacations to catch up on sleep among other things with my hubby. Overall, ok-stay. Good, but not great. But remember, I come from a resort town, so my expectations might be a bit high. For the $$$, Meh-- don't think I'll be back.

Yelp
I love that a lot of people love this place for the decor and unique style.. I would have loved to give a 5 star rating as well but I have plenty disappointments and for the brand W, now Marriott, they could have done so much better for the price and advertisements they have around this property. It is beautiful, absolutely no doubt and really colorful as anything in one of the most colorful cities should be.. but I could have benefited and loved my stay, without repenting on why I chose this place over just a few $100 more at Four Seasons per night! 1) The Staff needs more training on how to deal with customers, different questions, problems, suggestions they could give, etc 2) Each resort we have stayed at including a very remote one in Belize, usually has cash either USD or local currency in case the visitors need some change even for tips etc. That was really weird 3) We checked in and no one mentioned anything like "we have two restaurants at the property and they are located here and here" OR "breakfast is 6-11 am at this restaurant" OR "we have a bar by the beach" OR "lunch and dinner starts at this time" 4) They checked us in to 3004 and there were mosquitoes, one that we smashed on the wall, others that even their staff saw and gave us a spray. With that inconvenience next morning I called them and said I want to change my room and see if there is an upgrade.. I Paid $140 per night for that upgrade to help myself get away from what was their property issue. We moved to room 3104 and there were no mosquitoes in that room! So we saved ourselves from getting tortured for the next two nights 5) The food, btw, isn't that great! Also the buffet is expensive for what they have to offer.. 6) The rooms have a safety observation.. in room 3004 there was a step that is same color as the floor and you have to take it to use the bathroom even at night.. that was really odd 7) one night they provided turn down service and the other night they did not. During turn down service most resorts would either leave a small note, or turn down curtains, change towels if needed and make the room ready.. here it was just the bed! 8) They could small fans or table fans like other places around their main area on the property for people at the bar or while checking in or using their fancy couches... A lot of people told us while we were at Sayulita that you should have stayed at Four Seasons or St Regis since those are much dryer and at the beach so the mosquitoes are rare/relatively less compared to the W.. I wish I would have researched more. I did not enjoy the stay and I wasted my money which is worse. I stayed at Hacienda San Angel for the first half of my trip and I had no such issues, in fact it was amazing and great hospitality with smiling faces and awesome cultural touch.

Yelp
Fun and very secluded resort. The people are super helpful, polite and provide wonderful service. This place is a must especially if you want privacy and a whole ton of amenities. You won't regret the trip to this location. Rooms are great. Food is fantastic. Pools are warm and the ocean is peaceful.

Giovanny E.

Yelp
Beautiful and quiet beach. The resort is clean and organized. I love the exterior and interior. We love their food especially the fresh pressed juices. We found so many baby crabs on the beach. Our villa has this cool infinity pool with ocean front view.

Yelp
We had a truly magically stay. The vibe is perfect for a relaxing upbeat trip - our space was generous & the food options plentiful. I'd expect to stay once you arrive as the main attraction is the hotel & the beach. The staff were amazing & took tremendous care of us, highly recommended

Yelp
Stunning grounds and all around gorgeous hotel. A group of us visited for a night to attend a swimwear fashion show. We had 3 rooms which were all decorated in the same very modern fashion - large super comfortable beds, a small fridge with ice bucket and bar accoutrements, a very high priced mini bar, gorgeous bathtub with shower, patio, and absolutely NO privacy within the room. We were able to be on the patios and have privacy as well as our entry way courtyards donned with a swinging hammock chair and a bistro set. However, since we shared our room with another couple, we had to be strategic about showering and dressing as the bathroom was all glass. It was super cute and very cozy. The TV was way too big for the small space, though. The grounds are sprawling with lush grassy areas, plenty of palm trees and local foliage, and pieces of art. There are golf cart drivers who will take you to and from your room for no charge. The lobby is stunning - art work, large comfortable sofas, and the most beautiful tile runway I've seen leading out to a catwalk above the pool. The pool was loooooooong, but only about 4' deep, and warmer than a bath. We didn't find it refreshing as it was a bajillion degrees outside with oppressive humidity, but it was lovely nonetheless. Of course the sand in Nayarit is white and soft with gentle waves that break back instead of directly on the beach as in Vallarta. There is a super cute old truck converted into a bar on the beach, plenty of tables and chairs around the grounds, water sports rentals, and a couple of restaurants. It's not all-inclusive which I find bizarre for this area as there is literally nowhere to go, but I guess that's how they get you. $400/night (we had a travel agent discount, thankfully) plus the insanely high food and beverage prices make this a very expensive vacation if staying for a week or more. I found it perfect for just one night, though. The show was fantastic and I would love to be able to stay here again!

Yelp
WOW! Wow wow wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. That's it. Review finished. Let's start at the beginning. I didn't take the car service/shuttle from PVR because I decided to rent a car. We planned a day trip to Sayulita and I rented the car for $50US for 3 days. The shuttle is $100 each way. Do the math. However, I can see how if you're spending $400+ on a room, $200 car ride might not mean much to you. The valet is great. Super efficient and friendly service. You can call from your room with the number and they will have the car ready when you get there or you can wait less than 3 min to have them fetch the car. The grounds are incredibly beautiful. Perfectly manicured and great landscaping. The view of the ocean and sunset is magnificent. Check-in was easy. We had to change the room so there was a 30 min delay and instead of making us wait, our clerk found us by the pool to give us our keys. Now that's service. The pools are both fun and beautiful. They are open 24 hours, which I looooved. The beach is gorgeous and clean. The water is nice too with not many rocks and waves that break about 25m off shore. The rooms are well appointed. At first I thought I was going to hate the 2 sliding door thing but once you open them both and the ocean breeze flows in, you'll understand that design choice. We ate at every restaurant except Spice Market (I've been to the one in NYC and I didn't come to Mexico for Thai food) and I don't think one of them was bad. The lobby bar has the best drinks! Every employee here was friendly and accommodating. I truly felt taken care of. Outstanding!

Yelp
Our family stayed this week. The property is amazing, the staff make you feel like family. Great surf spot out front, amazing pool. Cant wait to come back! Top notch service by everyone, we're going to miss all our new friends.

Yelp
The moment I arrived to this place I was greeted with a very friendly staff. Ricardo the hotel manager was waiting for us upon our arrival. We had dinner at Mesa 1 and the food was out of this world. My favorite dish was the lamb and pistachio mole. The flavors were just on point. Diego made the night run smoothly. On the wet bar area Rafael is the men. He took care of us everyday setting our bed by 8 am so we could tan nicely. Please visit this place believe me you will not regret it. Shot out to Rafael and Claudia from wet bar Diego from mess

Yelp
Well gracias a diosito that I stayed at the W Punta De Mita back when they first opened in summer of 2016, because word is officially out. This is the largest and most unique and beautifully designed resort-style W Hotel that I ever stayed at, with prices ranging from $500-1K+ US dollars a night. Yeesh. But what you get for that price point: a massive hotel with multiple restaurants, a breathtaking spa, villas, a gorgeous beach, bicycles throughout the property and an A-list staff. During our stay, there were only a handful of guests, so we were able to practically take over the property and all of its amenities. Now? Not sure how busy it gets - especially the pool which hosts the occasional daytime fiesta with a DJ. If you get a chance to stay at W, do it. Honestly, the neighboring Saint Regis is lovely - but for a posh, young, fun and boutiquey experience, go W.

Heather J.

Yelp
The W at Punta de Mita was so fabulous! I stayed here for a week with my mother and we were in absolute paradise the entire time. The breakfast in the morning was one of my favorite memories. Staff is so friendly and welcoming. I hope to return some day!!

Yelp
Young kids, young wine and young hotels all have something in common. They all age and mature. This hotel is a youngster at only a few months, but has all the potential to be a full fledged super star. Sure, just like kids there is stuff you go "really?", but it's small stuff stuff that will go away with time and great W management that is in place here. The rooms are some of the most fun I've ever stayed at. The art and detail is fantastic! The layout of the hotel feels perfect with every room has a distinct personality. The pool area is so quintessential W. Fun and playful. Is the music a tad too loud? Maybe, but ask and it will be fixed. You're at a W btw! The ceviche bus is so fresh and fun, the staff is the same. The Wet Bar is delicious and the staff will mature and grow with time. The other signature restaurants are on the list to try. The beach is one of the best around and the water is warm! But, I'll tell you right now,...this is a great resort that will become a rare wine with age. Or that kid you always knew would make it. You heard it here!!

Yelp
Rent a car rent a rent a car rent a car, if you aren't afraid of driving yourself then I implore you to rent a car, W Punta de mita is about 18 miles away from puerto Vallarta which will cost you about 1500 pesos two ways which comes out to $75 and if you add that up for 4-7 days or however long you stay it adds up and if you decide to rent a car it might cost you anywhere from $200-$300 for 7 days which is a lot cheaper, and plus that means you can go and come as you wish. The W is a wonderful place and for the price it doesn't disappoint because it's high end with quality and class with a flavor Of the Mexican Vibe you wish to get. The service is amazing everyone who is employed here is on call 24 providing the best service. The W is right on the beach which makes it for a lot of fun in the sun, the W always has some type of events going on for the guest so entertainment is always on point. The prices for food and drinks are expensive if you don't mind then go right ahead but if you want to save some money then go to the local store and buy food and snacks or if you do rent a car then there is plenty of food close by that is 100% cheaper and just as good if not better. I would love to come back one day.

Yelp
Our stay in this hotel has ruined all my future stays anywhere else because it was so incredible!! The property itself is absolutely stunning and exclusive but what really made our stay impeccable was the SERVICE from the super awesome staff! From the moment we walked in Yolani welcomed us as ambassadors and made us feel like she was 100% there for us to make our stay memorable (which she did!). Diana welcomed us daily by the pool and took care of us in our cabanas. We called her the "bee" because she literally zooms around everywhere so quickly to make sure everyone is taken care of. Paul in the main restaurant was the same! Literally running all day and night while doing it with a smile! He made sure we had everything we needed and more. Finally, Jesus who is a waiter in the seafood restaurant by the water was our favorite. He took the time to make us feel so special and welcome and went above and beyond to make our vacation the best. Absolutely impeccable service here that we always compare everything else to now-and honestly everyone else seems to fall short. We stated here almost a year ago (sorry it took me so long to leave this review) but as you can see these people all made such an impression because all this time later I still remember their names-- and I am NOT good with names lol.

Tim N.

Yelp
Good pool service and the resort workers are generally very efficient and nice. Great aesthetics and design of the property, it's well designed. That's about it. Where to begin? I thought Mr. David Gauna, the new General Manager was brought in to make the W Punta De Mita better and not worse? Recall that several years back, this hotel did not even try to honor Elite benefits and/or upgrades. We all have our reasons for wanting to stay at a W hotels. Many of us are raving fans of this hotel brand as well as our loyalty to Marriott. Myself personally, I have stayed at 6 other W hotels worldwide including the W Bali. The fact that I purchase bath and bedding products at the W Hotels The Store website for my home, that alone should tell you something about my loyalty and love for the W Hotels brand. And I also have the W Maldives booked for January of 2023. Apparently now I need to rethink my relationship with this hotel brand simply because hotel management at W Punta De Mita hotel does not seem to care if you are happy or not as a customer. It seems at this location, all they care about is their profit and their money. And they simply disappeared when I wanted them to look into assisting me. Listen, if you are you going to spend well over $1,200/night USD (for a basic room, including some meals, drinks and extra cash tips to the waiters and resort workers), it better be worth it. And in my opinion, the W Punta De Mita was not worth it at all. At least at the Grand Velas, you pay over $1,000 USD/night but you get very quality all-inclusive F/B, and I liked that there's no pretentiousness at Velas Resorts. Bottom line is the hotel ruined what was supposed to be a beautiful elaborate surprise birthday balloon arrangement for my wife. Several days before the checkin the hotel informed me that balloon arrangements wouldn't fit into the regular ocean view room they upgraded me to (I am Bonvoy Elite and had booked the jungle view originally). So we scrambled for alternative options. They suggested upgrading me to an Oasis suite and gave me a very good price for the upgrade, or so I thought. Well it turned out they weren't very clear and what they were quoting me was the upgrade per NIGHT in addition to what I was already going to pay for the basic room. So the upgrade charge was going to cost more than my entire 2 night stay combined. Unbelievable. And they had the audacity to quote me such an outrageous number. I reached out to management in an attempt to get some assistance and they were all hush hush and nowhere to be found. Not one employee offered any assistance. At any other reasonable hotel or resort, I would think they would not hesitate to upgrade me to a suite to accommodate the birthday balloon arrangements, or hey here's an idea, how about honoring the original upgrade price that you give to your guests in the first place?! So then I had no choice but to cancel the balloon arrangements, and the local vendor lost out on almost $500 USD worth of work for the arrangement. I guess the W also does not like supporting their local entrepreneurs. The entire experience left me somewhat dumbfounded. To be honest, prior to my arrival, I was also debating to cancel my entire stay @ the W Punta De Mita because of the petty back and forth I had with their Front Desk Staff - Okay yeah we'll give you the suite for this xx price, followed by oh sorry we quoted the wrong price, to we'll give you the suite for 5% off, followed by 10% off after I pushed for more discounts. This was highly unprofessional and left a bitter taste in my mouth. In the end I still came here with my wife and we spent over $2400 USD for a 2 night stay. But we will not be back and I think the W Hotels brand just lost a client for life. There are other brands such as Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Conrad that seem to treat their clients much better. I would know as I last stayed at a Waldorf Astoria resort back in June 2022. So much for the Whatever/Whenever mantra! What added insult to injury--I'm actually a local resident of Puerto Vallarta but they dont seem to give a hoot that I'm an expat local "supporting" a their business by selecting their hotel for our special celebration. Also beware and check your bill. The hotel adds an optional room service charge for the maid, which you can supposedly remove during checkout, but in my haste to exit the property, I did not notice the option to remove it, so definitely consider doing that. Hey this place wants to nickel and dime you as a guest, well we too can do the same.

Yelp
This hotel is wonderful. We stayed four nights at the W in Punta de Mita over the 4th of July weekend. We loved everything about the trip, but the things that stood out the most were: --The hotel design and architecture. It incorporates many traditional Mexican themes and elements from the region, including the colorful Huichol walkway that runs from the ocean through the main lobby. --The hotel grounds. This is a vast property but the landscaping is immaculate. The jungle region, were our room was located, is very well-kept and relaxing. It's not far from the beach / pools, but you can ask for a ride in one of the many hotel golf carts if you don't feel like walking. --The food and drinks. We had both breakfast and dinner at Venazu and dinner once at Spice Market. Everything we tried was delicious. The Mexican food at Venazu is very good and Spice Market has some flavorful Asian cuisine as well as creative cocktails. --The service. The staff were fantastic everywhere on the property. Waiters would constantly check on us at both the pools and the restaurants. We never waited long for food or drinks, even though there were a lot of other guests to tend to. Our room was always quickly and fully cleaned during the day and everything replenished. --Cristina, the bartender at the main lobby bar, was particularly wonderful and attentive. She took the time to chat with us and explain the history of the hotel to us and tell stories about some of its design features. Her drinks were excellent as well. --The pools and beach. There are two pools, one for general use and one for adults only. Both are well-staffed and have plenty of space to lay out. The adult pool has a side that is partly clear acrylic paneling, which makes for some great photos. Very cool! The beach is two steps away from the pool and private. You can do a number of water sports if that is your thing. All in all, we had an amazing stay and we'll definitely be back. Thanks W!

Yelp
As Platinum Bonvoy members we were upgraded from the Wonderful Jungle Escape room we booked to a Spectacular Ocean/Lake View room. The room was delightful. There was a private courtyard/patio between the front door and the room itself, with one swing/chair and another chair to enjoy the sun. The room itself was open, bright, and airy-- decorated in bright colors and surfboards, with authentic Mexican touches and modern art featuring Frida Kahlo and Pancho VIlla complimenting what I have come to expect as the latest, more modern W style. The room was divided by a rainbow-colored open shelving unit, separating the bedroom/living area from the dual vanities and shower room, which faced the lake with a rain shower and oversized tub. The room was perfectly laid out for maximum use and enjoyment of the airy space. The back of the room opened onto a very private terrace on the tiered "lake" (think giant, tiered fountain) which had a lounger built for two with a comfy outdoor mattress for relaxing, sun-bathing, or drinking morning coffee/tea, of which we availed ourselves each morning. Our main reason for visiting was R&R, so we made use of the beach and a VIP cabana ("La Rosy" was ours; they are all uniquely named and decorated) at the adults-only pool, which is literally touching the beach and the bay. The very large private beach is a great place to sit on a cabana daybed and watch the surfers. The adults-only pool is a great, secluded place to enjoy the music playing and cool off in the hot sun. I would highly recommend the VIP cabanas-- they are two-story units, each with a large sundeck with four chairs and an umbrella perfect for sunning (or drying off in the shade) and a downstairs with a personal outdoor shower and an interior space that can be made private with curtains, complete with a private bathroom. We spent most of our time on the property in La Rosy and cannot say enough good things about the staff who took care of us. Hector, the F&B manager, personally greeted us and ensured we were set up in our cabana each day and immediately tended to. The guys at the pool-- Daniel, Sergio, and Ever, took excellent care of us all day, seamlessly transitioning between between each other ensuring we were constantly attended too; no matter who checked in on us, took or delivered our orders-- everything was perfect, punctual, pleasant, and unobtrusive. I highly recommend the Merequetengue for something slightly sweet but also spicy to start...and the Piwiwi for a more refreshing/less sweet afternoon cocktail pool or beach-side. The food at "Wet"--as W's pools are named, is also great. If you are celebrating a special occasion, you must dine at Mesa1, the single-table private dining ..experience (restaurant would be under-selling it) in the middle of the lake at the center of the property. The table is covered with silver and pink orbs under glass hurricanes, lanterns, and candles. A tree trunk emerges from the center with a pink and green vine crawling up the bark and then trickling down, giving what I can only describe as the feel of an adult version of an enchanted forest. There are 3 menus-- Agua, Aire, Tierra to choose from, each one to satisfy a different palate. The seven course tasting menu (really 12 with the amuse-bouche, sorbet, and multiple desserts, etc.) was absolutely amazing. We were attended to most kindly and attentively (and unobtrusively) by Abraham, who anticipated our every need, never rushed us (or left us to lay in wait for too long), and made us feel welcome and at home, safe, and like no one else in the world existed. My husband had the "water" menu, and myself the "earth"-- both were mouth-watering, beautifully plated, appropriately portioned (who can enjoy seven courses if you're stuffed after three!), with each presented and revealed simultaneously under a silver cloche, so that each course was a little, delightful surprise. Our favorites were the cannelloni filled with lobster & foie gras and the Wagyu rib eye, respectively. All of the service at the resort was completely on-point, emblematic of a culture of service and customer-focus seemingly long forgotten. The general manager David and his assistant Mario personally visited us at the pool and ensured our every need was attended to. To ensure even our departure was as painless as possible (we didn't want to leave), the staff arranged for us a luxury car to the airport, charged to our room, right on time... again completely seamless.

Yelp
We had an amazing overall experience from the moment we got to the property. Punta De Mita is a really small remote area of Nayarit Mexico, and the W is nestled quaintly, on an amazing piece of coast. What we loved was the decor, the greenery, the feeling of seclusion but mostly the employees and the FOOD! As pretty as this place is, it is nothing without the hospitality of the amazingly well mannered and friendly staff. They truly made a memorable experience. After a few days you begin to feel as if you've been visiting for weeks and everyone knows who you are. And the food? OMG, the food is absolutely impeccable. Without exaggeration, some of the best seafood I have ever had and definitely the best Shrimp I ever had hands down. Collectively, they have 4 eateries on location with a special, different "pop-up" grill each night. Those pop-up grills is where we had a seafood medley that changed our lives. They have a Ceviche bar! Best Ceviche of our lives too! This Resort is a VIBE! I undoubtedly would go again and hope to soon! A very special thank you to Sebastian, Peycha, Six, Karla, Abraham, David, & Jasiel! You guys rock and without you lot, our experience would have been simply mediocre. It was because of you all, our trip was so special.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the W for about a week in July with our small dog. The hotel is stunning! Super modern and hip and they took every safety precaution possible to make all the guest feel comfortable and safe. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. It is also extremely dog friendly, they even have a dog menu!! We were also to reserve the gym for an hour every day to ourselves. It was very clean and the equipment was fantastic. After a week, we went to the St. Regis which is closer to the actual town, but after a few days we came rushing back again to the W. There's no comparison! We stayed there for another 3 nights. The beach is so beautiful and the pool is lovely. They even had a DJ on Friday night in the lobby and on Saturday during the day by the pool. They can arrange cars for you to drive into town if you want to check out some different restaurants but we barely felt the need to leave the premises. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO STAY AT THIS LOVELY HOTEL!!!

Yelp
If I could dream up a hotel with all the details like nespresso maker in the room, house dj pool side, perfect white sand beach; this would be it. For me, it was the perfect hotel in every way.

Yelp
Best hotel . Great staff and property! Meet some wonderful people. The food was amazing! The pool was warm . Always clean. The beach you can see from the pool. The rooms are amazing . I took a bath every night . Swam in the pool at nite since it's 24hr pool. I highly recommend the W Punta De Mita resort. Your missing out

Yelp
For a 5 star resort, this property fell short of all our expectations. Rooms were small, we had maintenance issues which took three days to resolve. After 6, felt like a morgue. Outside lighting was not turned on, inside the hotel there was only music on Saturday night. Workers were pleasant and accommodating. Had to go out every night to other resorts to get the best of Mexico. Marriot Bonvoi reservation was a rip off. The price quoted was non refundable, other members of our group benefited by reserving through Expedia and enjoying rates 30% cheaper than what I got. One main pool on the premise, aside from a narrow "lap adult pool". Music started at 12:00 every day. No activities, basically a bore of a resort. Have been to many properties. This one by far is over rated.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing resort. Went for a friends wedding and it was the best time. Beautiful resort, beautiful weather, and amazing service. Shout out to Angel one of the pool servers. Took amazing care of us the whole time we were there.

Yelp
I would not recommend this hotel if you are taking a vacation. Overall, some good compensate for the bad. The food is really good and the service at the pool/beach is very good. The fish and the seafood are spectacular. However, the checkin experience and the rooms are bad. We make a lot of trips and vacations, so our expectations are high. When we book a certain bed (king) we are a couple, so we always expect a king bed. They didn't give us a king bed, they gave us two double (twin) beds instead. For a couple on a romantic vacation, not a good option... they lied to us and said they had 2 queen size beds which we agreed to and were expecting queen, but in reality they are 2 twin beds. Usually when a hotel makes a mistake, they make up for it by offering a complimentary dinner/breakfast/massage, whatever, but we didn't even get an apology. Now we put 2 beds together and trying to sleep. Moreover, the nespresso didn't work. We got the ocean view, we can't enjoy it because the people next to us are smokers, so we don't open the door because the smoke gets inside the room. Honestly, I recommend going elsewhere. If you can, choose another place. If you are planning to spend most of your time outside of the room (pool/beach), then the W can be a good choice. Just be prepared to be doing the checkin for literally 3 hours. We arrived at 5pm, which is past checkin time and we got the room at 8pm. We come to Mexico every month and a lot of times we take a beach vacation. We will not be returning to this hotel.

Yelp
We can't wait to stay again! The hotel is beautiful, the staff are all friendly, and the service is impeccable. We arrived Friday afternoon for the long weekend and we were met by our driver near the taxi line at PVR (book the shuttle with the hotel- it's so worth it). We were offered water and beer for the trip to the hotel which is about 45 minutes, and that immediately set the mood for the trip. We asked to stop at the local la Comer to get snacks for the room (the stop was included in the price of the shuttle if it doesn't exceed 20 minutes) and that was easily accommodated. Upon arrival you are instantly blown away by how beautiful and modern the hotel grounds are; I felt like I was in a fancy movie. Golf carts take you to your room- we had a jungle view which feels miles away from everything (in a good way!). It was quiet, lush and private. I would book a room on a higher floor though as we had ground level. The rooms are decorated tastefully with bright tropical colors, and all the amenities are there. The beach area is well maintained and clean, and the pool area feels like a club in itself. The restaurants are very good, offering fresh seafood, land options, and are all fairly priced. The spa services are a must, and the gym is well equipped. We saw maybe three children the entire time we were away so it felt like an adults only resort which was a huge plus for a young couple like us. You cannot go wrong here. Already counting the days until we can get back for more tans, margaritas, and beach days.

Yelp
This hotel is hip. We came here for some drinks and to see the grounds. What I liked about this hotel was that the beach has no rocks. You can actually enjoy the beach unlike other locations in Punta Mita where the beach is full of rocks. The drinks are good here. The pool area is fun. They have nice lounge chairs and swing chairs to enjoy.

Yelp
Extremely clean Lobby and pool area. Lots of staff around. Friendly. Interesting, modern decor with a "beachy" decorative twist. They have a super cool customized golf cart to transport guests around the property. The dead fish and ocean trash was gross. For example, the smell of the stream flowing into the ocean and the syringe on the beach. It opened less than two weeks ago. I hope they get the nature aspect cleaned up quickly. It was distinctly undesirable and not at all like the other W properties I've visited. Okay.....a year later I went back to the W and they've worked out the problems they had last year. The staff is gracious and helpful as well as fun. Everything about the facility and service was excellent during my stay.

Yelp
We have been to Puerto Vallarta many times. This was our first trip out to the neighboring areas. The hotel itself I have to say is pretty sweet. The pool area and beach setup is quaint and the restaurants have top notch food. We found the service to be pretty good (if not consistent). In some cases, people like Eduardo by the beach made it a point to remember me and things going on with us and asked about us. Same with Doriance at the front desk. In other cases, I'd ask for things and they'd be forgotten about by others. So again, just hot and cold. The rooms are really quirky with indoor/outdoor living space (which is really nice) and a beautiful big shower and tub. The bed is big and comfortable and the windows give you great views of the bay. The fridge is well stocked. The downsides of the room though are many. First, they really need a closet or armor of some kind. There is plenty of space to build it above the place where you sit your bags. I don't want to have an open air closet. It just makes the room more messy/odd. Second, the tub situation. The soap they give you isnt close to sufficient to create a bubble bath. They really need to change that. Also the tub fills sooo slowly. It takes about an hour to fill it. By then, the mood has passed. Lastly, I really don't get the point of having two out door spaces (front and back, which is amazing to be sure) but neither is covered? This region gets a lot of rain. It makes rainy days not something you can sit outside and enjoy. Why not build a cover? Also the backyard bed is a great amenity except for the reams of ants crawling out there. I'd love to see them change the stained sheets on that outdoor bed so it's not all stained. Their response was to "put towels on". Well that would require a lot of towels. I don't see how hard it would be to just put fresh sheets on it before every guest that are not stained and to do something about all the ants crawling all over the place. That part really disappointed me. On the beach, similar issues there. I loved just laying by the beach and drinking and reading and watching the waves. When Eduardo was there, he'd offer me a cabana and was very helpful. Sometimes I'd get amazing maracuya margaritas and other times it would be far from great. It just seemed to depend on who was making them. Again, lack of consistency. Finally, my other criticisms are with the location. It's so very secluded that really if you want to leave the hotel and go almost anywhere you will need to spend a LOT. If you are single or a young couple, I just don't think the hotel makes a lot of sense. It's 25 minutes away from anything and 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta. Also there are a lot of kids and families at the resort. Which for young couple like us without kids, was annoying to say the least. We usually stay adult only and now I remember why. On the upside, the Mexican restaurant was great. We always had great service and excellent food. You really couldn't go wrong there. I also think the Spa is the most consistent place on the property. High level of service there and quality. I can't say a negative word about the spa. It was worth every penny. Keep in mind we had to pay about $800/night because we went over President's day weekend so that probably colors my expectations a bit!

Yelp
Please visit the W Hotel, staff Julio Nacho Abraham & everyone at the restaurants are fantastic. (Should have included a few more names) Do yourself a favor and take the ceviche class. Also room delivery is very fast. The Beach is the best in the area. I love this place & will be back!!!

Yelp
The hotel and staff were all incredible. This is such a beautiful hotel. The rooms and grounds were extremely clean. The food was amazing. The staff were super friendly and greeted me by name every day. Everyone was extremely personable and ready to help. If you're looking for something off the beaten path but still hip and trendy then this is definitely the place.

Yelp
The hotel grounds are very clean including the rooms, the staff except for upper management are great and helpful. The hotel manager no. I stayed here and had to change rooms because an animal came in my room. When I got to the second room the ac didn't work good. They tried to fix 3 times but what the unit needed wasn't within the ac handler but the compressor itself must of had a Freon leak or it was low. Not good when it 90 degrees and feels like 100 because of the humidity during August. The only thing the hotel manager could offer was a discount at one of their high priced restaurants. Also the cocktails suck. If you're gonna sell drinks why not hire a craft cocktail manager who knows how to make a menu and can teach the staff how to make drinks especially if your drinks are twice the price of other local places. Also watch out as once you check in they approve your card for a huge amount to cover their high prices during your stay. Also they throw in extra service charges and mandatory tips on anything you buy there.

David I.

Yelp
Unbelievable! This place was unlike any other. Great beach good waves and excellent food and drinks. Younger crowd. Expect to pay american prices, no mexico discount here but well worth it. Low key prof staff. Rooms are so private that we were unaware of any other guests. Well done architecture. Spice market gave us a stunning variety and great blend of tastes like we have not tasted in years.

Jeffery L.

Yelp
Great stay at the W. Beautiful beach, great dinner at Spice Market. Ginger Margarita best ever according to my wife. Nice brunch. Staff are all very helpful.

Yelp
One of the most BEAUTIFUL hotel resorts we have ever stayed at! My family just came back from Punta Mita/Puerto Vallarta and absolutely miss it already. Our first two nights, we stayed at the "W" and was immediately impressed of how beautiful the resort is. They have everything that you need and accommodate to all of your request. They absolutely made our stay very welcoming and relaxing. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. One thing we really enjoyed is how they welcome you with a refreshing beverage and cold towels to cool you down, then they take all of your bags and drive you in their electric golf style carts. Next time we come to Puerto Vallarta, we will definitely consider staying at the "W" again... hopefully SOONER than later. Hotel Management - "Gracias por hacer maravillosos recuerdos para mi familia y yo."

Ashley K.

Yelp
I stayed 5 nights. The hotel is nice, with the usual W amenities and prices to go along with them. The view is great, beach is wide with soft sand and warm water and is safe to swim. The property is very spread out, so it does not feel crowded. You can end up with a room that is far away from the pool, restaurants, etc. It is also remote, and getting off the property is expensive and inconvenient. The hotel has an exclusive arrangement with a transport company that charges highway robbery prices (4x a taxi, at least). Getting to town to eat at a restaurant not at the hotel was $30 each way, even though it was only 7 miles. So prepare to eat a lot of ceviche or Spice Market, or rent a car. Also beware, there is no coffee shop on property.

Quinn G.

Yelp
What a beautiful resort. The staff was amazing all the way around. Beach in this part of Punta De Mita is spectacular.

T R.

Yelp
Angel was the nicest and most helpful guy at the W. He was friendly and always there when we needed assistance! Hector the bartender as well as Hector the server were amazing! Jesus was new and he made us feel right at home he was friendly and answered all of our questions with a smile! The hotel was absolutely beautiful but the food selection truthfully lacked! The menu for room service was bigger than both restaurants menus combined. Other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel and when you first arrive at valet ask for ANGEL! He was truthfully the BEST employee at The W, he made it very memorable!!

Brooke K.

Yelp
Rooms are too hot! I've been to the front desk 4 times, spent 24 hours dealing with this. Finally they got our room to 77 degrees and I was told all the rooms are this temperature and no one else is complaining. Really?? We are paying $750 per night... way too much to wake up sweating. They told us they were full and could not switch rooms so we still have 2 more nights in this hot room. Don't come to this hotel if you like to cool down after a day at the beach or pool. We go to Mexico a lot and this has never been an issue anywhere else. We are in an ocean front villa with plunge pool and chose this room to entertain. It is NOT a good entertaining room as there is no closet, your clothes are hanging in plain sight, your bags and shoes have nowhere to go. It looks messy. There is no privacy within the room either. The food at the pool was good and the service was great.

Yelp
We spent our 8 day honeymoon at the W (end of Sept/early Oct) and had to provide feedback on our amazing stay. First off, it was low-season while we were there so when we arrived on Monday (9/24) it felt like there were maybe 30 other guests in the entire resort. We checked in, gawked at our amazing room (1115, on the lake with a perfect central view of the ocean in the distance.) Then we went to dinner at Venazu where I had the best chile relleno of my life (it's stuffed with shrimp and not breaded/fried but baked inside the fresh pepper - AMAZING. Hubby had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly to temp.) Then we walked down to the beach (where we were two of maybe a total of 6 or 7 other people) and watched a spectacular sunset. We then returned to our room and got settled in and went to bed fairly early as we'd had a late night before flying out. Next morning we awoke to the same amazing views and hightailed it down to the Chevy Cheria for the best ceviche of our lives. I had the tuna one and the hubs had the aguachile. Both were incredible. Super fresh and great flavors. If you're a chili-head, ask them for the super hot (roasted habanero) salsa. It is EXTREMELY hot, but delicious when used sparingly. We spent the rest of our day at the pool and enjoyed great service there. Our drinks were never empty before a server would pop up and ask how we were doing. We were also offered (and often accepted) complimentary bottled waters. I think we ate dinner at Venazu again that night. Anyway, I won't give you the day-by-day rundown, I'll summarize the rest: We had dinner at Spice Market one night (an incredible storm came in and we were seated right next to the big sliding doors so it was beautiful.) The food was fantastic but this is definitely their more "up-market" restaurant so it was significantly pricier than their other offerings. Also had dinner at Living Room one night; we just split a bunch of apps and had some amazing cocktails made by the wonderful Biridiana. She also does the tequila tastings and gives you amazing background, from historical to ecological, on the creation and current process for making tequilas and mezcal. We had a great time chatting with her, learned a lot and best of all - it was free! You MUST do this when at the hotel. We also went to Away Spa for a couples massage. The spa itself is beautiful, set back in the jungle area of the property. They had a regular pool (with a series of high powered body-jets), a hot tub and a cold plunge pool. The massage was wonderful and the products they use smellled wonderful. The property itself is amazing. It feels like they simply carved this hotel out of the beachside jungle here. There were staff watering, bug spraying, pruning plants and cleaning for the man-made lake daily. They take a great deal of pride in maintaining this property and it shows. We also rented a car for a day to go to Sayulita. They literally brought the car out to the resort and picked it up the next day. Sayulita was a fun outing but we were so glad to return to the peace of our secluded jungle resort. The next morning, before they picked up the car, we went to the St. Regis for breakfast. We'd considered staying at the St. Regis for our honeymoon, but decided on the W because of the more fun (and funky) decor elements. Brunch at the St. Regis was soooo good. They have a very wide-ranging buffet. The views from the pool are gorgeous and the staff was nice as wel, but driving through the gated community/golf course that the St. Regis is located in convinced me we'd made the right choice of where to stay. Everything was very clean and suburban looking, but a bit uninspired. Definitely the place to stay if you're closer to middle aged and/or traveling with children. We do have one criticism of the W, though. I get that it's very hot (especially at the time of year we were visiting), but why no hot tubs at the main pool? The main pool has two whirlpool tubs, but neither of them are warm. They're both just the temperature of the pool. It would have been nice to go down and sit in a hot tub at night while listening to the waves crash. Anyway, overall we loved the W and were already planning our anniversary trip before we left. The staff were wonderful at every turn (5* for all.) Pool and restaurant staff were amazing. Gorgeous property that made me not want to leave to go on outings.
