"Sky Zheng, the former head chef at New York City’s one-Michelin-starred Sushi Nakazawa, opened Wa Shin in Bay Village in mid-2024. For diners at the hinoki counter, the welcoming chef puts on an unforgettable 18-course show that follows the seasons and sources top-quality seafood from both Boston and Japan. The omakase is $185 per person." - Erika Adams, Valerie Li Stack, Eater Staff

"Take a seat at the smooth hinoki counter and buckle in for the ride at Wa Shin, an impressive new edomae-style omakase experience in Bay Village. Chef Sky Zheng, the former head chef of Michelin-starred Sushi Nakazawa in Manhattan, conducts the show with artful restraint, favoring simple, meticulously sourced courses of nigiri that have included live scallop and ushi ebi made with tiger prawns shelled just before the sushi is served." - Erika Adams

All around 5 stars. Good drink menu and the uni is some of the best I’ve ever tasted outside of Asia. As other reviewers have said, very intimate setting. Every fish was very fresh, but the mackerel might have been the star of the show as surprising as it sounds. Completely different texture profile compared to the fatty tunas is the perfect change up to what is already a very excellent dinner. Really good atmosphere, two cuts above your average omakase.

Absolutely amazing experience! Very intimate setting with only 10 people served at the time. Amazing service with an experienced Sake expert serving traditional sake and giving you a full story of where it comes from and the origin story behind it. The chefs make you feel welcomed and are the real deal, serving food that is unique as well as delicious. Plan to spend a minimum of 200/300 + here per person, very worth the price though and a experience that is memorable.

If you are looking for a traditional Japanese Omakase Wa Shin is the place for you. The quality of the fish is excellent and the overall experience and atmosphere is fun and authentic. Having been to Japan several times for extended periods I can say that this restaurant would be on par with the best places in Tokyo, Kyoto, etc. The chef Sky and his team have fun while preparing the food and this translates into the excellence of each dish. Will definitely be back soon and such a great addition to the boston food scene for sushi lovers!!!

The best dinner we’ve ever had. The service was outstanding. Every single dish was clearly crafted with passion. There was no bite we had that was not delectable. Chef Sky took great care of us ensuring we enjoyed every dish and talking with us the whole time. This is an Omakase experience you cannot miss out on!

Absolutely amazing experience. Service was perfect, chef was funny and engaging and very thoughtful about every interaction. The fish was some of the most flavorful sushi I’ve had in the area, with buttery smooth textures and great choices of seasoning. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and it definitely felt like a high-end sushi restaurant in Japan. We’ll definitely be returning for any and every special occasion.

First time going to an omakaze in Boston. Chef Sky is very friendly and warmly welcomes all of the guests to his world of sushi. The place was well decorated. It is located at the heart of Boston, but the room feels like we are put and about in a very peaceful place. All of the dishes were fresh. Most of them look really simple, but hide a lot of different tastes among them. The chef picks a very interesting and playful combination of fish and herbs. Every menu shows details and effort that was put into. The balance between flavorful fish and fresh greens were perfect. The chef was very friendly and full of energy, which would make your night entertaining and flowing in a breeze. The waitresses also did very well on servicing the guests, including informing information and cleaning plates.

Chef Sky is a master of his craft. All of the courses were made with simplicity but it was prepared perfectly. The environment and vibe is not too serious, which many omakase spots are in some areas. The staff was very respectful but did an amazing job taking care of the customers and making them feel like they’re just visiting a good friend’s home. Personally, this is the best omakase spot in Boston. An amazing dining experience and definitely worth the price.

This was our first time in Boston and we wanted to check out the omakase options in the area and Wa Shin did not disappoint! Everything was perfection- food, presentation, service and of course Chef Sky and his staff. He imports fish from Toyosu market so you know it’s fresh and high quality! My favorite would have to be the SUPER PREMIUM Hokkaido uni! So buttery and smooth! I’m not a huge fan of ikura, but I normally don’t tell the staff so that my husband can have mine since he loves it so much. Chef Sky noticed and offered me a different piece, which was not necessary, but he insisted which was very thoughtful and kind of him. My husband said it was the BEST ikura he’s ever had! They marinate it with their special recipe. They also offer other specialty dishes after the 18 course meal, but we were too full to indulge! Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and can’t wait to come back! We highly recommend Wa Shin.. YESS go ahead and RSVP!!!
