Where to Eat in St. Paul’s West Side Neighborhood | Eater Twin Cities

"With socially distanced indoor seating and a heated outdoor section, Wabasha Brewing Company serves up tasty brews and savory bites seven days a week. Parked right outside of the taproom, Wabasha’s mobile kitchen offers an eclectic menu of overstuffed bao buns, customizable mac-and-cheese bowls and asada fries loaded with tender steak, grilled onions and silky cheese sauce. Wash down your meal with a smoky, jalapeno-tinged West Side Popper or something seasonal from the rotating tap. Beyond the mobile kitchen, the brewery regularly brings in guest food trucks. Common collaborators include El Hornito, K-Town and D’s Kitchen."

Vanilla Porter is a top 3, so good! Other beers are unique and tasty as well! Scary wall of devil art?

Mister Jon

Google
Very friendly and helpful bartender. Prices are reasonable. I like the laid back ambiance of this Brewery. They have a parking lot with off street parking. There are a good number of beers to choose from, including a nice variety of beer types. While I feel the beer still has room for improvement (many I felt were average, and there was no clear stand out), we definitely will be back in the future.

Good beer and nice outdoor seating (for a repurposed parking lot). Kid and pet friendly.

Nice selection of craft beer. $5 beers on Mondays.

Love this place. Great beer, great vibes, lots of community events (trivia, meat raffle, book club, etc)

Good beer. Nice shaded out patios. Relaxing atmosphere and service. Food trucks or Taco House down the block.

Tried a couple of good beers from Wabasha at recent Autumn Brew Review so decided to visit the taproom. Waited on quickly but got the feeling we were just a nuisance being there. Asked a couple of questions about two beers with no definitive response - more of a take it or leave it attitude. Beers were good, cozy taproom, but too many other local small breweries who seem more interested in our business and more knowledgeable about their beers. Will give it another try down the road before we completely write this brewery off.

We stumbled upon Wabasha while in the Twin Cities looking at wedding venues and enjoyed our time there so much we ended up renting out the entire place for our rehearsal dinner! The beer is delicious! We had a number of home-brewers and craft beer aficionados in attendance and everyone remarked about the quality of the beer! Jason was responsive and great to work with. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces are warm and welcoming. Overall, nothing but great things to say about the space, the staff, and the beer!

Yelp
Stop #38 in our 2024 Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Brewery Tour! 4.5 rounded up. After spending the afternoon at the Craft Beer Festival, we decided we could ummm, use a drink... Wabasha coming in strong with a patio, beer & service being good enough to order a second round. We ordered as one and done, pay right away - the gent reminded us that we could always order more, if we wanted to... and we found that we did indeed want to. After ordering, we headed outside for a seat by the fire. It was a beautiful Saturday night, and we were hoping to catch the food truck. Unfortunately, it ended at 7pm & thus we started our dinner search while sipping. A Mexican joint was added to our radar, with delivery available- sweet. This stop earned a bookmark for a future visit. The first round total after stamp was $8, before tip.

Yelp
Very cute bar with good beer and a nice size, dog friendly patio. Some good food options nearby and a coffee shop across the street. Bartender was super nice and put up with all my annoying questions. They also participate in the Sidewalk Dog beer passport! We'll definitely be back if we're in the area

Yelp
Great service, great beer. Love the ambiance. Taproom is always so fun! Cassidy took excellent care of us. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the the area, you won't regret it. Try the sours, pilsners, and IPAs. All are great!

Yelp
I've long thought that with the proliferation of microbreweries and tap rooms throughout the Twin Cities the ones that would survive are the ones that have good beer and are a welcoming neighborohood gathering spot. Wabasha succeeds on both accounts. Their patio is not fancy, but it's plenty spacious. We were pleased to find live music -a young woman singing with her acoustic guitar-while we settled in with beer for a round of cribbage. I've been a fan of the place since before it opened. I even participated in the kickstarter. They've brew both rotating and regular selections, but my favorite is the West Side Popper, a jalepeno infused cream ale. Perfect beer for any time of year. When we were there recently, we over heard a bartender saying ownership had recently changed hands. We hope the new owner takes what is good about it and only makes it better.

Yelp
I was out in St. Paul and decided to jump across the river to give @wabashabrewing a try. They have a large outdoor space to bask in the sun when its nice out and a covered patio as well for those that have a sun aversion (or when its raining). Inside is a cozy space where I sat at the bar and enjoyed four beers plus a recommendation from the beertender. Lager del Sol: A smooth Mexican Lager with an aroma of light corn. Thick white foam and a hint of citrus flavor made me forget for a hot second that it was raining outside. Anniversary IPA: An Experimental IPA with a new hop variety, new malts, and new yeast for the brewery. It has a medium bitterness that doesn't express itself as astringent (good thing!) and mild notes of both grapefruit rind and spicy hops. A unique IPA for sure! Vanilla Porter: A malty porter with sweetness from the added vanilla. The body isn't too heavy which makes it easier to drink year round. The sweetness is controlled and provides balance to the roasty bitterness of the malt. Parts Unknown: A Black Cherry Sour with big bold tartness. If you like a sour that doesn't hide behind fruity sweetness, then this one's for you. Chatting with the beertender this is a newer beer for them, and as somebody who drinks a lot of Belgian sours I enjoyed this. High acidity and tartness with a medium-thin body. Strawberry-Rhubarb Kolsch: This Kolsch was fruited with strawberry and rhubarb. It is a summer crusher for sure! Fruity and sweet from the strawberry with a very mild tart / bitterness from the rhubarb. Crisp and clean from the lagering with some fruity esters from not just the fruit additions, but also the ale yeast. Glad that the beertender recommended it!

Yelp
What a charming place! Love this brew spot in St. Paul. Great beers and awesome vibes. Definitely add this to your list of beer spots to check out.

Yelp
Wabasha Brewing Company has a super friendly staff with a nice variety on the draft list. The bartender was happy to chat and make suggestions for the beer lovers among us. If I wasn't visiting from out of state, I may have taken advantage of the to go growlers available; both the Mango Implosion IPA and Strawberry Rhubarb Kolsch were delightful summer brews. We visited on a Friday evening in July and sat outside to enjoy live music [super fun covers spanning the decades] and dive into eats from the food options onsite. We started with the visiting food truck Tater Tot Temptations sharing a few different tots options during our first round. After some additional drinking, we shifted with dinner from the parking lot kitchen ubereats situation with fried chicken sandwiches and Beast-Style loaded fries from Mr Beast Burger. All in all this is a great neighborhood spot for the Westside; would love to visit again the next time I'm visiting the area.

Yelp
Stopped in one Sunday morning a few weeks ago, just myself and two others there for most my visit. The beertender & I discussed several of the beers. I had a pint and in the midst of discussing my second one a couple came in. I lost the beertender to them. Hey, no problem. Ok.....problem!! Twenty minutes she stood chatting w them. FINALLY another couple came in, sat next to me, so she had to come over to help them. Thank you!!! I could order a beer and tab out!!! I always say no matter how good or bad the beer is somewhere, 90% of the reason I come back....or I guess I don't come back is because of who's behind the bar. I get that people have friends, or their favorites but we're all customers..... Little else ruins an experience more than having to wait for service in this situation.

Yelp
Decent beer and no-frills space. Came on a decent enough evening to sit outside. The outdoor space here is nice, ample room on the side of the parking lot and a covered area right near the entrance. Didn't spend a lot of time inside, but looked to have plenty of space. Tried the Blueberry Cream Ale and the Raspberry Implosion IPA. Really enjoyed the Blueberry, very refreshing on a hot summer night. Not being a huge IPA person the Raspberry was still pleasant, plenty of berry flavor. Overall good and would definitely stop back.
google avatar

Gerardo L.

Yelp
The main thing is that the beer here is A+! I had the raspberry sour and the vanilla porter and they were both truly excellent. Additionally the place is clean, well laid out, and it has a big, inviting patio. Highly recommended all around.

Yelp
Lots of space in a renovated space in the brewery as well as outdoor seating! Masking required when not at the table, but I didn't see any problems with any of the patrons on this visit (so it felt safe). Two delicious brews to try: West Side Popper (Jalapeño surprise) and the Red Bonnet Amber. The food truck was a perfect paring for both brews! No small tasting at this time (maybe due to Covid?). Our happy accident during this visit: a street vendor came into the brewery (after we ate, of course) offering freshly prepared goodies: tamales, enchiladas, and-well-I heard tamales and that's all I needed. We had the tamales the next day and they were phenomenal! This doesn't happen at any other breweries that I know of...

Yelp
Had a little date night at Wabasha and absolutely loved it! The beer was great and the staff is really nice too. Masks are required when you're walking into the place to order, walking between tables, and going to the bathroom. The staff is all wearing masks and face shields. We tried Zeus and Mango Implosion (both IPAs) and the West Side Popper and Minnesota Pale Ale. Zeus was really everything you want out of an IPA - hop, rich color, and undertones of Orange and grapefruit. Mango Implosion had more of an aftertaste of mango rather than a true undertone, but it was really good! Goes down a little smoother than Zeus. West Side Popper was DEFINITELY jalapeño lol! You can smell the jalapeño as you're going in for a sip. The jalapeño hits the back of your throat so it's not necessarily spicy but you still get a kick. The Minnesota Pale Ale was a good follow-up to the Popper. Didn't have a kick, but smoother and a little easier to drink haha Everything was really great, but four stars because the patio area by the entrance to the building is completely bee-ridden. I'm allergic to bees, so I was slightly on edge the entire time. I know there were flowers behind me but I wasn't expecting that many bees.

Yelp
This is an update to my first review. I'm changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars. This may be my favorite brewery in the Twin Cities. As I mentioned before, I have never had a beer here that I disliked which is pretty amazing! Hats off to the head brewer. They do often have food trucks onsite and sometimes have live music (this is all pre-covid, of course). Bartenders are helpful and friendly.
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
Attentive bartender - yep. Tasty brews - rhubarb kolsch was so so good. Relaxed patio - absolutely. Easy to get to- yes. Parking- was a breeze.

Yelp
Wabasha brewing has a wonderful neighborhood location and they have some encouraging partnerships with other local companies and food trucks. They don't brew many (any) stouts and have only one IPA on tap -- which is discouraging. I wish they'd tap other local breweries to round out their selection. Their recent Holy Smoke! raunch beer was a high point for me: a light, crisp amber with a hint of smoke and maple bacon. Not as dark as I craved... but It paired well with weekend Bloody Marys. A solid brewery worth watching - and visiting. Dog friendly.

Yelp
We were here back around the first part of April and I'm just now getting to this. It is located kind of in an out of the way spot (kinda by the Wabasha Caves, around the corner from Boca Chica). On the edge of an slightly downhill from a residential area. Must be nice to have a place like this in your neighborhood that you can walk to. One big selling point here is that it is designed for the 21 and over crowd so it definitely has a more relaxed, vibe to it. So I liked this place immediately. They have about ten beers ready to go categorized by Light, Medium, Dark, Hoppy. I ordered the Implosion IPA (just couldn't bring myself to order the with Mango variation) and got to mooch a little off my wife flight. That West Side Popper is an interesting take I never would have thought of putting together. Jalapenos. Go figure. The Son of Eric Cream Ale was good too. My personal favorite was the Implosion. There is no food menu but they do encourage you to bring in your own and do have menus from some places in the vicinity for you to order for delivery. Saw a few people good a few doors down to the closest place and brought back tacos to go with their brew. Whats better than beer and tacos? They are open Wednesday thru Sunday. The new taproom they opened up last September looks great. There is a nice big lot next to the brewery and plenty of free parking on the street. A nice place to go for quality beer and be able to have a conversation with the person next to you without shouting.

Yelp
My wife and I had a Groupon for 2 flights of beer for $11. Score. It turns out, it was their Octoberfest celebration, so we got a free mug for being one of the first 50 people there. Awesome. We entered the bar and one of my good buddies happened to be there with his new girlfriend. Awesome! We got a table on the side and had lots of laughs. Really good people. I got their lighter beers for my first flight. The blonde was really good and I enjoyed their pumpkin beer. My 2nd flight was all IPAs. All of them were fantastic! I really liked the mango IPA. Very smooth. The atmosphere was cool and I really liked our bartender, super nice. Great Tap Room!
google avatar

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Right off the bat, let me start off by saying this since I just learned about it from reading other reviews, it is great that they do not allow kids inside their taproom. I understand that some of the negative Yelp reviews come from that, but I actually respect them for that decision. I've visited over fifty breweries in Minnesota and taprooms are just not a place for children. There is nothing more irritating than having children screaming and running around in a taproom. A place meant for adults of drinking age to hang out and socialize with fellow adults, not children. Also taking into account the fact that the max capacity at this cozy taproom is sixty-one people, it makes zero business sense to allow children inside. That's just my two cents. I hate that I don't remember his name but the bartender who helped us on an early Sunday afternoon was fantastic! He was friendly, he had suggestions for beers to try out, he even brought out our flight to the table and we were able to pay from there too. Too often in the craft brewery scene you have these bartenders working that come off as uninterested or pretentious, so whenever someone goes out of their way to make me feel welcomed I will remember it. Good job, dude! Wabasha is not reinventing the wheel of brew-making and they don't have to because what they do they are doing it right. I had a flight with their West Side Popper Jalapeno Cream Ale, Implosion with Mango IPA, China Doll White Stout, and Brown Eyed Woman Brown Ale. I like trying weird things when it comes to beer and having had "spicy" or "jalapeno" beers and ciders in the past, they have not gone my way, yet I still order them for some reason. Thankfully, the West Side Popper was the most drinkable of the kind that I've tried. It carried a bit of heat but nothing unmanageable. It tasted like a jalapeño flavored beer. I'm sure it would pair well with some tacos. Getting a smaller pour of it is still probably the way to go, as I could see the heat building up with a pint or two of it. I've never tried their Implosion IPA alone, but the mango take on it was exactly what you'd expect. The mango made it a smooth drinker, balancing out the hops. Brown Eyed Woman is typical, nothing mind-blowing, but if you are a fan of brown ales you will enjoy it. I got some toffee taste on first sip and a bit of plum for aftertaste. The absolute winner and the best beer I tried at Wabasha was China Doll. The white chocolate white stout combination is delicious and I'm sad I did not grab a pint of it before leaving because it's worth having more than just a small pour of it. It tastes like white chocolate, plain and simple! It's light and easy to drink. Anyone who has a "sweet tooth" should enjoy this beer. Their flights are only a flat $10 regardless of which four beers you choose and there are no exceptions to which you can pick. For an even better deal, on Thursday's they have "happy hour" which means $7 flights. Now that is a steal! On the West Side of St. Paul, this is a perfect spot to check out if you are in the area and want to avoid the crowds and parking hassles of downtown. Good prices, good service, good beer. You got me as a customer. That easy.

Leith B.

Yelp
I was recently in the area and had a chance to visit the taproom. Really enjoyed the location and the beers. I particularly liked the Strawberry Rhubarb Kölsch and the Sir Doryu... I think that was listed as a Pub Ale, but is a British Dark Mild. Very enjoyable, easy drinking beer. I did also sample some of the Popper style beers. I'm normally not a fan of pepper beers, but I found these very drinkable. When I am back in the area I will definitely stop in again. Thanks!

Yelp
Great drinks and service. Selection was awesome, what a variety! We had a great time def will go back

Yelp
On the quest of visiting every single Minnesota brewery, I stumbled upon Wabasha Brewing randomly while wandering through St. Paul and so it became the stop #58. Instantly upon walking in I loved the vibe, the small yet cozy interior mostly made up of wood and brick, and a super friendly beertender who greeted me and my friends with a giant smile and a loud hello. For a small brewery they had a nice amount of beer offerings, from classic IPAs to more crafty and unique creations like the China Doll White Stout or the West Side Popper Jalapeno Cream Ale (and of course we tried those). They offer flights and that is always the best way to go if you're new to a brewery and just getting to know it. Trying as many different brews is always the goal. My personal favorite was the Implosion with Mango IPA. Same body and fullness as the OG Implosion but with a hint of sweetness from the mango flavor. Refreshing, light, and perfect for any sunny patio day. Another one I loved was the China Doll White Stout. It's a white chocolate white stout...just the fact that any chocolate beer can be a light beer always surprises me and usually in a good way. The flavors were perfectly balanced even though you can definitely taste the chocolate; it's smooth and light and works beautifully. Again, for such a small spot they have a big taste going on! I am someone who really enjoys when a brewery has a small kitchen or a small food menu just to enhance the experience because who doesn't like to nibble on a little snack while enjoying a cold beer? Since Wabasha is such a small spot, sadly, there was no kitchen and that's why one star has to go. They do have food trucks every once in a while which definitely helps! However, I did appreciate that they had chips and cheese curds, and other various snacks just in case you do want to munch on something. There was one beer that sounded delicious, Red Desert IPA, but they were out of it so, per the suggestion of our friendly beertender, I'm definitely going to have to hunt it down in the liquor store or make another visit to the taproom. Chances are, with how tasty all the beers were, we're going to pick up a lot more other brews from them for the summer as well and definitely be back to enjoy more pours.

Tommy S.

Yelp
- small, subtle space with fantastic windows in the front - great rail seating along front windows - space is clean - staff is friendly and prompt - drinks served with coaster - beer is fairly good....porter and stout are the best - there is an outdoor seating area $ - undesirable and unfashionable star sinks/ glass rinsers used - unpredictable and disgusting three sink system used to clean glassware instead of time and temperature controlled units - growlers are filled with plastic tubing that is attached to the beer tap. This is random, unnecessary, and allows your beer to be exposed to bacteria and cross contamination - the concept for their beer selection board is a complete mess. Look for a paper menu located on the bar. - the "for sale" art on the walls does nothing for the atmosphere and is awkward in this space. - prices are about 1$ high - terrible location
google avatar

Alison T.

Yelp
Went here for happy hour and they seemed a little in over their head. Service was slow and it was very crowded. Not enough seating! The beer was alright, but the prices were great. I'd be willing to go back, maybe not when it's pouring rain because I love a good patio

Kate B.

Yelp
The beer is great. We sat on the patio with small children, I'd recommend leaving kids at home for the best experience.
google avatar

Jake V.

Yelp
It's great to see a brewery that caters to the 21+ crowd. No more Saturday afternoons ruined by parents expecting other people to watch their kids while they have a beer. Bravo to Wabasha Brewing. Also, their Implosion with Mango is one of the best beers you'll find in the MSP area!
google avatar

Baramee C.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour...AND they actually have happy hour (3-6p - $2 dollars off pints). Yassss! The bartender/guy/girl that serves me beer was awesome. Helpful-ish. My questions weren't all that good. But I liked him nonetheless, he had a great sense of humor and was able to keep customers happy. They have chips for $1 (such good chips too) and beef sticks for $5. The beer selection is good (there's a lot to choose from (so almost anything you like they'll be able to find something that'll work for you. They have a parking lot which is nice (is decently large also. The inside is on the smaller side, but they also have a patio. TLDR: definitely worth checking out.
google avatar

danielle l.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and better staff. They're so nice the beer is amazing. I like the red bonnet the best. And now, they have a great food truck in the back if you get hungry. The food truck serves food for everyone, vegetarian, wings, burgers, you name it.
google avatar

Suzie S.

Yelp
We went here for a drinks and Girl Scout cookies promo they had advertised. There was a variety of small beers and a few "pairing cookies" suggestions per beer. The guys really liked the beers and us girls liked the cookies. Win-win! The bar staff was friendly and personable. The place was clean and outside seating was dog-friendly.
google avatar

Katie E.

Yelp
A great find in this quiet St. Paul neighborhood. And worth the trip if you don't live nearby. Our group tried a wide variety of beers including the West Side Popper jalapeno cream ale. We enjoyed each one, but the Implosion with Mango was an overall favorite. Unfortunately, they were out of the Belgian Tripel, but we will try another time! The taco shop two blocks away is the perfect option for authentic Mexican take out food.....and it paired well with the beer on their patio. Great, friendly service and a mellow vibe.
google avatar

Graham S.

Yelp
Their West Side Popper is easily one of the best beers you can have in the Twin Cities.
google avatar

McKenzie S.

Yelp
Great little brewery with a warm and friendly atmosphere. It's pretty small inside, but there is still enough seating since it doesn't get too busy. Maybe just because it's winter. It's missing some unique touches that some of the other breweries have, but I think that will come over time. The beer was delicious and the bartenders were awesome. They had some fun flavors. One had jalapenos! It was a little too smokey for my taste but I can see why people would love it! Don't pass this place up just because it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of some of the larger breweries. I think it will just keep getting better and better with time! (Also, I'm sure they have lots of fun activities once it's warm and not -10!)

Marilyn G.

Yelp
They were very rude and did not accept our brewpub passport. Just said they were trying to generate revenue. Well that's why we were there in the freezing cold drinking beer and inviting friends there both this weekend and last. We were at Bad Weather Brewing earlier today and they accepted our passport. We were a lot more likely to spend more money and stay longer if they make good on their promise. I understand it's Covid that's why we were out trying to patronize a small business. We could have stayed home and stayed cozy by our fire. Won't be back.
google avatar

Kathrine L.

Yelp
I've been to many breweries all over the Twin Cities area, Wabasha is by far the best! Great selection - The Red Bonnet is amazing! I've been to this brewery several times in the past year and I love that there's an ever-changing selection, but the classics stay on tap. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The taproom/facilities are extremely clean.
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
I had a pint of the MN Pale Ale and 12oz tulip of the Mango Implosion. Both tasted great and had a smooth finish. The service was great, and I would definitely come back when in St.Paul. Would probably say this is a $$ for $6 pints of the pale ale and a tulip of the Mango IPA.
google avatar

Dmae A.

Yelp
Relaxed, clean atmosphere. Reasonable prices. You can bring in your own tacos from next door. Staff friendly & knowledgeable.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
And the beat goes on, another brewery checked off the list. The metro has some great breweries and this one jumped way up on my list of favorites. The taproom is small and cozy, like drinking in a buddies living room. They will be moving to a larger space in the front of the building sometime soon but I hope they keep this back area open. 6 beers on tap and I got a flight so I could try them all (obviously) The Red Dessert IPA was my favorite with the Son of Eric Cream Ale a solid second place. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem- seriously, I don't even know how I found it the first time. Tucked away in a corner in St. Paul, this sort of underground taproom has some really awesome beers. I've liked everything, and that's rare! Make sure you try the Jalapeno Cream Ale. Sounds bad, tastes awesome! Its small taproom, so seating can be limited, but its just so damn cozy! They have a lot of board games and a bunch of menus for places nearby, including several life changing taco joints. Oh, and they have a great happy hour! I can't remember when it runs, but its $3 pours!
google avatar

Jessi T.

Yelp
Hubby and I go here pretty frequently. The beers are always tasty and the staff is very friendly. We love it here :)
google avatar

Crystal S.

Yelp
Update to reflect new taproom The beer is still awesome, the Lawnmower/Snowblower/Cathedral Porter remains my favorite beer of all time! The new taproom is beautiful and cozy. I love the rotating art and great service. Overall, this is a great local brewery with really awesome beer, definitely recommended!

Katie M.

Yelp
I can't wait to go back here in person and hang out. Such awesome ambiance in the brewery! China Doll beer is my favorite but you can't go wrong no matter what you choose!
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
Just the right size. A great variety. Great location and near sooo many Mexican restaurants. Next time, when it's warm anyway, I'll be biking over. I want another beer.

Yelp
Another fine Saint Paul, Minnesota, establishment! By luck, new travels put me in South Saint Paul, so I had to visit Wabasha. There was nothing I tried that I didn't like (six Jimmies covered Darktober, MN Pale Ale, Wabasha Fresh Hop IPA, Red Dessert IPA, Road Closure Koelsch, and Mango Implosion IPA in that order). I'd say the Koelsch varied most from style, but was still quite tasty. Ya, sure. Everything I had I really liked. And all very pleasantly balanced, though individually different. Though my travels may not bring me here often, they totally deserve the business!

Stephen S.

Yelp
They are very friendly and very COVID conscious. They have continually monitored staff with the customers. There is only outdoor patio seating. The food truck offers great choices. The craft beer choices vary from week to week. They are working hard to keep their customers contented.

Chance B.

Yelp
Very good beer, nice selection of things you can't get in the liquor store, in addition to their flagship beers. Even though it was chilly out we got a place under a tent. They had their own food truck (order through UberEats) and a separate pizza truck out front. The peach IPA was very good, as well as their other seasonal Zeus IPA.
google avatar

Marc D.

Yelp
While the beer was very good, the service was some of the worst that we have ever had. We were seated at a table for more than 20 minutes, with two bartenders on and no one bothered to say hi, hello or anything. When we finally went up to the bar we had to wait more than 5 minutes to get helped. I can understand this if the place was busy but it was very slow, middle of the afternoon on Mothers Day. We will not be going back because of the service.

Yelp
Came here with our newborn to celebrate my birthday around 5 pm on a Friday. Upon entering we were told no children were allowed in the taproom, but we could sit outside. We left immediately and went to Bad Weather Brewing where they do allow children to be inside. We'll be sticking with more inclusive breweries from now on.

Yelp
Small brewery right now, but big plans. It's in an interesting partially-industrial area near the caves in St. Paul. Awesome staff and the crowd is super nice. Rumor has it they are planning on building a patio and expanding to the remainder of the building. I loved the "West Side Popper" - it tastes like a jalapeno popper since it's cream ale. Great flavor, great finish, and I've never had anything like it. I thought their "Son of Eric Cream Ale" was also a nice beer. Other people at the table enjoyed the IPA's. I thought the "Snowblower Robust Porter" was a bit too sweet and vanilla-forward, but I will be back. This place is getting big with the west side/west st paul crowd.

Yelp
It's rare that a new brewery has great beers across the board! The West Side Popper jalapeño cream ale may have a name that scares the non-spicy loving folks away, but honestly it's hands down a phenominal beer without a spicy kick (has a smooth light smoky hint of pepper to it). Currently West Side Popper is available at many liquor stores to purchase in a bomber sized bottle. The Son of Eric cream ale is it's twin minus the peppers. The snowblower and lawn mower vanilla porters are a very robust light drinking dark beer. The IPAs are a hoppy person's dream. There was a cherry one on tap at one time (which was great) and now a red ale named after a local band Red Dessert. In the fall they had some PHENOMINAL firken cask beers such as Darktober and a Squashtober (my all time favorite, made with butternut squash). Space may be a little cozy but plans are to open a larger area soon at the street level. The current tap room is handicap accessible with an elevator lift at the entrance. On warm days the patio is a great option and on special occasions the fenced in parking lot is closed to allow for parking lot parties with bands, food truck and outdoor taps. Food trucks also rotate through on a weekend basis. Currently children (anyone under 18) aren't allowed in the tap room, but there really isn't much to entertain a child nor is there food being served (believe that's a law not all breweries abide by). Kids are welcomed during outdoor parking lot events. The bartenders are great and you'd never pick out the owners as they are jacks of all trades, doing all of the work from mopping floors to brewing and kegging/bottling beer. They are very friendly and quite knowledgeable. Great location and happy to see that they have sunday growlers sales. Can't say enough great things about this place!

Yelp
A brew room disguising itself as a neighborhood coffee shop. It's a small brew room (At the moment) that has good beer. I had the West Side Popper, just a wonderfully smooth blond with a touch of heat from jalapenos. I was surprised at how well it worked. There is not much more you can ask. Will be back.

Yelp
I can not say enough amazing things about this brewery. They are very knowledgeable and helpful with the beer selections, as well as fun and humorous customer service. I would recommend anyone and everyone to come here.
