"There are meat and threes and then there’s Wade’s. It’s the winner of the 2024 James Beard Foundation America’s Classic Award. It is South Carolina’s third winner and the first for the Upstate; the award was created in 1998 to honor restaurant excellence for concepts with timeless appeal. Wade’s feeds thousands of guests each day. Fifteen hundred orders of mac and cheese are served, as well as 750 turkey plates. Yeast rolls cap out at 3,500 because they simply can’t bake more. Wade’s is known for valuing its staff of 130+, offering benefits to full-time employees, and providing scratch-made meals to guests at an extraordinarily fair price." - Stephanie Burnette

First time at Wade’s after hearing many good things about the restaurant. - Clearly the locals know this place well, and the love is obvious; it’s an institution here, woven into the fabric of everyday life. - There was a roughly ten minute wait to get in, on a Monday at about 1:15 pm. The atmosphere was vibrant, with a welcoming small-town vibe. - There was a decent selection for the 4-item plate of sides; I ended up with okra/tomatoes, mac-n-cheese, sweet potato soufflé and speckled butter beans. The soufflé was very good, with plenty of marshmallow. The mac-n-cheese was classic, just like the dish your favorite great aunt takes to church potluck. And the butter beans had a nice umami, I’d guess developed from a long, unhurried preparation with the right mix of spices thrown in. - The apple pie a la mode was a tasty finish. - Service was quick and efficient, but could have been more friendly.

Definitely awesome old school meat and two or three or vegetable plate. Been around for years and definitely worth the drive.

Google
This family-friendly restaurant is touted to be the best Southern style food in the area. Being an out-of-towner family insisted we give it a try. We sampled several entrees and sides. The standouts; chicken salad, cole slaw, and potato salad. We also tried the fried chicken, beef stew, turkey with dressing, butter beans, greens, mac 'n cheese, sweet potato casserole. Cornbread and yeast rolls were served with the meal. Although, it will fill you up. It's not mama's cookin'. The seasonings seem to be lacking.

Google
Wow! The food here is incredibly tasty! This is the best food I’ve eaten in Spartanburg County. Easy parking. Very clean restaurant. Pleasant service. Comfortable seating. Amazing food!

Google
We loved it! Meeting friends over the holidays and this happened to be in the middle. The food was great and the service staff was top notch. Honestly surprised to find such tasty fare from such a big place. Amazing value.

Google
This place has been serving good ole southern cookin’ since 1947 and it has passed the test of time supremely! Delish fried chicken Lima beans and outrageous sweet potato souffle! Sweet tea unbelievable peanut butter pie and all for about $15 bucks!no wonder it has been awarded a James beard award for exceptional regional cooking…do NOT miss if you are ever in the Spartanburg area

Google
I love Wade’s! My grandparents have taken me here many times. Most recently, we arrived five minutes before closing, but our visit was still great. Trinady is a great waitress! I loved the turkey and gravy. I wish it didn’t make me so full so that I could enjoy the Mac and cheese and the broccoli casserole! The Southern food and feel is fantastic. I high recommend Wade’s, y’all!

Google
Fantastic food - best fried green tomatoes I've ever had. Everything is always good... fresh yeast rolls – made there. Great service – fast fast fast. Reasonably priced.

Linda S.

Yelp
What a delightful southern restaurant. It's classic southern food served with a southern smile. The service is always stellar and the food comes out fast. This is a very comfortable dining establishment.

Yelp
Had a late lunch with my daughter and two oldest grandsons. By coincidence, I looked a few people ahead and saw some close friends ( like family) and asked them to join us for what turned out to be a mouthwatering dining experience. There were seven of us total and I wondered if the waitress was going to be able to handle it. She was working a large area of the restaurant by herself. Actually she did a tremendous job and got everything perfect and on time. Accordingly, she got a very generous tip; well deserved. The food was hot and tasty. We did have to wait in line but it moved fast. From start to finish this was a perfectly executed example about what makes Wade's so special!

Shanda C.

Yelp
The food was so-so. The fried chicken, and turnip greens didn't have much taste, the Mac & cheese was dry and the dinner roll was very salty. I did like the sweet potato casserole, it was perfect! The service was ok, not rude but not overly friendly either. The rest of the employees that we ran across were very friendly and that's why I'll go back one more time. I'm sure running a restaurant is harder than I can imagine and I'll give them grace. The ambience was pretty good, down home kinda vibe and the prices are great!

Mary A.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant, great service. Consistent tasting food. Excellent take out.

Nate N.

Yelp
Got the Meat & 3 (sides) and food overall was tasty, but the highlight was the Sweet Potato Soufflé.

Roth M.

Yelp
Nothing wrong it has good service I just don't think the food is amazing. I like the yeast rolls

Linda R.

Yelp
Worth a journey for a "meat and three". Late lunch, quick service after a short wait time. The key to food service is to keep it simple and do it well. Wades hits all the boxes.

Yelp
I'm not sure the young hip crowd would like Wade's, but I am 70 and absolutely loved it. My wife and I arrived at 3:15 and the line was out the door. The line moved quickly, and I would suggest you look at the menu board while in line to determine your order prior to being seated. They serve various meats with either two sides or three sides. Upon being seated the service is like a conveyor belt. The server takes your drink order and your food order. Almost immediately after she brings your drinks and bread someone else brings your food. I had the turkey and dressing with sweet potato casserole and Cole slaw. The turkey was outstanding as were the potatoes. The Cole slaw had a lot of pickle in it and was not my favorite. My wife had the baked chicken with turnip greens and mashed potatoes and gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were very good. We finished off the meal by splitting a piece of peanut butter pie. The serving was substantial at $2.99 and tasted delicious. Drink prices are from another time with sweet tea at $1.59 and soft drinks at $1.79. Our total bill with tax was just over $29.00. I look forward to returning and trying their meatloaf which was recommended to us by a few people in line.

Michelle H.

Yelp
Service was great. Food came out quickly. Staff nice. Food is bland. My son said the hamburger steak tasted like a tv dinner. No flavor. Atmosphere pleasant.

Annette B.

Yelp
I was amazed there was a line to the front door on a Monday! But don't let that worry you. The line goes fast and you get sat pretty quick. I was impressed. Especially since they do not take reservations! Food reminds me of my grandma's home cooking. Food comes out LIGHTING fast! Savanna, our server was very sweet and on point answering all of my questions. It's true what I heard. The place works like a well oiled machine.

Glen H.

Yelp
I ordered turkey and dressing with rice and gravy plus potato salad with sweet tea and rolls! Everything was delicious as always and will try from there again!

Monica H.

Yelp
Line was long and it was our first time. We were shocked by how fast it moved!!! We sat down and our server showed up immediately. Got our drinks and took our order. Food was on the table within 7 minutes. It was amazing!!!! We will definitely be back!

Lea A.

Yelp
Cheap meals that are pretty good I've been coming here since I was a kid and it's stayed fairly solid. Not a huge fan of the menu changing every day because I can't get what I want half the time but the food is pretty good like grandmas cooking style

Maggie B.

Yelp
The menu is simple to follow. Limited items, all made from scratch. Delicious food arrived hot and within 5 minutes. We were seated immediately, server was quick to take our order. Atmosphere is like the country cafe only bigger.

Keith H.

Yelp
Yummy family run local joint. Visited on a Sunday after church. Had to wait outside thru the line but it was actually really good. Country cooking with southern love. Washed it all down with fresh brewed sweet tea. Yummy!!!! Turkey & dressing was spot on as well as creamed corn and creamed potatoes with gravy.

Shevelle F.

Yelp
Spartanburg staple. My wife loves their turkey dressing and has to have it. I opt for veggie plates and it never disappoints. Nothing fancy, just good southern cooking!

Vanessa E.

Yelp
Hot food, friendly staff. I loved this place. I am definitely putting them in my registry for premium food eateries!

Shawna R.

Yelp
Lots of seating, friendly staff. Great home style cooking. A mea Y and two vegetables. There are lots of choices and the food comes very quickly.

Stephen K.

Yelp
Great food, outstanding service. We arrived and there was a bit of a line, there was 5 of us in our party. She seated us at a nice table. I had fried chicken and mash potatoes. Dinner was delicious. Our server was very kind and helpful

Teri D.

Yelp
The food here is incredible! The prices are great and the portions are large! Definitely some of the best comfort foo in the area!

Matthew L.

Yelp
My favorite place to get country cookin' The service is amazing - Review made by Brittany Lyda

Madison S.

Yelp
Great service and food was beyond amazing always love taking the family there!! Wish that the building was a little larger for the line so people weren't outside freezing!! Overall excellent!!

Noah F.

Yelp
This is always a wonderful experience to eat here, it is a great after church meal with family. The service is quick and the line is always through the door fairly quick as well as their waiters and waitresses being very polite and understanding. It has a very pleasant and home-like atmosphere. Combined with the comfort food classics it's a wonderful dining experience after church and more. My personal favorite is the fried chicken. The only complaint is you have to be there at certain times to get a fresh batch of food, but apart from that it's perfect!

Constance A.

Yelp
This was my third visit to Wades restaurant. I have a few new pictures. I can tell you that this was the most moist excellent chicken breast I've eaten in a long time. I love the white meat or the chicken but it's often dry not an issue here at Wades. I just want to share with you picures Of the new things I ordered.

Lanetra J.

Yelp
This is a must visit when in Spartanburg! The food is consistently seasoned and very good! There is usually a line so get there early! I have yet to order anything I didn't like! Enjoy!

Blaine G.

Yelp
Cafeteria food. The service was fine. Southern comfort food. A little better than average. Not too many food choices of course because of cafeteria style restaurant.

Eugene A.

Yelp
Excellent country cooking with a changing daily menu. I had to try the meatloaf and boy was I glad I did. It had the perfect consistency and flavoring and came topped with gravy. I added sweet potato soufflé and green beans and both were delicious. They offer many southern style dishes and desserts. They've been around for decades and it's no surprise why.

Rosa M.

Yelp
Wades is the best restaurant around for some good old fried chicken and sides. I have purchased many meals from wade and it is always correct, no issues and the food is awesome. This location, has great polite staff, it has take out from calling in or online and also sit it, which is always full, which goes to show how popular this restaurant is. Great food, which includes drinks and desserts!!

Ruth M.

Yelp
Great food. No atmosphere. I'm not sure if that's important if the food is good. Reasonably priced.

K. F.

Yelp
They say it's home cooking. Well the ole saying must be true. If you eat crappy food and like it, most likely if you get good food you'll complain. There's nothing good about this food. It taste like tv dinner food. The corn muffin was so bad I spit it out. It was probably the worst food I've ever consumed, yet there's always a line. No wonder half the south suffers from some sort of malnutrition and or over weight. They don't know any better. The vegetables are canned and all the nutrients are cooked out of it. Told my girlfriend this had to be the worst joke ever played on me. Never ever take me there again. They don't even put out dinner role plates and expect you to eat like an animal. Service was good, but it's not the servers fault that this food is absolutely horrible. Stay away if you value your health.

Yelp
We are traveling, spending the night in Spartanville. This place had great reviews and I was in the mood for veggies. There was a wait, as evidently this is THE place the locals eat after work; dine in and take out, there was a line. But the staff efficiently moved us all to tables in one of the clean, large dining rooms. We quickly received our fresh tea(only that or sodas) while looking over the menu. This is southern cookin' y'all- choose a meat from about 8 choices, and either 2 or 3 veggies from a dozen. Or a veggie plate of 4. They have kids meals also. They have set items and additional ones of the day. Choice of roll or cornbread muffin. Even had vinegar on the table for my turnips. All of the staff was busy but friendly, and our food came out hot in a timely manner. I got turnip greens, black eyed peas(a bit plain), cornbread dressing(sans gravy) and sweet potato soufflé(casserole). Hubby got fried chicken, creamed corn and green beans. Reminded me of visiting grandma's. Our sweet server kept our tea glasses full and of course tried to tempt us with a slice of pie, but we were pleasantly stuffed. The big surprise - our bill was only $25! (Plus tip). It's be n around since 1949 but obviously someone understands restaurant management- efficient, tasty, friendly, reasonably priced. Wish we had one of these back home.

Larry S.

Yelp
Was hearing about this all week, all good things. I think this must be one of the most popular restaurants in the area. So much so that my cousin said we should go after 2:00 PM on Sunday, after the huge church crowds. About a 25 minute drive. When we arrived at about 2:15 and there were not that many cars, so we felt we made the right decision. Unfortunately for us, and many others, the dining room was closed. Our option was to order to go, or visit another restaurant. With all the expectations I voted for to go meals. We ordered, difficult because of list of delicious looking entrees and sides. We waited about 15 minutes and our orders came out, neatly packaged in styrofoam and a heavy plastic bag. The most difficult part was the wonderful aromas on the 25 minute ride back home, while very hungry. Can you hear the growling stomachs? I opted for the turkey dressing and gravy, with collard greens and fried okra. Also two cornbread muffins, which were saved, the stuffing was enough. Turkey was fork tender and delightful, stuffing was moist and wonderful, gravy excellent. Collards were superb, just a little hot pepper vinegar elevated them. Fried okra was also excellent, I'm sure even better hot. And I finished it with a piece of sumptuous pecan pie. My cousin had ham steak with creamed corn and sweet potato casserole. His wife had hamburger steak with broccoli cheese casserole and mac & cheese. Empty containers were a good sign of how they enjoyed the meal. Later we heard that there was an incident of backed up toilet that was the cause of dining room closure. I would definitely go back when I am in the area again. Yes!

Bob H.

Yelp
Good southern cooking. Traditional meat-and-three. Quick service and plenty of food. Don't let the long line discourage you, they move people through pretty quickly.

Beth G.

Yelp
We were seated right away, it was busy but a pleasant environment. The waitress was kind and courteous Plus very attentive. Food came fast and piping hot. Everything we ordered was delicious! First time here with a gift card. We will be back. Thank you!

Diane S.

Yelp
Exceptionally good restaurant. Ate there and the food was so good, ordered take out for another family member. The entree was ample, the side dishes were familiar and well done. The apple pie was one of the best I have tasted in a long time, Only wish it wasn't such a drive from where I live, over 20 miles. Could management consider taking over the former restaurant in Greenville that was a buffet that closed, was in a good location, maybe as a substation?

ToRo G.

Yelp
A local family restaurant which appeals to a lot of people. Although the price is reasonable however my personal opinion is that the food was heavy and greasy. Their menu was limited on choices but we will give it another try

Terry M.

Yelp
What can you say? This place is an institution. Good old-fashioned meat and two (though three is an option). Great tea. Tasty desserts. I went with a group of coworkers. There was a line when we got there but we were seated quickly, the service was good (thanks, Trinady) and the food was equally great. Like eating Sunday dinner at your Southern grandmother's home. A must try.

Missi J.

Yelp
Nope. Never again. So I went inside and I ordered for me and my husband. My husband's order was to-go because we are truck drivers and he had been awake since 4am and it was 8pm so he trying to get to sleep so he wanted to eat before he went to bed. So the server brought my food out and right after that brought my husband's food out, so I said I'm going to have to run this out to the truck to my husband and I'll be right back. I came back like 2 minutes later and the door was locked and it wasn't even 8:15 and online it said the place didn't close until 10:00 so I was not expecting to find the door locked. So I'm standing there knocking on the door telling two of the employees who could clearly hear me that I had food on the table inside and explaining that I had to leave to take food out to my husband and that I needed to go inside and eat. They just stood there smirking like they were watching something amusing and so as a result I ran around to the other side of the building and ran back into the restaurant thru a door that people were using to leave and I went in and sat down to start eating. I was asked what the problem was and I had some very colorful words to describe the employees that wouldn't unlock the door for me. I said what I said and I offer no apology whatsoever. I should have never had to go through any of that. I should have never been treated with such a total lack of courtesy. They should have just unlocked the door for me and if they couldn't they should have told me they were gonna have to get the manager to let me in

Sue G.

Yelp
This was the first time eating here. There was a line going out the door and I asked a lady how it was, she said very good. We didn't have to wait long before we were seated. I thought all the signs were cute that were hanging on the wall as we waited. We both ordered the fried chicken. And we ordered one extra side each they charge .99 cents for. Well worth it. The creamed corn was really good. The fried chicken was moist and delicious. The batter was awesome! Crunchy! We enjoyed everything, I wasn't crazy for the pasta salad I didn't eat. The rest was great! Coffee is only .50 with your meal!! And it was very good as well. Our waitress was excellent, we didn't have to wait for anything. For dessert we had peanut butter pie. We shared it because we were so full. It was so creamy and had a great flavor of peanut butter! We would definitely come back here the food is awesome! Homemade not from a freezer premade #667 I had to hurry and get the 666 review covered up! Lol

Ryan B.

Yelp
The service was quick, we only waited a couple minutes till our food arrived. The food was okay, nothing special about their " famous" chicken.

Kevin H.

Yelp
Went once and it was the fastest a meal has ever come out lots of good food served up fast and hot. If you're looking for gourmet this isn't the place but it's great diner food. The hours are one down side don't expect much on the weekends

Daniel P.

Yelp
Tried and true fantastic place to eat. Can't beat Wade's meat and three. Always something good to eat when you come here. It's been a staple in my life since I was a child. Always great service and always great food. Also the peanut butter pie is out of this world.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
My family is from Spartanburg & I always visit when I come to town. Great food & friendly service! Prices are reasonable too.

Susu Z.

Yelp
Ohhhh yaaas!! Wades! It's amazing food. Always crowded but it's worth it. Down home cooking at its best. We love Wades. The service has always been great and the food comes quickly. The cobbler is my favorite, it's delicious. Reminds me of my grandma.

Pam B.

Yelp
Wonderful home cooking! I thought my mom must be in the kitchen cooking!!! I had yummy dressing with a light gravy with veggies. Yummy and nice service. Definitely worth the short trip off the interstate for.

Debbie A.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place to take my children for lunch. It's quite busy most times. Not open the same days and times as usual. Food is good, but not like it used to be. Atmosphere is crowded and loud. Prices have gotten to the point that it's cheaper to cook at home. But that's everywhere now.

Joshua B.

Yelp
Meat and three done in the traditional southern way. The menu changes daily, but there are a few staples that are there everyday such as turkey and dressing. Fridays they have country style steak that is second to none. They also make yeast rolls fresh all day.

Julie J.

Yelp
We had great food amd excellent service. Perfect for families with kids. Will definitely be back!

Will H.

Yelp
Wade's USED to be top notch, great portion size and they didn't nickel and dime you for everything. Plates used to come with two yeast rolls or cornbread and now they come with one (you pay extra to get two rolls now). Portion size is much smaller than it used to be, yet of course the price goes up. Besides that there's definitely a difference in the staff. They don't pay attention to what you're saying apparently because every time I go there something is wrong with my order. Which is frustrating especially when you ask them to read it back and they give you attitude. Here's a thought. Maybe if you listened to what I ordered and got it right a majority of the time I wouldn't even think to ask you to repeat it back to me. I'm in the restaurant business and hate leaving reviews but apparently talking to management with your concerns accomplishes nothing because my order still consistently gets messed up and I order the same thing every Thursday. Next step is to just stop eating there all together. Nothing agitates me more than spending money with a business that doesn't care. Because there are other places that do care that want revenue and they get it right. Not sure what the problem with Wades is right now but there's definitely one. Would love to keep eating there but again tired of spending my hard earned money on incorrect orders. Also the last several orders of yeast rolls I've gotten were smashed and burnt. Please do better!
