So I think for the true Waffle House experience, you should visit around 2am, post-drinking to really understand the hype that many have told me about. Sadly, I was not drunk or even tipsy when I visited during the lunch hour on a Saturday, so my first Waffle House experience was A-OK.
My partner and I had planned to visit the Georgia Aquarium, but needed some sustenance beforehand, and I saw there was this Waffle House nearby. Never having been to Waffle House, it had always been on my bucket list to try, especially since others had told me about their fandom for it. This location is in downtown Atlanta, right by the Peachtree Center station and Centennial Olympic Park.
When we visited, it was busy. Yet, we only had to wait five minutes until a booth opened up for the two of us. The menu is straightforward with breakfast classics as their go-to, which of course includes, waffles. There's nothing fancy or elevated about this place, but that's the appeal of it. It's straight up southern, country food that's made to order. I had the classic breakfast special, which came with two eggs, hashbrowns or grits (I chose hashbrowns), choice of protein, toast and a waffle.
Food was simple and satisfactory. Nothing special about it, but it does its job of satisfying your hunger. The waffle was the best part, especially with the Waffle House butter and syrup. Yes, it's bad for you, but what southern cooking isn't? I'd like to try the loaded hashbrowns next time, which I hear is a must. And of course, my next visit shall be post-bars, when everything is tastier when you're tanked.
