Wailua Shave Ice

What a TREAT! Technically ate here a month ago but I keep thinking back on the Triple Coconut Shave Ice and Da Ube One Shave Ice. And I wish I had some now. So. Freaking. Good. The shave ice is perfectly fine - melt in your mouth without freezing into a block in your bowl. The flavor is well distributed so each scoop you eat is awesome. And the cream on top w/ the roasted coconut flakes takes a 10/10 and brings to an 11. Ordered both with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream at the bottom. BAM. Epic. I had Shave Ice at various locations during my two week trip and Wailua Shave Ice was genuinely a league above the rest. If you have to pick one, this place is a no brainer. You will have missed out on greatness if you leave before stopping by. This was the last thing I got to eat during my time in Kauai and it was the icing on the cake, the cherry on top of the shake - Don't miss it!

Delicious shaved ice, we kept coming back to try new flavors. Enjoyed the fruity over the chocolate. Especially the strawberry flavors and lava. They fill the ice with flavors and then add coconut cream on top making each bite such a sweet and cold taste. Service is also great always very attentive and nice. Also felt the shaved ice was much better than açaí bowl.

We stayed a 5 minute walk away from Wailua Shave Ice. It was a nightly haunt for us. I dream about this shave ice. I am currently experiencing withdrawal. Delicious. Highly recommend getting the coconut foam on flavors that don't offer it. The cream adds a ton to the flavor. Am currently booking a 2nd trip to Kauai for shave ice alone.

We were super impressed with both their acai bowl and their shave ice! The acai was loaded with perfectly ripe fruit and the consistency was perfect. So many places have watery acai bowls, but NOT here! The shave ice was a 10, made with fresh mango juice and coconut cream. Would absolutely recommend coming here!

Great local shaved ice and Acai Bowl restaurant on the edge of Kapae Found by chance and strolled in. We got the Ube shaved ice which was delicious. Not overly sweet. Great taste combined with coconut and fresh whip cream topping. Staff is super friendly and helpful Recommend!

We had shaved ice there for nights out of the eight we were on the island. That should give you a good idea as to how incredible it was! Given the crowds, and their employees were all very professional at all times. The facility was clean. I have for 4 out of 5 Stars only because sitting was non-existent relative to the amount of people that flow through there each night. They had minimal sitting inside which is fine, but the outside seating which is maintained by the strip mall property was not good at all. Though this is not The Shave Ice companies direct responsibility, perhaps they can put some pressure on the property owner to beef up the seating, again considering the draw this place creates for the overall property.

Loved it! For some reason we were thinking this was like a snow cone but it's so much better! Even after watching them make it I'm not sure what exactly it's made of --- just know that it's super delicious!!! Size is big enough to share. I had the lilikoi which I liked the best of the ones we tried. They have won A LOT of awards for best shaved ice and it's completely obvious why....you need to go here!!!!

So good! I ordered Da Ube One. A bit on the sweeter side, but you can definitely taste the ube. The toasted coconut was crunchy and flavorful--paired perfectly with the cream. I went back to try the cookies and cream but sadly there wasn't as much flavor. I'd definitely get Da Ube One again next time I'm in the area. Welcoming atmosphere and efficient service. They even topped it off with more syrup when I asked. Heads up: there's a 3% credit card charge, so I paid in cash.

This place was on the list of must visit places during our visit, so we drove 40 minutes to get there. We were so excited! One person in our party has dietary restrictions, so we waited in line instead of using the machine. I was hoping to get a recommendation! Well we stood in line for at least 20 minutes while they pumped out orders of everyone who had come in after us before I realized that they were purposely not serving us. We were standing at the counter like fools! The girls making orders didn't even acknowledge our presence. Once I had decided that I would never spend my money with people like that, I told my daughter she could order from the machine if she wanted because she's not yet at the age to understand the importance of being a conscious consumer. Then two groups of European Americans came into the store and the workers didn't even wait for them to look at the machine. They said welcome! Can I help you? Both were served instantly. One even had questions about dietary restrictions. Wow. What a difference a skin color makes! Please do not give this horrible place your money! There are so many places on the island, and I look forward to finding another place to visit today. Spend your money with ethical businesses.

Wailua Shave Ice lived up to every bit of the hype. The flavors are fresh, the ice is soft and fluffy, and you can tell they care about quality. I got the Lava Flow, and the woman working there recommended adding sweetened condensed milk on top. It took everything to the next level without making it overly sweet. This is definitely not your typical neon syrup kind of shave ice. The fruit purées actually taste like fruit, and the whole thing feels way more satisfying than you'd expect from something that melts in minutes. Service was friendly, quick, and the vibe was relaxed. I'd absolutely come back next time I'm on the island.

Everyone told us that Wailua Shave Ice was the best on the island so of course we had to see for ourselves! You can order at the kiosk or wait in line to order with someone at the counter. We opted to wait in line so we can get recommendations. We ordered the Lava Flow, Love Potion #9 and Da Ube One. They have cute merch for sale too. Our orders were up and the girl told me that the Ube syrup is not as thick and that if I wanted more to just ask. It was perfect for me. My favorite part was the toasted coconut topping. Yum! The shave ice is so soft and creamy. We all enjoyed ours. This for sure was our favorite out of all the shave ice spots we tried during our trip! Wailua is a must!

Came here after a day of snorkeling at Lydgate beach. Love the shave ice here........we got Da ube one! Delish

I came in with high expectations based on the yelp rating. I ordered the pina colorada. At best, it was OK. Almost no flavor. Not that I want things super sweet. But yikes. It's possible other drinks are much better, and I somehow selected the less desirable option. Since I'm staying very close, I might come back and try the mango thing. But 4.7 rating means everything on the menu should be very good.

100% shave ice is NOT overrated in HI! Worth the stop - so good we came twice in our short time here! Highly recommend the lava flow & triple coconut!

This shave ice was calling out to us after we arrived on the island and got some other shopping finished. It's conveniently located right next to the ABC Store. We were greeted upon entering and helped promptly. They were more than happy to explain their menu to us and answer our questions. My kids both got the strawberry mango. I couldn't decide between the lava flow and da ube one, but they told me to go for da ube one if I love ube (and I do)! Naturally flavored, no need to worry about stained teeth here. The shave ice was perfect and hit the spot. They were also really beautiful--works of art! Good amount of seating available inside, but we got cold and it got really crowded shortly after we arrived, so we moved to a bench outside. Merchandise is also available for purchase and a clean restroom is available for customers only. We really enjoyed our visit here!

Extremely tasty, light and fresh! Even after burgers this went down easy! The service was friendly, and shop has a convenient location.

Let me tell you this is the best shaved ice in Kauai! Every ingredient is natural, friendly and price is pretty good compared to how much you get! We had to stop by one last time before heading back home. Everyone there is so friendly and space is good for big family also. Sitting on the outside also. This spot is must try once or twice or why not have it everyday! Definitely going back when we visit again!

This place is stupid good. We liked everything, but the real passion fruit and the ube option were stellar, among the best frozen treats I've ever had in my life. Don't miss it! I wish I'd skipped lunch so I had room to finish the masterpiece. The pina colada was a little on the tart side for me; the others are more balanced, so just go with your preference. Everything was airy, light, and luscious. I can't wait to go back.

Absolutely the best shaved ice we had on Kauai! The ube shaved ice was so amazingly creamy and delicious! They even offered to top the syrups up while we were enjoying the shaved ice! Highly recommended!

The Açaí bowl was delicious and big portions. The service was good, patient and friendly. Nice environment with lots of space to sit.

Really good shave ice here. Came here because it was highly recommended and they use natural syrups. Had the lava flow with vanilla ice cream. The ice was not as fine as I was expecting, but it was still delicious. Some of the tables were kind of dirty and sticky, but overall, it's a very neat and welcoming environment. Staff was friendly. They sell some T-shirts with their logo if you are so inclined. With all of the very positive reviews, don't hesitate to give them a try. I would most definitely come back.

So far our favorite shaved ice place on Kauai, we came twice (and more if we can) Lilikoi Shaved Ice (Passionfruit) : this one has really good texture shaved ice due to milky shavings! Next time we would ask for more Lilikoi syrup So good we came again. Got Da Mango one, with Haupia (coconut cream) foam - our favorite so far!

This place is outstanding the service is fast and shaved ice is fantastic. One of the best I've ever had. Super flavorful and delicious!

Shaved ice was a must on our list. My son chose the PINA COLADA: Pineapple Juice, Coconut Milk, Roasted Coconut Flakes. Mom had DA UBE ONE: Ube & Coconut MIlk, Ube Foam, Roasted Coconut Flakes, I also ordered the same but added mochi as extra topping. Sis got the OG RAINBOW $8: *made with artificial flavors Red (strawberry), Blue (Vanilla), Yellow (banana), Snowcap, mochi. Service was perfunctory. There were tables and benches to sit and enjoy your order. Restroom was gender neutral and needed lots of care. Parking was free.

Had 2 shave ice placed marked to check out on Kauai and this was the first one tried. Unfortunately, this was not good at all... Got the lava flow and everything just tasted generic, not worth it in my book. Clean shop and convenient for the east side near hotel we stayed at, but... Ended up discovering the fantastic shave ice down in Koloa after being disappointed here. That one was worth the drive down to get. Was so sad we only got to get that one twice before end of trip. Come here if want convenience, make the drive down to Koloa for the memorable and best.

This rating is for Love Potion No. 9, as it's the only flavor I chose. DO NOT GET THIS! It has zero flavor for the ice, the strawberries are so frozen you can't even taste them and the syrup was so minimal, it couldn't fix it. The first one I got had spoiled condensed milk so they replaced it for me, but the replacement still was bland and blah. I tried several shaved ice spots in Kaua'i and this was the worst one. I would also say service is pretty brusque and rude so that is another point against this, and the line was long and slow and they make you order by machine if they get too busy to take your order so just use the machine instead of waiting in line. Try Hee Fat's General Store down the street or really any other spot instead.

I heard this was still the best shave ice on the island, and being back after 5 years, I have to say... it still is!! The flavors are so natural and not artificial. Even though it was raining, it was still very refreshing and much needed. When we were here 5 years ago they were located in a food truck but now they're in a shop and I'm so happy to see they're still doing amazing!!

Wow what an outstanding last minute find! We came here because we were near the Safeway and found this place after a quick Google search. Based on the reviews we decided to try Da Ube One. This is the best shaved ice we've ever had. The shaved ice had the texture of snow, which I enjoyed. The ube flavor was the perfect balance of sweet and creamy. The service was quick. The ambiance was ok; quite full every time we visited. We also tried the deluxe açaí bowl which was refreshing and tasty. Highly recommend coming here.

100% absolute MUST when on Kauai! How shave ice should be, shaved not snow coned. The flavors you order are the flavors you will taste as if fresh from the fruit itself and the texture is so smooth. The whipped cream on the lava flow is all coconut and the perfect topping on any flavor. Other optional toppings are mochi, ice cream, coconut shavings and more. Busy spot and opens kind of late for a high tourist location but worth the noon open wait. Pretty cool merch wall too!

Food: we got 2 flavors of the shave ice. The signature one with pineapple ice and coconut foam, and the other as a full ube. Personally I like the refreshing and light flavor of pineapple but not a big fan of the coconut foam. The Ube one with coconut flakes is pretty well balanced. Service: be prepared to que and wait a bit! Ambiance: nice and cozy

The best shave* ice I had in Hawaii. I'm home and I'm craving one. Gluten free! Yummy. The ice seems like an illusion because it's fluffy !!!! The staff is so sweet and patient. You must TRY

Located in the plaza right next to Subway and ABC store. What strikes as most unique for their shave ice is the haupia foam and Ube foam they have available to top. My favorite is Da Ube One. Toasted coconut flakes and we subbed and put Haupia foam on top. It was delicious. The foam gives the creaminess and cuts through to complement the Ube flavor with coconut. There's only one size offered. It's nice that the storefront has tables inside. You can eat your shave ice comfortably in AC without working that you're not sweating your butt off or the ice melting rapidly. Staff are nice and quick. Overall this is one of the favorites for me on Kauai compared to some of the other places on the island.

Very unique and island inspired shave ice flavors. Tempted to go back every day to try all the flavors. Service was great with a relaxing ambiance.

This was the only shave ice we had in Hawaii on this trip, but I don't think any other place would have beat this out. We came here after a day of kayaking and hiking at the Wailua Falls, it was a much-needed refreshing treat. The store was very clean, decent service, and a simple, easy to read menu. I got the Ube shave ice and my husband got the lava flow - both were so aesthetically pleasing and tasty. It reminded me of Korean Bingsu and it is definitely a must-try in Kauai!

Right before leaving Kaua'i, we thought it'd be nice to try one more shave ice place. This one was a bit different from others that we tried. First, they have a premade menu in that flavors are already curated into a shave ice flavor profile. This differs from many other spots that just list each individual flavor in which the customer could combine it themselves. That being said, even after selecting your shave ice from the menu, you then can put add-ons. We got the Da Mango One w/haupia Foam and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was delicious. The haupia (coconut pudding) definitely complemented the mango flavor well. The vanilla ice cream added a nice creaminess to the sweet flavor of the mango. It was definitely refreshingly delicious!

best in town tried 3 places this week, this was by far the best. their shaved ice is finer with a milk infusion - quite akin to korean sulbing if you've had it. it was so refreshing after a day of hiking. the love potion #9 was well flavored and not too sweet. the ube was great too, but had a stronger flavor.

I was kinda disappointed. After having the best shave Ice ever on the Big Island in Hilo and was hesitant to try Shave Ice again only after a few days. Unfortunately this did not compare. The ice crystals seemed to big and the flavours did not pop. It tasted too watery and not fruity enough. If I had not tried the ice in Hilo I would still say this tasted like the average shave I've you find anywhere in Hawaii but much better then any place that uses high fructose syrups. I'm very biased after tasting what I tasted in Hilo so take this review with a grain of salt.

Pretty tasty! Loved the freshness of my fruit syrups! Lots of fun choices. Not the friendliest staff, I wish young adults were being taught to say hello and thank customers nowadays. This is a problem all over tho but I did experience here as well.

Located next to the Safeway, this is the best shave ice in Hawaii! Featuring gourmet flavors, such as the lava flow and triple coconut. I highly recommend their Ube shave ice. Ube cream syrup, which tastes like okinawan sweet potato, (which is not too sweet). Topped with Ube cream and dried coconut flakes. This is by far the best shave ice that I have had!

I ordered 3 different shave ice to share among my friends: dragons blood, triple coconut and da Ube one. I forgot to add haupia foam for an extra $1 after taking a few spoonfuls but the kind gentleman said to bring them back and he will just top them up. That was nice. I was fine with just having it on the side. Taste wise we enjoyed all 3 flavors. The Ube had a good amount of Ube flavoring. The roasted coconut flakes added a nice texture to each bite. The shave ice was light and fluffy. They were not too sweet which we liked.

Shave ice is good. The kids loved it. But nothing spectacular. The only beef I have is that the tables were not clean. There were 4 staff working and it wasn't busy so I was wondering why at least one of them was not wiping the tables. I guess it was a self-cleaning rule? Because I noticed other customers using a spray bottle and rag to clean their tables AFTER we sat down with our shave ice and my 2 year old was licking left-overs from the table. There are other places to get better shave ice. This place gets a lot of hype but it's just overrated in my opinion.

One of the best shave ice I've had in Hawaii! I ordered the triple coconut and it did not disappoint. It was so delicious. The service was excellent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again in the future.

We went here one night because we had heard it was voted the best. We definitely preferred another shaved ice place over this one but if they were to get macadamia nut ice cream with their taro shaved ice it would 100% be the best in our books. Unfortunately they only have vanilla ice cream.

A little hole in the wall establishment serving a truly delicious treat. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We visited several times during our stay. I can see why they are rated so highly!

I had the lilikoi shave ice and it was so creamy and delicious. There was nice air conditioning and a few places to sit inside.

It is a very clean place. The team members are very friendly and they office many kinds of shave ice. We ordered Lava Flow. It was so refreshing and delicious.

Still the best shave ice I can ever recall having. The location moved to a brick and mortar location at a shopping center (next to Starbucks) and there's a Safeway in the complex. Easy to find parking right out front. Quick and friendly service. And still very consistent. Don't skip this place. I got the same thing as years ago and I was doing my happy dance in the car. So much so, I fell asleep in contentment on our way to Wailua Falls (husband was driving).

This is THE shave ice spot. I was kind of wary because you can't pick the flavors/syrup yourself (preset menu) but oh my lanta, when the ice AND syrup are both amazing and authentic, you know you hit the spot. We came here twice in one day! Once for lunch and once for dessert after dinner. We tried the strawberry mango and the strawberry coconut. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the strawberry mango. It is enough to share with 2 people. It's huge! Prices did increase from previous reviews I read. It's not $8-$8.50/bowl. There's lots of seating areas inside and benches outside. It does get a bit busy but they make your shave ice quick! And if you want more syrup, they will give it to you, just ask....they encourage it. But yes, the ice is soft. The flavors are natural and taste it too! Everything about this place is great. I saw the previous menu options so I was sad I couldn't taste the Strawberry Guava. I've heard other popular flavors are the Lilikoi Cream and Lava Flow so if you need other recommendations, those are great flavors too. But you honestly can't go wrong with any, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

wow, there's a line out the door of place for a reason! Came here for a refresher and amazed by all the different selections/combos for shave ice. i ordered the mango ice which was creamy and light, be sure to get a shirt, sticker since you will remember this place when you get home!

I saw many Shaved ice spots in the area, but I knew that I wanted to come to Wailua. The line was long and they were giving every customer as much time as they needed without pushing them to order fast or rush them in any way. I really loved seeing the staff interacting with kids and letting them make up their mind , which also resulted in us taking more than 30 minutes to get to the front of the line. In the time, I waited, I mentally changed my order at least five times and finally ordered mango with macadamia ice cream. Needless to say it was a delecious treat . I had never had Hawaiian shaved ice before so there is no benchmark for me to compare it to but I was definitely intrigued by the texture and the flavors. There are a few communal tables, and most people were welcoming and happily shared them .One amazing thing that I found was that they have another location right here in Portland and that makes my heart happy because I do look forward to trying them as well.

After trying Wailua Shave Ice in Portland, OR, I made sure to get it again! But this time, in Kaua'i! It is seriously one of the best shave ice I've had in Portland and in Kaua'i! They're located in a nice shopping plaza. There is indoor seating. Wailua Shave Ice isn't a place where you mix and match flavors. There is a set menu but trust me, every combo is delicious! It'll make you want to come back the next day(s) to try more! So far, I've had their Lilikoi Dream (it was a special) and the Triple Coconut. Both lived up to their names, the flavors and to my expectations! The ice was soft and flavored so well. The toppings add a nice texture to each shave ice. So if there's a shave ice spot you want to try, I suggest saving this spot when in Kaua'i or Portland!

Quick service , no tables because they are so busy. But this was so refreshing and yummy would definitely love to come back and try other flavors. Family friendly and plenty of parking

A homerun Hawaiian shaved ice spot in Kauai! They have more of a unique take with the foam top, and I'm all for it Got the specialty ube shaved ice, perfectly light and fluffy shaved ice, not too sweet, OH SO refreshing. Even the hubby who hates coconut didn't mind the toasted coconut topping, it all worked well Coming back next time I return to Kauai to try more of their flavors!
