"So there's nothing particularly splashy about Waimea Plantation, but that's precisely the point. The beach isn't particularly spectacular either, but that's no bother, either. These sprawling cottages, which occupy the grounds of a former sugar plantation, are ramshackle and adorable, and exactly what belongs at the beach. They're also perfect for a family, as they come equipped with kitchens and all that jazz—all the better for enjoying the fresh tuna sashimi from the nearby Japanese grocery store, Ishihara (seriously, it's insane). There's incredible surf to swim in to the west of the cottages in the naval base, and it's close to the bigger resorts on Poipu. The North Side and Princeville are a bit of a drive, but it's worth your while to hike along the Western side of Kauai: it's one of the more spectacular views in the world."

This is the most special place and now our favorite place to stay on the island! Simply amazing. The bedrooms were gorgeous. We slept with the windows open to hear the waves crash on the shore. The furniture is authentic, sturdy and very well maintained. Handmade cushion covers and pillow cases were beautiful!! The grounds are stunning, quiet, and so peaceful. The pool is so great for kids. Can’t say enough positive things about this gem!!!

Great location and ocean front cottages were wonderful. It is indeed rustic and simple - not the Four Seasons, but we liked that. BUT when you see the listed price add an ADDITIONAL 25% to that for 3 different taxes and a ridiculous $35 daily resort fee. Also remember you will need to bring everything food related with you, and by that I mean salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, mustard, ketchup, coffee, etc. All you get is basic kitchen utensils and items.

Waimea Plantation Cottages was the perfect setting for our wedding! The beautiful grounds created a gorgeous and relaxed atmosphere, exactly what we were hoping for. While communication was a bit laid-back, the staff was always accommodating and professional. The manager's house (which we stayed in as part of the venue booking) was spacious and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen that even allowed us to make our wedding cake! We couldn't have asked for a more picturesque venue.

We loved our stay here. Beautiful grounds and lovely little cottages. A bit pricey but worth it. It was nice to feel like you had your own space. Plus, the area is less busy; far less touristy part of the island. The living room furniture wasn’t the greatest-the couch on our porch was more comfortable than the one indoors. There were a few supplies that would have been helpful in the kitchen-no mixing bowl-but all the other essentials were there. No salt/pepper/oil/etc. you have to get all of that yourself at the grocery store. The beds were comfortable and there is air conditioning. Everything was very clean.

Located on the less populated western side of the island, the Waimea Plantation Cottages was a wonderful getaway. We had a 2 bedroom ocean front cottage that was less than 50 yards from the beach. Our cottage was isolated from other surrounding cottages. The cottages themselves are still a bit 'rustic,' but have all the amenities you would need. The restaurant and coffee truck on site were both great and anyone staying here must stop at JoJo's shave Ice for the best shave ice on the island! We would highly recommend staying here!

This is absolutely one of the most difficult reviews to write. There are so many pros and cons to this place and staying here is really about how you like to vacation and does the quiet, peaceful out weigh the condition of the interior of the cottages. The pros - absolutely gorgeous grounds and property! There are so many words to describe the area, quiet, calming, peaceful, relaxing. It is a place that allows self reflection. A place to just leave the stress behind. I wished I had a yoga mat with me as there are so many beautiful places to practice. The cottage exteriors were so cute and inviting. Many places to be outside and enjoy nature, from the lanai to the Adirondack chairs that give the best views for sunset. The cons - cottage interiors and furnishing need updating. They cover basic needs and interiors were clean. Just expect minimal accommodations and you will be okay. I was completely underwhelmed and frustrated in the beginning of our stay, but the place grew on me over time. There was lots of driving to other places, we didn’t mind that at all, but others that may not be ideal. Pool is not heated and there is not a spa. We were told we could have a cleaning mid stay and needed 24 hour notice, but when requested 24 hours in advance, the schedule was full. I recommend scheduling your cleaning day at check in. Exterior screen door and windows needed cleaning.

For ten years I ran a B&B. For this reason, and by my personality I am critical of travel accommodations. This place is Great!!! We stayed in cottage 30. The plantation cottages are historic and quiet, and charming. Our cottage was like a summer cottage from the 50's or 60's in the best way. Not fancy but comfortable and quiet. It is relaxing and walkable to Waimea where there are a few restaurants. Kauai is chicken island, so you hear chickens off somewhere a lot. It is amusing. The restaurant -The Chicken Barrel is on-site as is a cafe food truck in the morning. staff is friendly. You can relax at the pool, walk the beach or grounds, drive to Waimea Canyon Park for a hike or enjoy the vistas. Anyway, the Plantation cottages are well done and enhance the stay for anyone wishing to hang loose in Kauai.

It's a great place but unfortunately we were assigned to cottage number 69 which is ocean front right next to the pool. So we had to listen to pool noise and music and have people walk right by our cottage. Not what we wanted or expected. You get charged the same rate as the other very nice and private ocean front cottage. So beware. You may end up paying a lot for an undesirable cottage.
