"Waliya Kitchen & Cafe in Richardson is not your average Ethiopian restaurant. It shares its space with a gas station off Spring Valley Road and has gained a reputation for serving some of the best African food in town. The exterior is unassuming, but inside, the natural light creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Co-owner Fenta Dagnew is known for her rapport with customers and diverse clientele. The cafe roasts and grinds its Ethiopian coffee, offering a surprisingly sweet black coffee. Breakfast includes dulet made with beef, liver, kidney, and tripe, while vegan and vegetarian options like the veggie combo are popular. Waliya offers freshly made dishes from local produce, such as kitfo, smoothies, and its most-ordered shiro. The menu also includes tibs and doro wat, catering to various tastes. Opened in August, it’s become a community favorite for its homestyle meals and Ethiopian hospitality. Located at 236 E Spring Valley Rd, Richardson, it operates Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m." - Charity Chukwu

Waliya Kitchen is located inside the tiger mart convenience store. The owner is the sweets person ever and excited to share her food and culture with everyone. When we arrived she immediately greeted us and sat us down. She gave recommendations from the menu. This is not a fast food restaurant and is ran by one person so you will wait a little bit for your food. I got the veggie combo and juicy tibs which were both delicious. The portions are big and perfect for sharing. I also had the kishir tea to end my meal. I will definitely be coming back to try more food!

This place is really special. I could echo other comments about how well-spiced the food is, or how warmly the owner Rahel treats her customers, but it wouldn’t do this place full justice. Stop by and try it yourself! And order the tibs a little extra spicy 🌶

They opened just 6 months ago but their hospitality and food felt like they’ve been experts at this forever! The owner, Fanta, is such a wonderful and sweet lady who loves getting to know her customers and making it feel like visiting someone’s home. The Ethiopian food is the best I’ve ever had and she wasn’t kidding when she said she makes it exactly as it would be in Ethiopia. The spices and ingredients are so well-prepared and juicy, prepare to FEAST. I got the Beef Tibs, Doro Wat (the eggs especially were SO good!), and the Pasta. Healthy and oh so tasty, recommended to anyone wanting to try something new and good!

Waliya’s food is D-I-V-I-N-E! The flavors are exquisite! It was a complete culinary experience.*Chef’s Kiss* The presentation is quite beautiful, the menu offers several Ethiopian favorites, so you’re sure to find something you like. If you’re nervous about eating from a convenience store, don’t be! Both Waliya’s area and the store are extremely clean and very well-appointed. You’ll completely forget that you’re inside of a convenience store. The owner of the Tiger Mart takes great pride in his establishment which is very apparent. Also, Tiger is also a nice place to stop for gas and snacks and the gas prices are good. Prepare to buy gas and food when you come, because the gas prices are some of the lowest I’ve seen. I wish I had waited to buy gas here vs. gassing up elsewhere. I would have saved about .10/gallon. I had the best kitfo, gomen, and oven-fresh ayib and I will gladly make the drive again SOON for the warm atmosphere and freshly-made food. (Sorry I didn’t take pics of my food. I ate it too fast!) This isn’t fast food, so don’t come here expecting to get your food in two minutes. Everything is made with love and made to order. It’s worth the drive and the reasonable wait. This place is a gem! #Tiger #Waliya ❤️

Fresh, nutritious food made with passion in sharing ethiopian cuisine! Rahel and her family was so friendly when I visited and even invited me to join them for coffee. I had the veggie combo; the portion was generous, and I enjoyed all the different ingredients. I especially love love love the tomatoe salad! :)

This restaurant is quite a hidden gem, literally. It's tucked away inside a gas station convenience store and only has a few tables. However, the food and hospitality was outstanding. The lady that runs this restaurant, Rahel, is very warm and friendly. We ordered the veggie combo, awaze tibs with lamb, and tea. It was all pretty delicious and I would recommend giving this place a try if you want some authentic Ethiopian food.
