"Gunmetal clouds unleashed lightning on distant silos. “Homemade Donuts,” “Get a Rootbeer,” “Free Ice Water,” “Cowboy Up”: The prairie was punctuated with hand-painted signage for Wall Drug, that infamous attraction cobbled together from an original 1931 pharmacy and a subsequent cafeteria, chapel, Westernwear store, and backyard theme park. We were headed to the town of Wall, home of Wall Drug but also the Wounded Knee museum..."

"Among roadside attractions, Wall Drug is an icon: the granddaddy of tourist traps. South of the Border, The Thing?, the kitschy cosmopolis that sprouted around Niagara Falls: all of them owe a debt to Wall Drug. While the designation of “tourist trap” is certainly pejorative, the 80+-year-old Wall Drug wears the title proudly. Wall Drug started simply enough when Ted Hustead purchased the South Dakota town of Wall’s drugstore in 1931. But it was Ted’s wife Dorothy who hit upon the idea that changed not just the drugstore, but the entire 231-person town of Wall. The idea: ice water. Wall had always been a small outpost in the middle of nowhere, but by the time Wall Drug opened the town had just become somewhere – or near somewhere at least. Sixty miles west of Wall, Mount Rushmore had just opened. So in an attempt to attract business, Dorothy Hustead put up a sign advertising free ice water to parched tourists on their way to the attraction. It was a big hit. From then on Wall Drug grew under its own strange power, adding a bizarre assortment of fiberglass animals, including the iconic Wall Drug jackalope, giant dinosaurs, and more tchotchkes then you can shake a stick at, including an array of taxidermied jackalopes. (It is unclear when or why jackalopes attained such iconic status for Wall Drug). Wall Drug now has billboards some 500 hundred miles away–and many thousands of miles further, if you count those put up by fans–announcing the impending tourist trap all the way in Minnesota to the East and Billings, Montana to the West. If you are a honeymooner, veteran, priest, hunter, or truck driver, you can also get free coffee and donuts. They still give out ice water too. Some 20,000 cups of it a day." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
This is definitely more than a drug store as it has a ton of small-town USA history behind it. It's very interesting how it's set up with many stores intertwined and rolling into each other. If you were looking for a souvenir, this is the place. Stop and have lunch here as well. The cherry pie was delicious. It can get extremely crowded at times, especially when the tour busses stop, so if you have to wait in line for food, I can assure you it does move very quickly, so just wait. The 5-cent coffee area is very neat as you don't see that anywhere anymore. This is a perfect stop after spending a few hours at the Badlands to recharge and recover. The multiple billboards on the roads in either direction make it hard to not be a little bit intrigued about this place.

Google
Ok, this is the absolute most overrated lame little gift shop on the face of this planet! Unless automated fortune tellers and weird refrigerator magnets are your forte, DON’T GO!!!! Actually, even if they are don’t go. Not a cool place at all, and here it was advertised for like 300 miles on Interstate 90. Everything was excessively overpriced…all except those little mugs of what I would hardly dare to call coffee for 5c. Walked away wondering why I’d stopped….

Google
I'm a truck driver and have driven past Wall several times. Broad area realizing they had oversized parking, I decided to stop. It's one of the main tourists stops along I-90 in South Dakota. It's essentially a mega gift shop. Many different sections, each with its own unique theme. It also has an outdoor splash pad (seasonal) and cafe. Yes, the cafe still sells coffee for 5 cents.

Google
This is an interesting place. I’m not sure what to even think about it. There are tons of various types of shops crammed into one spot, everything from western apparel to dollar store type things. They offer doughnuts that are pretty good right next to wine and a beef hotplate. I was confused where to buy a ticket and where to stand in line so I didn’t eat there. Their back story is pretty cool but it is overwhelming between the amount of people that visit to what they offer inside. It is a cool place to see but be prepared there are tons of people and tons to see inside of here. It’s worth it, I found some cool stuff inside but like I said it is an overwhelming experience for how because g the building is.

Google
This is quite the experience. The perfect place for any souvenir you can think of. Have fun walking through and looking at it all. Prices weren't too bad either. :) There is a lot of history too and signs around to learn information. The area out the back is fun with a little water play area, robotic dinosaur, things to climb on and get pictures taken and have some fun. You could easily spend an hour or 2 wandering around. Good thing there are toilets too! Have fun!

Google
This has to be the most highly advertised place in the country; signs on I-90 cover the landscape all the way across the state. It's the main business in town and definitely caters to tourists. Get about anything you need between 0800-1700 hours if you don't mind the price. Food in the cafe is basic, but good. Donuts are great. For a little more money still, try the other bars/restaurants in town and get better quality meals.

Marie Scott

Google
Always a fun experience! But is even better after some of the summer tourists are lesser. The store cashiers are friendly and helpful. Great selection of cowboy/cowgirl boots and the lady in the boot store goes above and beyond to help you find the perfect boots for you. Very happy with mine!

Google
i saw the sign on the highway and i was not sure what wal drug was so i stopped there on the way back to rapid city. there are lots of things to shop!!! food is also good. the staff in every department are very nice and helpful. there are also many spots for you to take pictures. restrooms are nice and clean.

Yelp
Worth a visit if you're in the area. I've been hearing about this place my whole life, so we couldn't pass up a chance to stop by on our way out of The Badlands. It was fun to walk through the small, mall-sized souvenir shop. And yes, I am the proud owner of a "Wall Drug" tee shirt. Their iced doughnut was great and their nickel cup of coffee was worth every penny. However, fair warning, refills aren't free!

Felita M.

Yelp
Was this on a bus tour and our group stopped here for lunch. Long lines when we arrived. Plenty of seating. Kind of a mad house. Food was decent. Everyone raved about the (cake) donuts. They actually were good. Lots of souvenirs to peruse. In all price points.

Krys G.

Yelp
We followed the billboard signs for 200 miles. How could we not stop. We got our 5 cent coffee and freshly made donuts. Coffee was not very good. Ice water was no better. There were plenty of shops with interesting souvenirs. There were really good picture ops for kids of all ages. I'm happy we stopped and explored this tourist trap. I would recommend stopping just for the crazy experience.

Wen C.

Yelp
Yes, this is a tourist trap. Yes, you can see billboards advertising for this place stretching for hundreds of miles away. And yes, it's kitschy. But it's pretty unique and conveniently located next to Badlands National Park, so I would definitely stop by to at least try their free ice cold water! You would be part of history, as the drug store drew weary travelers to enjoy a refreshing break as there was way fewer amenities back then. When you enter and wander around, you might be confused by the huge number of shops, but they're not in competition with each other; rather they're all owned by Wall Drug. It makes the place feel like a bustling market. The gem of this place is the cafeteria though, with its free ice water an 5 cent coffee (dine in only, if you want to make it portable you have to pay extra). I can attest that the ice water tastes like, well, ice water. I didn't try the coffee. It was pretty full so I guess the food is good!

Jen W.

Yelp
Cute town. Nice touristy stop. Prices seem high. I bought some cold medicine and although I am unfamiliar with SD prices, from my experience it was a very inflated cost. I did pick up some very inexpensive post cards and a couple of small gift items. There are multiple shops within the one building so wandering is your best options. Food is ordered at a counter and a number assigned on your reciept. Listen for your number to be called over the loud speaker, pick up your food and then select your seat in one of the dining rooms. Each dining room is decorated differently, all with a 'wild west' type theme. One highlighted Native Americans of the past while another highlighted the different cattle brands ranchers used for example. We ordered egg sandwiches. They come on grilled bread with two eggs and to be honest aren't very good. Too greasy. No flavor. Cheese is the orange 'cheese food' type. The five cent coffee is about 6oz and tastes like five cent coffee. All the staff were very pleasant. Walking into the 'mall' area is walking into an entertaining wild west parody. It's a fun tourist stop. Water is indeed still free at the soda machine in the dining room. Happy trails.

Yelp
We were driving along I-90 East between Custer, South Dakota and Badlands National Park (09.27.2024). We started to notice, and to anticipate, advertising signs for Wall Drug Store in Wall SD every few miles. The first one advertised that they have ice cream. The next, 5-cent coffee. Then, western wear. Free ice water. Etc. So, I pulled up their website on my phone, and found that they're a 76,000 square foot Western-themed attraction with shopping, restaurants, an art gallery, and kids-oriented activities (TrainStation water show, photo with T-Rex, ride on a jackalope). During peak season, they can get up 20 thousand visitors per day. We decided to check it out, and to grab some dinner while there. To our surprise, the 530-seat restaurant (and most everything else) closes at 6 pm (or earlier), so we went to the restaurant first. Another family joined us in line to order their dinners but, at that hour, most of the other customers were only ordering doughnuts. My husband ordered a Buffalo Burger with fries ($16.68), which featured a 1/3 lb. burger on a toasted bun, with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and pickle. There was a table with ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc. (Burger by itself was $11.99). Rating: 3/5. The burger was quite dry and under-seasoned. I ordered an all-beef hot dog, which was served on a bun with three pickle slices. ($6.69). (Rating: 4/5). We both agreed that I made the better choice as the hot dog was nicely grilled on the outside but still juicy on the inside. It would've been nice to have some onions to go with it. We also felt that our dinner was over-priced, especially as it was essentially fast food -- ordered/picked up at the counter without table service. We paid about $30, even before tip, for just a burger, hot dog, and one French fries. Ambiance. There are multiple rooms with a lot of tables in each, remembering that they can seat 530. As we were approaching the closing time of 6 pm, there were only about six of us left in our section. Soon after, staff started to close up for the day, sweeping the floor, wiping down tables, while also carrying on a conversation with each other across tables. This was disruptive for enjoying our dinner. On the positive side, the restaurant also serves as a gallery, with more than 300 original oil paintings and illustrations with Western themes, which is reportedly the largest such private collection in the US. After dinner, we browsed through a few shops, but many were already closed or closing.

Yelp
EGREGIOUSLY OVERPRICED!!!!!!! SO MANY BETTER PLACES IN WALL, SD (recommendations below) (*this is a review of the CAFE, not the shopping areas) I want to preface by saying we did not stop here by choice. Driving through on our way out East on a Sunday morning really limits your options, and literally nothing else was open in Wall, or for several miles near. NINETEEN DOLLARS ($19.11) was the cost for a BREAKFAST SANDWICH AND A SIDE OF HASH BROWNS. A breakfast sandwich with just egg and cheese was $8 or $9, add ONE (1) piece of meat which alone costs over FIVE DOLLARS. What??? The only reasonally priced thing was their homemade donut at $2 something and it was good, but who survives off of donuts? RECOMMENDATIONS: - We had lunch the day before in Wall at "Wakin' Bacon" - SO, so, so good, clean and healthy ingredients for HALF the cost. Super cute food truck, their hours are on their Facebook page and they serve breakfast and lunch - "Stompin' Grounds" in Wall has super good and cheap breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Like I said, we did not actively choose or want to go to Wall Drug because we read the reviews. Literally no choice to go and pay such egregious prices for the most basic of things These prices are justified in NYC, but c'mon, this is literally small town South Dakota. The food just isn't that good for the price ‍

Yelp
Wow. I think Wall Drug has the most iconic marketing strategy: billboards and small roadside signs all along the interstate and state roads from one border to the next. Five cent coffee? well, yes! world famous? maybe not. Touristy? Hell yes. I make infrequent stops to Wall Drug, and when I do stop, it's not because I want to, but after miles of interstate driving, you have that not-subliminal Wall Drug marketing seep into your brain and your car just starts detouring you to it. I stop for the donuts. Yes. Donuts. Plain or frosted. It's not really a drug store, but a block long set of shops connected inside and selling all types of kitschy and touristy gadgets and dust collectors and even some useful, fun things. Wall Drug also has a restaurant of sorts where you go through a line, order, and then they call your number and you pick it up at the counter. It isn't cheap and it is always busy. The kitchen does a good job of keeping the food coming out and the cashiers have that blasé "yes, honey. you aren't going to phase me, so just order and move along" attitude. On this visit, I tried the buffalo burger and while I waited, snacked on a donut. Honestly, I could have dumped the burger. There might have been a micro-spec of buffalo meat held in with lots of filler. It wasn't that good. The onion rings, however, were beyond tasty. Note to self: next time order donuts and onion rings. Healthy eating be damned. The layout of Wall Drug is one that keeps you captive. The shops have openings into the next section but try to find an exit to get out of this place and you'll understand the phrase rat-in-a-cage. Despite all of that, it's a fun place to spend time. Aside from the food, the prices are reasonable and my interactions with the employees have all been positive.

Gabriel S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to stop on the way out to the Black hills and on the way back. Always fun to go with your kids to the big backyard and see the T-Rex. You try one of their specialty donuts and enjoy the five cent coffee along with it in the dining room. Check out all of the art around food areas as well as the ceilings which have all of the local cattle brandings on wood boards all around the top. They have an amazing camping store with all kinds of inexpensive knives that will drive kids crazy. Good deals around on Black hills Gold rings and jewelry. Spend some time and see all the fun things to do here.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
I loved my visit to Wall Drug! The 5 cent coffee tasted pretty good ( I added creamer and had several cups). It was totally fine to take the coffee around while browsing in the various shops and viewing the attractions. I had so much fun exploring and looking for souvenirs to purchase. The employees were so friendly. But the best part were the homemade donuts! I tried the ones with maple frosting and chocolate frosting. Both were great but the maple was AMAZING!

Albert T.

Yelp
This review is specifically about the donuts at Wall Drug. I originally visited this tourist trap a couple of years ago and after biting into my first Wall Drug donut I knew I had to revisit. Plain Donut ($2.29), Frosted Donuts ($2.59 each) - On this last visit, we ended up getting four total donuts, one of each type: Plain, Maple Frosted, Chocolate Frosted, and Vanilla Frosted. I found the vanilla to be the sweetest which kind of overpowered the vanilla flavor. The maple doesn't keep well at all. After only being in the bag for 30 minutes, the frosting completely stuck onto the wax paper and basically made this into a plain donut. The frosting essentially melded into the paper and it was impossible to remove. The chocolate was the best of the bunch - chocolatey, not too sweet, and the entire donut managed to stay intact in the package. To be honest, though, the frosting is kind of secondary to the donut itself, which is superb. This is the only donut shop I've been to where the donuts actually have a thin fried external layer that exhibits a very nice light crisp, adding a good textural contrast to the fluffy interior. The cake donut interior is moist, fluffy, and just fantastic. Honestly, it's one of the best cake donuts you can find. Wall stuff is definitely a tourist trap but the donuts here are legit. They also sell day old donuts in half dozen or dozens for half off. We actually left the maple donut for the next day and the exterior crust was still there. The only downside was the donut was a smudge drier. It was still pretty good, so I guess the day olds might be worth it?

Yelp
Wow! Wall Drug is an establishment that you have got to visit. We were so glad we checked that box on our trip out west. The restaurant seats a lot of hungry patrons and offers delicious food that is cooked with a quickness and quality. Don't let the crowds deter you. Pack your patience and you will get a decent meal. There are so many shops to explore. Wall Drug offers so much! You will find souvenirs fun items that make it worth the trip.

Andrew S.

Yelp
This was not the first visit to Wall Drug but the first time getting fresh donuts and the widely advertised free ice water seen when traveling the 90 freeway towards Rapid City. Yes, it is also true that you can get a cup of coffee for a nickel, this being also advertised on numerous billboard signs along the west direction towards Wyoming. A large pot sits at the cafe, and you place a nickel into a box slot and self-serve yourself the coffee. The donuts were freshly made, and the taste was very good, which surprised me. I was tempted to get a fresh baked slice of apple pie but didn't have room for this. I highly recommend everyone stop by this tourist attraction if in the area.

Stephen C.

Yelp
Wall Drugs IS the town of Wall SD. It seems to be the anchor of the town and doesn't let you down. Is have everything you could want within its walls from 5 cent cup of coffee, a pretty decent restaurant, homemade admits, plenty of trinket shops and some great art stores and legit western apparel stores, and even a chapel for the weary traveler and low down sinners seeking redemption. Around it is a town filled with things to do, sites to see, and stuff to accumulate. Several really great shops with fairly reasonable prices. Check out the restaurants and cafes. It really is more than a tourist trap kind of town. Wall gives you some really good history and value for its offerings. You can really spend a few days here. A great stop for kids and adults alike. Plenty of parking and some great motels from local to chain. All the signs advertising Wall as you travel on I-90 are worth heeding. Try out the town of Wall SD you won't be sorry.

Rick L.

Yelp
If you're traveling through South Dakota, stopping at Wall Drug is a must. Total tourist stop, but huge place. Kind of like a mini mall with small church, tons of food, gifts, candy etc. The restaurant inside has decent food and huge donuts! If you need a break from driving this is the place. Lots of kids stuff too.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Okay so I can see why some folks might not be super impressed with Wall Drug, afterall it is a roadside attraction at its core. That to me though, is where the magic lies because Wall Drug is the end all be all roadside attraction. The people that created Wall Drug clearly understood the assignment. First of all, there isn't a lot on the stretch of highway between Omaha, NE and Wall, SD. So, once you enter that stretch of highway you'll begin to see signs for Wall, and I have to lend it to their marketing team as the billboards are nothing short of delightful. In case you are wondering, we counted 100 (we kept a tally) this time as we approached. Which, honestly, is worth the four stars in and of itself. What dedication. Wall Drug opened its doors about two generations ago offering free water and 5c coffee to folks stopping to gaze at the Badlands, and it just sort of grew from there. What was once a small town drugstore became the sprawling attraction it is today. When you pull into the town of Wall you'll quickly discover that Wall Drug what not only keeps this place afloat (along with the proximity to the Badlands), but it's also probably about 1/4 the square footage of the town. It's massive, sprawling, and includes a restaurant, ice cream parlor, souvenir shop, Zoltar machine, animatronic entertainment (think Goofy movie), and all kinds of surprises and photo ops. Is this a place you travel to just to see it? Probably not, but if you are driving by it's unique enough that I think it's well worth the stop. If you have kids they will be entranced by the animatronic dinosaur, if you're solo, you'll marvel at how unique and spectacularly kitsch the place is. This was my second visit, and my first time really walking through it as the first visit was a quick pit stop on much longer road trip. All in all I think if you come here with an open mind, and know it's a road side stop you'll be impressed, enjoy some laughs, and probably bring home some funny souvenirs. Only downside is that the food (IMO) is a bit expensive for what it is, but there are limited options in Wall so I get it to a certain degree. On a side note, with it being an election year I was pleasantly surprised at how the owners of this place kept politics out of their store. As I've traveled around America in recent years I've found that tons of souvenir shops carry tons of items pertaining to politics and I was honestly surprised and refreshed to find that I didn't see any of that here. It really made for a more welcoming and inclusive space. At any rate, if the 100 billboards leading up to Wall Drug, along with the free ice water, and zoltar machine don't entice you let this be your official recommendation to give it a go, it's free to walk around so why not enjoy it!

Paul V.

Yelp
I knew what Wall Drug was going to be. It's a roadside attraction for tourists to stop at on their way through the middle of the state and to vacation adventures. To their credit, the folks at Wall Drug did (and continue to do) a great job making it what it is. Their blast marketing as you travel through the state is impressive, the commitment to the vibe and theme is very well done. So, it's good at what it is. It's just not the vibe for me, aside from the obligatory stop to say I stopped and to get a souvenir for my collection. After only a quick walk through, I was already tired of people and ready to be on my way again.

Marie F.

Yelp
Vibe: Proof Advertising Works Parking: Free on Main Street and multiple other lots for campers, semi or trucks I started seeing signs for this place in WYOMING. It was lunch time so decided to drop in. The place is huge and you could easily spend several hours wondering from place to place within the green doors. I found the dinner and ordered: Buffalo Burger, onion rings and coke. Price was $23.87. Definitely not worth the price! Pretty sure it wasn't buffalo, but was Ok. If you're driving by on interstate 90, definitely worth stopping in. Just to let them know their advertising department is worth the money.

Seth M.

Yelp
Huge mall of a store with loads of different areas to shop! Fun gift shops, clothing, knives, camping, candy and foodcourt kept us wondering around for a while. Food was pricy and very meh but rest was great.

Kevin D.

Yelp
I had heard about Wall Drug for the first time in 1981 but never made it to this part of the state before now. Wall Drug is an experience everyone traveling through South Dakota should try. Sorry for "shoulding" on you but really...don't pass through town without visiting. There were cars from at least twenty different states in the parking lot. There is a lot to see and do there from great food to great souvenir shops. We had a really good breakfast and bought quite a bit of perfect souvenirs for our kids and grandkids.

Rachel W.

Yelp
The advertising for this place is unreal. I can't tell you how many billboards we saw on our road trip leading into Wall telling us all the things we could find at Wall Drug! It's a neat little place to pop into and check out just to say you did it. Take the opportunity to buy souvenirs for everyone back home, too. The burger was actually pretty good, as well as the onion rings, but the bummer was that the pie was cold. Check out the back building for some neat coffee options.

Donna Z.

Yelp
Driving east to west billboard for Wall Drug started from 350 miles out. It consists of a food cafe area, surrounded by two tourist shops where you can buy postcards, magnets and the works, as well as separate specialty tourist goods like a shop for jewelry, one for art, one for gemstones, etc. Honestly, it was just ok and not really worth your time unless you just want to be able to buy all your souvenirs in one place. I did buy a postcard, magnet, and a gem windchime as gifts. We also ate at the cafe and I got what it was well known for, the hot beef sandwich, which consists of roast beef on white bread doused in gravy, it was too much. Roast beef was very dry and it felt like the gravy was an attempt to cover up how dry it was. For the price, you can have better food. Service was good and friendly at all the shops and cafe.

Mitch W.

Yelp
Wall Drugstore is a roadside gem! It's part tourist trap, part historical landmark, and 100% entertaining. The atmosphere is vibrant, with tons of cool photo spots and unique stores to browse. Don't miss the fresh donuts and cheap coffee they're as iconic as the place itself. Whether you're looking for souvenirs, a quick meal, or just a break from the road, Wall Drug has it all.

Tiffiny H.

Yelp
I can't believe that this place has been going strong since the 1930s! Pretty amazing. I was really drawn in by the 1,000 billboards that I saw from Rapid City to Mitchell and back again. But, I stayed for the free ice water. I grabbed lunch after a long day of driving and got inside just shortly after it had started raining, so it was nice to be cozy inside. I had a cheeseburger with fries and a nice pickle spear! They've got everything you need... restrooms, food, sweet treats, souvenirs, and history! Don't forget to stop by.

Scott M.

Yelp
This is like a super-mega tourist attraction that's located in South Dakota near Badlands National Park and a variety of other attractions in the area. If you're in the area you pretty much have to stop here. They have everything. Whatever kind of souvenirs you can dream of, they have them. The place is huge. It's got a restaurant, clean restrooms, and is generally just a sight to behold. If you wanted to run in and out just to take a look at it, it would probably take you 20 mins just to walk through the entire complex. It's really insane. Easy, free parking just about a half block away, all the souvenirs you can dream of, a restaurant, clean restrooms, and an atmosphere that's some kind of cross between the old west and a carnival. Definitely stop and check it out.

Barbara S.

Yelp
After passing and reading the numerous road signs we had to make a stop at Wall Drug. We were really intrigued by the free ice water and assumed there was a history behind it. And there is! It took us a while to locate the freebie which was enjoyed after checking out the stores. We had a chocolate milk shake from the parlour. It was ok. Tasted similar to a frosty from Wendy's Burger Joint. We had dinner at Red Rock last night that we did a separate review. On our way back on the road we had to try the famous doughnuts. We picked up chocolate and vanilla ones. They were a solid four but would be a five if they were warm. Thank you Wall Drug for an enjoyable quirky establishment to explore and stretch our legs.

Al P.

Yelp
A must visit area in South Dakota, just to say you have been there! Lots of shops and different western wear. Highly recommend

Mary Lou S.

Yelp
Definitely a tourist trap, but it was a fun one! There are a number of different shops all under one roof. Everything from little souvenirs to cowboy boots. Not a whole lot of parking out front. Oh, there was even an actual little drug store inside. Lol.

Yelp
It's a fun oddity to stop at on your road trip. There food, art, a chapel, and entertainment at wall drug. Lots of wood carvings and the best part is it's mostly indoors or covered. Clean restrooms as well. Parking is a little odd but you can find a spot.

Yelp
Reasonable prices on touristic items. Got a couple neat posters and shirts for less than $50 total. The homemade fudge is also worth checking out, it's probably the best I've ever had. Don't forget there's a backyard and adjacent area. The campiness factor, of course, is dialed up to 10.

Yelp
Its a tourist trap, so expected I guess. Ordered a buffalo burger and fries for $17. If you buy the cheapest frozen walmart beef burger and microwave it, you'll probably end up with a better burger. Wife ordered the "Legendary" hot beef sandwich was on special for $11. It was legendary in how mediocre it was. Plain Donut was good. Fries were good. Bottom line: cheap crappy food at airport restaurant prices.

Yelp
The Gold Standard of Tourist Traps. Yeah, I know. I can hear your eyeballs rolling around in their orbital sockets. But Wall Drug is worth the side trip, just the way you'd go see Rock City, the world's biggest ball of twine, or any number of other roadside attractions. If for no other reason than to say you've been there. To me, the most impressive thing of all is how the owners of Wall Drug managed to turn this small farm town into a tourist destination. If you're a student of marketing, this should be inspirational at the very least.

Yelp
Heard about Wall Drug for forever and when we discovered we were only 30 miles away we made the trip. While it was different from what I envisioned it was worth the stop nonetheless. I wish we had more time to visit all the shops and areas. Did grab donuts for tomorrow's breakfast (they were really good). Would be fun to stop again when we had more time.

Yelp
Knowing what to expect ahead of time is key. This is a tourist attraction. We thankfully visited when it wasn't crowded and loved it. So much to look at and stretch your legs. A lot of photo ops and clean bathrooms. Tons of souvenirs if you're interested. We stopped in for the free water, 5 cent coffee and a donut. The donuts are made fresh onsite and are delicious. If you are a veteran you get a free coffee and donut. I got a to-go coffee and it was $1.19. The donuts are $2.59 each. A lot of interesting historical photos in the back which we enjoyed viewing. Definitely worth a stop!!!

Yelp
It's a tourist trap in the middle of nowhere. Fun if you enjoy shopping for Knick knacks, trinkets, and things nobody really needs. Everything is made cheap and sold at a premium price. Either way though, it's a pretty good time to just walk around if you have some free time on the road. The 5 cent coffee is well advertised, and definitely tastes like it's worth 5 cents.

Yelp
Great food old fashioned roast beef and gravy the donuts were amazing great shopping. If you can't find it you must have looked. Great hospitality.

Yelp
This is certainly not your ordinary drug store for sure. It's huge and sells all kinds of non drug store items, mostly touristy. Stores like South of the Border definitely come to mind when you enter this emporium style place. Aside from all kinds of touristy and gift stuff they have a huge restaurant with several big dining rooms all heavily decorated with old photos, variously themed paintings and Tiffany lamps. There is no shortage on atmosphere. Ordering is fast casual style - place your order at the counter, pick up when they call your number and seat anywhere you choose. Food is not cheap and quality average - there are a couple of other restaurants in town but looking at the reviews it doesn't seem like there is anything much better and Wall Drug definitely wins by efficiency and convenience if nothing else.

Yelp
I live in South Dakota, so we go to Wall Drug several times a year. Having said that, I find myself preferring it during the winter. In summer, it's overwhelmingly crowded as tourists flock in from every state. The inside of the building feels almost as warm as being outside, making it difficult to browse in the stores. The meal was mediocre, but the donuts tasted amazing, particularly if you chilled them in the fridge for a while. Prices have surged, and the designs all seem identical. The backyard T. Rex thrills the kids, and they find the small mining zone interesting. Now, with all that being said, if you are from out of state, it is worthwhile to see it once.

Yelp
The atmosphere is great and they have any and everything. The breakfast was ok...... I've had better, and it's very expensive..... $66 plus I bought another order of pancakes so that was $9. We have a family of 4 and that's A LOT for breakfast.

Yelp
Total tourist pit stop, but worth it. Cool history cir. 1931. We stopped to check out all the hype - glad we did.

Yelp
This place could be overstimulating for some for sure but it was worth the stop. I'm a sucker for roadtrip stops. And I may make my family crazy with all the "world's largest_______! Exit now!" Stops we have made. Haha! Casey, Indiana knows what I'm talking about (y'all should go there too it's amazing). Finding this place was easy. Parking was awesome. The cafe is a bit pricey but the food was good so I don't want to sound complainy. It was worth the lunch break stop overall. The employees were amazing and they were so on top of everything and helpful and so kind. There was never a dirty table around. We enjoyed all the shops! We actually wish we had had more time to enjoy them a little more, honestly. The Wall Backyard was so fun! The kids thought it was incredible. We ended our time there with the homemade ice cream and it did not disappoint. So good! They have homemade donuts that people love (we don't splurge for them this trip) and 5cent coffee. What's not to love. The place was so clean! And the people were sweet. Win win in our book. Everyone seriously enjoyed it!

Yelp
Did you see the sign for Wall Drug Store? This ultimate tourist destination lives up to the hype and should be part of your South Dakota adventure. They have free ice water and 5 cent coffee, but the real attraction is mingling with travelers in a fun place. They are in Wall and a little off the freeway, but worth the stop. Parking can be tricky, and there is a giant Tesla charging station here too. The store is split into many individual shops with a unique focus. Yes, there is a drug store still on premises that can fill your prescription. But they also have western wear, souvenirs, food, and pretty much everything else. Walking around the inside, I saw many smiles on even the most weary travelers as they explored the unique wonder of the store. It can be very crowded and a little expensive, but that is pretty much any vacation. This unique stop is a great way to begin or end your Badlands adventure or just pull off Interstate 90 for a cup of coffee and a jackalope keychain. The food is average to good, especially the onion rings. Just stop at Wall Drug Store. You don't even need to buy anything, but you will probably buy something. That's why they have signs! Total tourist trap, but just lose yourself in the chaos and enjoy the ride.

Yelp
This is a classic tourist trap but it makes your heart so happy that it is worth stopping at. Located near the badlands, you will start seeing a bunch of signs to turn to go to wall drug. We did not get any food, but there is so much to see and stretch your legs out. If you are doing a long drive, this is a highly recommended spot to take some pictures with the kids And get a snack.

Yelp
This place just may be the tourist trap of South Dakota. A series of a adjoined buildings house various and sundry items from memorabilia, camping gear, specialty foods, to local style cooking at their café. Wall Drug isn't your ordinary drugstore. It's a treasure trove of captivating curiosities, eclectic art, and a snapshot of America's rich history. From vintage photos to fascinating artifacts, every item has a story to tell, a moment frozen in time. But the magic doesn't stop at the door. Step outside, and you're greeted by the larger-than-life Wall Drug Dinosaur, a friendly giant who's been delighting visitors for decades. It's worth a stop if, for no other reason, than to satiate any curiosity you may have about this place.

Yelp
I can't believe it how cool this place is! This is a legacy family business and such a wonderful treat! I felt like it was right out of a Wes Anderson film and enjoyed every minute. Our 7 year old son had a blast and so did my elderly parents. The food is simple but fantastic and the staff is beyond hospitable. Highly recommend you make the trip out here if you have the chance. Just follow the signs!!! For you vegetarians, the vegan burger is awesome and the egg sandwich with a side of hash browns is perfect. A side of the mashed potatoes is a nice side too! Don't forget your bumper sticker and a Wall Drug mug!!

Poohders D.

Yelp
I was expecting more country homemade goods by locals but for the nostalgia this stop is great for picking up clothing or trinkets, They have a great camping goods store!

Laura T.

Yelp
Iconic landmark and the history behind Wall Drug is very cool. Food was mediocre, but ice cream shop was good. Definitely stop in if you're in town but it's not a great meal.

Yelp
this is old school, retro, and yet modern cool stuff. the tyrannosaurus rex that goes off every 10 minutes, and the sluice are great for the kids. They have a full chapel where you can get married, a sweets shop that is awesome, and restaurants. you have to keep on walking from room to room to really get the full experience. look at all the robotronic figures as well. this is great fun!
