"There may come a time when you would like to eat a kale salad and french fries in the neighborhood. Or seven oysters and three cocktails. Or a Bloody Mary, and maybe a french dip, too. For those times, it's Walter’s you want. You might see an employee in a bowtie, but don’t be fooled—this place is as casual as any other neighborhood spot. Come in a sweatshirt for brunch with fellow Bloody Mary enthusiasts, have a drink at the bar while you wait for your table at Colonia Verde, or do as we do: Start with a deviled egg (they are sold individually, which feels like an underrated idea) and an amaro spritz, and then head to the not-so-secret bar in the back for karaage (see below)." - willa moore, bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick
"A covered patio, a strong cocktail, oysters, and a burger. That’s all you need for a good time at Walter’s, a Fort Greene standby that’s been serving great food for years. This is the kind of all-day spot that works for pretty much any kind of date, from coffee meetups to sunset dining. And, since it’s right across the street from Fort Greene Park, the two of you can go for a walk after your meal for the full rom-com effect." - will hartman, bryan kim, willa moore, neha talreja

"Walter's is one of those spots that's perfect for pretty much everything, like a last-minute meal before a show at BAM or a nightcap and snack afterward so you can discuss exactly what that one-man show of millennial angst meant. They know what every neighborhood restaurant needs to thrive: simple, well-executed classics (like fried chicken and a burger), reasonable prices, and a friendly environment where everyone feels at home. "Located right on the southeast corner of Fort Greene Park is Walters, a neighborhood restaurant serving a little bit of everything. The corner bar and bistro has warm, dark wood accents, Lisbon-inspired tile floors, and excellent people watching from its outdoor dining area. Spend the morning in the park, then stop in for brunch where you can get anything from a lobster roll to shakshuka, huevos rancheros, and fried chicken and waffles. In a never-before-seen twist, you can also add Gruyere to your lobster roll, which is hard not to want to try. But no matter what you order, their light and refreshing Diamond Negroni is a good bet: made with gin, Italian vermouth, and Luxardo Bitter Bianco, it’ll pair well with most things on the menu." - Lee Musho
