Waltz - Review - Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"If Waltz knew that we once mixed ginger ale with vodka and called it a ‘Dark and Desperate’, they probably wouldn’t let us inside this sanctuary of reverential cocktail creation again. There’s a dramatic 12-seat wooden bar at the Japanese-inspired spot, a navy, abstract birdscape wrapping around the room, and a line-up of glassware that we’ll covet until we eventually marry into the Baccarat empire. But the real theatre happens behind the bar, and thanks to the counter, everyone has a front-row seat. video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Suited bartenders whip ice around coupes, droplets of hinoki essence are painstakingly pipetted with pinky-out flare, and a micro lemon peel heart is tweezered onto the surface of the highly sippable sake gibson. The subtly sweet and not-so-subtly glamorous vermouth and Suze ‘Brooklyn, Tokyo’ is our pick of the concise menu. Stop by for one whenever a Shoreditch date night or catch-up could do with a perma-hum of hedonism. video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley RESERVE A TABLE" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Waltz Bar in London is a vibe that hits all the right notes! The drinks? Absolutely stunning—each cocktail is a masterpiece, bursting with bold flavors and crafted with serious flair. The intimate, moody ambiance sets the perfect backdrop for a night out, while the staff’s warmth makes you feel instantly at home. Whether you’re sipping a creative concoction or a classic done just right, every pour is pure magic. A must-visit gem for anyone craving a top-tier bar experience in the heart of the city!

Had a really lovely experience here. The drinks were well made, and the Matcha Old Fashioned stood out, surprisingly smooth and easy to drink. The setup of the bar made it easy to talk with the staff while they prepared everything, which was a nice touch. I’d go back and would recommend it to others looking for a relaxed spot with quality cocktails.

Really enjoyed my time at Waltz. Tried their signature Matcha Old Fashioned — rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. The matcha is whisked fresh at the bar, which adds a nice touch to the experience. The bar was busy but still had a relaxed, intimate vibe with great music and attentive staff. Small and cozy spot, so arriving early is a good idea. If you’re into thoughtful, Japanese-inspired cocktails in a cool atmosphere, Waltz is definitely worth checking out.

I came here because I love Japanese culture and wanted to enjoy the authentic omotenashi experience in London. The drinks were fantastic — I started with a Matcha Old Fashioned and later had a Sweet Woodruff cocktail. The flavors were amazing, and the atmosphere initially felt great. HOWEVER, the evening ended on a very disappointing note. At just after 9:00 PM — less than two hours after I arrived — while I still had half of my second drink, a staff member came over and asked me to either ORDER ANOTHER DRINK or SETTLE THE BILL IMMEDIATELY. There was NO prior mention of a time limit, and the tone felt ABRUPT AND RUSHED. I had planned to finish my drink slowly and leave around 9:30 PM, but I was forced to drink quickly, which completely ruined the experience. Considering I spent nearly £60 (including service charge), I didn’t expect to feel UNWELCOME. Japanese hospitality (omotenashi) is about care, patience, and making guests feel comfortable. SADLY, this was the opposite. If there is a time limit, please let guests know in advance, and approach the conversation in a more considerate way. It would make a huge difference. Great drinks, but this left a very negative impression, and I’m UNLIKELY to return.

I have to say it’s the best bar I’ve ever been. The atmosphere was so good, all the staffs were so warm. And the matcha old-fashioned, all the flavours were so harmonious, with an extremely smooth texture. I definitely recommend it!

Very cozy and discreet place. Cocktails are top notch! Among the bests in London, Gento is doing great work. Very friendly staff, amazing cocktails and good food. PD: Fig leaf is just the best cocktail Ive ever tried, matcha old fashioned must try too!

They change cocktail list every season. I had new seasonal cocktail with Shochu. Couldn’t forget the taste. Dream place.

As a Tokyo resident, I was introduced to this bar by several of my regular haunts, all of whom spoke highly of Gento-san’s mastery of mixology and exceptional hospitality. I’m delighted to say they were absolutely right. From the moment you step into Waltz, you’re enveloped by an inviting atmosphere—one shaped by its carefully curated music, elegant decor, intimate lighting, and, most importantly, the warmth of its staff. Needless to say, the drinks were superb in both their flavour and innovation, but I also enjoyed great conversations with all the bartenders; this is what elevates a good bar to a great bar, in my opinion. For years, I’ve felt that London was missing a genuinely authentic Japanese cocktail bar, and stepping into Waltz was like being transported to one of Tokyo’s finest. Whether you’re seeking to relive the exemplary hospitality of a bar you previously visited in Japan or are just curious to sample some cocktails made using Japanese spirits, liqueurs and ingredients, I assure you that this bar will scratch your itch.
