Great value for money in midtown for lunch! The food and interior is great for a sit down lunch with coworkers. The udom noodles are very chewy and fresh. The chirashi bowl was good too and the rice is flavored unlike the normal vinegar sugar mixture. Highly recommend!

Great Japanese restaurant. The Obanzai was amazing. Specifically, the customer manager takes good care of customers. Impressive!! Highly recommended.

TLDR: Wano is an omakase experience for all but definitely will appeal to you if you're more of a traditional purist eater. Omakase is excellent and if you're going to pop in to have one singular item - don't leave without the tossaki roll. You won't find that anywhere else. I came across Wano after seeing some picture on IG of their tossaki handroll. Now this is not any ordinary hand roll, it's a signature item of Chef Sato who helped launch Wano. I was trying to eat this myself in Ginza but the fact I could now get this in New York - I knew I had to go. A random Saturday night and we found ourselves at the sushi bar. Wano is in the same space and same company behind of MIFUNE. Chef Tomomi who worked with Chef Sato in Hakkoku is now here and it truly was a treat to be served by him. Ayana and Daniel were also wonderful hosts and we stayed long after our dinner service because we had a great time. Food-wise, the omakase had a slightly different format but enjoyable nonetheless. First was the tossaki hand roll, a tuna temaki made from a cut near the neck of the tuna. Very tender, flavor-forward and the perfect accompaniment with crisp roasted nori and well-seasoned sushi rice. The sushi rice is so distinct, it almost looks dark brown from all the vinegar. Not salty as you might imagine, perfectly al dente and well balanced. This rice is dark, like Chinese takeout fried rice dark. It's so good though and like any omakase fan boy or girl knows - the most memorable thing from all great omakases is the rice! All the nigiri was excellent. The chawanmushi was especially luxurious with the piled on uni, caviar, chives, etc. The botan ebi was especially memorable, it was slightly cooked almost like a poached texture but so full of flavor. I love a good spotted prawn raw too but this was really unique. Almost reminded me of the flavor of a great langoustine. I also was fortunate to try the abalone and mushrooms which was super unique. Nice, bouncy chunks of abalone paired beautifully with the nice earthy mushrooms. I was hoping for some silver-skinned fish but chef said he had not yet found the optimal fish to source and that's why there was none. That was a very respectable answer. Everything was awesome but 100% my favorite was the hand roll. So nice, had to have it twice. I genuinely think Wano is a place you should try whether you're just your feet wet or you're a seasoned omakase diner. With the right marketing and word of mouth, I think Wano will become a destination sushi-ya. Much like Takeda on the UWS was when they first opened so many years ago.

One of the best no frills sushi spots in NYC. If you want excellent sushi quality/traditional style without all the Americanized bells and whistles, this your spot. My new go to spot — and if you want to upgrade your dining experience they have Sushi Amane their high end omakase downstairs.

While my girlfriends came to visit NY, we discovered Wano. It’s really cozy and hidden which we didn’t mind. We knew it was going to be authentic Japanese food from the chefs and pictures. We ordered the sushi nigiri sets to share, we had Tuna, Kanpachi, salmon, shrimp and uni to name a few. We also ordered a bottle of the Kuroshi sake to enjoy with our meal. We also ordered their Miso Cod and Teriyaki salmon to share. Overall, it was a delicious meal and would definitely have the sushi everyday if I could. The ambiance was relaxing and quiet for me and my friends to catch up. I would definitely come back for date night or a family gathering next time.

The service was superb but the food was way too salty. By food I mean the Udon and teriyaki chicken set. Haven’t tried the sushi yet.

Had an amazing omakase dinner here! The waitress Eva was fantastic, great sake on offer with good recommendations. Will definitely come back again!

The food was of the best quality I have had in Midtown! Fresh fish and delicious rice bowls. The service was extremely forthcoming. The place was quiet even though it was a good lunch crowd. A minor issue for me is that the kitchen is open (like many other places), so some fabrics take on the smell.

I was looking for new spots to eat in the city and Wano came up. Their lunch menu caught my eye and I immediately knew I had to go. I got the Obanzai which came with miso soup and salad. The set of small plates in itself was a feast for the eyes. I loved the assortment of textures and flavors throughout all of them - from the fresh salmon carpaccio, to the melt-in-your-mouth wagyu, to the crunchy tempuras. Our absolute favorite was the miso cod - now knowing how amazing they make it here, I can definitely see myself ordering this as an entree. We got the Hojicha Panna Cotta which came with Hojicha ice cream and it tied the meal out nicely. Service was amazing. Looking at their dinner menu they have omakase and kaiseki tasting menu which one of the servers took the time to explain what the latter was. Will definitely be back for their dinner menu in the future!

first of all, i want to start off that i dont write reviews that much unless im happy with the experience or wanting to give feedback for the better future. reserved for 2 people for valentines day and was informed that prix fixe was only available. (i did not make the reservation so didnt know what courses were about to come to the table) after we sat down, the drink menu was given. i expected a course menu catalog to see the options, instead, the options were given orally for us to choose for the soup. since i didnt know about what was about to come, i was quite disappointed that it was just 2 small apps, 5 pieces of sushi (the ebi nigiri was stale and too salty), a soup to share, and a dessert being $100- especially on a valentines day. i usually dont eat much but this course did not even make me half full which is very subjective within my own means. all servers were attentive and welcoming, however, i wouldve appreciated it if explanations were there everytime a dish came out. (some were informed but not everything) loved the vibe and place though. + pulled out the description from the website after. as a customer, more details would be great. (it wasnt 10 pieces, it was 5 per person)

My favorite thing was the service. One of the waiters-Asian guy with glasses is very knowledgeable about the sake; we got something with 35 on the label, it was delicious. Also the other tall white waiter was very good with filling up water and giving suggestions. The fish was fresh and interesting. We got the 10 piece tasting set for $80. I really liked the ikura at the end. So fresh! Even though I don't normally like ikura. Chef is Japanese, which you don't see a lot of nowadays in most sushi places. I dropped a piece and the waitress offered to replace it for free :) it was also cool to see her speak to the chef in Japanese even though she is white. We also got rainbow roll which is delicious as well and I enjoyed tasting real crab in it. I think all the rice they use is brown. We also got some grilled meats, the garlic butter chicken and the pork chop were both delicious although I prefer the pork chop a little bit more. The only thing I would change is the wait time, I felt like we were waiting forever for our food. But no one rushed you and it's a great spot for a date or to chat with friends. Bathrooms nice and clean too!

I am conflicted about my review... b/c our original plan was to have their sushi omakase... but due to an unforeseen circumstance - their sushi chef was not available. So... since we were there for dinner, didn't have a back up plan... we opted for their Kisseki omakase (which is traditional Japanese meal). My only experience with a traditional Kisseki omakase was in Tokyo... and that meal was amazing. The ambiance is modern sleek, it was a Thursday night... so we were 1 of 3 parties eating there that night... the service was good, as it should be... the food itself was good as well. Honestly not very memorable... I did like the cod fish... and the toro dish. I wasn't blown away like the meal from Tokyo... What I would have liked - since the restaurant couldn't offer the sushi option, why didn't they let all their patrons know ahead of time? Just as they expect us, the customers to let them know in 24 hrs if we could still make the reservation? This would have offered us an opportunity to make alternate plans; rather than being "semi-forced" to eat there. I mean seriously... you really don't have an option... it's dinner time, you're starving and exhausted from work... who wants to go wander around for food?!? Soooo good and also the staff was so nice def need to come back again when I have time for a full omakase

We went at 730p on a Friday night for a group of nine because they had a reservation available on resy. This should have been an immediate red flag. After entering, there were only two other tables in the entire establishment. We ordered bottles of sake for the table, which confusingly they did not serve to everyone. Most of the group ordered sushi with some tempura things with two people ordering cooked dishes. I can't even explain to you the logic behind how they served the food. They brought three people their sushi entrees out probably 15 minutes after ordering.. 20 minutes later they brought another two sushi entrees out. At least 20 minutes later they brought out the first cooked entree (Foie Gras). After probably another 10 minutes the $100 Wagyu steak was still no where to be found. At this point everyone at the table had been done eating and ready to go. The waiter came over and apologized and said they would take it off the check, but still wanted to serve it. They promised it would be "another 2 minutes." Fast forward 15 minutes it finally arrives. The best part of the dish was the fermented miso paste. Definitely would not pay $100 for what I received or wait as long as we did. Long story short the food was mediocre at best. better bang for your buck at the sushi bar at the new Wegmans in Astor place. The check was still almost $800 (after comping the steak). You would think they would have done something else for the inconvenience for the rest of the table who had to wait, like maybe buy a round of drinks as a show or good faith, but nope. They did however tell us to "leave a bad review if you want " and handed us the ticket from the kitchen showing the steak had not been made. Not really sure what the point was, but there did seem to be some tension between the two servers and the chef. Moral of the story: if a restaurant in NYC has a last minute resy available on a Friday night for a group of 9 -- avoid it . Joe's pizza had never tasted better after leaving this place.

Made a reservation on a Wednesday night and got the opportunity to enjoy a quiet evening. As we stepped in the door, the host gives you an option to either dine at the Omakase counter which was $150 or to order from the a-la carte menu in the dining room. We chose the Omakase experience because we're big fans of enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine. We requested to have some sake first before the omakase began, the menu also showed which piece of nigiri was going to be next. The music was nice and relaxing. Every bite was just pure perfection and delight.

JUST DON'T COME HERE. Unless you want to pay PREMIUM prices for soggy brown rice with limp flavorless fish. And Uni that tastes like Fish Taint. Better off getting the "Sushi" at the corner Gristedes. Please trust me.

I stumbled onto Wano during my recent visit to NY after running errands close to my hotel. What an incredible find! Coming from the Bay Area I can certainly be a snob when it comes to quality and authentic sushi but Wano exceeded my expectations. This was certainly one of the best experiences I've had outside of Japan and sitting at the bar with the chef made me long to return to Japan due to the familiarity. I will definitely be returning to Wano on my next visit and highly recommend it.

The food on the tasting menu was delicious, the ambience serene and the server and general manager Ayana Mazon were attentive and gracious. This is definitely a place we will dine at whenever we are in NYC.

Had a great meal at this new restaurant. Food and was amazing, highest quality fish and great selection of sake. Service was really attentive and warm. Manager Ayana checked on us throughout our dinner. Definitely will be back and recommend this restaurant to all my friends

What an exceptional experience! The food was out of this world, prepared with precision and artistry. The sushi chef spoke little English and I spoke no Japanese but we communicated through translate as he educated me on what was being prepared for my Omikase. Every member of the staff was friendly and completely educated on all the food, drink and customs which they shared with me as I asked about the various items. The chef was truly an artist with his culinary skills as well as his pottery making-he made many of the small serving dishes which were beautiful. Very reasonably priced for the exceptional quality, even for Midtown. You must not pass this gem up!!

Amazing time. Not only because of the food, the drinks , the atmosphere but the service was beyond my expectations. Ayana and Daniel went beyond to make sure everyone in my party was well taken care of. Everything was done wonderfully and in a timely fashion. They made us feel very welcomed and I can't wait to visit again and again.

I visited WANO for lunch and dinner this week since my office is not to far away. The manager and all service team were very welcoming and excited to introduce WANO's new concept. Food, service, and ambiance are all 10/10. Looking forward to seeing Ayana and Daniel soon! My favorite dish for lunch was the Miso Cod set because it reminded me of MIFUNE's lunch specials. As for dinner, I tried the Omakase in the dining room and it was superb.

The food and service are both top notch. Ayana, the manager, took incredible care of us and the drinks by Daniel were exceptional (and I'm picky about my cocktails). The sashimi was some of the freshest and most delicious I've ever had, and the surprise of the night was the truffle potatoes--do yourself a favor and grab those along with your sushi. If they're this good when they're new, I can't wait to see where they go next!

I patronized Mifune and was always impressed with the service, quality and food. Chef Tomo always did a spectacular job. The new chef is even better but things have changed. Some for the better some not! The house special maguro is to die for. It melts in your mouth with succulent flavor. The unagi with uni is to die for and the prices for a sushi dinner is very fair at 85.00. Now for the bad, the restaurant is very noisy when packed and the music choice is bad. There seems to be issues between one of the servers names Ayana and chef. At one point I think she was yelling at him. Anyway it was very very unprofessional and I don't like being around a negative vibe at that price. Maybe she doesn't work lunch and I'll check it out. The food gets 5 stars atmosphere 3 staff person 1.

This is the best sushi you'll ever have. The service is beyond amazing!! The sushi chef is the nicest person I have ever met and shared amazing information about Japan and its cuisine. The food is refreshing, filling and so flavorful thank you Wano for the unforgettable experience

Had dinner at new restaurant my social media person recommended WANO. the place looks nice. It's a small place with a nice sushi bar but small. Hostess greeted our party with a beautiful smile and welcomed us. Our Japanese hostess then seated us and this open space kind of allows you to see what goes on. They have a nice bar and the food that came out looked wonderful. Appetizer was excellent, prices are fair. portions a bit smaller than expected except the sushi sampler 15 pieces is good. I felt tension among the staff they did not seem happy. There was a tall dark haired person who was taking care of an asian woman and paying little or no attention to the others. She had a real attitude when we asked for something her attitude was like, "hey, I'm not your server." We think she was the manager. All in all except for her the food gets a 10 and atmosphere a 5 ( they could have made it nicer for the price) and if they get rid of that woman the atmosphere will certainly be better. Enjoy the food and that tall dark haired server.

WANO is a new sushi restaurant in midtown serving a sushi forward menu with a highlight on the imported Japanese tuna! The ambience is elegant, the staff is knowledgeable and the fish was so fresh! Thinking about coming back for lunch as I heard their lunch service is great for business parties.

I would like to write a review discussing my phenomenal experience at the grand opening Wano. It is located on 245 East 44th street in the heart of Midtown between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The general manager explained to me two menus they are currently offering. I am a returning guest from Mifune and she promised to offer some of Mifune's dishes speciality. They have brought back Foie Gras Sautèe, A5 Wagyu, Miso Cod, and Sauteèd Abalone. Her and the bartender Daniel gave the best experience possible. For the price and food quantity you can't ask for a better price. The ambiance is 5/5. They offer numerous amounts of sake that pair amazing with the food. I am definitely coming back as I work in the United Nations. I will be discussing this experience with my colleagues, friends and family as this enviroment is suitable for all crowds. Whoever is writing a negative comment about the manager is a lie or service team have not been served at the establishment as they uphold the best service.
