Washington Bakery & Restaurant in San Francisco-Chinatown truly has the BEST Chinese Porridge in the Bay Area. I've been dining there with my family for the past 20 years and our server Anna is amazing. She has been taking good care of us since, and knows exactly what and how we like our food. The restaurant was recently remodeled back in December and is great to see that Chelsea (pictured) is running the business now. The Fish Filet Porridge, Preserve Egg & Pork Porridge, Chinese Fried Bread, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, Lemon Iced Tea is our top favorite items to order. The Won Ton Noodle Soup, Shrimp Dumpling Noodle Soup, Chicken Chow Fun, and Potstickers are delicious choices too.

I like the atmosphere inside here but the noodles soups and wontons are unacceptable. Today I had the wonton duck noodle soup and chicken rice. The overall restaurant is mediocre at best, however the dishes I’ve had here will keep me away forever. Honestly I feel that my dog could make a better noodle soup than this place. For starters, the broth was sweet, sweet from the gallons of MSG it has in it. For a broth to have a lingering sweetness of MSG it would need an astronomical amount of MSG with every ml of broth. To add on, the wontons fillings looks and taste like octopus that’ve been sitting in bleach and seasoned with flecks of moldy fatty pork bits. And they were suppose to be fresh shrimp and pork wontons. Beware of the soup that comes with the chicken rice dish as well, I still have MSG lining my tongue and it’s been 4 hours since I drank it. The porridge was a sticky mess as well. I would skip this avoid this place.

Friendly staff, delicious food! The roti duck wrap was our favorite and the tomato beef noodles were not bad too. Heated up well for leftovers too. A no-frills place for when you just want some good comfort food.

I got the minced beef porridge for breakfast and some milk tea. It hit the spot! Customer service is excellent, and service is quick. I recommend this place for a warm and delicious breakfast. Enjoy!

A wonderful little bakery/restaurant (not small by any means) that has excellent food. The Culture is pretty lively at the location which can be felt from the decorations, food, and service. Considering most Chinese places I go to, their food seems to have its own unique feel to it. Duck burrito that was ordered was excellent. Wrapping for it was by all mean non - oily which I have yet to see in any location. Duck was perfectly done with the sauce giving it a nice finish. Black pepper beef kept on having me come back for me. Hanian chicken was a nice but sadly I'm not a thigh or wing person. If anything, i regret ordering the Sprite soda since I really didn't need it since heavy oil was really non - existent. I did have to worry about food coma but I blame that mostly on the beef and noodles which I couldn't stop myself from. Hopefully next time I will be able to try their baked goods.

Visited to check out the new changes since the ownership change / renovation. I saw their Instagram posts and was drawn in to the nice modernization and aesthetic change. Food prices average $11+ for HK Cafe style food which is on the higher side of Chinatown. I would have no problem with that if the food met up to the price tag, but it did not. Food wasn't terrible, but it was extremely average and not worth the price tag. If I'm going to be paying that much, there are plenty of amazing spots in SF I'd rather spend my money on. Service was also so so. The only reason it's sitting at a 3 star right now and not lower is because I did not try their bakery and drinks which I assume I would enjoy a lot more. Until I test that assumption.. I'll give them the benefit of doubt.
