Back around December, one of my dear Yelp friends, Lisa O., told me about this place out in Virginia Beach where they serve not only beer, but dishes like pretzels, baked bread, salads and pizza. Turns out they also had a discount for $30 off your meal (either for dine-in or takeout). Since it's Memorial Day weekend, why not take a trek from Newport News to the Southside to check this place out??
The brewery itself is tucked away next to a bicycle shop. Inside is beautiful with indoor and outdoor seating. And the artwork is excellent as well. You can also bring your dog for some treats and it is family friendly too. Now, onto the food:
-For beer, I picked the Wasserhund German Shepeweizen. It is wheat beer with a taste of bananas and cloves. A very good way to start off your meal. Not bitter at all and you can taste the fruit flavor as well.
-For apps, we picked tail twigs which are housemade bread sticks served with marinara and ranch dipping sauce. Really damn good bread. Came out right out the oven and very soft with each bite. My girlfriend said there should've been more olive oil spread on the bread but I didn't mind at all. And the sauces were very good too. I say the ranch was slightly better than marinara.
-For our main course, we chose a large Italian Greyhound pizza which consists of Italian sausage, pepperoni and Roma tomatoes. A truly wonderful creation. With every bite, I could taste a slight crunch. And the toppings were just right. Since we were full, half of this bad boy was all boxed up and ready to take home.
I can truly say this trip was all worth it. From the staff to the food, it was a pleasure. I will make sure to tell friends of mine to try them out and I'm sure they'll enjoy it as much as we did. And a special thank you to Lisa O. for suggesting them. We will back here real soon. And as they say in Germany: prost!!!
