"Temple of Dawn Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok 's Yai district. It is situated on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The temple is one of the best known Thai landmarks. The mosaics which cover the temple create a pearly sheen during sunrise and sunset. Ferries can be caught at the Tha Tien Pier across the river from Wat Arun every couple of minutes. Tha Tien Pier is located near the Grand Palace and Wat Po."

Visiting Bangkok: My Suggested 3-5 Day Itinerary for 2025

"Perched on the Chao Phraya River opposite the Grand Palace, Wat Arun is my favorite temple in Bangkok: its single main spire (with four smaller ones) is so iconic it appears on Thai money, and from the top of the main spire you get sweeping views of the city." - Matthew Kepnes

I first saw Wat Arun back in 2017 (without entering), so during my 2025 trip I made sure to finally explore it properly! We took a boat from Rajinee Pier for 40 baht. The ride was quick and easy, but be prepared, the river is brown and has a strong smell, so sitting close to the water isn’t the most pleasant experience. Cash is better here, as card payments can be tricky. Entrance to Wat Arun costs 200 baht per person, and it includes a small bottle of water. Remember to dress modestly, proper clothing is required to enter. 👗🙏 Even on a weekday, the temple was very crowded! Many visitors were renting traditional Thai costumes and taking endless photos. The atmosphere was lively but also quite humid and hot, with limited greenery providing shade 🌞🌿. I tried climbing part of the temple to get a better view, but the stairs are extremely steep. not recommended for elderly visitors or children. If you’re looking for peace and comfort, you might want to reconsider. but if you’re chasing history and iconic views, it’s ok to visit!

This place is massive. If you reach from the pier, get a map to access the places in and around it. Compared to Wat Pho, this place the Wat Arun could have been better maintained. We didn’t get to see the lit up view of it in the night but the exterior needs some love. The entrance fee here is reasonable but still a bit high but they provide few bottles of water for free. The are inside is kept very clean though. Be careful while climbing on of the structures which have tall steps. You will enjoy the breeze and view around. The shops here are priced on a higher side than what you would otherwise find in the surrounding markets of bangkok.

One of the most iconic places to visit n Bangkok. There is an admission fee of 200THB. We arrived by boat from the pier. Near the road access are multiple stores which rent traditional dress for photography sessions on the temple grounds. We are actually enjoyed observing these. Be prepared to take off your shoes to enter the temples. We recommend a visit as early as possible. Ourselves we arrived at noon when it was very hot with very little shade. 🛕📸🌞

Wat Arun was truly impressive! The architecture, the colors, and the whole atmosphere were amazing to experience. I definitely recommend taking a boat to the other side of the river exen the short ride is fun and gives you great views. The highlight for me was the sunset. Watching the sun go down behind the temple and seeing everything glow in warm light felt absolutely magical. It’s an experience you shouldn’t miss when visiting Bangkok!

it's Grand, it's Majestic, and it's definitely one of the spots for a must visit! But there's o so many people, it would definitely be a challenge not to have a stranger in your pictures. Passing by this place on the Chao Phraya Princess Cruise at night made my jaw dropped. The lighting and the illumination made it appear even more mystical and spectacular.

We took a ferry from the Grand Palace to visit Wat Arun. Modest dressing is required, so make sure to cover your legs. Inside, you’ll find people offering traditional Thai costumes for just 200 Baht, and professional photographers are available — I highly recommend trying it for some great photos. Visiting in the evening is best, as you can see two views: one without lights and another with golden lighting that feels a bit like looking at the Eiffel Tower. The structure is huge, highly detailed, and perfect for photography.

Wat Arun is absolutely stunning, especially with the sunlight reflecting off the intricate porcelain details. The architecture is unique and incredibly beautiful up close. The atmosphere feels peaceful despite the number of visitors, and the river setting makes it even more special. Climbing part of the central prang gives you lovely views, and the whole complex is very well maintained. Go early in the morning or around sunset for the best experience. A must-see in Bangkok.

This is Bangkok's most important landmark 🇹🇭. After visiting the Grand Palace, don't miss this temple, which is featured on the Thai 10-baht coin. I was so happy to wear traditional Thai clothing. The interior is beautiful, and the pagoda is huge. Everyone comes here to take photos in traditional Thai clothing. You can rent traditional Thai clothing at many shops behind the temple, with prices ranging from 100 to 500 baht. Admission is free for Thais and about 100 baht for foreigners. Open time from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you've already visited the Grand Palace or Wat Pho, you can take a ferry across the river to this temple.
