Great find in Austin! We came from Temple and loved this place! Such great menu with so many options! We loved everything we ordered and will be coming back to try other items. Service was fast and staff was lovely! Also, we loved the pumpkin patch set up for Fall!

Love this place! Haven’t been here in years and it was honestly a happy accident; I was getting my car fixed across the street and decided to get breakfast and kill some time while I waited. Good beer selection, good chicken fried steak and the biscuit! Dawson and Sam were great they kept my coffee full and service was outstanding!

I really liked the place. I got Hill Country Breakfast. The plate was 14$ but I think it is a bit overpriced. The taste was good.

Gave this location a shot after a disaster of an eating experience their South Park Meadows establishment: and have concluded the brand/management is just absolute junk.. like their food, and their service. Maybe this place was considered cool in the 90's. I have no idea why anyone would eat here. No silverware included in my order, and a bun was put on my burger despite leaving instructions for no bun.. plus the burger itself was cooked extremely well done so it was chewy and dry like cardboard.. what a joke. Skip this rat-hole and go up the street to Top Notch or Hop Doddy. This brand is trash. Check out my picture of the cheeseburger I ordered. Does this institutional overcooked junk look like it's worth $18 ?

Waterloo was great! Mexican breakfast tacos were awesome! Service was great. The atmosphere was nice. Clean place, family friendly. Not sure what more you could ask from a restaurant. I only had the breakfast tacos, my buddy got the pulled pork sandwich and liked it. I would eat here again for sure. I think the only thing I will ever be able to order from here again though is the Mexican Breakfast Tacos! Ha! So good!

2 items you must try. Please, I beg you. 1) The catfish meal or bites ($4 on Tuesdays) 2) The breakfast egg sandwich with sausage 🥪 Thank me later. Also, the pancakes are tasty too

Welcomed in friendly. Vibrant atmosphere. Clean tables. Not too busy during breakfast. We found seating right away. Server started off great. But once we received our food, we never saw our waiter again. One plate of food was missing and after almost 10 minutes we had to go look for it while everyone else had their plates. We had to get all of our condiments, syrup and drink refills ourselves. Our food tasted awesome. No complaints there. Small portions for the price.

I have been eating at this Waterloo since it was a Mexican food place before it. I used to love coming here for any of the three meal times. But it's been awhile since I was last in there, until today. I ventured in for lunch and had their special of 50 cent boneless chicken wings. Buffalo sauce was not my favorite, which I can look past that for personal taste. However, in the minute I watched my plate go from the cook's warming shelf, to the counter, to my table, why were my wings as cold as like they have been sitting out for 3-4 hours in the air conditioning? I called the guy over from the counter and asked him to have the cook put them under the broiler to warm them up, and bring them back to me. No problem. What I think happened is that the cook used a refrigerated sauce for the wings instead of a warm sauce. I finished my food and left in a pretty upset state. 1 star for food. 1 star for the guy taking my food back to be heated up, otherwise complete self-serve lunch, so not really any service at all to rate. 1 star for the atmosphere due it it being super dark inside like a downtown bar. This place used to be a great place to eat at, seeing old neighborhood friends from time to time and always a plate of hot food. This trip was not it for me, and I will not return again after eating here all these years. This does not have to be like this! I wish you all the best.

Went here for an early morning breakfast with mimosas on our minds. Both were perfect. Staff was nice and on top of their service. The inside reminded me like something you would see out of a movie. Rustic little pub style. Definitely recommend this restaurant especially if you are just looking for a simple breakfast with great drink options.

I won't go into detail, but... It sure was nice getting off from my eight hour (restaurant) service Industry job just to be gaslighted and scammed by a "fellow" service industry worker. Him: "Would you like to speak with a manager?" Me (knowing what this entails): "no." JFC.

There's a Kids' Meal Feature!! (Turkey meatballs over mashed potatoes, with green beans) I love my boring little routines (like tots vs. salad). I branched out today! Waterloo sweet potato fries are very thin and crispy, not the usual hunks of sweet potato that aren't even hot in the center. And the onion rings! The onion still has its essential character, the (light, delicious) breading is the perfect accompaniment. Had I known earlier how good this combination is, I'd have thrown over the perfect Waterloo tots earlier. Well, maybe: they really are perfect too.

Food is average and not the best but the drinks are great! They have a great happy hour deal where margaritas are only $5 and although the drinks aren't super strong they are very refreshing and flavorful! My personal favorite is the mango but the strawberry and blackberry are also really good. They have a nice patio so it's the perfect place to grab drinks and hang out and play cards. Wouldn't go for a meal but would go for drinks. Service is a bit slow but is nice

Another try at breakfast: chicken fried chicken awesome, biscuits too doughy, gravy bit too thin- flavor bland. Coffee had no flavor, biscuits and gravy: doughy biscuits (should have got half order) 2 scrambled eggs looked like one and were very dry, eggs ordered with chicken plate were ordered over medium were runny inside and like rubbery plastic out. Bloody Mary ordered: taste good, presentation poor. Nothing but a piece of lime and olive with rim salt was delivered: ordered a large glass, double shot served in small glass. Had to order from waiter not our waiter, not bartenders either.

Really liked the quality of the ingredients in the tacos, the staff was very friendly, and the sweet potato waffle fries wepera pleasant surprise.

My second time here, but just as enjoyable. The food was good and the staff were really nice. It wasn't too crowded when we got there around 1120 a.m., but it started to pick up around 12. The place is clean, not fancy but kind of authentic as a dinner should be. The good news is that Waterloo has several beers on the tap. If you have the time and are in the vicinity, then stop by Waterloo Ice House on Burnett and experience it for yourself!

I found the service to be quite average.  It took a while for my server to notice me. It was a Sunday, in the early afternoon, and they weren't particularly busy with patrons.  But employees were busy with each other.  When I ate, I felt like I was dining in their space. My meal was tasty, though. My pancakes had light texture and were cooked just the right amount, and my eggs came out right. The only complaint is that a lot of the eggs came out in very small pieces, which made it difficult to pick up. I don't know if I'll return here.

One of the iconic Austin restaurants still around and kicking a** From its humble beginnings on Congress Avenue to where they are today - great food, wonderful, friendly service and decent prices. Keeping it local The made to order fresh breakfast are mouthwatering delicious. If you have not had breakfast at your neighborhood Waterloo lately - do it - you will thank me. From the migas to the eggs Benedict to the biscuits and gravy- all good. Bon appétit

I hadn't been in quite a while but was welcomed by the relaxed and "old Austin" vibe... whatever that is, you'll know it if you've been in and out of town since the early 70's. I've been for breakfast a couple of times recently. Eggs over easy with hashbrowns. Sometimes I'm easy to please. Maybe the biscuits weren't on target that day. More like rolls and I'm assuming thats in part by whoever is in the kitchen that day. My partner and I walked out with smiles on our faces and thats worth stars a plenty. For me this is a solid 4 stars for being true to what it is.

My boyfriend stopped by my condo, having a bad day, while I was finishing up pretending to work. A post about trivia night at Waterloo Ice House came across my screen like a ray of hope. I knew what we had to do. We zipped up to Waterloo Ice House, and registered for trivia just in time. The place was packed, to the extent that we ended up sharing a large booth with some folks we didn't know, but they were cool with it. The night's entertainment was hosted by Get It Gals and was probably so popular because it was "general knowledge" themed. The questions were announced live, and answers submitted on our phone. It was a fun, easy system for nearly anyone to join and play. Since it was a busy night, it took a while for our server to come over, but he still did an excellent job. Since I didn't have too much time to get distracted by reading their extensive menu (or maybe that's just the excuse I tell myself for craving the most basic of comfort foods) I orders the kids' grilled cheese. That's one of my favorite foods, but only diners and restaurants like this do it right. However, their menu has something for everyone, and shouldn't be dismissed just because they're not trendy and new. They've been around forever because they continually serve solid food and solid experiences! There are so many reasons to recommend Waterloo Ice House, and I just found another one!

Picked up to go order yesterday. They clearly don't know how to pack a to go order of soup and sandwich! The soup was in styrofoam bowl with lid that had a huge crack in the top. They set the bowl on top of the styrofoam small container that had the chicken sandwich in it. Of course the sandwich was completely soggy because the soup broth spilled out of the lid all over inside the brown soggy paper sack. My son's catfish had nothing to dip the fish in. Um, tartar sauce would have been nice. Let me guess, I was supposed to have asked for it. Will never buy from them again. Also, please don't default your tip section to 20%. I fell for it before even realizing what I paid. Definitely not worth a tip.

This is a nice little diner with all day breakfast. You order at the bar and they call out your name over intercom to pick up your food. We ordered the Brunch Burger & Breakfast Sandwich and cut them in 1/2 - both were delicious and just what we needed. You get exactly what you order here - nothing more, nothing less. Will work my way down the menu and provide updates along the way!

I've never been to their location but I found them on doordash. Saw a review saying they had the "best chicken fried steak he's ever had". So that's what I decided to go with! They were smart & put the gravy on the side. The mashed potatoes were delicious & I don't even want to know how much butter they put in them! The bacon green beans were long & fresh, the bacon was thin just how I like it. Everything came in a tin foil lined standard styrofoam box & the texas toast was not soggy despite being in the same box as the green beans. I also have to say that was the best chicken fried steak I have ever had. Super thick & crispy breading with a juicy tender steak inside. The gravy was great as well. Super creamy & not too salty or peppery. Sometimes gravy solidifies as it cools down. This gravy kept the same consistency despite leaving the restaurant 20 minutes before it got to my door. I can't wait to order this again but I'm really excited to try tier fried catfish & fish & chips.

If you're going to eat from the regular menu, you better have some fat stacks available. They brought back a vintage menu a while back and that was the only way I could afford to eat here. I went every Thursday for a month. The staff behind the bar and counter are really nice but when I had table service I was super uncomfortable. I was with my really close friend and the waiter kept asking her to show him her tattoos so he could admire them. It got to the point to where I almost asked him to stop but she is a grown woman and could have navigated the invasiveness by herself. I joked that if she was my wife, he would have been trying to ruin our marriage on the spot. He never backed down the entire night and it made me so deeply uncomfortable. Otherwise, the restaurant has a true family vibe to it and I could tell that the manager really wanted us to have a wonderful dining experience.

Wonderful! Best way to describe our visit- we had Sam as our server. He was so attentive and kind. Honestly I would come back just for that guy SAM WITH THE BACKWARD HAT!!. The whole staff was really rad. We got burgers and queso- food was hot and delicious. Patio was chill and lovely, cold beer, delightful food. What more could you ask for. This place is definitely a sleeper spot for delightful meals and great service. Check out Waterloo ice House you won't be disappointed.

Love this place! Great food, great atmosphere, great service, but they are still using styrofoam for take out. I ordered them for take out and got stuck with lots of disgusting styrofoam. Please change that. Your fabulous food is too good to be in nasty styrofoam. I'd rather pay the few cents more that it might cost to use something compostable.

Great ambience lots of flat screens for sports viewing. Bar located on one side of restaurant so you can still have family time on the other side of restaurant. Also seating outside available. Service was great very attentive. The food was great lots of choices. I recommend the Texas Philly cheesesteak.

Had not been to Waterloo in years. Was craving a burger and rings so decided to stop in. Very glad for my choice. Wonderful food and service! Will be back and won't wait so long next time.

This place was amazing! The burger was absolutely delicious and the tater tots were perfectly crispy and crunchy. The staff was nice and the decor was cute. I can't wait to come again!!

Waterloo has always been great. Love their service and their food. Their chop steak is a go to for me. Can't go wrong with any of their burgers of the chicken fried steak. Food is always cooked to order and fresh. Get the fried mushrooms and thank me later.

The service was great and the drinks were reasonably priced, however the brunch hash was way overpriced for the portion (small bowl , level food) served and the ingredients (not sure where the ham was).

My daughter really wanted to go out to eat so she could wear her new shoes, so we went to Waterloo for dinner since they were open later than most restaurants. Our first server took our drink order and accidentally spilled all four drinks on me and my family. We were sitting in a booth so we had no way to avoid getting drenched in water and sweet tea. He was very apologetic as we tried to dry off. A different employee came over to take our order and he was apologetic as well. I thought he was the manager since he seemed interested in taking care of us. Since we sat in wet clothes the whole time we were there I expected some sort of discount for our trouble. Our server called over the manager and I explained what happened. By way of apology, he asked, "Was it really that bad?" I'm not sure why he even asked since he showed zero interest in my reply. He offered me a free desert on our next visit, which sounded pretty underwhelming for a family of four. I'm surprised he didn't start by offering us one free drink. He then offered me a free entre on my next visit. I asked if he could offer us anything on our current bill and he removed the kid's meal from our ticket, choosing the least expensive entre on our ticket. He then walked away without saying a single word. My turkey meatloaf was really good but it's not good enough to ever consider bringing my family back. Thanks for the wet clothes and for my daughter's wet socks!

Service was great and so was the food! You get a lot of food for what you pay for which is nice. Their green beans and bacon are something ELSE. So good. Since this place is down the street from me, I'll definitely be back soon!

I'm a big believer in going somewhere twice before yelping, but I'm only in Austin a few days and I doubt I'll be back. First, I LOVED the atmosphere here; it's got the true "icehouse feel". Wood walls, wood tables and chairs, wood bar with rustic corrugated metal and bar stools, open ceilings, neon lights, ...you get the idea. I think the mistake I made was in the food I ordered. I opted for the turkey meatloaf (yes, I was trying to be healthy), but let's face it: you don't eat turkey meatloaf in a joint like this. I should have eaten a burger, sandwich, or something else more befitting an icehouse. I did, however, LOVE the fried stuffed jalapeños and highly recommend that appetizer. If nothing else, I'd go back for those in a heartbeat. Skip the sauce served with them, though, it's watery and...weird. Service was quick, easy, and friendly - can't beat that combo. Bottom line: decent experience which would probably have been better had I opted for the right entree. Guess that means I gotta go back!

I have been going the various location of Waterloo for over 40 years but not for a year or so. They were always good , but perhaps not the best. I went to the Burnet Rd location yesterday for breakfast. What a shock. Half order of French toast, waterloo hash and 2 coffees = $40+ breakfast. I've aways liked their Migas but ($14.95) is way too much. Checking the other menu items and their Works hamburger was also $14.95. It's been a nice ride Waterloo but you have priced me out.

Hospitality is AMAZING here most important. Also important the food was great! Menu was huge and I wanted everything. I ended up getting the Philly cheesesteak with tots and my husband got a burger! Both were great! We will be back Saturday for breakfast since breakfast menu looks amazing but they do serve breakfast all day. This place is a must try! I still can't get over everyone being so polite! Customer service on point!

Burger was good, pancake was just ok. Really BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! The waitress was running one section by herself and could not keep up. Various tables got up to get silverware and napkins. No refills! The men's bathroom was disgusting! There was so much peeeeee everywhere! Will not return!

Since moving to Austin, I've tried to find a place like this. I remember going to Willie's in Houston, but the only location in the area is in Georgetown. But I digress; it was a really interesting find to discover this place. Many drinks, food, friendly staff, and many TVs to watch games and stuff. Happy hour includes a dollar off drafts, appetizers, and other specialty drinks. I decided to take advantage and order the fried mushrooms. I must say they were pretty hot fresh out of the oven, but I think they're good with some tasty beer. The way that the mushrooms are breaded and not too over cooked was key. I think it's a good snack to share with some dining companions as well. For my drink, I tried the tasty waves from Karbach as it was part of the special, and the seasonal summer tap they had. It was tasty, and was sort of like a hefe. The taps aren't really thorough in choice, but they have quite a bit of IPA choices. Wednesday's they have happy hour all day; might go back for that.

Quick summary: Don't order the chicken fried steak! It's way too tough and almost flavorless. Walked in around 2pm on a weekday to find double sided single page paper menus on the counter. There was no waitstaff doing table service except to bring out food from the kitchen to the table. You grab your own silverware and napkins and fix your own soft drink during off peak hours I guess? Staff were friendly and happy to customize our sides with our meals. We paid for the entire meal and gratuity prior to even sitting down. Normally we'd expect to pay after the meal so we can adjust the amount of gratuity based on the overall experience. Chicken fried steak looked good but tasted like cardboard. Texas toast with that chicken fried steak? Nope! Just thick plain white bread that was either not so fresh or was toasted too long to making it almost as tough as the chicken fried steak. The saving grace was that the mashed potatoes with skin left on the potatoes were good as was the white gravy, otherwise this dish was a big flop. I should've sent this plate back and complained immediately but then I'd be the only one not eating at our table and everyone else would be long finished eating by the time my replacement meal arrived. Plus I would've been late getting back to work too. Had a sample from my friend's trout plate it was pretty good. Also tasted the Greek salad with grilled chicken and it was good but not remarkable. About $67 for three meals and three soft drinks with tax not including gratuity. Our order was 100% correct and the kitchen got it to the table in a timely manner, which one should expect during off peak hours when the kitchen is not busy at all and there are few customers. They stated that serve breakfast all day long which seems more appealing than the lunch or dinner menu. Maine Root sodas on the fountain are always a nice touch. Bathrooms and dining area were pretty clean overall. Maybe we failed to see the real appeal here as we are not beer aficionados and didn't come in to drink alcohol. Or maybe we should've ordered breakfast instead. The lighting inside is a bit dim more like a bar less like an eatery. Will update this review should we return and taste some other dishes on the menu. Speaking of the menu I'm not knocking the paper menus at all. Food prices are soaring upwards and printing menus on 8.5 x 11 is a wise move so they can update menu prices as needed. Next time we'll try the breakfast menu and see how it goes.

Our car club was quite happy with Waterloo Ice House using their "patio" area since September of 2018. One meeting a month, usually the third Monday. Initially, managers were a delight and easy to work with. Myself as the President making initial contact. The rest of 2018 went smoothly; even letting them know the dates our club would not dine there so they could have the space available for others. We did not have a January meeting, but at some time I contacted (via phone) and stated the dates that Tejas would be there. Well, somehow they lost ALL that. In May we arrived to see our meeting space taken by another group. I immediately notified the manager on duty, and my group reluctantly sat in the main dining area. It took 20 minutes for anyone to get our drink order. Diners that arrived after our group were served first. Meanwhile, I've got 15 normally happy diners shaking their head. Some even left. Management didn't offer to take off any percentage of our tabs. OH, and we politely moved our meeting away from their casual diners so they would have to here me bellow about cars and events for 30 minutes. Follow up from the GM Tonya was pleasant at first promising it would never happen again and Waterloo would be fixing the scheduling issues including a breakdown in management communicating about the groups that have events scheduled there. On the Saturday before our Monday meeting I get an email asking us to move to the dining room where we reluctantly got stuffed last month. Tonya, not only NO but hell no. Our group was there LONG before one of your absent minded staffers told the North Austin Democrats they could have that space. Promises to make it right...This is how you make things right? Well Waterloo, we're zoom zooming outa there. Also, we will be finding a new BOD meeting spot as we usually have those at the 360 location. EDIT: My group is eating pizza in the parking lot as I type. No reason to give these folks another penny. UPDATE! Waterloo called the cops on my car club even though they were in an adjacent parking lot minding our own business. Manager who called made us sound like drifting tire smoking 4 wheel Hells Angels. The cops were polite and asked to never return. THAT'S FINE BECAUSE WE WEREN'T COMING BACK!

All good for happy hour but when your check is $10 and you give a $20 and they ask if you want change?? Stupid and poor training...

My first time going here. We ordered fried pickles as an appetizer. I had the Texas Philly sandwich. If was so tasteful! The service was on point!

Waterloo is a solid chain I still somehow how forget about. My first time at this particular location but the experiences tend to be consistent. Waterloo has great, attentive staff. They make sure to check-in on you and keep your coffee topped off. While I've had other stuff, one of my go-tos is chicken and waffles. It comes with a generous serving of cinnamon butter. The syrup is pretty meh, and doesn't go well with the chicken and waffles. The waffle is pretty ordinary, which is kinda sad. But the chicken! Nice crust and chicken has the right amount of moisture. The chicken is delicious and above average. I recommend this particular location

Came in for the Wednesday night steak special a friend told me about for what I thought was going to be a lot less than $23 a plate. No pricing for this special anywhere on their website or paper menu. Considering Texas Roadhouse is a good baseline for steak and potatoes the $23 Waterloo Ice house steak special is NOT SPECIAL AT ALL. Simple marketing ploy... well you got me. less than a half inch thick and get it only one way, not your way. A well done hockey puck. If anyone has been in the military you will understand this reference as to the quality of the food... the NY strip was a decent chow hall steak. Don't waste your money here.

I don't cook much. Occasionally, I'll cook homemade for a birthday party I give but not this time. I got up on the day of the party and was so happy I'd already arranged for everything with Waterloo Ice House Burnet Rd. I emailed the party guests in advance a link to Waterloo dinner menu and asked them to let me know what they wanted. I asked the two birthday girls to each pick an appetizer. I organized all the orders and went to Waterloo and gave everything to the great manager James and asked if it could all be ready for pick up the next day at 5:45 pm. He said for sure. He told me I could also have ordered online with an advance pickup time but he went ahead and entered everything for me. I paid before I left. It was perfect! One of the party guests picked the food up on the way and it was even hot when he got to the party. Everyone enjoyed the food!! Chicken tender platters, salmon salad, waterloo salad with chicken, Texas Tortilla Fish Platter, Fish Sliders, fried mushrooms (my pick!), nachos, catfish bites. A perfect spread for a birthday party. We were all really full at the end so I packed up all the leftovers in the containers they came in and sent them home with the guests. It may have been a little more expensive than the checkout bill at Central Market for home-cooked but not a whole lot. One suggestion. I'd really like recyclable to-go containers!! It's Austin, after all. Thank you James and staff for contributing to a great birthday party!

Sarah was great about accommodating our large group. Courteous, fast and the food was delicious.

My 78704 slider was mid at best. The sweet potato fries were nothing special. I'm glad there's indoor seating, but there is a particular cleaning product (or maybe it's the pink hand soap in the restrooms) used by restaurants that has a sickly sweet smell that is just nauseating. I appreciate a clean restaurant but when I can smell that cleaner over everything else, it affects the way food tastes and gives me a terrible headache.

Never disappointed... My wife says the onion rings bring back good childhood memories. Says they taste EXACTLY like the OR from Simco's on the bridge in Mattapan, MA. Good job.

Wow! What great service! Last night we came in as a large group after a basketball game. Every table was full as the other team went too. They were short staffed but worked through our group with grace and the service ended up being truly amazing. They earned some returning customers for sure!

opps- we read the menu and nothing really called to us, but we looking for 'comfort food' rather than the Beer and Burger fare. The fish sliders were quite tastee but very messy to eat. Upon entering it says seat yourself so some waiters are over seated and find it difficult to provide good service. Well we tried it - but this is not for us....

The is place is getting back in the groove again! I've been here several times during Covid. Precautions are up. Table service is back! Food is exceptional! Breakfast tacos are made to order and filled to the brim. Fish tacos are so crispy and tasty. Onion rings are some of the best in town. Today I noticed there winter cocktail offerings. I'm going to go back to try those out. Yum yum!!!

This was one my husband and I's favorite places to eat when we lived up in North Austin. Classic, home style cooked food and atmosphere that was always good and we'll made and nice people working inside. We loved it here.

Breakfast tacos and plates are great! We love this place. Everyone is super friendly and food is amazing. Would love more coffee options, but I understand it is not a breakfast place. We just love it here
