We booked through Hotels.com for the weekend of April 5-7, 2019 to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. It was $233/night for a standard king, pretty pricey to me, but we enjoyed our stay very much. I called earlier in the week to let them know we were coming for our anniversary and to request a room on the top floor. They made a note of it and to check back the same day to see what they had available.
We arrived and checked in Friday night around 6:30. Parking garage had ample parking. Lobby is very tiny. We were greeted by a professional young lady, but not really friendly, as she didn't smile during our interaction. She ensured that we had a top floor room and gave us our room keys. We got a welcome bag of snacks: peanuts, granola bar, and 3 pastry claws. She verbalized the hotel WiFi to us, but I think it would be easier as a courtesy to write it for your guests.
Elevator is a bit slow, but functional. I didn't see any stairs. We were given room 308, which had a nice bay window view of the street and partial ocean. Room was clean, modern, pillow top bed was comfortable, bathroom had a single barn-style sliding door with a glazed glass. I always check for bed bugs and they passed the test! I didn't see any. Our king room had a stand up shower, but I was hoping for a tub. No biggie. I love how the toilets conserve water! Flush up for bowel movements and flush down for urine. Bathroom came with a vanity mirror, hair dryer, and your usual bathroom products. I really love how their bar soap smells! The barn door slides to cover the closet if it's open to the bathroom. The carpets felt really plush and clean. The side tables were spacious and had roomy drawers (also quiet closing, if you try to slam it, it slows and closes quietly on its own), each bedside sconce had an on/off button and adjustor to dim/brighten the light. Nice touch if I wanted to stay up to read a book. Each side table, the TV stand, as well as the alarm clock were equipped with charger outlets for your phones and Apple products. Be careful moving the alarm clock because I think I accidentally pushed the button, it went off and woke us up at 6am! The room also came with a desk chair, 2 lounge chairs, a small spherical table in between, Keurig machine, and a fridge. As with many hotels, walls are thin, but I always bring my own ear plugs to block out sound. Hubby said there was an annoying bird making noise in the morning, but not the fault of the hotel.
I called down to reception because it wasn't the top floor as I requested. There are 4 floors in the building. Her excuse was all the rooms on the top floor have no view and all the ones available were double queens. Not true because I've seen pics on here where it says a 4th floor room and it had a pic of a bay window. No need to lie, I used to work at a hotel. Just say all the king rooms on the 4th floor are taken. I didn't want to take up a double queen room with just the two of us, so I didn't want to be THAT type of customer/guest!
We didn't get to use the 2nd floor fire pits and chair area. This hotel is centrally located and walking distance to everything. There's Sea Harvest next door, which we didn't get to visit, but always looked busy. We needed to get water and milk our first night, so we walked to CVS, which was only the next block away, pretty much across the street diagonally! We even walked to our massage treatment at Monterey Day Spa, only 3 blocks away! On our walk back, we discovered Cannery Row Antique Mall, only 1 or 2 blocks away! I spent 3 hours there, and when hubby had to poop, he walked back to our room and came back to the antique store no problem! You can even walk to Starbucks and many other places nearby! We walked on the trail our last morning to Fisherman's Wharf to get clam chowder. Only a mile there and then a mile back.
Service was great because my husband called down to request more coffee pods, as we only had decaf, and they came up right away to bring it! I don't even think we waited 5 mins!
Checkout was smooth. The lady at the desk had a smile and was very courteous and friendly! My only negatives about the place are the parking fee for $16 /day, and the fact that they don't have a microwave. I wish they had a microwave to heat up our leftover food. I'd stay here again, but because of those, I'm more likely to hunt for other hotels first that do have a microwave and free parking before considering Wave Street Inn again.
