The Newest Restaurants In Chicago

"Flying in the face of the omakase trend, the sushi rolls at this Logan Square spot are only a la carte. Besides classics like spicy tuna and crunchy salmon, Wave Sushi & Sake has a few specialties involving truffle honey and fried onions, plus dishes like donburi and chicken karaage." - john ringor, veda kilaru

Delicious appetizers! Good quality sushi and cocktails! Nice ambiance for casual dining or intimate date night. Service is always friendly and welcoming. Parking is a bit difficult at the busy intersection, but plenty of street parking a bit further down.

I love Wave Sushi - they have an incredible happy hour, you can eat a dinner for less than $20 per person and leave full. The staff is very friendly, and even not at HH the sushi is reasonably priced, especially compared to other spots close by. If you’re looking for a solid sushi spot with friendly staff and a nice interior this is it. I’ve done takeout several times as well, and the food is packaged with care and holds up well on the walk home. I’m not usually a tofu fanatic but their crispy tofu is life changing - a must try!

Disappointing chirashi with thinnest sashimi and lack of variety The website photos suggested more generous cuts and a greater variety of fish, but the chirashi I received was underwhelming. The portion was just slightly larger than a woman’s hand, and most disappointing of all, it came with only six slices of sashimi so thin you could see the shiso leaf through them. When sashimi is sliced this thin, it lacks the texture needed for a satisfying bite and is easily overpowered by the rice (throwing off the balance of flavor). Presentation and proportion are essential to good chirashi, and unfortunately, this missed the mark on both.

The set bento boxes for lunch are really worth the piece. The quality of the food and the friendly staff walked my friend and I through the menu to get the best dishes! I would say that wave sushi and sake really is a hidden gem here in Chicago!

Fresh sushi, excellent cocktails, and top-notch service. As parents of twin toddlers, dining out can be a challenge—but the staff here made it a breeze. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and even brought out toddler utensils for the kids. It made a huge difference. We’ll definitely be back!

Food was absolutely delicious. Drinks were great as well. The service lacked a bit. It was not busy at all, but our food came out well before our drinks, and then our drinks came out over 5 minutes after the other. Definitely not a deal breaker. And will come back again.

Google
Stopped by their soft open for dinner last night and we were impressed by how good the sushi was for the price! The cocktail and sake we ordered were also fantastic. The inside of the restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service was attentive. We will be back, especially for the Spicy Bluefin roll! I cant wait to see what else they add to the menu when they fully open!

I had an amazing experience at Wave Sushi & Sake! The Dragon roll is hands down my favorite – the flavors are perfectly balanced, and the presentation is beautiful. I also tried their Lychee mocktail, and it was the perfect refreshing treat to pair with the sushi. The atmosphere is inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Had dinner here on a Friday evening and the food did not disappoint. Some honorable mentions: truffle tuna, spicy bluefin, and tuna shiitake carpaccio. Truffle tuna shareable was very truffle forward and the perfect starter for two. The spicy bluefin specialty roll was fresh and the wasabi sauce added a nice kick of spice. Tuna shiitake carpaccio was well balanced and refreshing. The cherry blossom cocktail was to die for, not overly sweet, and complimented the meal well. The ambiance was cozy as well, perfect for a date night.

Yelp
Started with Sapporo and hot sake, it was a good size. The madai chili had an amazing flavor with a kick of heat, not too hot. The service was great, checking in on how the food was or what else I may have needed. The ambiance was cute and quaint, my favorite part was actually the music!! It would be anywhere from 80s-00s music done in a light jazz. Good spot for a date or friends to meet up.

Yelp
Great taste, but not the best display. I went with a couple of friends looking for a place to enjoy drinks and dinner and Wave certainly delivered on flavor and service. I will say that the food and drink itself looked a bit cheap for the price point it was at. In my opinion, the sake-tini tasted like a regular fruit punch and liquor combo. If you're looking for a drink, I recommend just a regular sake to share. I would come back, but not before trying out all of the other unique places Bucktown has to offer. -AT

Yelp
Just tried out this new neighborhood gem the other night and was more delicious than my expectations! Went for a birthday celebration with a group of friends and the service was great! Also would be a cute place for date night. They have a fully loaded bar and great cocktails including the lychee julep and clover club. The truffle shiitake roll is loaded with flavor and the chicken karage and shishito peppers are great appetizers to order. The carpaccio is fresh and tasty. A must try!

Yelp
Had a great time here! Sat on their patio; service was great. Ginger salad hit the spot. Solid happy hour options. Good spot if you're local and craving sushi!

Yelp
Hands down some of the best sushi we have had in Chicago! The options were amazing, and the fish had amazing flavor and it was fresh. The service was fast and the atmosphere is great. The truffle tuna is out of this world!!!

Yelp
Just tried Wave Sushi for the first time, and I'm blown away by their delicious rolls and friendly service. Love the atmosphere and decor, but most importantly the food! The sashimi carpaccio was so good I forgot to take a pic. Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood. Very friendly staff and the food, wow. They're not the typical Japanese place. No sushi bar. There is a bar to eat or drink at but also plenty of tables. They are extremely attentive and are very available for any needs. Varied menu but also not too much to be overwhelmed. I had two rolls, spicy bluefin and spicy tako with edamame and a salad to start. Very fresh and tasty. I also had mackerel sushi and shrimp tempura. Also really good. Ordered a bottle of sake. I expected a 325ml bottle but was brought a full 720ml bottle and brought home what was left. Thank you for a great meal. Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Been walking past for some time and it's finally open. The space is beautiful. Service was great and sushi is some of the best I've had, especially the yuzu madai carpaccio. I'll be back!

Yelp
Decided to check this place out on a Friday night after patiently waiting for it to open. Service was great! The interior bar and decorations are beautiful, and the food was delicious. The menu is compact but the dishes they serve are creative and well executed. The Truffle Sake roll was my favorite of the three we tried. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
First time here, very pleased! We got the crunchy salmon, spicy tuna, the wave and a few other rolls. Great portion size, very fresh and friendly staff! Love the outdoor seating as well that's dog friendly. Will be coming back!

Yelp
We have been waiting for this place to open since we saw the initial sign- we walk by it every day. The food was absolutely delicious. A lot of different options other than your typical sushi place. The madai carpaccio was so bright and airy and the truffle tuna was great. For rolls, we ordered the Dragon, Negi Hamachi, Truffle Sake, and Kani Delight. They were all great and we would order again in a heart beat. Service was also lovely. Highly recommend to give it a shot!

Yelp
This food is amazing!! I've lived in the Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood for over 5 years and we've been needing a great sushi spot. Wave Sushi doesn't disappoint! The service is exceptional and they're already a neighborhood spot in my heart. Come try the fresh sushi and amazing happy hour deals!

Yelp
Was waiting for this place to open up. Met Adam the owner during a take out order and he was kind and considerate. Sushi was great and came back a week later with my wife. Truffle Sake role is my favorite along with the Spicy Blue Fin
