Dropped in on a rushed morning, had no time to make food. Asked if they had anything prepared on the go for my daughter. In which he did not. This story has a happy ending. He mentioned they're a freshly made on the spot type of place. Asked me what I liked quickly made her a breakfast burrito. He was so quick I had to leave a review. When I'm saying he saved my life and I didn't have to be extra late.. ahem! Weird wave is the place for you to go. Food fresh. Atmosphere cute set setting. Owner sweet, fast, professional. Don't skip definitely make the stop. You won't regret.

Today I decided to try this cafe for lunch. I had the burrito which was super tasty. The menu is small but so far I loved the burrito. The girl who helped me was very nice and patient, I will definitely have to go again. Willing to try a chai or latte or whatever I feel like drinking. Personally I recommend this place to anyone working or just to Hang out with folks or girlfriend, is a lovely place with live plants to chill. I love the monstera on the top at the entrance

Feels like an old 90s style coffee joint. A fun find in LA. The girls working there were sweet and patient. The music jazz and folk blues made me smile. Definitely worth a stop if you want to have a good cup of coffee and a vibe.

This is a cute little coffee shop that provides this area with the best cup of coffee. And the breakfast sandwich is quite good too. Service was efficient and I was on my way.

Weird vibes. Weird customer service. Milk alternatives and protein additions add up. Two drinks and two burritos were STEEP. $55 🏴‍☠️ Burrito was good tho.

Sweet God. If you haven’t had the breakfast sando here, you’re missing out. First off if comes with avocado and is customizeable. I’ve been here 3 times in the last week and have had this sandwich 3 different ways and it’s still amazing. The vegan pastries are so good I didn’t realize it was vegan. Honestly this is what my mouth has been missing.

The coffee is good here! Have had it twice and no complaints. Only complaint is parking sucks lol but this place is worth a try :)

Great little coffee spot! They know how to make a latte that's for sure. Quick service considering only one person was working, nice to go counter outside and sidewalk patio.

The coffee beans are very good here. They're not inconsistently roasted. It's very difficult if not rare to find light roast anywhere because of the meticulous process of roasting light beans. If you notice, most places and stores are mostly dark and medium roast because they can't do it right.

I've been getting these guys delivered at work pretty frequently lately as they are close quick and delicious. I've had the breakfast burrito before and it's pretty good but the breakfast sandwich is my absolute fav. The bread they use is soooo bomb and they have a spicy jam on it that I am obsessed with. Coffee is also delicious, i started out always getting the iced latte, then I got stuck on the iced mochas but now my star is the iced vanilla latte. Everything I've had from here has been amazing!

First of all Matcha is Great! Customer Service was the best, Cashier/server were great I asked if matcha was sweetened or not she said it wasn't but could make it sweet for me by adding honey, I accepted and when she delivered she asked me to try it and if I wanted anything different to make it sweeter to let her know. Once I tried it, it was perfect! I loved customer service as well as I'm enjoying my matcha will most likely stop by on my way to work again! First Timer and loved it I wish I got her name but thank you so much!!

Not the business. The parking is almost non existent but it may have been because it was a Saturday. I ordered a large latte online. Went to pick it up with a slice of banana bread. There was absolutely nowhere to park. Not their fault but no good for someone picking up the order from a car. Great for foot traffic I'm sure. Anyway the guy who answered my frantic call was very kind and came out to my car while I waited in the red. Received a small latte that was cold but I had to get back to work. The banana bread was tasty. Only going back if there's a way to park. Nice folks and a busy place so I wish them well.

good matcha, cute little place, someone bought my matcha for me even though I insisted they shouldn't. service was very kind. Matcha was good quality! outside seating is really cute! parking is difficult though :(

Weird Wave hooked my with their great IG posts featuring some amazing baked goods :) So I've been looking forward to trying this place for a while now. I was not disappointed :) :) I ordered a Latte that was delicious, rich, creamy & just the right temperature. Just a really solid drink. To go along with it I had the Bacon Breakfast Sandwich w/ bacon, fried egg, avocado, mayo & sweet chipotle jam... This sandwich is everything!!! One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had 10Stars! Well, it was the video of them making these brownies that finally made me come in so I had to have one. OMG... This Chocolate Chip Brownies is soooooo good :) :) :) I had to get another one to take home. My only regret was not getting 2 because this one never made it home!! The only downer is the parking, it is street parking only and the area is pretty busy. But trust me a little walk is well worth it for this great shop :) The guys that run the place are super friendly and are truly passionate about what they serve. You really need to cross the river and try Weird Wave. It has a kinda hippie/mello vibe and you will love it just like I do :)

BEST americano i've had since i've moved to LA. the second i took a sip, i literally out loud said "hot damn thats amazing." I was a barista in specialty coffee for yearrsss and firmly believe that an Americano is the true tell of a good coffee shop. I ordered an iced dirty Chai for delivery by mistake. I called the shop on the phone to cancel, and even though there was nothing they could do, the person who answered was very friendly and nice about it. I could tell they were in the middle of a rush (8am on a Wednesday -- that's no joke), but the employee maintained great customer service. The iced dirty Chai ended up being incredible -- not too sweet and i was still very much able to enjoy the espresso in it. 10/10 beverages.

Came here for the first time and I really enjoyed it! The service was great and the cashier was so welcoming. I got a iced vanilla latte and it was really yummy :) the breakfast burritos are also a 10/10! Def going to be coming here more often. The only downside is the lack of parking.

Now I know why this place is called weird. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and I only got half (?) I've never seen that, the flavor was lacking which is also weird since I specifically ordered it for the hot pepper jelly which I've had other places and it's always packed with flavor. Definitely not here. And the iced vanilla latte had like no flavor except for coffee grounds. My friend got a breakfast burrito and it was subpar according to her. I will saw the (half?) sandwich was packed but all flavorless so idk. Save your money.

Stopped by this coffee shop when I had a work visit in the area. I had always seen it and something about it always got my attention. I think it's the outdoor patio area, super cute. Inside there is plenty seating and when I went it was pretty slow so it looks like a nice place to work from or study at. The young girl at the counter was very sweet and helpful, great service. I ordered a vanilla oat latte and the coffee was great. I haven't tried the food but will be back for that. I actually input my number and got a reward for a free pastry, yay! Also the bathroom was decorated cute/funky/fun. I will be back!

Really great little coffee/brunch spot. It seems hidden but the people that work there are very friendly and nice. I ended up getting a latte and told the Battista to make me something not on the menu. It's absolutely excellent. I don't know what it's called but it was a great experience. I would definitely come back.

Delicious coffee, I had an Iced Vanilla Latte. The service was fast and friendly. You can sit inside or outside. I loved the inside, it was small and cozy with library vibes

Got two different coffees and both were mid 2/10. On the other hand I got their chipotle jam sandwich pretty good 7/10. Service was relatively fast they had cool paintings on the wall pretty small place though. More of a come and go

I ordered a vanilla latte with half the vanilla syrup, and they made it regular. That wasn't the worst thing about it it was that they charged me extra to make it right. I also got a scone and it wasn't anything special. I ended up paying $15 for something that wasn't good. Plus the parking is horrible.

This spot is ideal for grabbing a coffee and some desserts. The staff is incredibly friendly. I'm fortunate to have visited before 2020 when they had an indoor dining area with video games. The outdoor space is pleasant, though a bit noisy from traffic; everything else remains the same.

A local favorite of mine, grab an iced latte and sit down to relax by their art gallery and enjoy. The weird wave crew has always been friendly and genuine. You feel right at home, no rush, no hurries. Love this spot! Check out their patio, awesome addition. C'mon, come give a wave to the one-eyed octopus. Peace, cafe, and love.

Stopped by this coffee spot to pick up an americano before I wait in line for my booster shot at Lincoln Park. They have a couple of tables out front and you can order from the window. Cute spot and friendly service! I also ordered the cinnamon raisin bread-- so good! Will be back!

Perfection. Waiting in line, I see in the window a bunch of famous cookbooks. I thought, " Oh hmmm, maybe this is a clue that they seek perfection in food. There are millions of secrets to making good food. It is a journey to discover them all. I think Weird Wave Coffee is on that journey. I have been making the rounds to every coffee shop in the downtown area. I found a mix of good and bad people. Some were friendly and efficient, others downright mean, arrogant and greedy. Some had exceptional coffee and some exceptional baked goods. It was hard to find that perfect combination of both excellent bread and ideal coffee with a caring staff. You would think it might be easy. They are everywhere in France. Somehow too many miss the mark here in L.A. With one bite of the Weird Wave Cinnamon Bread, I understand this shop is trying to achieve nirvana in bread and coffee. When I received my coffee and bread, it was with a friendly smile and a giggle. Thank you. This coffee shop is not about gentrification. They are about finding nirvana in a coffee shop. I have met coffee gentrifiers. They are assholes and usually out for the money only. I will refrain from naming them here. I am writing this only because I want to see this place continue its reach for bread perfection. I would have loved to try their pizza-please bring it back. I cannot wait to get back to you tomorrow. I want to be in coffee and bread nirvana too. Lovely lovely place. Thank you. I went back, and today the cinnamon bread was lacking cinnamon. It is hard to be perfect. I will keep trying.

Wow!! I can't believe I'm a local and had not tried this place. Let me start by saying "I can't wait! To go back". We had already had breakfast and were looking for a coffee place, yelped and boom! This gem popped up. I'm so, so, pleased and happy to have a coffee space in our community with this quality of coffee and super welcoming environment! We all ordered a vanilla latte (kept it simple) but geez the taste was perfect :) hopefully next time we get to try their pastries. Service was excellent. Very courteous and helpful when asked to put espresso shots to our preference. Again so happy to have this Coffee Brewer in our small neighborhood :)

Felt like the chairs outside could be better. The stools kinda hurt my back but whatever. The plants are a nice touch tho. Music is cool too. Kinda expensive if I'm being honest but they make a good hot chocolate. I wouldn't say that the outdoor seating is classy. I mean it's on the street but it's a nice spot to get coffee. Iv heard their indoor dining is nicer. Definitely would prefer more baked stuff tho I already tried everything

It's a small coffee shop. The coffee's good and they have good food. Their food items are fresh and delicious but small portions. Except for the chicken pesto and noodles. I got that and got full. The folks working there are all nice. I like their outside patio on the sidewalk.

Can't get enough of this spot!! This place puts a lot of love into both their coffee and food and you can tell. The breakfast sandwich and banana bread are my go to every time and I found out they bake all their bread and pastries in house. The young girl who helped me was very accommodating and welcoming. Music made the atmosphere super lovely. Overall my new favorite shop!

I mobile ordered and my whole order was perfect! I ordered over five drinks and they all tasted delicious . the order came in pretty quick and it seems like a great new place around my work community

This is absolutely my favorite coffee shop in la. Coffee always hits. The food is bomb, great quality and everything made in house. The owners and staff are good people. Outdoor seating only but you're surrounded by plants and under a canopy. Aside from the amazing food what really sets this place apart is the down to earth vibe--hard to find in la. For sure my daily driver coffee shop. Can't quite get enough.

Walked in and was not acknowledged by anyone for at least 5 minutes and I think it was a customer that shouted to the back that I was up there. The guy came and helped me and I ordered like normal. Ended up paying $15 for 2 cups of milk basically. The vibe LOOKED cool but when I went in my experience just sucked. I thought I'd give a new (to me) little shop in the area and to my dismay it simply didn't quite match the demographic of the area, service wise and price wise. Just go elsewhere for some coffee.

Awesome hole in the wall coffee shop. One of the better iced lattes I've ever had, and an excellent selection of tasty pastries(I had a chocolate croissant). This place has a super chill vibe, the guy behind the counter was literally reading a book when I came in, and is definitely a hidden gem. They've got some cool artwork hanging on the walls as well. It just feels like a place you could come and relax with a good coffee for ahwile. They also randomly serve pizza, although not on Monday's or I would've had one). Come have a coffee and check it out!

Good food, but weird service - and not in a good way. I've been meaning to try it out for a while... Couldn't go in person because parking was always a challenge. My partner and I decided to order delivery via Uber Eats instead. We ordered a chai, a matcha, two breakfast sandwiches, a scone, and some banana bread. The delivery came with just the food though... The sandwhiche's spicy jelly was such a delicious and unique condiment to add to them. It really highlights the smoky flavors of the bacon. The bread is fluffy and fresh and the avocados were creamy and ripe. The banana bread was melt in your mouth delicious and the scone wasn't dry or chalky! The scone's berry jam was well balanced in it's sweetness and not sacrin tasting like most jams are. Unfortunately, I can't review the drinks because they forgot them! When I say they, I mean both the Uber Eats delivery person and the employees of the store. I know this to be the case because upon discovering the missing drinks, I called the shop to get more information. When they answered the phone, a gentleman answered and sounded... "off." Like, when I tried to figure out who I was talking to... he just reiterated his identity as "weird wave" himself - not the shop. So I'm a little weirded out now, but play along. I say who I am and what happened. He then blithely explained that he made our order himself, had to step out of the store for a bit, and so he put our drinks in a fridge, and allegedly told another associate to take them out once Uber Eats arrives to pick up the order. It appears that other person forgot... To be fair, the Uber Eats driver also seemingly forgot to confirm the order contents which isn't acceptable for someone who was just tipped 10$ for a 9 minute drive from the shop to our home. While some of this probably sounds innocuous, it was the way the guy represented himself over the phone that's made me doubt this place... I hate to speculate, but frankly, he sounded like maybe he was...eh... "high"? Even if he wasn't, his behavior was still reminiscent of someone who's acting a little bit giggly or silly after getting "stoned." It was, and I truly say this without trying to be ironic - a *weird* experience. Moreover, he never apologized or said sorry, he did however sort of casually offer me a free drink coupon if I drove down there to pick them up. Maybe I'm off Basenotes, but I just got a strange feeling from him, and decided it wasn't worth it to go down there. First impressions are everything, most people don't return after having a bad experience somewhere they've never been before. I'd like to go try this place again, but I'll go in person next time. If I do, I'll be sure to update my review at that time. It seems like I'm in the minority from the largely positive reviews. Hopefully I can have the same good experience most folks have had next time... Good luck!

Weird Wave is my favorite Cafe. I love their coffee and the breakfast sandwich. Owners and employees are easygoing. The outdoor seating is inviting and quirky in all the best ways. It's clear that their joy is providing the best ingredients. I can't wait to try the new lunch menu.

I absolutely love any business that works this hard and put so much love into their products. Stepping in, you instantly feel welcome, appreciated and at home. Love the vibe and feel to the place, good vibes all around. The menu is small, but covers the bases, we both really enjoyed our mochas, again local coffee, local pastries, even the fruit on hand is from a local vendor, love love love this. Prices are affordable, seating limited, plan on taking it to go. Great addition to the area, I hope they do well and wish them all the best, highly recommended!

So this coffee shop, THE shop that's been the at the center of the Boyle Heights anti-gentrification angst, was the rendezvous point for my elicit paraphernalia handoff (aka Hasbro BAF Hulk parts). Very nondescript from the outside, somewhat grey (in color) on the inside, but I was warmly welcomed by a chap sitting at the bar across from the counter. I (wrongly) assumed he was the barrista, until the actual one (the owner) came out from the back. As I was ordering a vanilla latte (really great tasting if light on the vanilla), a local came in selling fresh churros. The owner bought a few offering one to me the guy at the bar (whom he knew by name). I would have bought a pastry (which looked tempting) but the fresh and free churro had satisfied my need. We chatted briefly about how things are currently in the 'hood. I made my deal and left. If I lived around there I'd definitely frequent. Had a good, chill vibe and the owner was cool. If I'm ever back there I'd stop by!

Sandwich was good but it's only 1 slice of bread cut in half. I thought a sandwich was goodness in between 2 slices of bread! I guess if you cut it again it's technically 2 matcha latte was tasty as well

Was surprised to see that this place is still open, and not surprised that they somehow got my original review deleted when I went to update it. The coffee is still bad, and there are better options in the area. This shop is totally out of place, and I wish the owners would find something better to do.

Background on Coffee Mission: After 3 years, I can finally say.... I am done exploring coffee shops at quicker rate. I have finally reached my 100th Coffee Shop Review. Along the way, I have gained a lot of wisdom about coffee and got to know a lot of these brilliants minds behind these great coffee shops. Lets end this journey with one last hoorah with Weird Wave Coffee Brewers. Background of shop: With any outsider in a community, there will be conflict when you move in. Prime example is Weird Wave Coffee (Promotes peace and love) and the Boyle Heights community (Anti-Gentrification). With time, wierd wave and boyle heights will be peachy keen. Before going, I felt very nervous in a sense that I would be confronted by a protestor. When I went, the moment never came. All I saw was friendly familiar faces from nearby shops waving to the owner as they walked by. Credit Cards: Accepted! Coffee Program: Heart Coffee from Portland! Location/Parking: Located across the street from King Taco. Meter parking can be had along Cesar Chavez. Free parking can be found in the rear of the shop and on Cincinnati St. Ambiance/Decor: Great place to have a cup of coffee and catch up with friends. Modern wooden bar seats along the wall and facing the street. There's also art work on the walls also. Love the coffee bar area! Coffee: $2 for a cup of Heart Coffee! What a deal! Normally, a cup of Heart Coffee runs for $3.50 to $4. Loved the quality and taste of the coffee. Pastry: They offer pastries from Homeboy Pastries. That day, I got the almond croissant. It was flakey and had a good amount of almond flavor. Yummmmm! Definitely a great place to get some heart coffee and pastries for cheap ($2.50)! Give them a chance y'all!

THE BEST CHAI HANDS DOWN!!! Just left this amazing place and I just about chugged my chai. Such great quality. I'm a mega coffee/Chai lover and this seriously made me smile. Even my hubby that isn't a chai drinker loved it. Also, the breakfast open face sandwich is to die for. It's just perfect for breakfast. There was a party in my mouth with all the flavors mixing. The service is great. Seriously will be coming back all the time. It was my first time coming here but for sure will become a regular now.

They sell really good coffee and small sandwiches. Kinda wish they had a recycling bin outside but other than that that's really it.

I was really excited to come to get some coffee but then I arrived and the service was not at all that great. There was a customer buying a drink and some beans and when we come up to the window we weren't even acknowledged. I step back and someone's else comes up to the window and the attention is given to her. They clearly saw me and nothing... two minutes later they open the window and don't say anything, expecting me to come up. I ask if they're ready for my order, then just order. I understand people are busy and working diligently but just acknowledge and say you'll be right there or at least say something. Be nice and acknowledge your latinos, not just the white customers.

I first came a first few times when they had just started to open and a bit after that I would mostly get iced mochas cause I love mocha I think I've gotten the brownies too they're all really good but I recently had a breakfast sandwich it was a basic one because I didn't know what to choose there's a lot you can add to it which I'm going to next time I order but holy heck it was so freaking good Probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had Forgot to add I'm pretty shy in talking to people but the staff are super friendly and nice I work pretty close so I texted them through Instagram to order and pick up

Came to try out their espresso and left with: a silky drip coffee, a phat slice of cinnamon raisin bread, and a reliable espresso. On top of this sweet bread, they bake sourdough and other sweets in-house. Will definitely come back to try the banana bread!

How amazing is this place?! It's like they plucked a shop from Venice Beach and placed it right there in Boyle heights. The owner is so nice and passionate about his coffee and pastry making. It's great to see that this isn't just another way to make a living for them but that they are passionate and take the time to present the artistic essence of coofee rught in a cup. So many beautiful layers and aromas fill yours senses. They have beautiful blends that I've never tried and I would suggest trying a few before you leave. You won't regret it! So rich, fresh, tan and smooth... Just the way I like my guys haha. Highly recommend!

Best espresso I've had in LA- the breakfast sandwich is my favorite food item- really hits the spot! Super fair prices too- absolutely check them out.

This is a must try restaurant! The place is so cozy and the food is superb!!! Everything is freshly made even the bread. The service is great too! Everyone is friendly! Definitely going back! So glad we've discovered this place!

For it being in such a low income community their prices are kind of ridiculous. Not until visiting that shop had I been into a coffee shop charging .75 for their drink iced or .75 for your drink flavored like who does that??? A huge bottle of vanilla will run them $4-5 and yet they're charging almost a $1 per drink for it to be sweetened? Plus almost another $1 for ice?? Yeah no that's not ok

Definitely a must try if you're in the Boyle Heights area. I had the vanilla latte and it was great. Also they make their own breads and jams. Oh, the toast with homemade strawberry jam was delicious. I know it's plain and simple but it had a really great crunch and sweetness to it. I recommend it and I can't wait to come back to try more on the menu!

Whether you're here for an off the menu breakfast salad, incredible cinnamon roll or a piping hot coffee...THIS PLACE is so delicious. It's a vibe that reminds me of a little coffee shop in San Francisco with the best baked goods on display. I plan to spend many cheat day mornings here, one pastry at a time.

Coffee is very very bland the 4 or 5 times I've had (large enough sample size). My coffee was actually not even hot this last time and the service towards me was bad the last two visits. Overall I would not recommend it at all,McDonald's coffee is actually better than this (not kidding)

Such a cute neighborhood coffee shop. I've given up on the larger chains so I wanted to try a local spot and I'm glad I did. The barista was so nice and quick, even though she was working alone. There's a television in there and plenty of seating. I only saw street parking available, which can be tricky, but give it a try.
