The 12 Best Breweries In The Hudson Valley & The Catskills 2024

"At some point during your drive through the countryside, you’ll probably turn to your partner and ask, “Should we just move up here? Quit our jobs and live off the land?” You rationalize why it wouldn’t work, but then you arrive at Weiss Ferments, where Erica and Brian Weiss are doing exactly what you were just daydreaming about. Erica brews the beers using old-world techniques, with a focus on farmhouse and belgian style ales, while Brian bakes naturally leavened sourdough with a focus on New York rye. Pair those loaves with the Hold Fire porter or In a Word, Intuitive smoked rye and some small bites like olives, hummus, and spiced nuts. Just note that their small summer biergarten is only open Friday through Sunday." - keith hernandez

This place is amazing. I brought my kids and husband here. This bread is delicious, the owners are very friendly. Aside from their beer, they have. nonalcoholic drinks which my kids loved. There are lawn games as well if you want to make an afternoon out of it. This place is splendid and we come here all the time. I would definitely recommend checking them out!

What a fantastic oasis in the middle of New York State. A friend brought me here and was nor bragging how cool it was!! A wonderful couple has opened their home with this small brewery with EXCELLENT home craft beer and several types of home made sour dough bread. A small delightful menu of small bites served to you in their beautiful back yard. Kudos to you for leaving the city and truly taken to world and making it your own. Thank you!

The setting is very nice, the beergarden is super nice! Unfortunately, the beers are not. I have tried 4 beers they had on tap and it's either stall or completely out of declared style.

Beautiful and quaint brewery. Secluded location - well worth the trip if you are visiting the Catskills. Outside seating only with a small, comfortable tent option. Owners have made a comfortable and gorgeously decorated beer garden with tree trellises, comfortable seating and heat lamps in their backyard. Beer & homemade bread both delicious.

We had such a lovely visit to this hidden gem… delicious beer, a show-stopping ale bread (served warm) with honey butter, rosemary-seasoned olives, and an idyllic atmosphere. The owners were so friendly as well. Wish we lived closer!

Weiss Ferments is a gem for lovers of authentic NY brewed beer and organic artisan sourdough bread. Yes, they do both exceptionally well. NY Rye is the base of most of both their bread and beer. I highly recommend a belgian style blond ale called, “Goldilocks was a Thief”. This brewery/bakery is nestled in the Catskill/Gilboa area. Pro Tip–consider printing out the directions as service may be spotty when it is sadly time to meander back home.

Went to the soft opening today. We tried 2 different tap beers (family meal and poured out) and 2 different food items (hot dip and meatballs). Everything was great. Nice location, very scenic. The owners, Brian and Erica, are very friendly and welcoming, and have big plans for the future. Definitely worth the trip.

So wife and I like checking out small breweries. We are from Ulster County and decided that since we had to return our grand dog to our son in the Delaware County… we would take a nice leisurely drive and stop by a brewery on our roundabout way to Delaware County. Weiss Ferments was the brewery we decided on. TIP - If you plan on going up there FYI - no Verizon service to save your GPS route to help you find your way back home or next stop. You park in a field and walk a short mowed path to the back of a residence that has a large “shed”. DON’T GET DISCOURAGED! This a husband and wife operation - wife is the brewer and husband is the baker. I ordered a Clooney, an IPA (not an New England type) and wife had a lighter beer. Both beers were excellent. I overheard the owner mentioning to other customers that they keep four beers on tap. They also offer a small food menu - sliders, bread with a honey butter, and other things (check out their Facebook page for more). This is an outdoors place so I probably wouldn’t go if it’s raining but the Biergarten was shaded and a cool breeze made the hot day better. When we left we ended up buying two loaves of bread - excellent also! BTW - dogs on leashes welcome and they have WiFi. Will return when I’m back up that way.
