The 38 Essential Berlin Restaurants

"When Wen Chang opened in summer 2021, it usurped the title of “Berlin’s hottest line” from (in)famous nightclub Berghain. The restaurant now has three locations (two in Prenzlauer Berg, one in Friedrichshain), so the lines are less chaotic, but the spicy bowls of hand-pulled Shaanxi-style biang biang noodles are better than ever. The brief menu centers around the silky wheat flour noodles, pulled into satisfyingly thick ribbons, with the perfect amount of spring to each bite. The beef noodles, sauced with soy, vinegar, and Sichuan peppers, are a staple, but every menu item excels, particularly the vegan options." - Tim Forster

Wen Cheng Review - Prenzlauer Berg - Berlin - The Infatuation

"Wen Cheng serves up traditional Chinese hand-pulled noodles, and they’re so popular that there are two locations on the same street that are a 25 minute walk from each other. We like to go to Wen Cheng II at Schönhauser Allee 10, since it’s significantly bigger and offers a better view of the staff stretching out that noodle dough.  It’s walk-ins only so the line can get long—your best bet is to visit right when they open at noon for lunch. Our go-to order is the Biang Biang Beef noodles, made to your desired level of spiciness (the “Asian spicy” option is legit), with a Sichuan Fried Chicken Bao on the side. " - Cindy Brzostowski

Very nice and welcoming staff. Fast service and delicious food. I also loved the small dish offering, focusing on quality over quantity. The spices were also very well dosed and the chewiness of the noodles was great! 這碗𰻝𰻝面好吃了! Plus always a plus to be able to pay with card, which makes this place even better !

The service was good and the staff were very friendly. This chain has several restaurants, and long queues are quite common. However, we chose to sit indoors, and despite the nice weather, we were seated fairly quickly. I found the food to be decent, while the others in my group enjoyed it even more than I did. We tried the tofu bao bun, which I personally think could be skipped. However, the cucumber was a great addition to the rich, oily noodles, it balanced the dish really well. If you haven't tried this particular dish before, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go.

Possibly the best Asian food I’ve ever ate! I was speechless. I ordered the not spicy one (when cheng noodles) with beef and extra aubergine (these are insanely good!). Food was delicious, staff super friendly, food comes super fast! Just perfect! There was a line when I was there, but I waited like 20min tops. I think it depends on the day, but it’s worth the wait.

My noodles weren’t cooked properly, they were still white and hard like raw flour. So I explained that to the staff, and she replaced with new noodles. But while I was explaining, she just took away my undercooked noodles without saying anything, and I was shocked that she gave me a “bombastic side eye” instead of an apology 😂. I mean it’s not my problem that you need to cooked twice. After waiting a few minutes, my noodles arrived, and with an annoyed face she just put it on my table without saying a single word and quickly walked away. Well whatever…. Anyway the noodles were delicious🫶🏽✨🫶🏽✨🫶🏽✨

Amazing noodles – fresh, flavorful, and full of aroma! Make sure to get the cucumbers with your noodles – crisp, refreshing, and the perfect match for the dish. The staff is always friendly and quick, and the cozy atmosphere makes you want to come back. This place is a must-visit every time I’m in Berlin.

Heard a lot about this place. The noodles for me were pretty thick and chewy if I am honest and the prices quite chunky for the portion sizes. That said the food was very flavourful (I had the lamb and cumin) and the staff very friendly and attentive (even whilst a storm blew in as I was outside). You will have to queue if you time it wrong. Good, but not worth all the hype.

Nice restaurant and cute location. Staff is fast and friendly. The noodles were a bit too thick for my liking but still delicious and the seasoning was great! The chicken bao burger was so so good too. Good vegetarian options. I would come back and recommend this place.
