If you've been sleeping on West Broad Bandshell, consider this your wake-up call. This unassuming spot on MLK is, without exaggeration, one of the best places to eat in Savannah. The service is warm and welcoming, in that "you actually feel like family" way that's so rare to find.
On my first visit, I ordered the Union Station Burger, and it immediately became one of the best burgers I've had in Savannah (and I've tried plenty). My colleagues were equally impressed: one had the Shrimp & Grits and raved about it, while another demolished the Rich Boy shrimp po'boy like it was her last meal on earth. We all left talking about how soon we'd be back.
Less than a week later, I returned with my sister for a Sunday appetizer spread, and this is where Bandshell really shined. Here's what we ordered:
* Lil' Romi's Famous Corn Bread Cake - This cornbread was unreal. I don't even like cornbread, yet I've dreamed about it every night since. Sweet, buttery, and perfectly crisped on the edges, it's worth the trip alone.
* Korean Corndog Bites - Mini Korean-style corn dogs with a gooey mozzarella center, coated in crispy golden panko and dusted with sugar. Crispy, cheesy, and everything I hoped for.
* Sweet Potato Fries - Simple but executed perfectly; hot, crispy, and comforting.
* Loaded Jazz Fries - The star of the show. Sidewinder fries topped with bulgogi beef, cheese, scallions, bacon, aioli, and ranch. While eating them, I thought: "this might be the best thing I've ever put in my mouth." Then, in a surreal moment, another customer walked in, pointed at them, and said they had come back just for those fries. That says it all.
* Hand Cut Onion Rings - Just onion rings on paper, but these were absolutely divine. Thick-cut, golden, and perfectly fried, with a house-made sauce that made them irresistible.
* House Dumplings - Crispy and flavorful with pork, scallions, and ginger. Good overall, but if you have to skip one dish, this would be it. Everything else is just on another level.
* Nappa Kimchi Crunch Salad - My sister ordered this one, and it was fresh, crunchy, and layered with flavor thanks to the sesame-lime vinaigrette and vegan kimchi. She ate every bite.
Every single dish impressed, but the real magic of West Broad Bandshell is how they balance creativity and comfort. Their mix of Korean-inspired soul food is genius, and they execute it with care, flavor, and flair.
If I could give them six stars, I would. Just go. I promise you'll thank me later.
