"Mission District Tex-Mex restaurant and bar West of Pecos is closing for good on October 28. The sprawling mechanical bull and taco haven is well-loved for its tremendous and welcoming space, robust menu including stiff margaritas, hatch green chile burgers, and abundant happy hour specials. Dylan MacNiven mentions it was a fun, whimsical, and celebratory place but struggled due to changing dynamics in the Mission’s dining scene and external factors like homelessness and post-pandemic challenges." - Paolo Bicchieri

"West of Pecos owner Tyler MacNiven says he’s thankful to have weathered the winter that took out Ancora, noting that cold months tend to limit foot traffic and tourism. The West of Pecos Cinco de Mayo party in mid-May was the busiest day in the restaurant’s 11-year history." - Paolo Bicchieri

Came here on a Saturday brunch with a reservation and this place has such a great rustic vibe! Good: The ambiance here is so cute - the seating is really nice outdoors with the fireplace. I liked the jackfruit quesadilla since it didn’t taste like meat at all! It had a unique taste and crunchy texture. I also really enjoyed the tacos since they had pork belly that added a sweet tangy taste to the eggs and avocado. Bad: The smothered burrito was kind of bland and really large so we had to take it all home. The cornbread I had high hopes for but was kind of burnt and didn’t have much flavor. Overall I still found this to be an amazing meal because of the unique taste and the great ambiance.

This place is really nice, has great food, great service. I’m a vegetarian and I stumbled upon this place after a dance class nearby and I was starving. The avocado tacos really hit the spot. It has a drizzle of honey on it and that took it to another level. Definitely check it out. They also have a brunch menu with breakfast tacos. It’s also pretty cheap.

Obsessed with West of Pecos and all of their amazing vegan options!! - Vegan Chile Relleno is phenomenal, so filling, and delicious! - Jackfruit Mole Bowl is holy YUM! The fresh tortillas make an excellent vessel for the tender jackfruit, amazing beans, and scrumptious rice! - Double Hatch Green Chile Smash Burger - made with Impossible patties and replace the queso / aioli with their pepita crema 🤌 - Guacamole is to die for - Blistered Veggies with no cheese are delightful! Drinks are the best in the mission!

This place is great. They nail vegetarian options, which I find tend to be bland and often tasteless. They use quality ingredients and put a lot of thought into perfecting every dish I've tried so far (all veggie). This time we had the seasonal harvest vegetable platter (not the exact name, sorry), the vegetarian/gluten free chile relleno, and the veggie puffy taco. All were perfectly cooked and seasoned and picture perfect. This is our second time here and they seem consistently good. One of our favorite spots in Mission for good vegetarian options.

Delicious breakfast tacos and Mezcal. The pork belly taco was unique and crunchy. Service was quick and friendly. The decor and atmosphere were a delight.

Good fusion Mexican place. Friendly and attentive staff. Too bad there's no Pico de Gallo or Spanish rice available. Their cornbread is pretty good with molasses butter on the side

Very solid American Mexican food with great portion and fast service. There is ample of seatings so the wait on a Saturday was minimal. The brunch menu is my favorite. The guacamole was generously large and the pork belly tacos were so filling and delicious.

OVERALL: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 We needed a bit to eat after watching a show at Roxie. This was the only place open late (They were officially closed but let us in as there were still lots of people eating). The food was OK. We had.. - Chunky Guacamole - Was kind of bland - Crispy Corn - Yummy. On the cob with a great sauce. Loved it - Butternut Squash Enciladas - Quite heavy 5-21-2023 - Dinner - Table for 2
