Western Bagel

Ordered a couple bagels to take home and when I cut into one it had small hairs baked inside the bread itself. Unfortunately we had already eaten some so who knows if any of the others had any. Tried calling but they told me they'd get someone on the phone and hung up after a minute. I normally really like this place but this was unfortunately one of those moments where you can't help but feel disgusted. Attached are the photos of the hair, note how some are cooked INTO the bread itself.

Says 3.20 for bagel and cream cheese online... I drive 20 minutes to spot and price says $5 ...star bucks isn't even $5 ...👎🏻. Im never coming back(i didn't buy anything and left).

no sitting area. out of coffee drinks, and don't take cards...so beware. I always bring cash. The bagels are good. Just wished there was a place to sit and enjoy the bagels.

This San Fernando Valley treasure is a true OG This location has been here since 1958. They are open 24 hours and do more than just bagels Sandwiches and cream cheese that can't be beat The parking lot is spacious and there is always a spot available. Do yourself a great service and visit this historical location today!

Love their bagels but they need to start advertising they only accept cash!! Very inconvenient even if they have an ATM machine inside. I don’t want to use your sketchy looking ATM machine. I don’t understand why they don’t take card when I clearly saw a card reader by their register. Also to clarify employee didn’t say their card reader wasn’t working they just said they only accept cash.

My favorite spot for bagels,open 24 hours,lots of flavors,lots of cream cheeses,great customer service!!!!!!

I Usually love the experience here. Unfortunately this was different. First let me applaud the server she was awesome. The bagels good. But the ad on specialty herb cream cheese was my issue. I bought one regular large for about 10 bucks ... but the specialty was 6.95 for a much smaller container. But the real issue was when I opened it. The container from the outside looked full like the regular large but the specialty is scoopedout of the middle not nearly full at all. It is purposely misrepresented. I highly suggest true size containers or don't "make it appear full when it is not.

My Bagel isn't the same with out Spinach Cream Cheese.. Im cryin'.. Can't get used to the other flavors ..

This place is a golden icon still alive from the 1940s. It is open 24 hours a day, is always clean, and is CASH ONLY! I'm from the East Coast and these are as good as traditional bagels get. The service is always fantastic, even in the middle of the night. This was a savior during Covid!!

If you're looking for a "good old neighborhood" bagel store that's been around for decades with a little "good old neighborhood" attitude to fully handle all your desired bagel and cream cheese needs, then you gotta come to Western Bagel! I heard about this place from my neighbors...and I mean ALL of my neighbors from my block. ALL my neighbors who seem to ALL be LA Locals, who apparently have ALL tried their bagels...ALL have said the same thing to me: "You're from NYC?, well you gotta go to Western Bagel and try their bagels".... And boy, am I glad I did... from the moment I pulled into the parking lot, I was greeted with parked cars and bagel deficient customers waiting in line to get their bagel fix! I felt right at home as if I was back in NYC....but without the stereotypical New York City impatience and personal space invasion. That's already a win for me! Now, this place brags of old bagel dough history and their staff working feverishly to replenish the bagels already sold is a sight to see! The bagel cages are constantly being emptied and filled! This place is a factory. I'm not kidding, this location actually makes all the bagel dough that they distribute to their other multiple locations! I felt like a kid in a bagel shop....literally!! They got all the flavors you can need or want...and not one bagel cage was empty....because they are open 24/7 and need to be ready for anything at a moment's notice! How awesome is this?! That's crazy! I couldn't choose on which bagel flavor to get so I got one of each....yeah, I'm crazy...one of each...you gotta try them all right? My favorite? The Everything Bagel! I was reminded before I got there to bring some bagels back for the neighborhood! It's the least I can do since they told me about Western Bagel! Wha?, you got a problem with dat!?" See you here!

If You Come Late At Night You Might Be Able To Catch The Bagels Straight Out Of The Oven (That's When They're The Best) This Is My Favorite Bagel Spot. Service Could Be Better, It Just Either Seems Like There Are New Faces That Don't Know What They're Doing Or Old Faces That Don't Want To Be There. Not Very Welcoming. Plenty Of Parking When They're Not To Busy And The Inside Is Pretty Spacious.

The Mothership of all Western Bagel locations in LA, because this is where all the Western Bagel bagels are born. This is the SPOT and the bagels come hot right off the press, being freshest and most delicious, right to your plate 24 hours a day. The shop never closes and has good and fast customer service and a pleasant to-go style ambiance. My ultimate go-to is the everything with jalapeño bagel, extra toasted, with lox cream cheese and a tomato and served open-faced. It's phenomenal and Godly. As you take a bite, you submerge into a whole new world of taste -- cheesy-crispy initially and pillowy tenderness full of cheese, jalapeño and perfectly cooked dough flavor, as you start to chew. One awesome bagel and hits the spot at any time around the clock.

Excellent bagels great variety. The lox is delicious. All the toppings are outstanding. The fixings are great. Service is wonderful ambience daily field many different types of bagels and different products you can put in them. Definitely pray the place we could try for inexpensive but delicious meal.

TLDR: A quick in-and-out with tasty bagels and a morning cup of joe. Parking is easy, but make sure to bring cash, as they are CASH ONLY! - - - - - - Western Bagel is a nice bite on the edge of town, large streets but not as busy around 11am. I walked in for a quick bite with the everything bagel with lox spread and an iced coffee. They unfortunately don't sell lattes here. :( Additionally, there is no eating area, just a big room with bagel displays, a few snacks, a fridge with spread, and a small self service area. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Decades of experience may have helped them perfect their bagels because sheesh they were good. My only disappointment was that the generous amount of lox spread made it difficult to enjoy the bagel. There was probably enough spread there for three bagels! Although there wasn't iced coffee either, I appreciated that the staff improvised and gave me a cup of hot coffee with a cup of ice. The coffee was as expected, and it really hit the spot! A cup of joe to jog the noggin', bold and lightly bitter. Make sure to bring cash though, as they are cash only!

Western Bagel in Van Nuys is the place to go for the freshest bagels in town. The people here are so friendly too! Big variety of things to choose from the menu.

The fact that there is still a Western Bagel standing is amazing! It's truly survived throughout the years. The shop itself could use an update/face lift but overall the food and prices were great. Please note that this place is CASH ONLY. Free parking available on-site. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back to support this original location!

Sooooo, i couldn't imagine a better bagel spot in the Valley. Always great customer service and pretty cheap prices for what you get. The whipped cream cheese I's the best ever and so is are flavored ones.

The bagels here are good but not great. As more bagel shops open up in LA western bagel us starting to get left behind. But that doesn't mean there isn't a place for Western Bagel, a 24 hour operation is a rare thing for the city. Getting a bagel at any hour of the day is a treat and something to be celebrated. Just make sure to get a bagel that is fresh out the oven and you'll have a great experience here.

Fast friendly service and easy parking ! This place is always fully staffed and is old school , cash only ! Love it - I got a lox sandwich for breakfast and a pizza bagel for snack later

The bagels here are fantastic! Made on site, this is a huge factory location! Service was quick and efficient, plenty of staff working. Prices are fair and they have a great variety of flavors. We enjoy the ones with cheese and bacon a hard meal for a great price! I suggest grabbing a dozen or two as they freeze easilyto be toasted as needed. Highly recommended!

I have so much nostalgia for the bagels here , back when my dad used to pick these up on his way home from work and they would still be warm in the bag. So Friday night at 10pm, I get a hankering for egg bagels - so we get there just as they pulled a fresh tray of egg bagels out of the oven. Omg ...this is last meal on earth level ... $18.75 for a bakers dozen, cash or check only (ATM inside too), open 24/7 (for real) and they do have a variety of neat flavors like strawberry , chocolate chip, cinnamon crunch etc. Worth every penny.

A valley staple! Buying bagels from this specific location is like no other western bagel! Its cash only so make sure you always have that on you, they have an atm inside. The workers aren't always the happiest but they do their job and are attentive, it's open 24 hours and inside smells like fresh bagels all the time! So cute that they had st Patrick's day themed bagels and cream cheese this time around. I love the garlic and herb cream cheese, all of their house made cream cheeses are great!

I truly believe that they do have the best bagels available. Their different tastes are outstanding. The only downfall are their prices for very expensive. Also, I wished they had longer hours.

Western bagel is just so so, not my favorite bagel place around. A decent grab when your car is getting repaired across the street but the menu doesn't have as many options as some other places and nothing in particular stands out. Reliable decent bagel.

Friendly help ready before we were as it was our first time in a Western Bagel shop. The food was prepared promptly for us to take away as all orders are to go as there is no dining area within the establishment, which we knew going in. We both had egg on a bagel, she had a cheese onion bagel and I chose and onion bagel and added pepperjack cheese to my egg with a side of hashbrown patty. It was as expected for a nickel shy of $12 for our order. I'll likely return to try another of many bagels that caught my eye.

Provender: this is a great place to get some bagels. They also offer coffee and other drinks as well as sandwiches, hot dogs, and other bites to eat. The staff are efficient and friendly. Prices: reasonable for bagels. It'll probably be around $4 for a bagel, more if you're ordering something fancy like a lox-type sandwich. CASH ONLY, but they have an ATM inside if you're short on cash. Parking: they do have a parking lot, so parking shouldn't be an issue. People: fun for all. Perks: you're probably going to order food to go and it can get busy, however, the lines do generally go fast. They also have cookies and other stuff, so this is a great place to get a quick bite.

I had no idea a place could mess up bagels until today. Tastes like chemicals. WILDLY BAD. Edit/Update: Dear Western Bagel, I don't appreciate your response. Get off your pedestal. Rude much? Mistakes do happen: Me choosing "LA's oldest" bagel shop. Guess all these daily customers you speak of prefer mid. Incredible Bagels; one of two best bagel shops in LA...and that's saying something . Western Bagel is much more accessible as there are numerous outlets in the valley. Excellent bagels!

Always a delight coming to western bagel, love their selections and their strawberry cream cheese. They have other items but if you're just looking for a quick bagel fix, this place is your go to! Parking so quite small but usually empty's out quick as people do a quick grab and go. Staff is friendly and I believe they don't take card just cash but they do have an atm onsite.

When your friend gives you lox and you've been craving bagels, and it's 9:30 at night, whadda ya do? You head to the Western Bagel factory in Van Nuys for 24 hour bagel cravings. I gave this a shot even though I'm not terribly fond of WB. I have always found them to be on the tougher side. I guess cuz they're western and things are just hardier out this way, but I like my bagels with a bit of chewiness to them. Anywho, it solved me craving and I was surprised to find they also have danish/pastries here. Cash only at this location, but there's a ATM inside for convenience. Cheers! CC

Sulema provided EXCELLENT service. You will never find a better employee than her. I remember before she took my order there was a VERY picky customer who was requesting the craziest things, but Sulema was sweet and patient and provided the most amazing service ever. I will be back!!!

Love love love western bagel. I have been coming for years since I was a kid and it had been a while since I've been here and let me tell you it hit the spot. I had been craving a bagel for a long time and having braces had not helped. I've learned to eat a bagel without breaking a bracket. I got a onion bagel toasted with cream cheese and tomato open faced. Service was amazing and I was in and out within 5 minutes. I'm glad this location is open 24 hours

This is one of my favorite bagel places to come to! One of the only spots to carry egg dough bagels as well as they always give you the right amount of cream cheese. My only problem is the customer service. I'm nervous everytime I walk in to see what kind of service I am going to get. 80% of the time it seems it's a problem that I am there to order and the staff makes it seem like I am putting them out by just making my order. It's just disappointing as I do love the product here, the customer service just keeps me from coming in time to time.

Always my go-to for bagels to go. Friendly staff and excellent bagels. In particular, I like the salt bagels. Getting there is tricky because of traffic and Roscoe Blvd is always a mess by the freeway but worth going. Only accept cash.

I've been a loyal customer for 60 years and have noticed significant changes recently, including smaller bagels and a decrease in quality. Tonight, I received a tub of wild berries; the cream cheese was spread up the sides but dipped in the center where the sticker is placed making it appear as if I received a full tub, what are you people thinking?

I love bagels! Like I can have it everyday with butter or cream cheese or even with peanut butter and jelly but how small are they getting? Smaller than the New York bagel for sure ... see picture I took. Hubby bought bagels from New York and what a difference in taste and in size

First note * it's open 24 hours !!! (At least that's what the sign says) Second note * cash only ! Thirdly * is this place for real ?!?! I mean, it is 7 o'clock in the evening now, it's been raining all day, and people keep walking in and getting bagels consistently. They must be doing something right, I literally made a U-turn and came to scout this place out. Located In an inconspicuous neighborhood, with out so much of a curve appeal but you get out of the car and the smell just hits you !! Yes, yes!!! Fresh !!! The bakery is attached in the back and they are going nonstop around the clock producing amazing bagels. What else can a man need? Super bagels !!!

24-hour places are hard to come by and fun late at night. The corporate location of Western Bagel in Van Nuys is both. They have bagels, pastries, sandwiches, hotdogs, hashbrowns, oven-roasted turkey, grilled cheese, eggs, lox, coffee, and orange juice. The staff there is really on the ball and efficient. I enjoy the atmosphere of the giant tanks of carbon dioxide for the bagel-making process. You have to get it to go because there's no sit-down tables, so I just ate in my car. Located on Sepulveda near Saticoy, it's nice to know that this 24-hour Western Bagel is still here after all these years.

Cash and to go only at this location! Personally I love this location, as it is open 24 hours and sometimes a warm bagel at 1am is just what one needs. It usually is a bit crowded when I go around 7/8 in the morning, but it's always worth the wait.

This is the original location! Don't be fooled by the other ones in LA:). Best bagels in LA County but you gotta buy them here!!!! This New Yorker knows her bagels! They have a variety of bagels and cream cheese to purchase. They also serve coffee and other beverages. You can buy as many as you like. The more intricate bagels are a little more $. Food was dismal and seemed picked over when I arrived at 2:30 PM. Service demanded use cash only on the the in storte atm that the landlord must make a significant payment from. I will continue to use the Chatsworth store as this one is trending down. I gave them back their food and had a nice lunch at home.

I got a matcha latte from this bagel place and it pretty sure it's new because it tasted like ass, the milk wasn't even milk it tastes like watered down matcha I was so disappointed too because it was 6.75 like wtf im leaving a review dead asss because there was also like 5 girls there, all of them talking taking like 5 min to make a single drink bec I was also the only one there and I tried paying fast bec she gave me the drink and when I asked this one girl standing looking at nothing she said, oh she'll charge you" pointing to the girl that took my order but what I don't understand is WHAT ARE U LOOKING AT , INTO SPACE??! " in my head of course because im classy, , all the other girls went to the back after a while bec of silence,, it was awkward idk maybe coming back for the bagels just don't get the drinks and don't expect top tier service here in the middle of the valley thank you Michelle and Stephanie

Bring cash or the cheap owner will charge you extra. I'm not good at the maths, so if someone can help me out and tell me what the grand total of my experience at Western Bagel was... $3.50 ATM fee plus $1.95 service charge from my bank. Two bagels and a small orange juice for $6.70 One of my biggest pet peeves is greed. Here's your 1 star. Gnosh on that, slick. Good bagels, though. I'll say that much. Parking wasn't bad, either.

The only reason why I'm giving this place 5 star was because one of the employees really turned this experience around for me. My roommates came in the night before for some lox sandwich, came home and was a weird odor to them. Called right away and spoke with Jose and assured us to replace the sandwiches the next morning, however, he did say Rosie was going to be there. So I went the next day and had the sandwiches remade. I asked to speak to Rosie and they said that she's busy and can't come out and Jose is off for the day. So the employee, which, I totally forgot her name, which she totally saved them from getting a 1 star said she needed to speak to her manager regarding the replacement. Then I guess the gates of heaven has opened and comes out Rosie from the back and said, ummmm...do you have a receipt? Not even a "hi good morning" I explained to her that we called in yesterday and talked to one of her assistant managers named Jose, she then said, she spoke with Jose and he said it was only 2. But I thought he was off? So...this is awkward. I wasn't really in the mood to get into a verbal argument and so I just took the L and was ok to pay again for the extra 2, but the way she addressed me so aggressively and making it seem like I was trying to 1up a $5 bagel on her seemed super unprofessional. Look, this is your job, as a manager you are supposed to de-escalate the issue not escalate them even more. So I had to check her and said, "is there a problem?" Because she really needed to fix her attitude. I'm not coming into your home and kicking it, this is a place of business so Rosie a word of advice, be professional. Anyway, the employee helping was super amazing and that's why I decided to leave a 5 star. I sure do hope someone in the higher ups read this, so they know I mean no malice, but if when people get too comfortable in their position they tend to act like a God, or in this case a Goddess. So do us all a favor Rosie, get off your high horse and be thankful for this opportunity and take it a lesson. Thanks! PS. I will find out this employees name and will do another review. She deserves the credit. After all Rosie, she really saved you.

Western Bagel is my go to bagel place that is reasonably price and reasonably gives the perfect amount of cream cheese to my bagel. Their service is quick and efficient, they do not disappoint! Though I just grab and go my bagel, they have seating options which makes it suitable for catching up with ol friends.

Not happy with the jalapeño cream cheese! This is the second time they've shorted. What is the problem guys?

First time trying the Italian bagel, it was a nice little pick me up for lunch. Also, this Passion Fruit juice hit the spot! No cards accepted, cash & checks only! So to my Apple payers, it won't work here. There is an ATM machine inside! Giving 4 stars for that ! Other than that, bagel was 10/ 10

Service kind of slow and they only take cash. And the atm doesn't always work despite them saying it does. I wouldn't come here

Open 24hrs and serving fresh/delicious bagels... this place is incredible. Offering a huge bagel variety and various bagel sandwiches, this specific Western Bagel is a bagel lovers dream. I specifically love their cheese bagels (a bagel with cheese melted on top). Friendly staff, clean bagel showcase, and a refrigerator stocked with a wide variety of cream cheese and spreads. This place is a bagel lovers paradise!! (cash only fyi)

Love the bagels, service is good, not a fan of the cash (or check) only thing but it is what it is. The reason I'm giving 4 starts instead of 5 is because I tried the cinnamon bagel chips, take a look at the pics. I thought I'd looked them over properly, but I think the employee gave me a different container than the one I pointed at. Regardless, you can't burn bagel chips to the point of bitterness and then sell them. All byproducts of a superior bagel must remain superior in all forms of said bagel. Also, they bagged the everything bagels with my sweet bagels like my cinnamon crisps. I took a bite of my beautiful cinnamon crisp bagel thinking there was only confection sugar and cinnamon on the outside, but no, I caught some onion bits...and it was sad. On the plus side, this is a 24 hour spot. There's also a nice variety of cheese bagels (cheese + bacon or jalapeño or pizza).

Walked into this business and the first thing i saw was dirty floors, then i walked up to the glass where they keep all the food and if you pay attention the base, mirror rails, and glass itself is very dirty from the inside. Was excited about this place but after what i saw im never going back.
