Small and cozy with delicious fresh bagels that are not burned or over cooked their just right! The staff was extremely friendly! With a big variety of different types of bagels! 🥯 Ordered, garlic, everything and a chocolate flavor!

This was my first time visiting this location as I generally go to the locations in Northridge, Chatsworth, and Granada Hills. I found it cool that this location is open 24 hours. One downside is that I cannot order ahead using the Western Bagel app to earn points, but I’m not sure if the receipt provided will suffice for when I try to add it to the app later. Also, it’s a bummer that they only accept cash/checks as not everyone is comfortable carrying cash. I ended up going to a different ATM to withdraw cash as the one provided in store charges a $3.50 fee. I ordered a turkey salad sandwich on a garlic bagel as it’s my favorite, as well as a garlic bagel with cream cheese. When I opened my container at home, I saw that there were no pickles on the sides, as well as the cheese and onion, but I assume that only the Northridge, Chatsworth, and Granada Hills locations only offer them. The sandwiches seem to be made a bit differently at the 24 hour location (pictures of the same sandwich from 2 locations posted to compare), including the presentation. Staff were friendly overall, however, I think I will stick to my usual locations moving forward.

Western bagel has been a favorite since I was in high school!! I’m 44 They have the best bagels open 24hrs! Cream cheese so good For st Patrick’s they have green cream cheese I think that’s so cute!! It's been a while since I've been here. I'm the past I received great service and the bagels the same. Today, not so much. It wasn't that busy and still felt like I was disregarded. I finally just left my cash on the counter and left with the bagels. Which were smashed and not like the past.

At first glance, the place may not look particularly appealing, however, the bagels are absolutely delicious. They offer a wide variety of flavors — don’t leave without trying the egg and bacon one! Takeout service only. Incredibly affordable as well.

Best place in the world to get bagels always fresh. Always. Good always large friendly staff to help been buying here for At least 45 years.

Ordered a couple bagels to take home and when I cut into one it had small hairs baked inside the bread itself. Unfortunately we had already eaten some so who knows if any of the others had any. Tried calling but they told me they'd get someone on the phone and hung up after a minute. I normally really like this place but this was unfortunately one of those moments where you can't help but feel disgusted. Attached are the photos of the hair, note how some are cooked INTO the bread itself.

Open 24 hours so they always have fresh bagels with lots of variety including different cream, cheese cheeses. the downside is they only take cash or check. Who writes checks nowadays anyway. Staff is friendly and move pretty quickly to get you in and out of there. There's no seating area in here which was fine with me as I just wanted to buy a dozen bagels and cream cheese and take it home.

Bought a pizza bagel for my kid and some other varieties. Got back to my kid to give him his pizza bagel, and it was cold... I wasn't watching - and the employee didn't warm it. Or even ask...pizza bagels can't really go in a regular toaster either. So, I guess I'll go home and put the top part on the grill. It's just...it's a $3.90 bagel. A bagel, topped with a slice of cheese and a dollop of sauce. Also bought burnt bagel chips - guess that's my fault too. Idk, just starting to feel like Western Bagel is grossly overrated and overpriced. Instead of feeding the locals "direct from factory" bagels at a reasonable price - selling them at store cost was their choice. And cash only. Western Bagel chose violence when they could've swooped in to be the local hero. Ah well. For those that are just as annoyed, Pop's Bagels is legit. Think about it, for just a quarter more, you can get a decent bagel from a fancy place.

Hear me out. Bagels... in the Val Leigh? Umm yeah, like totally. My bagel-shaped heart fell in yum with Western Bagel years ago. They are simply legit reliable good dense noshes -- one of the more authentically bagel-y textured bagels that ever bagel'd in California history. There may be fancier newer crafty up and comers but Western is da OG. Ya feel me? The history of the biz goes eight decades back, to creative founder and baker David Ustin in NYC. One day, while working, he overheard a union representative say there were no good bagels in California. This motivated his entrepreneurial spirit, and David set out with his wife, Ethel, and two business partners to the Golden State to open up a bagel bakery. When he arrived in October of 1946, he noticed the tastes of the West Coast residents were different than those of East Coasters. He developed a bagel that was softer and chewier than the typically dense and harder East Coast bagel. David's intuition proved right, helping Western Bagel to become "The Bagel That Won The West®". Moreover, the shop he opened at 324 West Pico Avenue in 1947 was the first dedicated bagel bakery in Los Angeles. Western Bagel® re-located to Van Nuys eleven years later. Anyhow, you might have different preferences in your ideal bagel. But for me, this is one of the best bagels you can get either here at the original bakery or at the supermarkets. Fresh from the shop is tastiest of course.

I had such a positive experience at the Van Nuys location of Western Bagel! I rushed in on a Sunday morning to get two dozen bagels for a brunch meeting. The people behind the counter were lovely and so efficient. I was in and out in a few minutes, with 24 absolutely delicious bagels. Everyone at the meeting loved them!

Awesome spot, not sure what the hours are but I went at around 2am and got some delicious bagels. What's not to love?

The Mothership of all Western Bagel locations in LA, because this is where all the Western Bagel bagels are born. This is the SPOT and the bagels come hot right off the press, being freshest and most delicious, right to your plate 24 hours a day. The shop never closes and has good and fast customer service and a pleasant to-go style ambiance. My ultimate go-to is the everything with jalapeño bagel, extra toasted, with lox cream cheese and a tomato and served open-faced. It's phenomenal and Godly. As you take a bite, you submerge into a whole new world of taste -- cheesy-crispy initially and pillowy tenderness full of cheese, jalapeño and perfectly cooked dough flavor, as you start to chew. One awesome bagel and hits the spot at any time around the clock.

TLDR: A quick in-and-out with tasty bagels and a morning cup of joe. Parking is easy, but make sure to bring cash, as they are CASH ONLY! - - - - - - Western Bagel is a nice bite on the edge of town, large streets but not as busy around 11am. I walked in for a quick bite with the everything bagel with lox spread and an iced coffee. They unfortunately don't sell lattes here. :( Additionally, there is no eating area, just a big room with bagel displays, a few snacks, a fridge with spread, and a small self service area. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Decades of experience may have helped them perfect their bagels because sheesh they were good. My only disappointment was that the generous amount of lox spread made it difficult to enjoy the bagel. There was probably enough spread there for three bagels! Although there wasn't iced coffee either, I appreciated that the staff improvised and gave me a cup of hot coffee with a cup of ice. The coffee was as expected, and it really hit the spot! A cup of joe to jog the noggin', bold and lightly bitter. Make sure to bring cash though, as they are cash only!

Tried WB for the first time this week. Best bagels I've had on the West coast. I tried the jalapeño and onion bagels. The jalapeño I had with their regular cream cheese. The cream cheese was so good and the bagel had great flavor, perfectly toasted. The onion I used to make a bagel sandwich at home. I ate it two days after purchasing and the bagel was still soft and flavorful. Would 100% go back!!

If You Come Late At Night You Might Be Able To Catch The Bagels Straight Out Of The Oven (That's When They're The Best) This Is My Favorite Bagel Spot. Service Could Be Better, It Just Either Seems Like There Are New Faces That Don't Know What They're Doing Or Old Faces That Don't Want To Be There. Not Very Welcoming. Plenty Of Parking When They're Not To Busy And The Inside Is Pretty Spacious.

If you're looking for a "good old neighborhood" bagel store that's been around for decades with a little "good old neighborhood" attitude to fully handle all your desired bagel and cream cheese needs, then you gotta come to Western Bagel! I heard about this place from my neighbors...and I mean ALL of my neighbors from my block. ALL my neighbors who seem to ALL be LA Locals, who apparently have ALL tried their bagels...ALL have said the same thing to me: "You're from NYC?, well you gotta go to Western Bagel and try their bagels".... And boy, am I glad I did... from the moment I pulled into the parking lot, I was greeted with parked cars and bagel deficient customers waiting in line to get their bagel fix! I felt right at home as if I was back in NYC....but without the stereotypical New York City impatience and personal space invasion. That's already a win for me! Now, this place brags of old bagel dough history and their staff working feverishly to replenish the bagels already sold is a sight to see! The bagel cages are constantly being emptied and filled! This place is a factory. I'm not kidding, this location actually makes all the bagel dough that they distribute to their other multiple locations! I felt like a kid in a bagel shop....literally!! They got all the flavors you can need or want...and not one bagel cage was empty....because they are open 24/7 and need to be ready for anything at a moment's notice! How awesome is this?! That's crazy! I couldn't choose on which bagel flavor to get so I got one of each....yeah, I'm crazy...one of each...you gotta try them all right? My favorite? The Everything Bagel! I was reminded before I got there to bring some bagels back for the neighborhood! It's the least I can do since they told me about Western Bagel! Wha?, you got a problem with dat!?" See you here!

Excellent bagels great variety. The lox is delicious. All the toppings are outstanding. The fixings are great. Service is wonderful ambience daily field many different types of bagels and different products you can put in them. Definitely pray the place we could try for inexpensive but delicious meal.

Bagels are iconic. New menu items are good. Service is excellent, even if it gets busy. But...they do not accept credit cards. This is a major issue since some of us want to move towards cashless payment methods. The ATM is the biggest scam: $3.50 per transaction. So now my lunch goes from $14 to $17.50!! AND, $3.50 is more than a single bagel. Very disappointing.

I've been coming to Western Bagel for a while, and the food and service have always been consistently good. However, my experience yesterday was disappointing. We visited around 2:30 PM, and the employee working at the counter didn't greet us, just gave us an unfriendly look, which felt uncomfortable. When placing our very simple order (two everything bagels with turkey, lettuce, and mayo), she seemed confused and made odd facial expressions. When we got home, both sandwiches had tomatoes and mustard, which wasn't what we asked for. Normally, I'd overlook that since the bagels are usually great, but the main reason i rated one star was the poor attitude and lack of attentiveness. If she needs to take notes to help her get orders right, that's fine, but customer service starts with a friendly attitude and basic courtesy. She needs to put a smile on her face, it's very simple :)

The fact that there is still a Western Bagel standing is amazing! It's truly survived throughout the years. The shop itself could use an update/face lift but overall the food and prices were great. Please note that this place is CASH ONLY. Free parking available on-site. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back to support this original location!

This place is a golden icon still alive from the 1940s. It is open 24 hours a day, is always clean, and is CASH ONLY! I'm from the East Coast and these are as good as traditional bagels get. The service is always fantastic, even in the middle of the night. This was a savior during Covid!!

My Bagel isn't the same with out Spinach Cream Cheese.. Im cryin'.. Can't get used to the other flavors ..

Western Bagel in Van Nuys is the place to go for the freshest bagels in town. The people here are so friendly too! Big variety of things to choose from the menu.

Went there last night to get 2 bagels toasted with cream cheese. What i ended up with were two lukewarm bagels with the thinnest spread of cream cheese ever. I couldnt even scrape up the cream cheese with my fingernail. Nothing!!! What a waste of $10

The bagels here are good but not great. As more bagel shops open up in LA western bagel us starting to get left behind. But that doesn't mean there isn't a place for Western Bagel, a 24 hour operation is a rare thing for the city. Getting a bagel at any hour of the day is a treat and something to be celebrated. Just make sure to get a bagel that is fresh out the oven and you'll have a great experience here.

Open 24 hours. Cash only, ATM machine on site. Clean inside, but no seats. Parking can get crowded. A good variety of choices. They also serve sandwiches and coffee. They also sell a variety of cream cheese.

The bagels here are fantastic! Made on site, this is a huge factory location! Service was quick and efficient, plenty of staff working. Prices are fair and they have a great variety of flavors. We enjoy the ones with cheese and bacon a hard meal for a great price! I suggest grabbing a dozen or two as they freeze easilyto be toasted as needed. Highly recommended!

I have so much nostalgia for the bagels here , back when my dad used to pick these up on his way home from work and they would still be warm in the bag. So Friday night at 10pm, I get a hankering for egg bagels - so we get there just as they pulled a fresh tray of egg bagels out of the oven. Omg ...this is last meal on earth level ... $18.75 for a bakers dozen, cash or check only (ATM inside too), open 24/7 (for real) and they do have a variety of neat flavors like strawberry , chocolate chip, cinnamon crunch etc. Worth every penny.

I have been getting my bagels at this location for more than 40 years, my recent visit i was thrown for a loop when the bagel professional informed me that it would cost an additional .80 cent per bagel to be toasted. When i first started buying my bagels at western bagel in 1985 a cost of a dozen bagels was 3.75 per dozen now at a-cost of more than $27 per dozen i find it insulting to charge .80 to toast a bagel since the toaster is on 24 hrs a day. Who ever came up with this policy should be fired. Shame on you , i don't know another bagel shop or donut shop or restaurant that charges extra to toast a bagel, shame shame on you. I own a fast food establishment for 42 years our main product are burgers, i do not or will never charge to toast a bun for a burger. Again shame on you.

A valley staple! Buying bagels from this specific location is like no other western bagel! Its cash only so make sure you always have that on you, they have an atm inside. The workers aren't always the happiest but they do their job and are attentive, it's open 24 hours and inside smells like fresh bagels all the time! So cute that they had st Patrick's day themed bagels and cream cheese this time around. I love the garlic and herb cream cheese, all of their house made cream cheeses are great!

I truly believe that they do have the best bagels available. Their different tastes are outstanding. The only downfall are their prices for very expensive. Also, I wished they had longer hours.

When your friend gives you lox and you've been craving bagels, and it's 9:30 at night, whadda ya do? You head to the Western Bagel factory in Van Nuys for 24 hour bagel cravings. I gave this a shot even though I'm not terribly fond of WB. I have always found them to be on the tougher side. I guess cuz they're western and things are just hardier out this way, but I like my bagels with a bit of chewiness to them. Anywho, it solved me craving and I was surprised to find they also have danish/pastries here. Cash only at this location, but there's a ATM inside for convenience. Cheers! CC

Western bagel is just so so, not my favorite bagel place around. A decent grab when your car is getting repaired across the street but the menu doesn't have as many options as some other places and nothing in particular stands out. Reliable decent bagel.

Friendly help ready before we were as it was our first time in a Western Bagel shop. The food was prepared promptly for us to take away as all orders are to go as there is no dining area within the establishment, which we knew going in. We both had egg on a bagel, she had a cheese onion bagel and I chose and onion bagel and added pepperjack cheese to my egg with a side of hashbrown patty. It was as expected for a nickel shy of $12 for our order. I'll likely return to try another of many bagels that caught my eye.

Provender: this is a great place to get some bagels. They also offer coffee and other drinks as well as sandwiches, hot dogs, and other bites to eat. The staff are efficient and friendly. Prices: reasonable for bagels. It'll probably be around $4 for a bagel, more if you're ordering something fancy like a lox-type sandwich. CASH ONLY, but they have an ATM inside if you're short on cash. Parking: they do have a parking lot, so parking shouldn't be an issue. People: fun for all. Perks: you're probably going to order food to go and it can get busy, however, the lines do generally go fast. They also have cookies and other stuff, so this is a great place to get a quick bite.

Sooooo, i couldn't imagine a better bagel spot in the Valley. Always great customer service and pretty cheap prices for what you get. The whipped cream cheese I's the best ever and so is are flavored ones.

Always a delight coming to western bagel, love their selections and their strawberry cream cheese. They have other items but if you're just looking for a quick bagel fix, this place is your go to! Parking so quite small but usually empty's out quick as people do a quick grab and go. Staff is friendly and I believe they don't take card just cash but they do have an atm onsite.

So disappointed. Drove 2 1/2 hours from the desert to get a supply of garlic bagels (2 dozen) only to discover 2 1/2 hours later when I got home the clerk behind the counter gave me sesame bagels (which I could have easily gotten in the desert). I wasted 5 hours in traffic and lost over $50 in merchandise. (He did get the order for a dozen bialy sticks right.) Unfortunately they only take cash at this location which means I can't even complain to my cr card company. Wrote to Western Bagel and can only hope they might send me a correct order.

Love love love western bagel. I have been coming for years since I was a kid and it had been a while since I've been here and let me tell you it hit the spot. I had been craving a bagel for a long time and having braces had not helped. I've learned to eat a bagel without breaking a bracket. I got a onion bagel toasted with cream cheese and tomato open faced. Service was amazing and I was in and out within 5 minutes. I'm glad this location is open 24 hours

Incredible Bagels; one of two best bagel shops in LA...and that's saying something . Western Bagel is much more accessible as there are numerous outlets in the valley. Excellent bagels!

I had no idea a place could mess up bagels until today. Tastes like chemicals. WILDLY BAD. Edit/Update: Dear Western Bagel, I don't appreciate your response. Get off your pedestal. Rude much? Mistakes do happen: Me choosing "LA's oldest" bagel shop. Guess all these daily customers you speak of prefer mid. Now kindly stop gaslighting customer reviews, I don't plan to email you details of my experience: I said it! IT WAS BAD! Worst tasting bagels I've ever had, and "I stand by that."

Sulema provided EXCELLENT service. You will never find a better employee than her. I remember before she took my order there was a VERY picky customer who was requesting the craziest things, but Sulema was sweet and patient and provided the most amazing service ever. I will be back!!!

I mean, it is 7 o'clock in the evening now, it's been raining all day, and people keep walking in and getting bagels consistently. They must be doing something right, I literally made a U-turn and came to scout this place out. Located In an inconspicuous neighborhood, with out so much of a curve appeal but you get out of the car and the smell just hits you !! Yes, yes!!! Fresh !!! The bakery is attached in the back and they are going nonstop around the clock producing amazing bagels. What else can a man need? Super bagels !!!

24-hour places are hard to come by and fun late at night. The corporate location of Western Bagel in Van Nuys is both. They have bagels, pastries, sandwiches, hotdogs, hashbrowns, oven-roasted turkey, grilled cheese, eggs, lox, coffee, and orange juice. The staff there is really on the ball and efficient. I enjoy the atmosphere of the giant tanks of carbon dioxide for the bagel-making process. You have to get it to go because there's no sit-down tables, so I just ate in my car. Located on Sepulveda near Saticoy, it's nice to know that this 24-hour Western Bagel is still here after all these years.

This is the original location! Don't be fooled by the other ones in LA:). Best bagels in LA County but you gotta buy them here!!!! This New Yorker knows her bagels! They have a variety of bagels and cream cheese to purchase. They also serve coffee and other beverages. You can buy as many as you like. The more intricate bagels are a little more $. CASH OR CHECK ONLY! We love coming here for fresh bagels. They are open 24hrs and the bagels are always delicious no matter what time of day. They have lots of different cream cheeses; including a vegan one too which is nice.

This is one of my favorite bagel places to come to! One of the only spots to carry egg dough bagels as well as they always give you the right amount of cream cheese. My only problem is the customer service. I'm nervous everytime I walk in to see what kind of service I am going to get. 80% of the time it seems it's a problem that I am there to order and the staff makes it seem like I am putting them out by just making my order. It's just disappointing as I do love the product here, the customer service just keeps me from coming in time to time.
