Hadn't been here in a very very long time but we had a company team building outing and this was place that was picked. Shoes were old balls too. Didn't see any updates to the place and it's been well over 16 years since my last visit. Game room was seriously disappointing. A few crane games and one Terminator game and it was out of order. SMH. We did have a lot of fun bowling but had to stop more than once so to lane issues. If you have your own ball and shoes and not into video games then this place will probably due.

We came for the bowling alley but all we got was an alley cat. From the moment we stepped through doors we were blasted by the cold shoulder of the employee named Jade. Simple and polite questions were met with a deadpan stare and the rudest tone. If this was the extent of our interaction I could have dealt with it not bothered with a review. BUT we came to bowl this evening for a birthday party. We were told earlier this week that reserving lanes wasn’t possible, but if we arrived early they would try to accommodate us. We arrived an hour before the party and saw 4 lanes available - perfect because we only needed 3. Jade told us 2 of the lanes were reserved…we thought that wasn’t allowed but okay fine. While we were bowling for the next 2 hours the lanes next to ours remained empty. THEN WHO STARTS PLAYING?? None other than JADE! This employee kept 2 lanes closed for multiple hours on a busy Saturday night so she could bowl alone. Truly if she had a modicum of kindness in any of the interactions with our group I might have forgiven the lane hogging. Instead Westgate, I’m sorry to say….one star.

An old, traditional bowling alley (I believe pretty much the only one left outside of on campus and the multi-purpose places like Punch Bowl Social). Decent price with snacks, food, and drinks/bar available. Have come multiple times where there are lane issues which can delay/interrupt playing and have even needed to be relocated to another lane mid-game twice in one visit. Recently went with some family for a birthday celebration and, after bumpers failed to activate for the selected players, were informed by staff that bumpers need to be manually set up and are only done for little kids “smaller than the front bowling pin”. Aside from the technical difficulties, a little lack of modernization, and inability to accommodate bumpers, it is usually a fun time.

This was my first time here and I had a blast! I'm not exactly sure what it is about the place but the atmosphere is so comfortable and capturing. I did not eat anything this day but I did visit the bar. I was not sure what I wanted from the bar but I told the bartender to surprise me and she made me the best drink I had in a while. I still don't know what it is but it was great. The prices were great as well.

Floor doesn't allow me to glide with my plant foot. Nearly snapped my knee in half on my first throw, so that wasn't fun. Came back the next day hoping the floor was just bad on my lane, well it was still sticky. It didn't help that some jerk with his camera phone thought it was appropriate to capture cinematic film of his girlfriend bowling while walking into my lane as I am bowling. Is this what Westgate has become? This is the type of experience I'd expect from an "EVO Entertainment" bowling alley.

Google
Staff at front desk is decent however you really need to do something about the bartender you had on duty Saturday 5/18. She was rude and she was the main reason we left early. West Gate Lanes will continue to lose money if staff does not receive customer friendly training.

Google
My family has been coming here on and off since 2000. It has been 6 years since we last visited, I have been wanting to return, my fam now in San Marcos and one newcomer from Colorado drove up to tag along and we were excited. Fun atmosphere and great music as i remembered, but the girl at the front desk was very rude to my mom after my mom asked a question. It may have been a dumb question to the girl but the attitude and condescending answer was uncalled for and left a bad taste in our mouths long after we left. I’ve worked in customer service for 12+ years, in retail, food and now as a project manager. It doesn’t take much to be kind, especially to my 63 year old mom…

Google
We had a great time only complaint is that we needed to leave bumpers up for every bowler they would ot raise and lower for each person. They have a cozy little bar and great food. The BBQ place is great.

Jodi M.

Yelp
Old skool bowling alley, clean, nothing fancy. Cheep beers and a huge plus is Slab BBQ has a small shop here churning out great food you can take right to your lanes. Came here to get out of the TX summer heat.. 10/10 for the ac.. it was cranking in here! We were walk ins at 11ish and didnt make any resos... it was 30.00 for 6 to play 1 game that included shoe rentals. Not gonna lie the shoes are screaming for an upgrade. Bumpers were only working on a few lanes.. and you could not program to put them up per player.. that either didnt work or their tech was too old? Its a no frills bowling alley at least during the day. We had fun. Would be awesome if they had summer kids pack specials!!

Ben G.

Yelp
this place is an institution, but the only way to play here these days without participating in a league is to wait 1.5 hours. I realize Austin residents are conditioned to wait for things, but this dude does not abide a wait that long to bowl. Out of 40 total lanes, 28 were taken up by a league. The only day of the week when there isn't league play is Saturday, when every snot-nosed kid in south Austin and their parents are there.

Rachael Y.

Yelp
We love coming here for date night during the week, usually have to wait until league night is over. Bar is great! Wish they had more food options.

Thomas Patrick H.

Yelp
League is good, staff is pretty chill, willing to help. Drinks are cheap. As a newcomer to league bowling, some people on the opposite team were totally neurotic during the first game. Yet, I'm still will to honor the "Learn as We Go" mentality to grow as a team. Bottom line = Drop the ego, and if you want total league quality, move to DFW or something like that.

Shama P.

Yelp
I mean it's a bowling alley. It's exactly what you expect. Staff is nice. The music is from when you expect it. They have slab bbq. It does the job. I'm still bad at bowling tho

Beth P.

Yelp
Old school bowling alley, no frills. I was there with a party, we had a great time! The staff on the other hand seemed like they hated their lives... glad I didn't need to interact with them much. I work in customer service and don't understand how so many places have such poor service. Management was weird when our game ended suddenly without warning. I'm honestly not sure what our time limit was but we weren't being loud or wild or anything. Communication seems to be lacking. BBQ they have there is great though! The only employees who seemed helpful or kind worked at the BBQ place inside haha ribs were good, brisket. All of it. Sounds weird for bowling but I recommend.

Jerry B.

Yelp
Sunday morning practice with no A/C means the approaches are tacky. If you don't slide it's okay. But if you're a slider it will wreck a knee. Fix the approaches or turn down the A/C.

Lauren R.

Yelp
We had a pretty fun time for a good price! 2 games and show rentals was less than $15 a person. The staff was a little unfriendly, but we didn't have to talk to them too much so it was okay. Tons of parking. I would recommend not using the QR codes on the seats for Slab bbq, just walk up to the window to order food/ drink. They don't use the QR system anymore in our experience. Will probably come back for fun, get out of the heat, and not spend way too much.

Panama W.

Yelp
My family and I visited Westgate Lanes as an outing. We had fun. Lanes were nice and they brought us our food we ordered timely.

Joseph T.

Yelp
Had a great experience here the staff was wonderful and has the feel of the old time bowling alleys as an older person. I appreciate that while I like taking my grandkids to play the video games I'm not crazy about all the frills and stuff when I'm trying to play some bowling love it keep it up

Samson S.

Yelp
One of our favorite bowling lanes in south austin. Friendly staff, always an open lane and the black light nights are a ton of fun. They have been here on WestGate for many years now. We have been going there for almost two decades. They have a coffee food trailer out front, a snow cone trailer there as well along with Slab BBQ Inside. If you have a free minute from work and want to have a good time look no other than Westgate lanes in south austin.

Polly B.

Yelp
the staff and mainly the blonde bartender are awful. My partner is a 23 year old male and obviously has a valid ID. the bartenders scanner is extremely out of date and claims it wouldn't scan. She refused to see any other sort of ID because she said "I don't care what your ID or any other ID's say you look 16, so I'm not serving you." So, we offered to have a cop come and verify it for her and she said "no, even if he is legal I'm still not going to server him because I don't have to." I'm sorry.. WHAT? that was insane to hear and all FOR NO REASON. She then continued to talk down to him over and over saying he looks 16 and denied him even though he is very much legal age. I was there with a large party and brought him as my guest and it was extremely disrespectful. we have never been treated and spoken so down to by a bartender like that before, especially for no reason. It seemed very entitled and she was rude to a lot of my other friends as well. Im a server and I would NEVER speak to a guest the way she did. the employees were so upset about my boyfriend looking young that they continued to stare at him all night making me and my entire group feel uncomfortable, and essentially ruining a lot of our time there. I've never had something so rude happen like this before. we were really looking forward to a fun night with friends. Get updated scanners, just because a guest may look young does not mean he deserves to be disrespected, stared at, threatened, and spoken down to. Ridiculous.

Lauren C.

Yelp
This was a straightforward bowling alley. The bar was fully stoked and the bartender Cindy was nice. We played darts until the rest of our party came. There was no wait on a Friday night until about 9. You can either pay by game or by hour. The bar also recommended ordering pizza form across the street because they will deliver it to your lane. Overall we had a great experience and had fun!

jorge v.

Yelp
Awesome service from the staff. Good variety of BBQ. I have been a league bolder for over 20 years and this place always keeps their lanes in great shape.

Cal B.

Yelp
terrible! made us wait while there are plenty of lanes available! online said league starts bowling at 6, while we've been there between 4:30 and 4:45. had to wait another half hour? this is a bullshit system.

Jessi B.

Yelp
Absolutely a great place to bowl! Staff is very nice and respectful, social atmosphere is very great. Great food and bar as well. Highly recommended!

Trey D.

Yelp
Great food. I hate bowling, but I come here to watch my friends bowl and have a good time. You can order food directly from the tables, and they bring it to you. It's great. Everyone seems really welcoming and friendly.

Marcus G.

Yelp
If you're looking for a family friendly environment with ice cold beer, competitive lanes and no AC, then come on down. It's 97 degrees outside and our bowling tournament held no weight on making a decision to get this thing fixed. Don't worry though, they brought out 1 blower fan for all of us to fight over. If there was a financial issue on why this couldn't get fixed before they crowed 80+ people in here, I sure would've sacrificed my bracket money to help. Terrible.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Bowling alleys are always great for people watching and bringing out of town family from the Midwest. With that being said, my family was in town and we decided to go bowling for the evening. You can either pay by the hour or pay per person. We opted per person since we had 5 bowlers and two were teens. Overall the bowling ally was your typical scene of being time warped back to the 80s-90s. The bowling ally had food and beverages but we didn't partake in either. It was about $56 bucks for two games and 5 pairs of shoe rentals. A little pricy but we had fun

David W.

Yelp
Westgate is the greatest bowling alley on this side of the Mississippi. The front desk are kind and helpful, the barbecue restaurant inside is literally unbelievably good. Drinks are a flat 5 bucks for a beer or a mixed drink. I'd recommend making this your home for bowling.

Brian M.

Yelp
Overall great place to bowl. The place is taken care of with plenty of bowling balls to choose from. The place gave our group a great discount that allowed us to play for about two hours at a very very great price. Definitely worth checking out!

Derek L.

Yelp
Took the kids to Westgate Lanes recently. They have done a phenomenal job of safely reopening with new safety protocols in place and we had a blast! They do require face masks to walk in the front door and get set up with your shoe rental and lane assignment, but once you are at your lane you are able to remove your mask and relax. There is hand sanitizer everywhere, plexiglass shields at the front desk, and the way they have the bowling balls arranged by size in different areas of the building is brilliant. This keeps you from touching every ball in the place looking for the perfect fit. Families were well spaced out and we had no other bowlers within 20 feet of us. Additionally, once you are done bowling you just leave everything at your lane so that they can safely return and sanitize everything you were using. Overall we felt very safe taking our kids here and will be returning throughout the summer. It felt great to get back to a normal family-friendly activity and i encourage you to visit and support this South Austin treasure.

Jane M.

Yelp
Lots of lanes. Very old and not well kept. They did not have shoes for everyone. The shoes that they had were in poor condition. I am going to try some other places in Austin that have bowling; I know there aren't many. This may be the best Austin has to offer.

James A.

Yelp
I went a few weeks ago with a couple of friends and the place is well-kept. The main problem was that my friends and I had to keep resetting the lane because the pins wouldn't set properly on several frames. Aside from this, we had a good time and had great food at Lebowski's Grill.

Larissa O.

Yelp
Honestly really liked this this! Great prices and good food from Slab. Don't want to forget about the snow cone place outside!

Tim C.

Yelp
They have a Lebowski's Grill inside now. We came over from the original location at the Highland Lanes location to pick up a cool looking, reasonably priced black tee shirt...and I tried one of their white chocolate macadamia nut cookies...yum.

Christina L.

Yelp
Westgate Lanes is a pretty lively place, where all walks of life come together for a fun evening. When my fiancé and I went on a Saturday night, everyone from high schoolers to massive families with children learning to bowl to couples like us were out. There was no wait for a lane. There are a bunch of lanes, and the balls are fairly well maintained. My partner and I had a great time bowling here. My only very small complaint is that the rental shoes were very wide and were a tad uncomfortable because of how they fit. Otherwise, we will certainly be back!

Susan W.

Yelp
I'm betting population south of the river knows just what a gem they have in Westgate Lanes. I've always lived and worked north of the river so I had never been here...that is until today. We were invited too a gathering by extended family here at Westgate Lanes. It was worth the trip and frankly I wish I'd frequented it long ago! There are a plethora of bowling lanes, and of coarse automated pin count that displays above the lane you are using. There is a very unique rainbow of different candies that can be dispensed via a large horizontal machine with several large tubes that contain the kind of candies you'd find in the mall's candy store. I have never seen anything like this in a bowling alley or anywhere else for that matter! It's definitely an eye catcher for children and adults alike! This Bowling Alley is well-maintained. Every alley was working and it was very busy on a Sunday with lots of friends and families getting together to have some fun. Lebowski's Grill as well as a full bar is on the premises. I've not had such great tasting food at a bowling alley in over 30 years--I enjoyed it so much I would definitely recommend it and would consider stopping in even if I didn't plan to bowl. Our group had a variety of items and there were no complaints to be found. It was hard to choose but we decided that the Mushroom Burger and the French Fries left indelible impressions. The burger was ample-covered the entire bun and thick enough for the flavor of flat top seared beef came through despite the yummy mushrooms and the melted cheese that completely covered the burger. The bun? Brioche......yum! Came dressed with lettuce and tomato and the usual suspects-mayo, mustard, ketchup could be added to suit your taste. Sounds simple but yet it's so tasty Drop by and enjoy!!!!

Christina H.

Yelp
Everything was great upon arrival, walked in their with my boyfriend and we were promptly greeted, went to the bar area... super nice bartender and great food... unfortunately when we walked away from our food while we were still eating, someone decided to eat/take our food...pretty shitty thing to do. This was on a Tuesday around 6 o'clock Who did it?

Mike J.

Yelp
Fun and clean. Friendly staff but always a busy place so be prepared to wait. Good selection of balls and great electronic scoring. My GF and I make it a regular date night of just silly fun.

Michelle M.

Yelp
We brought a 5 year old and a 3.5 year old here for their first time bowling while we were in town with family and we all had a great time! They didn't have shoes for my 3.5 year old but allowed her to bowl in her tennis shoes. They provided us with one 6 lb ball (which was great because we didn't have to search around for one) and they have the slides which allow kids to just set the ball on top and it rolls down and onto the lane. That was helpful mostly for my 3.5 year old daughter who couldn't roll the ball very well. Bumpers are also available on any lane (just needs to be programmed). We ordered fries for the kiddos (which came quickly and were well seasoned) and the entire family had a great time during a very rainy day. Would totally recommend this place!

Alicia M.

Yelp
Good morning, we here for Special Olympics Bowling Competition . We from San Antonio. Be the best to WIN.good luck to all. All amables with smile

Mia H.

Yelp
I have to leave a review because we were absolutely blown away by the service we received at Westgate lanes. It's so clean and nice and everyone knows what they're doing. Not some janky run down small town bowling alley here. Gotta shout out to Bruno for going above and beyond, thanks bro! Until next time.

Alysha M.

Yelp
Love competing here with my Austin Sports and Social team! The lanes are nothing fancy- it's pretty old school vibes here, but I like it that way :) The bar and kitchen are what you'd expect- nothing amazing, but super friendly staff and awesome service.

Kelly S.

Yelp
I love this bowling alley! The food at Labowski's is great, the burgers are as big as your face and the establishment is always clean. I have been bowling at this location for almost 15 years. Convenient, easy, and a lot of fun!

Jennifer G.

Yelp
GREAT place for a kids' birthday party. My daughter asked for a suprise party this year and since we live so close, we decided to do it at Westgate Lanes. Super-easy! Called up, got the first slot of the Saturday parties. They provide EVERYTHING except the cake. I brought ballons for some extra decor, but they weren't necessary. I had an ice cream cake and our hostess (sorry, I can't remember her name) put it in the freezer for me. Kids bowled for one hour and the hostess put all the kids names into the system before we started (I provided the list). We did buy some fries and tater tots to snack on during bowling, but that was cool. We got everyone the drinks during bowling and they were well satisfied. We ordered two extra pizzas but the pizzas that came with the party were so big they would have been almost enough to cover us. We had 10 kids and 7 adults. We did overlap with the next party (they used the other half of the room) but it was for maybe 10 minutes while we came in from bowling and they were just setting up getting ready to bowl. I would highly recommend having a kid birthday party here. I may even have a birthday party for myself here one year! Thanks to the hostess--she was great!

Havalah W.

Yelp
Ive been coming here since i was a little kid, seeing as i am from Austin and this particular area was kinda like "coming into to town". We like to come here when the weather is bad outside and play a game or two w the kids. We all generally have a really good time here. Bowling is fun and challenging! They have a full bar and other things to eat and buy as well. The prices are cheap in comparison for a family of five outing.

Gracia R.

Yelp
Nathaniel and Jesse served and also cooked us the the best burgers ever. The best customer service. They were more than we could imagine. I can't wait to come back.

Peter K.

Yelp
Great bowling alley with door-buster bargains on day bowling and plenty of lanes for league night. WARNING: The burgers at this place have to be the saltiest treat I have ever eaten. Tread carefully.

Megan A.

Yelp
Bowling alley itself is good- exactly what you would expect. Good snacks, cheap beer, bowling. It can get really busy but it's worth the wait especially for $10/ person all you can bowl on special event nights. My biggest beef with this place is the bar/ bar service. There has never been more than one (unfriendly) bartender - and lines can get up to 10 people long all night (you'll miss multiple frames waiting). I'll still continue to come, but I would honestly pay more money to get decent bar wait times. It would make waiting for a lane and playing more enjoyable.

Jennafurrrrrr C.

Yelp
We had a really good time bowling we went and use our coupons that the Children get when they're out of school and they get to ball one free game every day and all we had to pay for was the shoes so that was three of us bowling and we paid nine dollars as far as the bowling goes we had some support for my daughter to roll the ball they have the special rollers and they also have accommodations for younger children there. We had a wonderful time and both of my children won! We will definitely be back and I recommend this place to anyone looking to go bowling

LeAnn H.

Yelp
Westgate is good old family fun. I enjoy coming here and bringing the little people. Their bar adds to the experience and reminds me of good ol simple days bowling as a kid. They're friendly and I definitely enjoy coming here to lose a game to a 3 year old :-)

Russell S.

Yelp
Tried to go on a Wednesday nite. Lots of people, hard to find anyone wearing a mask. Clean all the surfaces you want, but lots of people gathered inside without masks? Expected better from this place.

Ella D.

Yelp
Extremely 90's bowling alley-ey... complete with outdated structure, decor, a ceiling Frodo could touch flat-footed, music and cafeteria food. I have never had fries that are less salted or more crinkle cut than theirs. Perfection. Westgate lanes, for me, is a trip back to Junior High outings and to uncomfortable family get-togethers in a town so small our movies still cost $4.00 - the alternatives to which are either bowling or watching old people burn their tongues on coffee at the Whataburger. No, I don't know where your cat is or why your son won't call, Sir... I love that Westgate is very family friendly. The place is always full of kiddos enjoying some family game time with their folks. We took our three year old and she totally rocked it... and maybe dented the floor. But like her mom, damage or not, she looked adorable doing it. $3.00 domestics is always happy for me, and I didn't see that being advertised as a Happy Hour price. So that's nice. I also totally won two of the games we played AND totally got a turkey. So while that awesomeness can only be attributed to Yours Truly, I'll throw a nod to Westgate Lanes for being part of that benchmark in my life. *kisses fist and points to the heavens* As far as their lanes - 19 was having some technical difficulties that were immediately addressed by staff. Otherwise, they're well tended, slick, and unless a toddler has rolled a ball down them at the most god forsaken negative speed possible, they seem extremely even. Staff, by the way, is very considerate and may even appear hovering above your shoulder like some sort of bowling alley leprechaun to chuckle at your kid for sticking the ball between the gutter and the runner AGAIN before you have even noticed enough yourself to tell your kid what a disappointment they are. God, my kid sucks at bowling. Do they get better at things after 3? They have tons of lanes, cheap drinks, horrible food, and exactly the environment you remember in bowling alleys as a kid minus indoor smoking. If you're prissy about bowling (whatever the hell that means) then maybe go to Main Event... but for me, location, cost and overall environment - I I dig it.

Marissa P.

Yelp
A good, fun, old fashioned, bowling alley!! After a couple days of trying to get a lane somewhere for a reasonable price, we happened upon this place after eating dinner nearby. We were able to walk in and for $20 my boyfriend and I had a lane for the night! With beers were priced at $3.50, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect, spur of the moment, date night !! We had a blast and we plan to be back here for another date night soon!!

Laura A.

Yelp
The people who work here are very nice. The prices are reasonable. The food at the restaurant is very good, much better than you would expect with healthier choices. The lanes are good and it's not too noisy considering what it is.

Jared W.

Yelp
West gate lanes was chill I've been bowling here for years! Felix was awesome. We don't bowl often but when we do we bowl with Felix.

Lindsey D.

Yelp
Solid old school bowling alley. Cheap beers, diverse crowd, good deals on Sunday and Monday. One night we were having consistent pin resetting and scoring problems, but it was casual bowling and I think if we made more of a fuss about it they would've refunded or more thoroughly addressed it- so I'm not docking them for us being casual.

Lesley W.

Yelp
This is just like a regular ol' bowling alley, but I found a few things here that made me a notch happier than usual! First, you are able to pay by the game, which was really nice with 6 people. You never know how long you are going to take with that many, and it ended up being a better deal. The other was that they had both NFL games on on all the TVs! Thank you Westgate for letting me celebrate a birthday while not missing the Bronco's game, I won't forget it :) I was also able to easily find a ball with holes for my big fat thumb. I always have a hard time finding one and there were several I could have used. Also, even on a Sunday afternoon, when it was packed, we only waited for less than 10 minutes. Awesome! Overall, it was a good experience. I've been to worse bowling alleys for sure, and if this was in my neck of the woods I'd choose it over others!

Mike U.

Yelp
This is the first time I have been to a real bowling alley in quite some time. I live in DC and the closest lanes to us are a Lucky Strike. I grew up in the alley with my brother and sister as our parents played in their league and it is always nice to walk into a nice place like this one. Felt like I was home again. Every single house ball seemed brand new. No chips or scars on any of the balls and the lanes were immaculate. Walked away with a 179. I'll take it. We ordered a large pizza from the cafe and it was out in 10 minutes and was actually rather tasty. The service was friendly and the prices (for the food and bowling) were extremely reasonable. Can't wait to visit again...
