NYC Chain Known for Vegetable Plates and Salads Coming to Clarendon | Eater DC

"I'm looking forward to Westville's local debut in Clarendon in 2025 at 2800 Clarendon Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia; the New York eatery — currently eight locations and its first outside the NYC metro area — brings healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus focused on simple, vegetable-heavy meals. I found it is known for light salads and vegetable sides like Brussels sprouts in honey dijon, green peas with shallots and bacon, and broccoli with roasted peppers, alongside classic sandwiches and hamburgers, and that founder Jay Strauss is overseeing a dramatic expansion under the motto “nothing fancy.”" - Emily Venezky

Google
NYC-based restaurant group, it has several appealing accepts. Firsr, healthy, w many salads and light protein. I had kale salad w chicken; my wife had turkey chili - both very good. Second, great beer/wine/cocktail menu. I had pickle Marg which was tasty and an experience (but will not repeat). Third, savory succulents like burgers and pasta; I didn't order *this time* but will in future. It's a great new place on the hood!

First but not last experience at Westville! We live nearby and have been meaning to check it out, and we decided to try out their lunch. We shared a bowl of butternut squash soup which was so flavorful! My fiance got the miso chicken bowl and I got the chicken plate with beets and cauliflower - we both left stuffed and with to-go boxes. Everything was seasoned so well, the chicken was moist, and the veggies were fresh! We'll definitely be back, excited to try the rest of the menu :)

I visited for the first time on Saturday morning - the exterior seating area of the restaurant was already filling with patrons. Since it was a nice day I also decided to sit outside. I was promptly greeted by the host and server and able to order quickly. The outdoor tables are a little close together so you will actively hear other patrons’ conversations. The food service is prompt and the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich entree was good (the sandwich just had a little too much of their chipotle mayo which made the sandwich a little messy to eat). The mocktail watermelon sangria was so refreshing, light and sweet I ordered two because it was so good! Would visit again for brunch and to try the interior seating area. There is paid deck and street parking nearby. $$

10 out of 10 experience eating here yesterday! The staff was so friendly and accommodating. And the food and drinks were so yummy! You can really taste the freshness in the food!! I can't wait to bring back more friends and family to try out the rest of the menu.

Had a great experience at Westville! The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Everything we tried was delicious, and the menu had a great variety of options. Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. Definitely a spot I’d come back to—simple, tasty food done right!

Glad Westville decided to open up a location in Virginia, and what better than Clarendon! Similar to the New York locations, everything tastes healthy-ish and homemade, but maybe better than most city dwellers could do at home. Also an easy venue if you’re dining in a big group with pick eaters - lots of protein and veggie options, and super friendly to allergies and dietary restrictions. Personal favorite was the fish sandwich. Veggie sides are all good and taste healthy (no heavy feeling that I get sometimes from veggie sides at restaurants - maybe they use a healthier oil or fewer additives). Carrot cake was flavorful and had a great texture, and love that it looked homemade as well. Interior feels like an old school diner, and is super clean. Outdoor patio looks like a great place to enjoy an aperol spritz during the summer.

Everything we ordered was great. Recommend trying the pesto mashed potatoes and the carrot cake! Although they were very busy, the staff was friendly.

I stopped by for lunch on a whim since I was in the area. I wasn’t super hungry, so I went with the chicken Caesar salad—and it did not disappoint! The lettuce was fresh and crisp, the chicken was juicy, and the touch of lemon really brought it all together. On top of that, the customer service was excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Don't let the casual decor fool you - Westville is a fantastic new addition to the area and exactly what we've been needing--especially with its thoughtful and exciting vegetarian options. We went for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We both ordered the Market Plate, which lets you mix and match four side dishes into a full meal, and every bite was full of flavor and creativity. Don't sleep on the Moroccan Spiced Carrots or the Roasted Cabbage Wedge. The teriyaki tofu is just okay. I would love to see the tofu made with a few different styles or seasonings, or even a bean side, for more vegetarian protein options. The highlight of the evening was the Rosemary Gim-Less. This mocktail would fool anyone, it was balanced, refreshing, and truly impressive. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. They made good recommendations and helped us understand the menu. Can't wait to come back and work my way through more of the menu!

Yelp
Delicious food in a bright casual restaurant with fast and friendly service, overall felt like it had so many healthy options and was also vegetarian and gluten-free friendly. For appetizers, chicken tenders came out hot and crispy, three medium sized pieces to an order with a side of bbq sauce (the other option for the sauce was buffalo and blue cheese). The sweet potato fries as an appetizer were savory and super crispy. Highly recommend. The Cobb salad had generous portions of bacon, blue cheese, chicken breast and fresh sliced avocado. The dressing was bright and citrusy with dill. The garlicky chicken thigh bowl special was the highlight- with tender chunks of chicken and cabbage with roasted sweet potatoes and crunchy cashews and pickle slices. I would definitely order this one again. The turkey chili was very hearty with a large amount of turkey and black beans and was not too spicy. Solid choice for a cold day. The market plate was healthy and balanced option that we shared. The top two were the kale spinach combination which was garlicky and flavorful and the yuca fries which was crispy with a chipotle aioli dip. The roasted broccoli was bright and crunchy. The green beans with soy sauce glaze were okay but I would recommend the others over it. For dessert, the chocolate molten cake was hot and not too sweet but not gooey, if that is the texture you are looking for. And the chocolate chip cookie was warm but very memorable. Overall, this is a solid place with tasty satisfying food and friendly and fast service on an early Saturday evening. It's in a nice walkable area.

Yelp
This is basically a vegetarian's dream. Imagine a world where instead of menus being geared toward carnivores and then having a handful of token items for the vegetarians it was the opposite. Carnivores can eat meat here (and honestly this is the first time I have been tempted to eat meat in a long time because they have Hebrew Nationals like my dad used to get me at the ballpark) but vegetables are the star of the show. Husband and I both split market plates which each feature 4 vegetable sides so we ended up trying 8 vegetables. Portions were huge and the veggie options were varied and interestingly prepared. I was most impressed by the sweet potatoes, cauliflower and tofu (which counts as a veggie side!) Takes a look at my pics. We aso ordered an apple pie desert and I think this might be the best apple pie I have ever had. The dough was so so flavorful as well as the filling. I say this as someone who is normally chocolate obsessed: This is a phenomenal dessert. Service was decent too. Everyone was nice, waitress was attentive, she knew the menu well and it was clear people actively wanted to be helpful. Ambiance was a little spare and rustic for my taste, and maybe a bit on the nose. You can tell it is a veggie-friendly restaurant the minute you walk in without having to see a menu. I feel like they take the farm-to-table concept really literally and it's already dated. I much prefer places that create elevated atmosphere to make vegetarians feel like we are still able to enjoy fancier dining to make up for all the steakhouses and shmancy French places treating us like an annoyance. Especially since this place is also a full cocktail bar. But at the same time it is casual and approachable, and prices were very reasonable so it fits. Stuff we didn't try but saw coming out of the kitchen also looked really enticing. Overall, I recommend.

Yelp
Tried this out on Sunday early evening . It's not on the site , but they have a switchover on the weekend between brunch and dinner, not a huge deal but would help if it was somewhere listed. Food was cool, everything came out quick and the was tasty. Truffle fries were great but could use some type of dipping sauce, but they are good for an appetizer . I subbed out the grilled chicken for the chicken cutlet and really enjoyed my salad . Pretty large portion. I sat at the bar and they just had one bartender but he was nice and was doing a good job with making drinks and being attentive to the few of us at the bar . I enjoyed that they have drinks specials every day ! I got a glass of Prosecco with my meal It's a new spot so they have a few kinks to get out , but overall I enjoyed my visit. Already seems to be a popular spot for pickup and to go orders. Also the outdoor area was nice , nothing special but convenient if you are out shopping in the area.

Yelp
Stopped in for an after-dinner drink and ended up also having a snack as well. The space is cozy and fresh. Spicy Pineapple Margarita - delicious! Smoky and flavorful. Smoky Mac and Cheese - Cheeeeeesy. Really good, I recommend.

Yelp
Welcome to Clarendon, Westville! This place offers weekly lunch specials and dinners, focusing on meals prepared with wholesome ingredients. We were recommended in getting their Market Plate, which comes with a choice of 4 market veggies - we went for the brussels sprouts, the Mexican street corn, the roasted mushrooms, and the roasted sweet potatoes with sour cream & scallions. We also added the Crispy Fish sandwich (with coleslaw, Romaine, and homemade tartar sauce in a club roll), the Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich (with avocado, arugula, and chipotle mayo on a Portuguese muffin), and a Steak Sandwich (with caramelized onions and horseradish mayo on a club roll). Everything was prepared well and tasted fresh; staff were very helpful and friendly! Note that they are currently open for carry out and delivery. +currently open for carry out and delivery +Market Plates +friendly staff

Yelp
Healthy, customizable, American restaurant that is the NYC chain's first location outside of the state Both indoor and outdoor seating, but when I came here for dinner with my friends the inside got pretty loud The place is known for their customizable options which include a variety of proteins and fresh veggies to choose from I came with a party of 4. We really enjoyed our food, and the portions were sizable, but it was somewhat expensive Great drinks too!

Yelp
I loved Westville way back when I lived in New York, and was so excited to see they opened up an Arlington location. The food is excellent (not a special occasion place, but a good place to grab a casual meal) and the service fantastic, despite it being a soft opening. The format is basically you can pick a protein or a sandwich and then choose market sides. The market sides are the star of the show--the kale, mushrooms, and yuca fries were all excellent. You can even order four market sides as a meal. The only suggestion is, the entrees may be priced a few dollars more than they should be, given the portion sizes. We both ordered an entree (steak and two sides for him, chicken breast and two sides for me) and both of us were still a bit hungry. We probably should've ordered an extra side or two, but at $8 a side, dinner can get pricey fast.

Yelp
Tried out the newly opened Westville in Clarendon for a takeout lunch with a friend, and overall it was a really solid experience. The food was fresh, flavorful. When we got there we had to wait alittle since we were early and the host sat us at the bar and shared some Information about their menu and weekly specials which was really nice. I ordered the teriyaki salmon with a couple of sides - sweet potato fries and the bacon caramelized onion peas. The salmon was cooked perfectly and had a nice glaze without being too sweet or overpowering. The fries were really good and they give you a generous amount but they could've used a touch more salt. The peas, though, were just okay kind of bland so I probably wouldn't get those again. The space itself is bright and airy with cute, modern decor. It has more of a casual lunch vibe, but I definitely want to come back and try it for dinner one night. They also do themed nights like Taco Tuesday and Margarita Wednesday, which sounds fun. Price-wise, it felt a bit on the high side for what it was, but make sense, they're leaning into the healthier options, and the quality was there. All in all, it's a nice addition to the Clarendon neighborhood and I'll for sure be back.

Yelp
I ordered takeout here and really enjoyed the speed it was prepared (20 mins) and how friendly front of staff was. We tried something simple: started with the smoky mac with bacon, then a caesar with grilled chicken, and chicken cutlets with side mushrooms and carrots. The portions are fairly large for the hefty price but we do wish there was a bit more chicken in the chicken cutlet meal (came with one piece when we thought it said 2). The smoky mac with bacon appetizer was fantastic and could feed us for 2-3 meals. Overall, only experienced take out and would love to try more items but good experience and great healthy options!

Yelp
Went today for brunch and it was amazing. The food and service was great. They have so many options and a variety of fresh veggies. 10/10 will definitely be back.

Yelp
Nice spot for brunch! Good menu options & service. The interior is well-decorated & a welcoming environment! I had the breakfast burrito with the side salad and it was really solid!

Yelp
I absolutely loved Westville when I lived in NYC back in the day, so I was thrilled at the prospect of it coming to VA. Unfortunately, I've been a little disappointed by the uneven quality of the market sides. Some are amazing (the yucca fries, the Brussels sprouts!) but some are so boring and without even the slightest attention to flavor or even vaguely interesting preparation (carrots, kale). I hope they'll raise the bar on some of these subpar market sides. It's really a good spot, but for the cost, I could prepare some of them way better with just a tiny bit of effort. I will update this review as I try more items. I know they're just getting up and running, so I hope this changes!

Yelp
Gave me raw salmon, terrible service terrible resolution to the issue, would not recommend.

Yelp
Chic new healthy food spot in Clarendon! I attended the soft opening and was so impressed by the whole menu. The drinks were amazing, and I loved every single thing I ordered. Shoutout to our waiter Charlie and to Katie! So excited that this spot has opened up in my area. Ps- try the watermelon spritz, the market plate, the pesto mashed potatoes, and the steak.

Yelp
The manager (Tabil? (Apologies I forgot)) was very welcoming and kind for our first time. Food was fun in presentation and delicious I was a fan of my beet salad and Prosecco lemonade. The vibes are really chill and calming with the plants hanging from the bar ceiling. I'm curious to know what the plant care secrets are since they're so big! Would come back again.

Yelp
Tried out new place in neighborhood for brunch on Sunday, based on the initial positive reviews. My three star rating is a reflection of the start up challenges with the service, but my rating for the food would be five star hands down. Kitchen nailed both our dishes, french toast and clilaquiles, and definitely going back. We met the manager, Katie, who is terrific, shared out constructive comments on the service lapses, which she accepted and understood. They were one server down, which contributed to the performance. She was genuinely interested in our experience, and this shows a level of professionalism not always evident in restaurants. We assured her we will be back, and it's so great to have a place with good food, good ambience just a few blocks from my house. I think Katie will have a big hand in make Westville a star in Clarendon. JohnG

Yelp
Welcome to the DMV! So exciting to see my NYC go-to in Clarendon! I love this place and the new Virginia location DID NOT disappoint! Great food, perfect location. Don't sleep on the mac and cheese. Lovely staff.

Yelp
Made a reservation as requested for their beginning weekend. The food was great and the staff went above and beyond. I wish I got their names so I can give a shout out to them. For food....we got the empanadas and the California Benedict which had a lot of flavor. The mocha was one of the best in the area. The location was very inviting and had lots of natural light. I highly recommend and will definitely be going back.

Yelp
The bartender, Michael, from SoHo location is amazing !! They imported an ace for the opening. Attentive, nice and makes great drinks. Loved the whole experience. Food is great, with great healthy sides. Awesome vibes. Everyone is SO SO kind and friendly which is not the norm in this area. Perfect addition to neighborhood. Five stars - full recommend.
