Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff Orders Whataburger During Texas Campaign | Eater Austin

"During a Sept. 23 campaign stop in Southeast Austin, the Second Gentleman lunched at a Texas-born fast-food burger chain location on East Oltorf with former Representative Beto O’Rourke. He ordered the number two combo (a double-meat burger with fries and a drink) without pickles and added onion rings, looked forward to the chain’s spicy ketchup, and mixed his fountain drink two-thirds Diet Coke and one-third regular Coke; he skipped Dr Pepper while O’Rourke pointed out the shake. The pair posed for photos with staffers and diners, and O’Rourke — a noted fan of the chain — typically orders cheeseburgers without tomatoes. The brand, founded in 1950 by Harmon Dobson, built its reputation on oversized, two-handed burgers and a slogan that inspired its name." - Nadia Chaudhury

You have to order the food online and pick it up. If you want breakfast and its close to 11 it depends on who is on the register if youre going to get it or not. The other day the cashier didnt talk to me until the menu changed and said sorry i cant serve you breakfast. Today i ordered a breakfast on a bun and it had eggshells in it. The drive thru line takes forever if its empty or not. Its a nice looking location but homeless folks are sometimes hiding in the restroom.

I'm not sure if they were understaffed, lots of new-hires, or what. But, there was no line when I first showed up and ordered a small fry along with a small shake. I inquired about my order after 20 minutes, and was told it would be right out. 10 minutes later I had to ask again, followed by the same response. Another 10 minutes and I finally see a manager (frantically running around) and grab his attention. He apologized profusely and said a fresh batch would be made and he is going to refund my money. He did just that. Fries were fresh and hot, and I saw on my bank account that I was immediately refunded.

I work nights, so I understand the difficulty and demographics of how it works. This staff at the Oltorf location is just unbelievable. Drive through especially. Missing items from orders, to completely forgetting that you had an order after paying and needing to give them your receipt back just to wait another 15min in the drive thru. You practically have to beg for them to put more than 2 spicy ketchup packets in the bag.

My boyfriend and I came in at 4:03am after work, just trying to get some food and unwind. We ordered a burger combo, a breakfast combo, and a breakfast taquito — nothing crazy. We sat inside and waited… and waited… and waited. There was no one else in the building but us, yet 30 minutes went by and we still had no food. Eventually, one of the workers noticed and asked, “You still don’t have your food?” She went to check and found out that they gave our entire order to a random guy. No name check, no ticket number — just handed it over. My boyfriend asked how that even happens, and no one could give us an answer. We didn’t get our food til 4:47am and there was not one person in the building but us, and there was no tickets on the drive-thru screens. Please look at the photo for reference. This isn’t the first bad experience we’ve had here, especially involving the same big Hispanic lady with glasses who works the drive-thru. There’s clearly no structure when it comes to handling inside orders — they always prioritize the drive-thru and completely ignore dine-in customers. We were tired, hungry, and just wanted a simple meal, and instead we left frustrated and beyond disappointed. This is my official call to never go to whataburger again.

Triple Meat Whataburger - 3 large beef patties, 3 slices cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickle, diced onion, mustard / 5⭐! Whatameal Combo - add medium fries and medium drink / 5⭐! Dr. Pepper Milkshake / 5⭐! When I was planning my first trip to Texas, I knew I wanted to try Whataburger. I live in an area where they do not have any locations and love all kinds of burgers and burger places. I am very happy to report my first visit to Whataburger was a big success. I was so excited to finally be able to try their burgers, so I got a little carried away and ordered a triple. The burger was huge! I am a hearty eater but even I had trouble finishing the entire triple burger. I had no regrets even though I had to rest after finishing it. The burger was full of beefy, good flavor. I had Whataburger twice on my vacation. The second time, I had a double which was a perfect, large meal for me with the fries. The fries were crispy and tasty. I love dipping sauces as well as ketchup. It was neat to see all the various sauces you could order with your meal. My favorites were the jalapeno ranch and spicy ketchup. I had never seen a Dr. Pepper milkshake on a menu before so I treated myself to a small one. It was like having a Dr. Pepper float. I'd order it again. This is the location we went to for our first Whataburger meal. The staff was clearly working hard that day. The place was busy and there were a lot of cars in the drive through window. But the crew was friendly and nice. The location had a lot of parking and lots of seating. Overall, for my first Whataburger experience, it was a good one and I would certainly return if the opportunity came up.

They’re always busy so if you’re in a rush go to the drive thru but if you have a second to wait they have a great environment. Their workers are great. I go every other night just for some to drink or some snack on. They always make you feel welcome. Dashers always frustrate so I think they can improve on getting online orders out faster but other than that one of the best places for a midnight snack, meal or chill area. ( I don’t go during the day so I can’t tell you if they are the same or not)

Please educate your staff on the law regarding service animals. Employees have attempted to illegally deny me service and have illegally demanded specific requirements for my service dog (have a vest). The other day a manager accused my dog of not being a service dog because he was jumping. My dog never barks, he is 11 months old, and while trained in some tasks to assist my disability...he is still a puppy and training is ongoing.

Worst service I have ever had in my life. I have never made a bad review on any place until now. They didn’t have my food ready after 30-45 mins after I was the only one in the store left. They said that I never ordered and the manager checked twice. They had me digging in the trash twice to look for my receipt, since the manager said I never ordered and he checked. Then Al the sudden after an hour a different nice lady from the back found my receipt. (So obviously the manager didn’t look) they were about to make my food an hour later but from the way that they treated me I didn’t trust what they would do to my food. Will never go to that branch again. I am sure the manager ate my food and said that I never ordered. I think they thought I was homeless because of the area and that they are better than. Crazy
