Whataburger Opens in Newnan, Georgia, and Slutty Vegan Opens at Spelman College in Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

"Another location of wildly popular Texas-based burger joint Whataburger is now open in metro Atlanta. Newnan joins metro Atlanta Whataburger locations in Cumming, Buford, Kennesaw, and Woodstock. For now, the Bullsboro Drive location in Newnan is only open for drive-thru service, with dine-in and curbside pick-up services expected to begin in the next month." - Beth McKibben

Thaddeus was the manager this evening and he greeted us when we first walked in and helped everyone either start on the kiosk or at a register. All of the employees we met were very kind and helpful. The restaurant was very clean and we loved the Christmas decorations. It was our first time there and the food was also great.

A GM needs to visit this location. My family of 6 came in today to dine in. And our entire order was wrong. Fries were hard and overcooked, I was told by the manager it’s because “of the grease”, I’ve worked fast food and know the oil needs to be changed often to stop the fries from looking and tasting hard. Our order was corrected but everyone was annoyed and displeased at this point. We are from Alabama and y'all need to ask the Auburn location how to run an establishment, I paid 82.53 for nothing. We didn’t get a refund and didn’t really eat and enjoy our food. I will not come back and make sure I tell everyone to go to Burger King instead, I am from Texas and have been to several Whataburger’s all over and NEVER had a bad experience.

My first time at Whataburger. I was nicely greeted when I entered the store. I ordered the double cheeseburger meal which was your typical $10+ fast food combo these days. The burgers are nicely sized but lack flavor. Id prefer a Whopper if I had the choice. The fries were decent and reminded me of McDonald's. The interior was nice and clean, but the kiosks were both out of order, which I prefer to use. The location is unfortunately terrible. Once you enter the parking lot you have to go around through the drive through to exit, or drive the wrong way. To exit onto Bullsboro you have to wait for a light that takes ridiculously long to change. Overall, the experience was fine but I'd prefer other places.

Literally the worst fast food experience of my life! I remember how amazing a quick whataburger was from my time in Texas, so I decided to give the whataburger here another try (this is my second or third time since it opened and it’s always been awful, but I had a craving for whataburger and it’s been 6 months or more so I figured I’d try again). I ordered online at 12:30, I parked and waited until 12:55 because it said on the app it could take from 12:45-12:55. Whatever. So I pull around the drive thru and wait another 5 minutes. I was given my bag of food with a ticket printed from 12:39. My food was completely cold! Like, it hadn’t been hot 20 minutes earlier… So I pull back around and ask for new fries. They begrudgingly make new fries. I left and ate and while I ordered and paid for a double whataburger, I was given 2 whataburger jr patties (cold!) on a regular whataburger bun. Ew! I will wait until I’m in Texas again to enjoy what was my fave fast food burger. This place is disgusting and the people who work there are completely incompetent!!!

Interesting experience at this location. It’s my second time visiting. We normally stop as we drive through Newnan. The staff was extremely nice despite asking for our name for the order but putting “Boosie” as the name on the receipt. I brushed it off. Maybe it was an accident? We ordered 3 Bacon and Cheese Whataburger Meals. The fries were fresh and hot ! Definitely gets a 10 in my book! And the burgers were great. Bread was a-little stale but nothing too bad where it takes away from the actual meal. I would definitely come back to this location in a few weeks!

In July of 2024 I was working nearby this Whataburger and for convenience sake I ate lunch here a few times. I live in the Upstate of South Carolina and we just had 3 Whataburgers open recently so I wanted to review this one in hopes the folks running the one on Woodruff Rd in Greenville SC see it. I stopped at this location in Newnan on July 16th after going by the job site. I returned a week later to do some more work at the same site and ate at this location on the first and third workdays. So in 2 weeks, 3 visits and every time the food, service and atmosphere was great. Food was always hot and fresh. Especially the fries, who wants lukewarm fries? Another time I got onion rings, they were freshly made. Sweet tea was good. The people at the counter were smiling and friendly, greeted everyone that walked in. This location also has ordering kiosks for those that choose to use them. Tables were cleaned promptly when guests left.

Google
I placed a simple order, onion rings. I mentioned to the young lady who took my order that I prefer honey mustard for my onion rings. She said no problem. Upon leaving, I noticed the honey mustard was not in my bag. She went to go get it, but Thaddeus stopped her. He stated that their is a charge for that. So I asked, what's the charge? He said $0.42. I declined. I have visited many restaurants, where that is not a charge. If going forward, if their will be such a charge for select condiments, then I will not patronize your restaurants.

One of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I went at the very end of breakfast on Sunday, 11:00am. I didn’t have long to wait for my food. The sandwich was delicious the hash browns were unique and tasty. There is plenty of seating. The dining area is open, inviting and very clean. The employees were extremely nice and helpful. The perfect way to start the day. A must visit if in town.

Yelp
We love this Whataburger! Everyone has been very nice in the 10 or so times we have visited. Sometimes they are super busy & it might take a little longer but we are good with it. We love that they are open 24 hours & that they start breakfast at 11pm! Great options & ordering on the app is super easy.

Yelp
Service! Used the app. It worked well up till the part to deliver the food. Had to go inside gor the " curbside" order. Food was ready. But attendant lied that she came out and didn't see me. My gosh, my lights were on, car running, in the proper # and the only car there in 5 empty spots. Sandwich was soggy, cold, as were the fries. Buffalo chicken was not good. Go across the street to Burger King or Chik Fillet. Better food better service.

Yelp
20 minutes for a combination of the drive-through absolutely ridiculous. Worst customer service I've ever experienced at any fast food restaurant. Get your act together sure have a manager contact me. This was absolutely a. I was the first person in line and I waited almost 20 minutes for a cheeseburger and fries. As horrible AF!

Bill H.

Yelp
One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! This was at 2am YES, there was a wait and WHO CARES! ITS 2am!! If your impatient, don't go out to eat when you know it may be packed Super awesome food. Staff was patient and kind.

Terri L.

Yelp
The food is always hot and fresh. You've never tasted such good onion rings. Love the spicy ketchup. The operator of the store is wonderful and Jazlyn at the front register is a reason to come in all by herself. She's so sweet and helpful. I like seeing her smile.

Yelp
One of the latest fast food adds to the Newnan landscape, Whataburger sits directly on Bullsboro Drive about a block from the Millard Farmer intersection. I have eaten at several Whataburgers around the country and for the most part, this one falls in line. No major issues, but also nothing spectacular. My dad enjoys their burgers, so when I am in town, we always make an effort to swing through the drive thru and pick up a few burger combos. The burgers always come as ordered, no issues. My issue is with their fries...they do not travel well, even if it's just a few miles down the road. Even keeping the bag sealed doesn't maintain the fries. That's not a this location thing, I experience that each time I get fries in an order via drive thru. I saw a few folks noted the time it took to get food. Whataburger is one of the only fast serve spots that makes most things to order, which I can appreciate. For this, I don't mind waiting a few extra minutes. All my trips here have been via drive thru, so I cannot speak to inside service or vibe, but I have never had a rough time with service in the drive thru. They aren't overly friendly, but also aren't rude. Overall, I enjoy Whataburger as a brand and am glad to see them in Newnan.

Yelp
This location was less impressive than others I have visited. A Saturday at 6:30 pm, the floors were littered, the beverage counter was wet from soda spills, no napkins in the dispenser and no tea available, and the trash bins were full both inside and outside. The young lady at the register was very polite and helpful to retrieve napkins. The restaurant was very empty but the delivery of food was slow. My cheese was not melted on my burger because the burger was not warm. No condiments without asking. The young lady at the register was also trying to empty the trash receptors which was overflowing in between customers arriving. The operating manager, James Young must do better!!!!

Yelp
We love Whataburger and I wish I could give this location a higher rating. We will for sure try again in the future and hopefully raise the stars given. We did an online order and after arrival the time given for it to be ready/come out passed. Twenty minutes after the given time we went in to get our food. We still had to wait and then when we did receive our food we got back in the car to eat. The burgers were cold! The patty was cold and the three burgers we ordered with cheese the cheese was not even melted. It just was so disappointing after waiting an extra long time. We love Whataburger and have visited many locations living in both the west and here. This was by far the worst one we have visited both in customer service and food quality. Again, we will give it another try in the months to come, but for now there may be other locations that are much better to visit!

Yelp
I've been going to Whataburger in Texas and Oklahoma since I was a child . Newnan Georgia is a disappointment. My wife and I both ordered bacon cheese Whataburgers with grilled onions and jalapeno slices. I have ordered this a hundred times in the past Raw onions when both my wife and I ordered them grilled, a sprinkle of bacon crumbs when I ordered 2 strips of bacon on my burger, tiny little pieces of jalapeno. The staff is apathetic. What happened?

Yelp
I was at this store around 1:45 in the afternoon. I stood at the cash register and I was told if I was using a credit card I had to use the kiosk. It took a while to get to the next screen making my wait even longer, on the fries it didn't ask if you wanted salt or not, usually people add way too much salt so I asked for no salt. As I received my food I notice ( which I think is the manager) take a guys order at the counter with a credit card after I was told a few minutes earlier they couldn't take my order. The table I sat down at was dirty, the burger was way over cooked but at least the fries were fresh. This will probably be my last visit to this location, I have been to the one in Woodstock with no issues.
google avatar

Nisa R.

Yelp
Decided to come inside in order while visiting from California. The wait time was over 30 minutes. That is completely insane for a fast food restaurant! I am completely disappointed even with the fact that we had to use a computer screen to order our own food (as if I'm at work) and the screen went blank so we had to stand at the counter and let the associate help us. This place is not running efficient at all. Not the experience I was expecting compared to their other franchises in Texas.

Yelp
I wish I could give this Whataburger a negative 5. It's ran so poorly and ruins the Whataburger name. After waiting 50 minutes on a slow night, cleaning our own table, and receiving less than enthusiastic employee to serve us, our food wasn't edible. The fries were cold and excessively salted. Nothing was made to Whataburger standards. Dirty store and it's brand new.

Christopher C.

Yelp
Order for 3 people, completely left out bacon egg and cheese biscuit, biscuits and gravy had a level of gravy that didn't even cover the bottom of the package, much less the biscuit. Gravy was dry, all biscuits were dry and tiny. Was told the two teaspoons of gravy was normal. Zero stars if I could.
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Place was clean. Food questionable. I have always enjoyed Whataburger while living in Texas, but this is not the same. Meat patties were very dry, burger warm not hot. All in all I would prefer Burger King. Probably will not be back
google avatar

Kareem M.

Yelp
Never got to even try the food. After getting in line at 12:38 AM (After midnight yes!) I finally got to the cashier at 1:15 AM. For whatever reason they weren't accepting cash; only card and Apple pay; this wasn't mentioned or posted anywhere prior to the food counter and since I left my cards at home, that was extremely frustrating. I don't anticipate being back at any point in the near or far future. Pretty disappointing as I was still willing to give them a try despite the poor reviews.
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
The burger and patty melt we got were fresh, tasty and the perfect temperature. The fries were a little old but not unbearable. I ordered through the mobile app and it was super easy to pick up inside. We walked in, told them our name and a few moments later we had our food. The place looked clean and the bathrooms were definitely kept up with. Would definitely stop at again. It seems like they're gotten new management since the earlier, bad reviews were written. Worth giving it a try!

Rachel W.

Yelp
Burgers are good but breakfast is gross. The flavors an very unimpressive just not good. Would not recommend breakfast at all. Yuck. I ended up throwing must've away. Very sad and disappointing.

Yelp
Not worth it, drive thru order on a Sunday evening, had 4 combos, we paid and they took forever to make our food, one of the combos was wrong, chicken sandwiches had way too much mayonnaise, it's just not worth it, service wasn't great either.
google avatar

Yelp
First of all let me just say, reading the negative reviews on a business while it's soft opening or grand opening with all this its quirks and mishaps that may happen during the process, s a chicken sh#t move and not fair to the business orbits community. Having said that, we waited a few months so that those quirks and such may have played out and of course we weren't going to wait in grand opening lines. We also wanted to go inside and sit and see what kind of atmosphere the business had. So we went on a Sunday afternoon before 5pm. No lines, found a parking spot in the unusual parking lot, and went to place our very first order having never gone to a Whataburgwrs before. You can use a kiosk or go to the counter and give your order. We had a couple of questions which they answered politely then we took our order number and sat down. I noticed after we went through, it started to get real busy. The tables were all filling up with waiting families and no food out. I started to get worried... Around 15-20 minutes and here came our food. Then I noticed orders started arriving for other tables, one right after another. My chili cheeseburger was good and I couldn't finish it, it was so much food!! My family had the chili cheese fries and they couldn't finish them, they were so filling! I had regular French fries which were very good, hot and freshly salted. Good first time visit I think. Some observations: As a manager, I would have my people call out the order numbers as they walk around the restaurant dining room looking for those customers. Many of the order numbers weren't visible and it slowed down their table delivery Also, they should collect the plastic order number tents. I imagine just leaving them there, they probably would be mistakenly swept into the trash with the other food detritus sometimes and that would add up $wise. I saw no name badges on 80 percent of the employees. The one lady who changed the garbage and cleaned up the stations also washed the tables down was back and forth helping everyone with various requests for condiments, napkins, etc. Somehow she lifted a big container of fresh iced tea over to the counter. I decided to try the fresh brewed iced tea and it was sooooo good! So, form your own opinion and give them a try. Remember timing is crucial. If you go during their lunch rush and see the line is around the building and down Bullsboro, maybe wait and go at off peak time if you want to give them a fair chance.

Yelp
Whataburger = Whatabummer. I can not believe how bad the service and the food was at this establishment. I regret every second I spent waiting and buying into the hype of this new establishment... Will never make that mistake again. Service was lackluster and completely disorganized AND the burger and fries were cold. Not cool, cold! McDonalds would have been a better choice. #YouveBeenWarned

Yelp
Best fast food burger I've had in forever, the quality is amazing and service was quick in and out.
google avatar

Sandra E.

Yelp
Clean fast service friendly staff. One of the best burgers I've had in years. Will go back when I can.
google avatar

Mitch E.

Yelp
Order clearly shows, no mustard, add ketchup and mayo. Took 15 minutes at 3 in the afternoon. Food was cold.

Cam C.

Yelp
Food arrived half filled fries, none of the condiments I ordered and old soggy lettuce and a soda watered sprite.
google avatar

Billie B.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday during lunch. Service was quick, food delicious, and the manager on duty seemed to really care that customers had a good experience.
google avatar

Aden T.

Yelp
Waited in line for 1 hour and 20 minutes on their first day, I ordered a triple whataburger with fries and sweet tea, the food was good, there was no dine in option being it their first day so it was all drive thru. all i know is that their colors are orange and white inside.

Yelp
I started to enjoy Whataburger in TX when on a two week visit. I was thrilled that they opened on in Newnan, GA. But the food is nowhere near as good as other locations. This was my second visit and was totally dismayed at how much oil the sandwich was covered in. The second visit, I was surprised to see a person outside taking orders. She was all business so the order was quick. But the pickup window stuff was lacking speech? Not a word. I'm so disappointed with this visit, I will never go back. I am deleting the pointless app and finally getting over the poor greasy burger. Yuck, oil all over my car from leaching thru the bag.
google avatar

Yvette B.

Yelp
Living in Texas my family and I loved Whataburger food was always hot and fresh. However, today in Newnan I sat in line for 30 minutes for the worst burger and fries!!! Fries were stale and burger was cold. I will not eat here again.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
As a former Texan I am partial to this establishment. I won't even talk about the food I like for this locations review. I am disappointed the hours of breakfast service are not honored yet. Might be a shipping problem who knows? The night shift is way friendlier and more helpful than the dayshift thus far. Maybe one day it'll be successful enough to move out of the smallest of small lots with the unusual one-in-one-out driveway and move to a more accessible location. Fingers crossed. It's a basic burger joint. Go for the spicy ketchup or plain whataburger alone and leave with a weird new love for the breakfast burger. I dunno. Just try it even with its odd growing pains.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with Medium Fry and Medium Drink two cookies. After a long wait due to chaos in the kitchen, I received my food and assuming it was right because of the wait, I arrived home and opened the sandwich only to see what looks like a grilled cheese sandwich. Was really looking forward to eating it only to have got stuck with the cold fries and drink. Which by the way was supposed to be without ICE and they don't read the labels.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Burgers were not that good. Got stuck in the slow lane, the other lane was doing 2-3 cars faster than the outside lane. Not worth the hype.
google avatar

William D.

Yelp
Menu offers many choices easy to customize your choice prepared with high quality ingredients. Meat and bread is especially noteworthy. Dine In service comes with table delivery to your table. Server offers two options for catchup for to add to food. Trademark colors of orange and white create a bright open atmosphere. My favorite is Texas toast meat patty comes with grilled onions and plenty of melted cheese.

Jon C.

Yelp
As a Texas native, I love WB and have always had consistent food with a smile. Like many things in Georgia unfortunately, the staff is lacking, completley devoid of personality, pride and basic kindness - to say the least. Lazy, no enthusiasm, tarnishing the brand around every corner and "we are doing you a favor as you inconvenience us by interrupting my iPhone time. The location chosen is so incomprehensible - its like death race trying to enter or exit with a narrowed shared entrance. it feels like your watching a drug deal go down behind d a low class hotel near congress. The ordering experience is horrible, they could careless about you as a customer or the quality of their product. I am sure there are some great employees and I apologize that said may reflect on the few, but they may as well shutter their business in Georgia unless they staff from outside the state. There was such a marked change after the corporate openers left. Yet another disappointment delived to you by mediocre North Georgia.

Christopher H.

Yelp
Came to town to visit family - after a 3 hour drive, we tried Whataburger because of the hype on social media Took 30 minutes for 2 burgers/fries. They were relatively warm. Lacked any flavor. Maybe better than McDonald's but at least at McDonald's you get a cool happy meal toy (as a consolation prize) The unsweetened tea was terrible as though it was yesterday's Don't think this is a good place to try if you're wanting anything more than the typical fast food burger places offer

Georgia D.

Yelp
First off...I never leave reviews....so it's got to be really good or really bad for me to do so. After hearing all the hype I decided to give it a try. Drive-thru was not too crowded....ordered and waited about ten minutes to get to the window. Folks working the window were cordial. I ordered Coke Zero....once down the toad discovered it was a sweet tea. Poured it out and stuffed the cup in the trash. Bacon cheeseburger was heaping with chopped onions. I hate onions and didn't order them. I tried picking them off but the burger was soaked in ketchup making for a messy ordeal. Bacon looked like partially microwaved bacon. There was a thin slice of meat beneath the soggy tomatoes and lettuce. In the trash it went. Next up the fries. Honestly...they looked just like McDonald's fries. They have a "popcorn" aftertaste so I'm guessing they were fried in canola oil. Total damage: $11.12. I won't be going back.

Hillary T.

Yelp
If you liked eating at Whataburger in Texas... beware, you're not in Texas anymore. This isn't a Whataburger. This is the war for talent cleverly disguised as a quick service restaurant. We got in line at 11:45 AM with only 7 cars ahead of us. Ordered food for 4 people. Finally received our food over 45 minutes later. Several items were missing. Two burgers were wrong. When we sent one back, they brought another one, which was wrong in a different way. Finally said "forget it" and left with my wrong burger. A mile later, I realized they gave us a single napkin for four meals.

Barbara A.

Yelp
Whataburger came on the scene several months back. We waited until the made rush was over to try. Our first and only purchase, we had good service at Drive in window. Now for the burger, my partner who enjoyed his, stated he enjoyed the Serving and would try again. I myself was not as expressed. I do not like the bread, the burger was good, moist and portioned by price. However I found the bread to be greasy. I ended up eating on plate and discarded bread. Thank You. B A A Newnan Ga

Billy M.

Yelp
I agree in the beginning they had a hard time getting things worked out. However it is much better now. I been several times over the last month. Suggest you give them a second chance.

Courtney B.

Yelp
I'll never eat there or recommend anyone there anymore worst customer service experience everyone acts as if they outside in the streets taking order in the streets and not to mention they have 1000 peoples not in place over staffed and the work schedules ridiculous

Alicia S.

Yelp
Brand new store. Drive thru only. Worst burger ever had. Worked in restaurant industry for 28 years. No seasoning n patty was grey. Totally cold too.
google avatar

Dolly M.

Yelp
No no no, we need this place replaced with a shack shake!! Whataburger literally is a more expensive Mc.Donald's, food was cold when we received it & it was dry. This is the second time we tried it, in hopes of it being better the second time & N O. Service was good, food is a no. You can dine in & you can also drive thru!

Zach D.

Yelp
In their first week in business they have already become the WORST restaurant in newnan. Congratulations! No dine in or pick up so you wait for at least 30 minutes on the drive thru while watching 7-8 employees sit in the dining room on their phones or taking to each other. After you finally get your food you realize literally any other restaurant including McDonald's would have been better cheaper and easier

Gary G.

Yelp
Whatadisappointment is what this place should be called. I have tried to come here about 5 times and it has gotten slower and worse. Nearly everyone working doesn't care to do a good job. 100 percent this place will close in 1-2 years
google avatar

Sahana V.

Yelp
My whole order was wrong and the drive thur last taking orders was very rude! Food tasted horrible! I do NOT recommend this location at all!
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
Their food is great but they're parking and time of getting the food to you sucks. I just don't understand why they pick such small lots.

David M.

Yelp
I have never been to the new Whataburger in Newnan, and wanted to give it a try and will never come back. I waited for an hour to get my order. The burger was very good but not sure it was worth the wait.

Gone T.

Yelp
I just called the Newnan, Ga location to complain that my son got food poisoning there last night. I asked for the manager & was hung up on twice! The 3rd time someone said they were the manager & asked if we had any proof! I told them we don't run around making complaints but were doing so in case they had a bad batch & shouldn't feed it to someone else! Idiots! We will NEVER go near that place again!

RCR R.

Yelp
Burger was mediocre at best! The check out kiosk was not responsive, so we had to be checked out at the front of the fast food establishment. Will not return to this location anytime soon!

Joshua A.

Yelp
I ordered a salad, and not only did they leave out the dressing, but the lettuce and tomatoes were old. I'm never going back again.
