As we started passing this location en route elsewhere, we noticed the drive-through lines were almost nonexistent. Since I don't think I've ever eaten a Whataburger before, we decided to seize the opportunity and check it out.
Much like Chick-fil-A at their high volume locations, this place has two lines running with staff members in the lot taking your order long before reaching a menu board or a window. The drawback is not knowing what you want because you've not seen the menu before.
Yes, I typically investigate menus online prior to trying new places, but since this was an impromptu visit, I was completely in the dark. The woman taking our order did have a small menu on her person to show us, but turns out it is very limited.
Fortunately for me, I wanted to try the basics anyway so I was not perplexed by this.
The lines seemed to be advancing at a pretty good rate until we finally reached the actual menu board. From that point, it became a very long wait which was surprising. There were a few times where we considered to just drive away since it was taking so long -- I witnessed at least one vehicle doing this very thing, so I know it wasn't just us that felt it excessive.
Finally an employee came to get our payment and apologized for how long it was taking. We then got the card back and a receipt, then -- after what seemed like forever -- the food and drink were finally delivered along with another apology.
Sad thing? The food was really cold. Not even lukewarm -- solidly cold. How terrible to wait 30+ minutes for stone-cold food.
Between that and the inappropriateness of some of the staff, I am not at all in a hurry to return. There's no point in my telling you what I thought about the taste of the food because...it was cold.
Ok, fine.
It was alright, I guess. I can see why people might really like it...especially when it's at least a little warm. It vaguely reminds me of one of my favorite burger places in Seattle.
The one positive I can offer about this place is that the Coca-Cola is mixed just right. I consume soda very rarely these days and often find it not as great as I remembered it being...but that drink was delicious.
Other items of note:
The spicy ketchup is NOT spicy-hot (and I am a bit of a spicy-hot wimp), and I kinda like it.
I want to try this place again -- prolly in, like, a year or so when it's not so popular anymore -- to see what the food tastes like when it's warm.
