Prominant Black Chef Maxcel Hardy Has Died at Age 40 | Eater Detroit

"A long-anticipated neighborhood takeout concept devoted to boiled, fried, and grilled seafood that was planned to open ahead of the NFL Draft on a popular retail corridor; it was positioned as a convenient, seafood-focused spot for the local community." - Serena Maria Daniels

Chef Max Hardy Plans to Open Two New Restaurants in Detroit | Eater Detroit

"Planned as a more casual, neighborhood takeout spot along the Avenue of Fashion, What’s Crackin’ will launch initially as a pop-up this fall with an official opening slated for 2021; Hardy is collaborating with Ron Bartell on the project. The concept is devoted to boiled, fried, and grilled seafood with a particular focus on customizable seafood boils where customers choose the mix of seafood for their bag and select a sauce flavor. Hardy’s Chef Max Signature Spice Blends will be available, and the operation will have limited seating with the possibility of patio service next summer." - Brenna Houck

The spot wasn’t big on the inside but I loved the atmosphere. Inside and outside seating so you can spread out. Full bar with the best Bloody Mary we’ve ever had. Their vodka is infused inhouse. I tried a coffee with Irish whiskey (can’t remember the name) but it was delicious. Our server was Savannah and she was very helpful when it came to our questions and she was attentive. We got the sweet cream pancakes with fresh strawberries on top, eggs over medium, sausage links, biscuits and gravy with a side of hash brown and everything was amazing. We will definitely be returning.

We got seated on a Sunday morning and the place got packed pretty quick. Our waitress Savannah was nice and very attentive and suggested a couple goto options. I got the Banana pudding french toast which was good but even better when I put syrup on it . I want to try the chicken and waffles or the Carne asada omelette next time. My mom got the Southwest eggs Benedict with tots and she really like that. I also added eggs with cheese and bacon to my french toast and it was good. The Bacon stood out as really good and better than alot of other breakfast places bacon. I saw they had some good summer specials and happy hour deals all week that I want to check out including $1 ground beef tacos 4 to 9 on Thursdays. Definitely worth checking this spot out !!!

Neat breakfast spot in East Mesa. Staff was attentive, service was good. But food was lacking a bit. Had the southwest/southern omelet, very tasty. Tots were a bit overcooked but I do like them slightly crunchy. Had the avocado toast and was disappointed. Eggs were cold on top, bread was soggy by the time it got to me. But they comped it so that was nice of them. Overall good experience, decent food.

This is a somewhat hidden breakfast spot – surprisingly good, and fresh. This restaurant is multi-use and is active from early morning to late nights. From a breakfast perspective, it has a solid base of standard dishes. They are freshly made, with tasty produce, and served quickly. Based on the other patrons when we visited – this is a local favorite among several age groups. When I think about it: I think I would love to come back here on a night for the live music, and trivia.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a great spot! The food was awesome — fresh, hot, and full of flavor. You can tell they really care about what they serve. The vibe was chill and friendly, and Jordan took great care of us from start to finish. It’s the kind of place that instantly feels like a favorite local spot. Definitely coming back soon!

My family came here kinda on a whim and had lunch. Without planning we accidentally had a party of 9 and it was perfectly smooth. Food was great love their creations here. The Server/Bartender was very nice and had great energy with us. Though it's not often we make it to this place, it never disappoints for the size of the plates they serve us.

Jordan was the sweetest and best server ever! Love her! Her name is Jordan as in the River, I LOVE THAT! The food was amazing, especially the tater tots. What on earth is that unique spice on there??? I want to put it on everything!!! The atmosphere was so much fun with all the puppies and service was great! We will be coming back here often!

I rarely leave bad reviews, unfortunately, I need to do that today. I ordered the breakfast chimis and they were bland and underwhelming. Came with only sausage and scrambled eggs instead of with sausage, bacon, cheddar jack and eggs, as described on the menu. But the real reason I'm taking the time to leave a bad review is because of what I found after eating 2 of the 3 chimis; The Styrofoam container was melted badly, all the way through in one spot. Styrofoam, especially when heated, is an extremely toxic carcinogen, made more dangerous when paired with high fat content (deep fried). My food was placed on the bare Styrofoam while so hot, it melted the container significantly, releasing the chemicals into my food. Because I was eating while driving, I did not notice this until I had eaten 2 already. The 3rd chimi went into the trash when I got home. I beg the restaurant to PLEASE use a barrier before placing hot foods into Styrofoam in the future. Thanks.
