We saw that a band we've enjoyed before, Nina Speaking, was playing at What's Crackin Café, so we decided to check it out for dinner and live music. This was our family's first time dining here, and we were pleasantly surprised!
The café is smaller inside than I expected, with maybe 10 tables or less. It looked like there's normally outdoor seating as well, but with the storms that night it wasn't being used. They have garage-style doors that open to the patio, which I imagine makes the place feel much more spacious when the weather is nice. Since seating is limited, I'd recommend arriving early if you're coming for a band or event.
Our waitress was super friendly and gave us great recommendations. She suggested the burgers, saying they're juicy and the Monte Cristo. My husband had expected mostly breakfast food given the name of the café, but the menu has a lot more variety. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable compared to most restaurants these days. It was refreshing to see entrees under $15-20, especially for families. They also have a happy hour menu from 12:30 to close, Monday-Friday, with both food and drinks. The Happy Hour menu had a great selection that you could have a good dinner with just those choices if you wanted to.
We ordered the Monte Cristo, a 4-topping burger with fries, and a kids' cheeseburger meal for our toddler from the happy hour menu (only $8.50!). She's a picky eater but loved it and even finished the rest the next day. The Monte Cristo was exactly as described, a mix between a grilled cheese and French toast and so tasty. The burger was fantastic too. I loved that you can customize it with any four toppings; we chose a second patty, bacon, cheddar cheese, and grilled onions. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the fries were thin shoestring style with seasoning. Personally, I'd try them plain next time if that's an option, but my husband enjoyed the seasoning.
We also tried the pumpkin bread, which was delicious, super moist with the perfect pumpkin spice flavor.
Another big plus: What's Crackin hosts fun events like trivia every other Thursday and live music every Friday. Between the great food, affordable menu, and entertainment, we'll definitely be back to support this local spot!
