Southern comfort food, fried chicken, biscuits, cocktails, brunch

"This Southern fried chicken restaurant at The Shops at Willow Bend is a buzzy, family-friendly brunch spot where kids can play in the outdoor courtyard when they get too wiggly. The pickle-brined chicken is everywhere on the menu: We love it packed between buttermilk biscuits and topped with pepper jelly and honey butter in the Whistle Britches Sandwich. For a lighter lunchtime option, we go for the fried green tomato BLT, with thick cornmeal-dusted hot house tomatoes and a hefty spread of pimento cheese. And what’s a good brunch without a good cocktail? The Cantaloupe Frose takes like summer for grown-ups, and the Killa Bee, with gin, strawberry, and orange blossom honey, will have you quoting Steel Magnolias." - Erin Booke

"Hit this fried chicken favorite on the weekends for brunch, when the “WB” bloody mary is served. Spiked with Tito’s vodka, freshly made mary mix, and lime, this bloody mary is garnished with veggies, a fried chicken wing, and a hard-boiled egg." - Amy McCarthy

"At least a weekly go-to for takeout while we're up in Plano, Whistle Britches became a regular part of my rotation." - Amy McCarthy

"A newcomer from chef Omar Flores that focuses on Southern fried-chicken fare; the concept has expanded with a second location recently opened at the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano." - Alaena Hostetter

"I learned this week that Omar Flores’ fried chicken and biscuits concept has opened a second Whistle Britches at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano. The new location at 2405 Dallas Pkwy #4 debuted this week and is outfitted with patio seating, a large private dining room, a market selling to-go items, and a dedicated bakery for those famous biscuits and other baked goods. It’s been a big year for Whistle Britches — the restaurant previously appeared on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in 2018 — and the Plano hours are Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday–Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m." - Adele Chapin
