White Horse Tavern - Financial District

I love visiting Irish pubs, especially those that have such a rich history, like the White Horse Tavern. When entering, you are greeted so warmly by the staff, and the overall atmosphere of the bar is very inviting. Since I now work in the area, I stopped in just for a quick bite and drink, so I just ordered a Dark and Stormy, a Chicken Quesadilla, and the Onion Rings. Everything was really good and the prices here are very decent for this area. They have a good-sized food and drinks menu and plenty of seating on multiple floors. My server, who I unfortunately didn't get her name, was so nice and very attentive throughout my meal. I will definitely make it a point to come back again in the near future for food and drinks.

Hidden gem near battery park! Only peopl who knows come here. Amazing vibe, kind service, great quality and quantity of food and the price is unbeatable in this area, especially weekly lunch menus. They have really great lunch menu for burger, sandwich and platter that you can choose 2 sides from for 10$. And various drinks such as beers & cocktail to choose from. Highly recommended!

Worth your time if you're in Financial District: excellent food, good service & pretty good prices. A lunch for 2 with 3 beers was about $45. Tried: pot roast (excellent), knockwurst & sauerkraut (very good) paired with local draft Beer. P.S. if you're visiting in Winter - Fall, go for house special: PBR & shot combo for $5. PPS. This place has a music jukebox with access via cell - we had great time playing it. The cost is less than $1 for a song.

Had a great time there The vibe is lit. The food tastes pretty good and got some drinks on a good price. I recommend to have fish and chips.

Perfect little place to drink after exploring wall st / battery park / Statue of Liberty cruise. Wine measures are exceptional (the lady bartenders are our fave!!), food is fabulous and a perfect friendly atmosphere. The honey bbq chicken wings and mozerella sticks are 10/10! All at a great price. Thank youuu!

The bar is very conveniently located on the next block past the Hilton Doubletree, where we were all staying for the night.

Wow... I have walked past this place for the last 20 plus years... today, I was tired and hungry, and the first google search gave me the White House tavern.... what??? Oh no, sorry, the white HORSE tavern... let's go, wife said... great place! Food, ambiance, and DRINK! whiskey or tequila, wings burgers, and nachos a winner every time!

We were at White Horse Tavern on a very busy Friday night. The place was packed but we were welcomed and seated on the second floor. Our server was amazing and friendly. We love the historic building and you could clearly see who are the usual suspects which made it lively & fun. We ordered food & drinks and expected pub food but it was more than we expected. Overall, a great time was had!!

Cumulatively I have probably spent more time in my life inside this bar than any other single building. I was here constantly from 2010-2015 but since then it's been a visit every year or so as I have left the city. It's changed a lot in that time but almost entirely for the better. Drinks are still the cheapest in FiDi and much of the city, and it's great to see the expanded craft beer offerings even if they appear to be a touch more expensive than the taps they replaced. The expanded food menu is surprisingly good--the burger was not a reason in and of itself to come in, but very satisfying. The service is the reason you come: these are real people whose family calling is hospitality. Such a delight to see the place in such good form. Top recs: they pour Guinness correctly here, which half the Irish bars in the city can't be bothered to do. Also, $5 for a 16 oz PBR and a shot of Old Crow is incredible.

Not sure why I never tried this place. I sat at the bar since I wasn't sure if it was a seat yourself place. No big deal. I ordered a Diet Coke and I was given a can and a glass of ice. The bartender was so nice and friendly. She's probably the reason for the 3 stars. I ordered the pastrami Reuben. I was underwhelmed. I'm used to them being grilled. The rye was fresh but lightly toasted. The pastrami was thick but very gristly. I couldn't eat it as a sandwich. I couldn't bite through it. I ate the meat separately after cutting off the gristle. The sauerkraut had good flavor. I was disappointed in the execution. I did a side salad instead of fries. That was fresh and a decent size. What I really liked about this place is that there were a bunch of regulars and the staff addressed them by name. I would try it again but order something else. Or stick with drinks lol.

I went here on Valentine's Day with my mom to have an inexpensive dinner in a neighborhood we never really check out since we both live in Brooklyn and Queens, but the vibes there were so interesting/casual that I got the honor of celebrating my birthday at the White Horse Tavern AGAIN last night. Came with a group of about 20 with no reservations- there was a lot of moving around for us since I had to accommodate my party, but the staff was so patient/accommodating/AMAZING with my situation. Tom and Damian (I hope I spelled that correct) were AMAZING bartenders and made me feel like I was more than just a drunk girl at their terf. They were so delightful, enthusiastic and generous with the celebratory liquid gifts, and shared so much love with a little birthday stranger they had just met. I could go on and on... Thank you for all of the fun last night!! WILL be returning!!!!

This review is for the bar/tavern, we didn't have a chance to taste their food! Great cozy bar/tavern a block from our hotel. TV screens for sporting events (Dodgers World Series) throughout. Friendly, nice bartenders. The place is packed and busy from 4:00-7:00sh, located in the financial district/Wall Street so they get plenty of these guys/gals after work hours. Looking at the menu, typical bar fare but we didn't have any food.

It is a lively pub tucked away in the shadows of the financial district. Good spot to hit after a day at the Statue of Liberty.

A little late for this review but this week is the one year anniversary of my wedding and it reminded me. Picked this spot for the get together the night before my wedding as well as for our after party and the White Horse Tavern group hit it out of the park. We rented out the second floor space for my group and they comfortably fit 50 of us or so. Frank Gleeson answered all of my questions over many emails before the event. We ordered many trays of food for our guests which were very tasty and large enough quantities where everyone was satisfied. We supplied everyone an open bar for a couple hours the first night which was surprisingly very affordable. I just want to thank Frank and the White Horse team for helping me make the wedding weekend special as we were really struggling to find an affordable option in the area with a large enough space, open bar and food.

Stumbled upon this Irish gem that happened to be behind the hotel I was staying at. Felt like a "Cheers" bar where friends of all walks of life would walk in to enjoy the "Luck of the Ire." There I met a warm welcoming face of Ms. Samantha, Irish descent. Very kind and open to all topics of conversation. I truly appreciate you from start to finish. I wished I lived closer so I could make this bar my Go-To. This place also had $10 platters and I saw someone order the roast beef with mash.. I really wished I had gotten it because it smelled so good. Definitely a great place to have drinks at a decent price. I had gotten a cider for $6. My boo had bought his fav bar food which is Mozzarella Stick; he said they were good. This place has 3 levels and if you want to rent out their space for an event, it would be located on the 3rd floor. Thank you again Samantha for the hospitality.

Was in Manhattan for the day and it was the First time for me at White Horse Tavern. Such a friendly, fun, old school atmosphere. Service was amazing. Tom the bartender really took care of us and made some amazing cocktails including one of the best espresso martinis I had ever had! If in the area don't hesitate to visit! I will definitely be back some day!

Flew in late from Denver. Needed some good, late night NYC food. Service was so quick and everyone is just relaxed. A vibe.

Amazing Fish and Chips. A classic Tavern, interesting people, regulars, tourist and great bar staff.

Overall not a bad experience- the service was a bit slow, mostly because I hate being seated and then have to ask someone to come serve us because it's been so long. Husband and older kid got the burger and it was great! I got the southwest salad and it was okay and the Jumbo chicken wings were lost in the mounds of breading. Good spot convenient to tourist spots but no need to go back. Good vibe for a beer though. Definitely a London vibe.

It's a cozy old school type of bar located in the Financial District. Decent spot to grab an inexpensive beer, and tasty enough cheeseburger platter. Nice bartenders. Been here a few times after work, with a mix of regulars and tourists. I've also noticed some locals here who now live nearby as the area has developed more residential spaces.

Loved this place! It was so comfortable and festive . Tina took care of us and was awesome! She put credits on the Juke box and was playing great music . Food was really good and the drinks were going down very easy!!

Staff is great. Pricing is very reasonable compared to some other taverns I have been too. Never had issues with service even when a packed house. Overall, a good place to chill for the end of the day before heading home. They also know to properly serve a Guinness.

The white horse tavern's website says, "come have a pint" - and that is exactly what you should do. It's typically a fun bar with a friendly, local crowd. What you should avoid is any type of food, which is below even the low standards of "old New York pub." I ordered a cheddar cheeseburger and was punished with a fast-food quality sliver of "meat," on which was placed a raw slice of sweaty B-grade "cheddar." My colleagues ordered other items that similarly disappointed. The place was largely empty, making it challenging for our waitress to ignore us. Still, she triumphed and we waited endlessly for service responses. The good news was that the bill, when it eventually came, was dirt cheap. So, go for the brew - but ignore the burger.

We looked for a restaurant within walking distance of Battery Park after a trip to Liberty Island. 7 women from PA needed just a casual place to relax and have dinner. We had such a great time at the White Horse Tavern. The food was great, prices very reasonable, and best of all, our waiter Tom was awesome. He took care of us and even wanted to have his photo taken with us. Definitley recommend!

To Whom It May Concern, Best for late night dining, snacking, or drinking. Experience the vintage look of how old school Manhattan was like back then prior to the contemporary bar set up of today. Dive bar, but that is NOT an insult. Probably the cheapest place to go for drinks in Manhattan. Typical pub fair and a wide selection of beer to choose from. Where else can you get a 16- ounce-beer and a shot of bourbon for 5 bucks?! Boilermakers abounded that night. Friendly Irish bartender who took great care of us.

Solid bar near the ferry. We were there on a busy Friday night. Bartenders and servers did an excellent job handling the crowd. I had a delicious burger!

Tommy's Bloody Mary's are fucking delicious. love the White Horse, shot and beer are classic, cheeseburger and fries will never let you down. And they have touch tunes. 10/10

Small local pub was near our hotel and we decided to take a chance. Not good, not enough staff first off. Second the burger was a pre made frozen patty, really crummy low quality meat, the bun was ok but needed to be heated up. The onion rings were ok beer battered. The oddity was the Disco fries which had gravy and cheese, it was the best thing we had. Service was slow due to understaffing. Almost 100 for 2 adults and 2 kids .. Should have looked harder for a restaurant.

Reported them for violating my rights with my service dog with DOT paperwork. You have been reported and shame on you for treating someone with a disability the way you did. I will be following up on my report to the city. We came here on vacation with our service dog, who flys with us on all commercial flights and has all her paperwork. The line cook that was on duty should be fired, or else who knows you may have another federal situation on your hands. We are VISITING THE STATE. As stated below only dogs LIVING in NYC with their owners are required to have an ID. Next read below- A public accommodation provider cannot ask about the nature or extent of a person's disability and may not demand proof that the animal is certified. However, if it is not readily apparent that a dog is a service animal, they may ask, (1) if the animal is required because of a disability, and (2) what work the animal has been trained to perform. The business must allow the animal regardless of any stated "no pets" policy: a service animal is not a pet. Although some states have programs to certify service animals, certification is not required for a public accommodation. You guys really screwed up.

The Buffalo wings were A1! & surprised that the espresso martini was solid for a tavern. The crowd is mid, an older mostly white crowd but Would come back just for the wings.

Good beer, good prices, friendly service, literally inedible food - at least the reuben sandwich. Like another reviewer here, I simply could not bite into it, due to the tough, gristly meat. Flavors also off (weird cheese?), including the fries. Tried a couple bites, but left my sandwich uneaten and now, actually, feel a bit sick. Noticed a B rating as I left, so yeah, maybe stick to drinks.

Good happy hour spot if you work in the area! $6 beers...not bad at all. It does get crowded during happy hour and there are multiple floors. The wings are pretty good, a nice spicy kick to it! If you like decently/sorta cheap drinks and bar food then this is your place! This is more of dive bar, no frills place!

***3 1/2 stars*** White Horse has caught my eye a few times during lunchtime constitutionals, in part because it seems bizarrely out of place - it's an unapologetic dive bar with a ye olde porch in front tucked away on a side street in the Financial District. When I saw that they had legit lunch entrees for only $10, it was only a matter of time before I graced them with my presence. I came here for lunch a few Fridays ago on a very muggy/rainy day. I work less than two blocks away, so it seemed like one of my safer options in the event of a midday downpour (which I successfully avoided). I loved the atmosphere as soon as I stepped inside. The outside weather certainly played a part, but it's very cozy and transports you immediately to a different time/place. Either you're into establishments like this or you're not. At this point, I'd say it's my favorite environment I've encountered in this neighborhood. The place was decently populated - it clearly has a fanbase - but I caught the bartender's eye almost immediately and got a small table right by the window with a decent view of the rest of the bar and the gray, murky world outside. Also, every employee I talked to had an accent from the British Isles. Delightful. I've been fortunate enough to encounter great service almost everywhere around here, but this was right at the top of the heap. I ordered the Pot Roast Platter ($10! I know!), which came with mashed potatoes and corn. It was at the table within two or three minutes, tops. Obviously pre-made, but still super fresh. The pot roast itself was okay. It was juicy/tender and the broth it was cooked in provided some nice seasoning goodness for the palate, but the brisket had a lot of really fatty strips throughout that I had to cut off the meat before consuming. I was a big fan of the mashed potatoes though. Definitely one of the better foods to ingest on a gloomy day, especially when it comes with solid gravy. The corn was fine too, though if it were up to me I probably would have made the sides more of a 75/25 split favoring the mashed potatoes, but that's more about being pro mash versus anti corn. Although the bartender had his share of patrons at the bar, it wasn't difficult to catch his eye and obtain the check once my meal was consumed. Again, top-notch service from beginning to end - in and out in less than half an hour, effortlessly - and you're not going to find a more competitive price point for a sit-down meal in this area. I'm definitely going to come back, but I'll probably opt for a different entrée next time around.

I was recently in NYC for work... on my first evening, I was on my own in the Financial District, and was hoping to find a local pub with a good burger. Yelped it, and this place was less than 200 yards from my hotel...AND had good reviews..score! Popped in, and another score....Stella on tap! Things were lining up. After getting my Stella, ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries (shocker, I know). The burger showed up, and damn. Just damn. It was exactly what l was looking for...cooked to perfection, thick bacon, and crisp fries. Can't speak to the rest of the menu...but for a cold Stella, a burger, and fries....AND friendly service, this place is firing on all cylinders.

Reasonable drinks. Decent bar food. An old school bar. And, a nice alternative in this Fidi neighborhood

Good place to have a drink but not food. Pastrami was tough and cut thick on the Reuben. Buffalo cauliflower overcooked. Add the cockroach climbing on my bag and I would not return to eat.

If I could put 0 stars I would. We came on vacation with our DOT approved service dog that has all of her paperwork and were completely embarrassed by the line cook and the hostess that was on duty that day. We have already reported you to the attorney general and the city for violating our federal rights. You know how they say for every good experience you get a few referrals? Well because of this situation I will tell every single person that comes to New York to avoid your establishment. One bad experience and someone will tell the world. Horrible, rude staff. If you want good beer and great bar food come here! Staff are great which is a plus! On a quick trip and found this gold mine! Also not tourist pricy!!!

I really liked the old historic feel to this bar, even though I realize their other location has a lot more history. The bar was very busy when I arrived on a weekday afternoon, but managed to grab myself a seat. The two bartenders (male and female) seemed kind of miserable and overworked. They were attentive, but far from friendly or welcoming and never even smiled. I noticed the younger girl working the tables was much more friendly. I ordered a chicken wrap and although it tasted fine, it was mostly just filled with lettuce and maybe 3 small pieces of chicken in it. I noticed others have said the same thing. If I ever do return, I'll go for something different. Prices are reasonable and PBR tallboys are $4, which is a great deal. I also really enjoyed the music played in the background...mostly country and classic rock.

This was one of the most laid back places near the financial district New York. Me and my friend came to this place after some walk around the central park . Excellent place to have few drinks and dine in . The prices are really good and food provided is really fresh. Great place to come along with some friends for chat. The prices are essentially happy hour all the time.

What a great place to have a drink down in FIDI. Beers, including Guinness on tap, are 6$ all day. The entire bar is like a throwback to when pubs were places to eat, drink and be merry. They make everyone feel welcome. A neighborhood tavern in the financial district, never thought I would see that! Will be back soon.

Stumbled on the White Horse after nearly tripping on their happy hour sign! Great staff, interesting clientele and cheap drinks.

A great spot to grab drinks. We didn't eat any food so sadly cannot review that part. They had an all day happy hour which was great. The bartender was a very nice gentleman. We took advantage of happy hour and got beer and whiskey shots. The place is tucked away in a relatively quiet street and is perfect to go grab drinks with company.

By far, it is one of the best places in lower Manhattan! Tommy makes one hell of a drink.

Service was tremendous and onion rings good, but burger was dry and fish and chips. Mediocre at best. Great location, especially if you're just getting off the Statue of Liberty tour and want something quick to fill your bellies, but ...

It was so very delicious. If you come here you must try the burgers. So juicy and cooked to absolute perfection. And the fries were as well perfectly crispy and i had a party in my mouth the whole time.

Good was bland. Chicken wrap had no chicken. Pastrami Rueben was tough. Server sat us in booth next to bathroom and door of bathroom would hit our booth's bench. Servers were nice but it did take a while to get check and leave.

I stopped by this spot on a whim for a beer. The place gives me a dive bar feel. The bartender was nice & played Staind, so I could vibe a bit. The food is okay & they do have daily deals, so you can eat on a budget. Conveniently located on Bridge St near the R, 4, 5 & ferry. It will be a pit stop whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

3.5 stars My colleagues and I came here yesterday for our office holiday party. It was a lunch buffet style setup where we had appetizers, entrees, and cake. The party was held on the 3rd floor and the room was brightly lit and spacious. The food was good and I really like fried calamari appetizer, chicken marsala, and the cake. The only thing that I didn't like was that we had to wait an hour before the entrees were ready to be served. Our party time was from 1 - 4pm and the hot entrees wasn't ready until 2pm. At least the appetizers were already setup for us when we arrived. Overall, the service was still good here.

Great prices and a comfortable, grounded atmosphere make this a good choice for low key drinks after work. Service was good as well.
