Elevated sandwiches, burgers, salads & craft cocktails in historic cottage
"A historic miner’s cottage from 1883 may not scream lunch spot with a line out the door, but White House Tavern has held that title in Aspen for more than a decade. Operated by the ever-consistent Hillstone Restaurant Group, this tiny-but-mighty layout runs like a well-oiled (and very well-staffed) machine. The menu is tight, featuring menu items exclusive to this location alongside hits from across the Hillstone portfolio like the Macho Salad, Honor Burger, and that crispy chicken sandwich everyone’s Instagrammed at least once. There’s usually a wait, but the front porch and sidewalk benches are tops for people-watching." - Katie Shapiro
"White House Tavern, which is famous for their French dip and crispy chicken sandwich, nearly always has a line out the door. Trust us, it’s worth the wait." - Elise Taylor
"At the Aspen outpost of Hillstone Restaurant Group, you’ll find all of your familiar favorites from sister restaurants like Houston’s, R+D Kitchen, Honor Bar, and more. That might explain why the line outside of this miner’s cottage-turned-bistro starts before it opens for lunch every day. Get there 10 minutes before they open to secure a seat for the crispy chicken torta with swiss, tomato, and spicy slaw and some sides like fries and creamed corn for the table. You might be able to squeeze into the lively bar a little later on, but the best seats are by the central brick fireplace." - katie shapiro

"You can’t go wrong at a Hillstone Restaurant Group restaurant, praised by Bon Appetit in 2016 as the owners of “America’s favorite restaurant.” Since opening almost a decade ago in a historic miner’s cottage built in 1883, the always-busy White House Tavern has cranked out classics on a short-and-sweet menu. Go for the Macho Salad, Honor Burger, or crispy chicken sandwich." - Katie Shapiro
