"A massive new 66,000-square-foot Whole Foods opened Wednesday, April 27, in the One Chicago building at the corner of Chicago Avenue and State Street. In addition to local produce and meat, a prepared foods counter, a bakery, coffee bar, and, of course, groceries, this location will also contain a bar stocking 300 craft beers and 600 wines, supervised by two sommeliers. To celebrate the opening, the store will be matching 100 percent of the proceeds from local products purchased in-store through Sunday, May 1, and donating it to Lakeview Pantry. This Whole Foods has replaced a previous location on Huron Street. The opening coincides with the announcement that Whole Foods will be closing the Englewood location at Halsted and 63rd that opened in 2016 to great fanfare and with the help of $10.7 million in tax-increment financing: by offering grocery prices on a sliding scale, it promised to boost economic development in the neighborhood. A location in Lincoln Park near DePaul University will also be closing. Whole Foods Market, 3 W. Chicago Avenue, Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily." - Naomi Waxman

I visited this bakery today with the intention of ordering a cake for a birthday, as I had purchased several cakes and tarts the day before to test the flavors. However, when I went in today, the bakery staff informed me that they no longer accept cake orders in-store. The only regular round cake option available for cake orders on the website is the Berry Chantilly which is too sweet to me. I feel like I wasted both my time, money and health, especially after traveling between the store and home twice in extreme cold weather, just for a taste test. I avoid added sugar except for one bite of my birthday cake each year.

I had a fantastic experience at Whole Foods Market🤗 The store was incredibly clean and well-organized, making it easy to find everything I needed. The employees were really nice and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions👍 The food selection was fresh and of high quality, from the produce to the bakery items. Shopping here is always a pleasure because of the excellent customer service and the high standards of cleanliness and product quality. I highly recommend Whole Foods Market for a superior grocery shopping experience🔥

Google
I have rated this Whole Foods multiple times, which is only four blocks from my home so it is very convenient and provides most of our grocery needs. They offer an excellent selection of fresh fruits and vegetables both organic and non-organic plus hot and cold ready to eat foods and much more. My complaint is this location stopped local sourcing my favorite sourdough bread from La Fournette.

The cashiers here are all so slow... I didn’t even pick the person with “in-training” sign and I had only 2 people before me both with only one basket of goods when I joined the line but waited for almost 15 minutes… This happened more than once for me already. Definitely use the self checkouts if you don’t have hard to find items like vegetables I highly recommend management here establish some performance metrics for the cashiers. I’ve never seen something like this at other supermarkets or even other Whole Foods.

Google
I came here for the cafeteria style food, which has a larger than expected amount of options. I got a variety of food, which you put in a box and then at the self checkout gets weighed and you pay for by the pound. It’s very easy for the price to hit around $30 especially if you come here hungry. Definitely worth it though, the quality of food was better than I anticipated and it lasted me two meals. Would definitely recommend for an easy meal that tastes good. The location is also very convenient, I’m not sure the parking situation as I walked.

Normally I have good experiences with whole foods however this store the ll right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Told placing an order for a cut of meat with get you that cut and it mostly likely won't be there to call in day of our two days before. Call in told they won't pull a cut off the shelf and hold for you like it would be great you placed an order for it. Nothing done to resolve the issue. Being told you have them there but they can't rather won't take it to the side with your name for pick up later that night is pretty asinine and incompetent. They really need to get together and know their policy and make sure everyone follows says policy when it's in place. Another issue is reoccurring is items are never stocked and no one will help to see if it's out of stock or just not on the shelf. Brownie bar is priced four for x amount you buy four but didn't get the discount because they are all individually packaged but still labeled four for... this is obviously over charging everyone who buys four thinking they are going to get the discount. Either give the discount or take price tag off offering the discount. Get it together. Smaller businesses you never get treated this way... Time for a switch. Sorry Amazon...

If this was a one time thing I would not say anything about it… but it’s ALL THE TIME. Being we pay premium prices at Whole Foods I think that means they need to hold themselves to higher standard in all areas. I live nearby and when I tell you the pizza always looks like this, the pizza always looks like this… Whoever’s monitoring the pizza bar should be fired because it’s absolutely unacceptable that anything like this should be sitting out thinking that somebody wants to spend money on it Absolutely horrible. And to top it off when I politely asked the gentleman behind the counter if any more cheese pizza was coming up he shot me a look like he wanted me to die where I stood lol Edited my review to add in another slice of pizza that I just saw today even though my original review was over two weeks ago… Obviously they do not care to make any changes and the pizza is soooo soggy on the bottom. I mean seriously Whole Foods is that difficult to put out decent pizza ? Edited yet again.. 2/22/25 OMG… It’s just pizza it’s not rocket science can you guys stop putting out crap?? Sheesh

Yelp
Whole Foods Chicago Ave. - A Truly Exceptional Shopping Experience Whole Foods on Chicago Ave. exceeded all of our expectations and reminded us why we love shopping here. First, their parking garage with free validation for 90 minutes was a huge plus--such a convenient and thoughtful feature, especially in a busy city like Chicago. From the moment we entered, we were floored by how immaculate the store was. Every shelf was perfectly stocked with high-quality produce, a wide variety of foods, household items, wine, and more. This location is impressively large, so be ready for an extensive selection of delicious and top-tier products to choose from. We currently live in an area without a Whole Foods, so it was a treat to stock up on items we've been missing. The level of care and pride this location takes in its products, store upkeep, and overall service is truly commendable. If only every store operated with this level of excellence! Highly recommend stopping by this Whole Foods for an exceptional shopping experience.

Yelp
ANTS crawling over the donuts in the pastry case! There was no one around to contact for help; I left and emailed the store. I never heard back.

Annie K.

Yelp
Easy free parking with validation, good service, clean, usually has everything I'm looking for.

Araceli C.

Yelp
I was looking for bday cake to my son, and I found this berry berry Chantilly Was really good. I like this location Next to the train

Steve C.

Yelp
I've enjoyed the quality foods for a few years, enough to pay the relatively high prices. However, with the election just passed, I find that I can no longer continue to pay for food knowing that my money has helped to usher in what may be the end of our democratic system of government! I have always believed that I should "vote with my dollars"; therefore, I will no longer patronize Whole Foods. I would suggest that all Americans should follow me and push back wherever we can. Even though I want to turn off any News and "cover my head," that would be just surrendering!

Sonia A.

Yelp
I'm in awe of how huge this Whole Foods is! It is 2 stories and has a bar on the second floor which I have never seen at a Whole Foods before. It is super clean and the staff is really friendly and helpful! You can easily get there on the train and enjoy other places around the area. My family and I enjoyed the view from the second floor while having our delicious meal. I had a salad from the salad bar and a soup. The food looked fresh and there was a big selection to choose from.

Marcy B.

Yelp
Not sure how this is still open. Terrible layout. Many shelves half empty. Worth it to drive to Kingsbury store. No comparison.

Christina S.

Yelp
I enjoy this new Whole Foods Location. It is quite a large space with many offerings. My New Favorite Find: Red Peruvian Pearl Peppers at the Olive Bar Area! Small oval shaped balls bursting with a smokey and slightly sweet flavor. Perfect for a charcuterie board, in salads, on pizzas, added into giardiniera, the sky is the limit with options to enhance a dish of your choice! See the pictures. The helpers at the checkout lanes are stellar. Issue to Be Addressed: At times it appears that only one or two cash register lanes are somewhat staffed and open to "check out" customers. Therefore, the wait times and lines are LONG especially when people get out of work. There are on or about 6 individual cash register lanes which could be made available; however, it appears there is never enough staff to provide this service to waiting customers who just want to pay and leave.

Sonia A.

Yelp
Great hot bar. It's a no brainer for when you can't think of what you want. Self checkout so great service.

Katerina R.

Yelp
This is my local Whole Foods and I love it! Everything is always in stock and I can always find an employee to help me with something. The Amazon return line is never too long, as well as the Whole Foods service desk. Lines to check out are always quick too. And, can we take a moment to talk about the coffee bar? Love Whole Foods coffee- it's delicious and the staff there are always very kind!

Simmon C.

Yelp
I live in the building (One Chicago) and I frequent this Whole Foods store at least once a week. Everyone in the store is quite nice, friendly and helpful, I love most of the employees here! However I often come in the mornings when a woman, I believe her name is "Justice" works, not sure how she got to be in a customer service position, she is extremely rude. She makes you feel like a burden with her sarcastic attitude. I've found her tone of voice and demeanor to be so disrespectful, that I'll go through the self check and have to bag my own groceries (which I hate ) to avoid her at the register. The second thing I hate about this store is the long lines at every department, if I want meat, I'm waiting 5-10 minutes. If I want prepared foods I'm waiting 5-10 minutes, if I'm checking out it may take 5-20 minutes!!!! Whole Foods needs to hire more people. Third thing I hate is that the selection of prepared foods and hot bar items have gotten worse in quality and in selection, it used to be much better, not sure why there's been such a decline. And recently the bakery has been severely under stocked, my favorite pies are often not there.

Michele M.

Yelp
The service is horrible. I was there during the busy lunch hour on a Tuesday where the prepared food and seating area is and not a single self-service register was open. Of the 10+ other registers in the middle of the store, only 2 were open and the bar hours didn't open until 2pm. It's like the lights are on but no one is home?? Where are the employees? It's a great looking store and I really wanted it to be "the" store we continue to go back to. But the service is intolerable!

D. M.

Yelp
Horrible. Went to self-checkout due to long lines and my App didn't work and said to ask an associate for help to get my Prime Discount. I asked the associate, Sandra, who said she couldn't help me. So, I grabbed all of my groceries and headed to the long lines - I didn't raise my voice, or do anything provoking other than to mutter 'this is insane!'. She called security on me and I got to be 'watched' the 20 minutes while waiting to pay for my melting food. I would have left but I parked there so I had no choice but to wait to pay for my stuff. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Cynthia H.

Yelp
The design of this new store doesn't have the original thumbprint of a Whole Foods Market. Overall the style it is a bit plain and non-descript, but it works here and I like it. Of course there are new additions and changes from the old 30 W Huron location. This store comes with a lot of amenities, such as a coffee bar on the ground floor and a cocktail bar on the second floor which overlooks Chicago Avenue. The hot food bar, located as soon as you exit the escalators, is BIG and spacious with more prepared foods along the wall. And you can purchase a meal from the hot bar and take it to the cocktail bar to accompany your meal with a glass of wine or alcoholic beverage of your choice (for purchase). Another huge upgrade from the old store to the new is the bakery section, which is at the opposite end of the store, and is so big you feel like you are in a storefront bakery compared to 30 W Huron. They have a couple of sommeliers on site to help with your wine selection(s) and an easy to get to Amazon returns and drop off. Parking is validated for 90 minutes with a $10.00 minimum purchase.

Heather V.

Yelp
Bakery is back!!!! So refreshing to see this location with a fully stocked bakery. I was able to get my parfait cups and some vegan and flourless options for my colleagues. The women on this team were so kind to me when I asked for help on deciding sweets and they were kind enough to direct me to the check out area as it was my first time being at this location in a while. Seriously excited to be a regular customer here again, the bakery looks beautiful.

Rhonda F.

Yelp
I am so happy we have a new Whole Foods in our neighborhood. I stopped in to pick up a few things and found the new store be bright and refreshing. Everything was well stocked and looked very attractive. As always, their floral department was beautiful. I entered the store from the free parking garage and not via the escalator. I had to ask where the hot & cold bar was located. It is tucked away around the corner from the flowers. While the store is not actually that big, it doesn't feel cramped and crowded. The price point is a bit higher than a traditional supermarket, but I know I am getting high quality options that suits me. They had everything I needed and a few things I bought - just because.

Paul M.

Yelp
I've been a customer for decades and was happy to hear this WF opened a block away from my home. I've been paying exorbitant prices all these years and up until recently when WF was bought by Amazon the products were great and I can afford the high prices. BUT, this location is so terrible that I now drive to Lincoln Park when I want to go to Whole Foods. This location has to be the worst of all of them. The last time I was in this location, the fish was so gray and it smelled horribly. I walked out and went yo Hewel and the fish was much, much better and half the price. Because I wanted to get something quick today , I went to the prepared food section at this location to buy prepared London Broil. As seen in the picture that I took, the London Broil should've been thrown out two or three days ago. It was completely gray and should never be in the display case. I complained to the guy behind the counter and he told me that, it's not his call when things should be thrown out. I discussed this with the store manager and showed him the picture that I took and he agreed. I told him that he should walk over to the prepared food department and just look at the crap that they are trying to sell. Remember, this is supposed to be a high-end store and the prices reflect it. However, buyer-beware. Whole Foods, at least at this location, high-end crap. And, don't get me started on some of the produce that was spoiled.

Bob P.

Yelp
The food bar area is a joke. I regularly have to fight with them to get olive oil for my salad and most recently was told by a deli worked they cannot chop up my small chicken breast for me "for liability reasons". You are a fricking DELI!! These people just don't care here. Good knows what goes on in the back. Stay clear.

K G.

Yelp
Who in God's good name manages the store? Burnt pizza all the time, rotisserie chickens that are so dried out from sitting out so long that the bones disintegrate, and either the coffee shop is five people deep with one person working behind the counter and it takes forever OR it's five people deep with one person working behind the counter only for them to tell you once you get all the way up to order your beverage that the espresso machines is broken... again. Like you can't put a sign out so people don't just sit there forever waiting? Whoever manages the store needs to find another profession.

B M.

Yelp
Prices are through the roof here and quality has gone down. Meat department is always scarce. I used to love baguette from the bakery, it's not even baguette. The French would be offended. Every team member seems bothered if you ask a question. I'll go out of my way not to shop here and I'm across the street.

Scott D.

Yelp
Today, I stopped by this Whole Foods for the first time. I live in the suburbs now, but when I lived in the city, the Gold Coast location was on Huron St. I was very impressed with the new location. The store was very clean, organized, and well-stocked. The employees I interacted with were all smiling and friendly, and Tamia was a great cashier. I'll definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.

Jasmine C.

Yelp
A beautiful new wholefoods that replaced the older smaller one down the street . It's always a pleasure to shop at wholefoods. Everything is arranged beautifully in color coded sections and a bountiful variety of foods from local farms . This store reminds me of the store in Lincoln park. I think the lay out is pretty nice with bakery on the first floor and the rest of the goodies on the second floor. I do think wholefoods should open up a store in central loop ( such as wholefoods express) as it would be popular with office peeps:)

Bernie C.

Yelp
Large grocery store - replacing the location on Huron. With such a huge real estate, I wish they offered more of their Food Hall model here, as the one in Lincoln Park. A lot of to go food in buffet option though. The design is very much on trend. Large assortment of produce. Very great selection of personal care / beauty. Team seemed nice. Main shopping is on level 2 and there is parking.

Claire L.

Yelp
I was super excited to hear that a new Whole Foods was opening in the Gold Coast/River North area, especially since there aren't too many big grocery stores around. The store layout and design is spacious and modern, with lots of indoor seating to enjoy a coffee (on the first floor) or prepared foods (on the second floor). The store features a bakery with a wide pastry/dessert selection and there are some other cool options, such as the ability to freshly press your own bottled orange juice! Great store for anyone looking to get fresh groceries or a quick meal!

Miriam W.

Yelp
Very nice new space in the shiny 1 W Chicago building. The entire first floor is dedicated to coffee and seating, shopping is on the second floor, with parking access on the third and fourth floors. Restrooms are on both the first and second floors. The shopping is a definite improvement over the old Whole Foods on Huron, with an impressive selection of everything the brand offers and wider aisles. The cold and hot prepared food bars are quite splendid looking, and I'll be grabbing lunch here regularly. This new location is steps from the Chicago stop of the red line.

Susan B.

Yelp
Whole Foods at One Chicago is TERRIBLE. Food, service, and quality are the worst. Staff is embarrassed to represent this awful store. Management needs to be replaced. Expired food whether vegetables, fish, meat, cheese... The old store on Huron was better!

NaywriChi W.

Yelp
The one on 30 W. Huron is moving into this new location which is part of the One Chicago resident complex. This is bigger with two floors. Staff and service is superb. PS. The Restrooms on the first floor requires a code, the ones on the second don't. Also, complimentary parking for 90 min.

Marj S.

Yelp
A voyage of discovery!!! There is always something to find and try that is " new to you ".

Rahul G.

Yelp
Vast selection of healthy foods, free wifi, areas to work and study, helpful employees, and clean restrooms. I couldn't ask for more!

Gail J.

Yelp
Henry and Ronald are excellent at filleting fish and extremely helpful in making my selection. I would highly recommend asking for them if you are in the market for fish.

Foodie F.

Yelp
Most of the food is overpriced. Food is high quality though. Service is speedy. I love the new Whole Foods because it has a great building and parking. The dining area is spacious. But why the bathroom code?????????

Free A.

Yelp
This store doesn't have an open layout, much harder to navigate than the old store on Huron. The fresh produce section is more cramped especially for such a large space. It seems this store caters more to people who buys prepared foods and dry goods. I don't see many old staff from the Huron store . The people working the registers are still learning. Last time I was in the store, the person actually made a phone call during the check out process while I stood waiting. When I looked at him incredulously, he said, "it was just a quick call." Unbelievable! Lastly, I wish they post a large and clear sign to say "No pets allowed, but service animals are welcome" like some other Whole Foods stores that have a huge poster displayed on a sign stand at entry. They have a small one posted on the window along with many other notices that no one sees or reads. Having a visible sign about the pet/service animal policy could have eliminated some complaints.

Sherri D.

Yelp
This may be the worst Whole Foods i've ever been to. I had a really high hopes because it's new! Granted I did pop in for exotic things like kale and yellow onions and dried white beans. Those items and nearly everything else on my list not available. The produce area is so tiny that I thought I must be missing a section of the store. The store team member I chatted with was very nice but confirmed the fresh foods area is extra small. Everything I was looking for that they don't carry is a common item I've purchased dozens of times at WF. When I couldn't find groceries for dinner, I moved on to the hot bar which had not a single plant-based entree so no-go there either. Then I wandered over to the Service Desk to ask about all of the items I couldn't find. It's not that they were out, they're not being stocked. The store has been designed with over 90% of the floor space devoted to prepared and processed, frozen food etc. Very little availability on fresh ingredients to cook meals with. The produce they do have is smaller and more narrow of a selection than at any neighborhood Jewel. The WF on Huron that closed to make room for this one had a better selection, as does the one in Streeterville. It's really ironic that the stores name is Whole Foods because there really are not many whole foods inside.

Anna D.

Yelp
NOT service dog friendly. I stopped by for a few quick things with my service dog and was harassed by a security guard and basically forced to leave the bakery section. I said clearly that it was a service animal and he continued to talk down to me about the way I was shopping. Appalling behavior and treatment, and I'm usually pretty laidback. I will not be returning to any Whole Foods, considering they clearly failed to teach their staff any sort of manners or disability training. Maybe they're unaware that I now have material for a lawsuit. What a shitty experience. An even bigger note, honestly, is the store is not laid out to be disability-friendly, either. Everything is narrow, so if two people pass each other, you're bound to bump shoulders. My dog became anxious and wasn't able to walk beside me like she usually does.

Gus M.

Yelp
Always been a Whole Foods lover, been to all three locations here in the river north area. I'm from Michigan and they still have all the items I expect for them to have. Best market of all time, couldn't recommend enough

Christian C.

Yelp
Store is great but word of advice... Don't get the 365 organic Mango Lemonare. It tastes great but leaves horrible orange stains on my hands and anywhere else it lands. I wonder how organic it is...

Alyse A.

Yelp
For being brand new and deeming itself a "flagship", this is easily the worst Whole Foods in Chicago. Not only is it always congested due to the structure of it being narrow, they don't even carry a fraction of the things that other Whole Foods in Chicago carry. Sub par wine and beer stock, no breakfast burritos - the smaller and previous version on Huron had a greater selection. I live across the street and walk to the Streeterville one because this one sucks.

Octavia S.

Yelp
They couldn't "cut" the bone in rib-eye over an HOUR before closing because the equipment had "already been cleaned" ... there were no slices prepared in advance or anything... I came all the way out there to stare at dinner and not eat it

Aracely C.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick coffee from the coffee shop and green juice from the store. Very convenient and clean. Love the fact that you can run down the street to pick some groceries and go back to your home in less than 20 minutes just by walking. We were able to find what we needed, well-stocked and the easy to check-out.

Deb W.

Yelp
I've been shopping at Whole Foods for decades and have lived in several cities so I have a bit of experience with the grocery store. I Recently moved to the Gold Coast and was so excited to try out the recently opened store. Unfortunately, it is very disappointing! The Store lax the variety of groceries offered compared to many of the other stores, the Layout is horrible, but the worst part of all, many of the employees behind the service counters are unfriendly and appear as though they don't want to help you, specifically the deli and seafood counter. I highly recommend the Kingsbury Whole Foods location!! That store knows what they are doing!!

Gigi S.

Yelp
Thank God this place opened. It's a unique store. Love the layout. Not the usual old Whole Food layout either. It has everything and then some. Huge parking lot also and places to sit and eat inside also. GREAT!!

Lisa A.

Yelp
Huron location was managed terribly and this one is designed *and* managed terribly. What a waste of space.
