Syrian Chicken Shawarma Arrives at a Foggy Bottom Food Stall - Eater DC

"Foodhini, a D.C.-based delivery service that works with immigrant and refugee chefs, has partnered with Whole Foods to open a food stall at the Foggy Bottom location near George Washington University (2201 Eye Street NW). Majed Abdulraheem, a refugee who fled Syria with his wife and two daughters, is the first chef to fill a three-month rotation at the new location. Open Monday through Friday for lunch, Abdulraheem is selling chicken shawarma wraps with a side of hummus and jarjeer (arugula) salad for $10." - Gabe Hiatt

I don’t visit this Whole Foods Market often, but it’s always an interesting experience when I do. Located in the unique Foggy Bottom neighborhood, this two-level store offers a variety of items you may not find on previous trips. It’s an interesting layout that takes a little time to get used to. The staff here is friendly and always willing to help, making the shopping experience more enjoyable. As with most Whole Foods, the prices are comparable to any other store in the chain, but it’s worth it for the quality. The store seems to be popular with local college students and nearby office workers. They have a great selection of fresh produce, meat and fish, bakery items, and prepackaged foods. The Foggy Bottom Metro is a short block away. Definitely a solid spot to check out if you're in the area!

Best store in town. Wide variety of products for all tastes and pockets. Loved the fresh food you can purchase and consume in the cafeteria available for the customers. Very good quality for fair prices.

I’ve been shopping at the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods for six years because it’s the only real grocery store in the neighborhood, and the best way I can describe it is utterly dysfunctional. If this store were a nation, it would be a failed state. Basic items like half and half are routinely out of stock. The produce is appalling (moldy tomatoes and rotten peppers are the rule rather than the exception). Products are regularly sold beyond their expiration dates. The deli is open arbitrary hours that seem to change based on whenever someone feels like staffing it, and even when it is theoretically open good luck finding someone to help you. And of course, there are the lines; waiting 20 minutes is normal, but waiting 40 is certainly possible on any given day. The root cause of these problems is obvious: neither management nor staff cares one iota about the quality of their work or the customer experience. They simply don’t. Whether you’re trying to purchase from the deli, the bakery or the coffee bar, there’s a sense that you are inconveniencing them; at the cash registers, staff sometimes refuses to speak to you. The consistent level of rudeness is surprising even by DC standards. Still, one could write this off if the store delivered on its mission to provide fresh, high-quality groceries. It doesn’t. Every single shopping trip is a hassle. And the truth is that it’s never going to change, because this store is the only option other than Trader Joe’s (which offers mostly prepared and packaged foods). Given that, there is no reason for me to write this review. You, dear reader, are still going to shop there. Just like me. Still, I feel the need to express the degree to which I find shopping at this location to be a miserable, frustrating and disheartening experience — one that often leaves me thinking about what exactly is wrong with society. May 2023 update: They have given up and completely closed the deli. RIP cold cuts. April 2025 update: Added a photo of rotting peppers. Years later and we're still stuck in grocery hell.

Google
Nice location, clean and organized. The registers to checkout are upstairs and main shopping is downstairs so not super handicap friendly but still what you expect from a product assortment at Whole Foods. Also found some interesting raisins and almonds here.

Google
Be careful using your credit or debit at the self checkout. Mine was charged twice and the young lady told me it wouldn’t happen. Took me to her register for a third attempt that went through as well. Asked for a manager to discuss the issue . They called and no manager to be found or respond. An assistant manager wandered to the front by happen stance and just said wait and if they don’t drop off i physically have to bring a bank statement in to show . The two cashiers said it happened to another customer yet the same register was still being operated. I stopped one customer before her money was taken as it gave the same Message to her as to me. Don’t use the self checkout and check your bankcard before leaving . I asked for a manager to call me that was 8 hours ago and no call. Update: All charges finalized and the store will not work with me electronically and denied the charges when i i attempted. Found out from corporate there is a way electronically to recover money . Don’t use credit cards at foggy bottom only cash or human. The worst

Super Fantastic 🤩 I have never had a shopping 🛒 experience like this before! All of the different varieties of foods made available for your selection. The opportunity to eat a healthier diet, with more selection. That also includes skin and hair care products. Top of the line with competitive prices. Give your body a break 💔 and visit whole foods.

We were on foot, easy in and out. They do validate parking, if you drove. Two stories, with an escalator, stairs and elevator. I found all the gluten free items and fruits i was looking for.

Yelp
I like this location. They used to have a wonderful hot / cold food bar section. Wonder if that'll ever return? They made it easy for the lunch / business / student crowd to simply stay on one level to grab and go. Pre covid, I barely even ventured down the escalator. Post covid, you're kinda forced to as it's moderately a ghost town on that upper level. Nonetheless, a really good selection of local products and varied offerings, such as the Mac & cheese section and the elderberry tonic section, to name a few. Wish this were here when I lived in Foggy Bottom! Boy has the neighborhood changed since then with the only takeaway place bring the 7-11, which is ironically still there.

Yelp
Having traveled the US extensively, and having used Whole Foods as a beacon for local offerings and quality food, I can honestly say that this location (out of the dozens I have visited) is one of the saddest. Now, I recognize that running a WFM within a city center has its challenges, but compared to other WFMs in other city centers (such as NYC), this location takes the cake for low performance. Where do I begin: Let's start with the continuous reduction in offerings. I remember how the prepared food on the first level was robust and there were significant offerings such as burritos, sandwiches, hot and cold bars, pizzas etc. Now just a sad hot/cold bar and ditto for the pizza bar. I recognize that this is an Amazon-wide initiative to cut costs, but for goodness sake, please bring back something in the empty space! It continues to look depressing when you walk in. Next is the service. Never anyone around (again to save costs) and overworked and/or apathetic employees. I once was in the ice cream section in the basement and there were two WFM employees shopping for ice cream. They had multiple freezer doors open at the same time - allowing the ice cream to melt, laughing for a few minutes and paying no attention to the few people who were trying to shop there as well. Rude for a customer to do this, and even worse for the employees to be doing so. Local products anyone? Probably the least representative of local products. Other than the beer selection and occasional seasonal fruit offerings from my experience. In other locations, the local offerings are proudly displayed and numerous. Again, this is the Amazonification effect, but this location still shows no pride. Lastly is the location. Again, I fully understand the challenges with this location. It is a split-level site, and next to the Metro, which explains the challenges with the layout and theft. I have witnessed theft on a couple of occasions, and this is a difficult reality. The part that I struggle with is the facility itself. I have gone down to the basement and it smells poorly - not infrequently. I am sure that it is a product of the building, but still offputting. Also, the facility just doesn't sparkle like the other locations. I am not sure if it is just in need of a renovation, but everything just looks tired and an afterthought, such as the seating areas and the empty food offering on the first floor. COVID wasn't nice to any company, but it seems to have hit hard here - even if you compare this to other WFM across the country. I know I am just one voice here, but hoping to call attention to a location in need of much love.

Yelp
I don't go to high-end grocery store to spend $300 so that I can bag my own. This place is run like a canteen. Most of the time the workers are all Chitty-chatty with each other, management is nowhere to be found, they think everyone wants to bag their own groceries, Trader Joe's here I come !

Yelp
Whole foods did contact me and apologized. Said they would investigate and refund the hot food purchases. Said they would refund the purchase, dont think that happened though.

Yelp
My go-to place for wild harvested seafood, always a great selection. Fair prices.lots of bulk products and love their 360 brand

Yelp
Convenient located near my hotel, I came here for some dinner (general preference over restaurants even when I am travelling on business). Surpisingly the packaged sushi was decent, more than the hot/ cold bar. Prepared pineapple was sweet. Quality of stuff needs to be checked carefully as I was about to purchase some cubed cheese that appeared moldy. Actually half the stock seems to need replacing. Thankfully a cheese monger actually cutting the same cheese went to the back and gave me a new container. Hopefully it will last.

Yelp
I have been coming to this place for literally years and I still can't get enough of it. There are many things that I love about this store. Here are some examples. The salad bar, the hot bar, and the enormous amount of produce that they carry. Even though the hot bar is wildly expensive it still has an incredible selection. I came here this evening hoping to get some of that but but unfortunately I just missed it because the close at 8pm. Instead I decided to go for the spinach feta orzo pasta salad that is already prepared. I had actually tries this dish before and it is quite delicious. The next thing that I picked up a 52 ounce container of Uncle Matt's organic orange juice. I try to get this orange juice every time that I come here. Finally I set out on my desperate search for Cherimoya which is an exotic fruit from South America. They actually sold this fruit here several years ago, and I have been hoping and praying that it would reappear. I asked an employee who was working on the produce department and he had never heard of it either. Nevertheless it's a great store and I will always come back here.

Yelp
This is a clean Whole Foods store. However, its customer service was alright. The cashier that rang me up was good, but the deli and coffee staffers were preoccupied and appeared to be bothered by shoppers like me.
google avatar

Orest S.

Yelp
This one is not typical. The first floor is kinda food court. But there's a -1 floor which is a market. Also, up and down escalators are in opposite sides of the store. Not sure about the service, as I used the self-service cashiers.

Yelp
This is one of the nicest Whole Foods I have been to, unfortunately the service was the worst I've ever had. I only went to the first floor because I was craving something sweet from the bakery around 7 PM at night on a Monday. Most of the popular bakery items were out of stock (i.e. berry chantily cake and tiramisu) at this time of night but other items like cookies, macarons and cheesecakes were still available. I grabbed a Berry Chantily cupcake and it was the worst I've had. Not sure if each Whole Foods make them differently but the frosting on this cupcake tasted like butter and sugar and not like the usual frosting from the Whole Foods back home. Looking around I could see that the store was well stocked and had a lot of options. It even had different stations for food options such as sushi, pizza, sandwiches. For a Whole Foods, this was one of the best ones I have seen and really catered to the population of students. However, I would not frequent back because the service was terrible. A self-checkout machine was broken and looked like someone scanned two items and left. One of the cashiers came by to fix this machine and kept grilling the person checking out at the next machine if he had used the machine and broke it. The person was visibly uncomfortable, but the cashier kept asking questions. The cashier that checked my item out was also unfriendly and off-putting. I greeted with "hello, how are you?" and she just glared at me like I just insulted her. This is uncommon for any Whole Foods I have been to.
google avatar

Alice J.

Yelp
The self checkout is a huge improvement. Tried it for the first time. Loved it. Fast. Seamless. No finicky errors (like other supermarkets) that always require an employee to come trouble shoot (kiosks falsely accusing customers for not scanning an item or saying the weight in the basket is incorrect, etc)

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Clean location that's two floors. Avoid coming here during the weekday lunch rush if you are trying to take your time and walk through all the isles. Convenient location to Dupont and foggy bottom metros. Also, the hot bar is quickly stocked when items are running low.

Paul V.

Yelp
Ordered 2 items online for pickup. I had to wait in line for almost 30 minutes to get my items from customer service. SLOW SLOW SLOW. This Whole Foods is a cluster for so many reasons. The customer service is almost as bad as the Georgetown Safeway. In addition, parking is I'm possible. To make matters worse, when I arrived home, I noticed the eggs I bought had an expiration date of Nov 24.

Yelp
I was really impressed with this particular Whole Foods Market. My husband and I were looking for a quick lunch before we walked around DC. We wanted something healthy, quick and not too expensive. Whole Foods fit the bill. We took everything to go and ate at a nearby park. Perfect, this was actually what we were looking for. It was in walking distance from our hotel in Foggy Bottom, and the check out lines was efficient and quick. There were all sorts of foods on the hot bar, as well as a great selection of fruits and salads on the cold bar. There was also fresh bread and a wide selection of cheeses for sandwiches. Great for tourists and a nice alternative to having to eat out every meal.

Yelp
This place is conveniently located right next to the GW MED school campus, the GW hospital, and the MFA building. So naturally it is within walking distance of everything that youd want to do if you were a medical student. I personally go here for their lunch. I'm a big fan of their pizza by the slice as well as the sushi. It's an easy process in and out. I also love their selection of soups and appreciate the fact that they will actually let you try them if you want to.

Yelp
Does anyone even shop for groceries at Whole Foods anymore? And what I mean by this somewhat rhetorical question is that, between places like Trader Joe's, Aldi's, and even Wegman's, there are plenty of other stores to purchase organic, Fair Trade, Vegan, Gluten Free, locally sourced, items...and at the same price or usually CHEAPER! I give Whole (PayCheck) Foods credit for practically inventing this segment of the grocery industry, but it seems that in the past several years, they are suffering an identity crisis. Namely, is Whole Foods still the preeminent purveyor of organic heath, beauty, and food stuffs? OR Has Whole Foods become nothing more than an upscale food court? IMHO, Whole Paycheck has devolved to the latter of these two choices. Not that I shop at WF very often, but the last couple of stores I've visited across the DMV, it seems that they are devoting more and more space to the hot and cold food bar stations, pizza/sandwich counters, as well as (what I call) "mini-bar" areas where customers can sit and order beer/wine and food items. Honestly, I think it is a smart pivot since Whole Paycheck understands what meal delivery services like Blue Apron and food delivery services like GrubHub already know - people today don't cook and paradoxically with all of the modern conveniences, have "less time". This particular Whole Foods is near the GW campus and is nice enough, but I primarily stop in before I attend a show at the Kennedy Center or am just walking around Foggy Bottom and want a quick bite. I find their bakery to be above average with a special shout out to their fresh muffins in the morning. And surprisingly, I find their sushi (in partnership with local high-end purveyor Kaz Sushi Bistro) to be quite good during the lunch and dinner hour when it is prepared fresh. Otherwise, there is nothing special about this location. Usually there are students and busy professionals milling about the aisles, debating whether to spend the extra $2 for the organic avocados or if paraben free deodorant works any better for the premium price. Ironically, I thought when Amazon purchased WF that prices would drop, but they have largely remained static. Long term, I only see Whole Foods continuing to shift their strategy to be more of a "luxury convenience grocery marketer" - complete with personal concierge shoppers which will curate your suggested purchases based upon profile preferences integrated with your Amazon account. If this happens, I hope Amazon is considerate enough to acknowledge my Intellectual Property claim, along with any future royalties in perpetuity...

Yelp
I came back to this location a few days ago. Horrendous lines, dirty checkouts, and rude staff encounters. I saw the staff shove a cart while an older gentleman was walking past and he had to reverse and go around. The marijuana smell was noticeable from the basement to the front door.
google avatar

Yelp
My colleague and I popped in to grab a quick bite at the hot bar before going to the Kennedy Center. You go to the kiosk to place your order, then you have to pay separately at a register. In my opinion, that is not very time efficient for the customer. There should be a better system in place to do it at the kiosk. You can provide your cell number and you will receive a text when it is ready for pick up. This really caused a delay for us as we were running short on time. The food selection seemed somewhat limited to me. There was a salad bar, soups, breakfast bar, pizza, sushi, and one or two other stops. I decided to go for a slice of pizza. It was average and although the slice looked big, it wasn't too filling. My colleague got a turkey sandwich and said it was too dry. It took a while to prepare his sandwich too. There is a dining area by the entrance with tvs and a station by the door with utensils, etc. They also sell coffee and I saw some cute and yummy looking desserts and pastries, a variety of breads, and bins of trail mixes. I was limited on time so couldn't look around much. My review and rating is solely based on the hot bar selection available and what I ordered.

E M.

Yelp
This Whole Foods (22 and I st nw) wouldn't let me in the store 2 minutes before closing after a long biz trip (to grab one thing). The employee was kind enough to tell me to F off. I've lived in this neighborhood for 17 years and will never grace their doorstep again
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Used to be a good WF once upon a time. When I've gone recently, the hot bar selection is awful and there are no employees there making burgers/fries even during peak dinner times like 6 or 7pm. Also extremely long lines with only 1 or 2 cashiers working. The place is a mess.

Douglas S.

Yelp
Yesterday morning, I went to get breakfast from the hot bar. The person supervising let me know that self checkout was available. I clearly communicated that I did not wish to use the self checkout (my exact words were "I do not want to use self checkout"). In response to me clearly communicating my wishes, his response was to walk me over and show me how to use it. Last week, after refusing to use self checkout, I walked over to the register and placed my item on the counter. The cashier got huffy because I made her do her actual job, instead of standing around and supervising the self checkouts. I've had other bad experiences as well. Last year, I ordered an unsweetened hot chocolate (plain cocoa powder + milk). If the barrista had informed me they didn't have unsweetened cocoa powder, it would have been fine. Instead, he just processed my order, accepted my payment, and then gave me one with sugar, even after I explicitly told him, "no sugar." When I noticed it was really sweet, his excuse was that he just gave me the one with sugar because the one without sugar was unavailable - in other words, it wasn't just a simple mistake, he apparently assumed it wouldn't be necessary to ask if it's okay to give me something else instead. When I said "I don't want this" he just responded with a flat tone and an apathetic countenance "okay, then go up front and get a refund." The last thing I'll mention in my rant is that the hot bar used to have really good food, great variety, and a regular rotation, now it's just the same mediocre food pretty much every day (I'm only there about once a week, but I'm assuming that's the case).

Yelp
Don't come here often. Only when at hospital for something which thankfully and hopefully this should be my last time here unless something unfortunate happens. Why 2 stars. 1) they should open at 6:30am instead of 7. I think they would make enough revenue if they did. 2) I walk in at 7 when they first opened. And there were sections of the floor with just swept trash and not just a little. I am sorry. But A) this should be done at closing b) if done in morning Management needs to make sue it's done before doors open to customers. 3) hot food section. A lot of the beverage section was empty and being restocked. They basically had no bottled tea. There were too many employees stocking and buffing the floor that it was hard to navigate the section. And again. Buffing floor at opening when. Seriously. 4) as other have said. Have coffee or something to read during checkout. Cashiers are sparse.

Yelp
This is not my favorite Whole Foods. There's just something amiss about it. First, I hate the layout of two floors. And despite that you would think having two floors would make it more spacious- no, it's not. I felt cramped downstairs- always about to ram into someone. Then there's the customer service/ or lack there of. I mean, WF is not my primary grocery store, but there are a few things I come to expect when I go to WF: good, clean (though high priced) food and excellent customer service. Um, not here. I must have passed ten employees and not one smiled or offered help in anyway. However when I did get shrimp at the seafood counter, she did offer help. It was just everyone else in the store who was less than courteous. Ok then there was a massive line pile up and no one to direct. There was a silly line/color coded system that some people failed to follow correctly. Then my cashier literally ignored me. I had my own bag and told her so. Then she proceeded to charge me for a bag. Then told me to swipe my card twice. And yes of course no smile, nada. Sigh I really did not enjoy this experience. When I'm around Alexandria I'll stick to that WF which is extremely more consistent in every way.

Yelp
This Whole Foods used to be good but now it is awful. No cell signal inside means you can't get the Amazon in-store code to load so even if you happen to be buying something on sale then you can't get the discount. Also they don't have any store brand whole wheat pasta. Of all places on earth, Whole Foods should have whole wheat pasta. Sheesh.

Yelp
The only thing I like about this location is the canvas reusable bags they sell. They're really nice and have the DC flag on them. As for the store itself: two thumbs down. The workers in this Whole Foods, in my opinion, loathe the customers more than I loathe Jeff Bezos. I'm not sure the purpose of having an upstairs section with 3/4 of items you can find downstairs but I suppose the "grab n go" nature makes this ... unique ?? I have to say nothing about shopping at this Whole Foods is an enjoyable experience. Descending the escalator to the lower level feels like entering a new layer of hell, trapped in an underground hipster lair with lurking working who were apparently tortured into never asking customers for help. The various homeless and beggars out front make for a really nice touch. I do not mind their presence, what I mind is that the country's richest man who bought the country's most expensive grocery store cannot supply anything to homeless hanging out front harassing their own customers. How much would it cost to supply them with adequate meals and water ? This would be true to the real Whole Foods, before Mr. Bezos bought it and ran it to the ground. Thank you Jeff! You're so amazing!

Yelp
I always shopped at whole foods since it started in California and they used to have the highest standards. However since Amazon purchased it, the quality started to degrade slowly. The last time I was at this market in Foggy-bottom few days ago and while I was picking up some pastries in the middle of the afternoon a huge rat ran right in front of me to inside where the baking shop was!!! And when I told the manager, she just dismissed as if it was a Miskito just flew inside by accident. Her reply was , well we're in the city and that's normal. We have our pest control procedures. She actually was actually trying to convince me that having RATS running around in a grocery store where they serve hot food as well is acceptable and somewhat ok. I don't know when food cleanliness, safety standards and sanitation of most food shops, metro, transportation and every other public space else in DC started deteriorating this badly but that is not ok. It's not ok for any establishment serve the public to have that low standard and certainly not acceptable either. The mayor and the health department need to start doing their jobs and not just make empty promises we hear when elections season comes, and then things go back to as bad or even worse than it was. All elected officials and public offices employees need to up their game or leave the game all together!!!! Our city is riddled with crime, and corruption and all services in it is going to $$itt!! All citizens should demand that public officials be held accountable and these standards are no longer acceptable!!!!

Yelp
Although I knew the founder's uncle, I've never been a big fan of the Whole Foods chain. I buy groceries elsewhere but have been known to stop in occasionally for some prepared food. I came to this Whole Foods while on my way to an evening event. Because the local restaurants had queues spilling out the door, and because I didn't have much time, I found myself purchasing a poke salad and a half-liter of Samuel Smith's for my dinner. The salad was pretty good; I felt that it was a decent value. The ale was excellent -- a point in favor of Whole Foods is that they generally have a strong selection of interesting beers. The sit-down area for meals in the store was not especially cheery. After a random nut case sit down across from me and tried to make conversation, I retreated to my phone and opened up the Yelp app. The most negative aspect to this particular Whole Foods was the long line for cashiers on the ground floor as people came up from the produce area down below. There were two lines crammed in to a tight space; the unlucky shoppers waiting in line did not look at all happy. Fortunately, I managed to pay for my purchases at the prepared food area and therefore avoided the worst.

Yelp
Best coffee ever!! Tomas Is the nicest person and always brightens my day. He is the best employee at Whole Foods and makes sure every customer is given quality service. I always order the honey vanilla latte. It is very high quality coffee and tastes great every time!

Franny W.

Yelp
Quick and efficient location. The check out line goes by very quickly with self check out and they have a good assortment of groceries to get.

Yihang Z.

Yelp
The cashier named Mani has absolutely terrible attitudes. Before I even went to the counter, he was apparently unhappy that I was walking too slowly, and made some really weird gestures. When I was checking out I tried to enter my phone number on the keypad to verify my prime membership. Apparently it didn't work because the number was not stored in the system, but he didn't give me even one second to read the error message shown on the screen before he manually deleted that message. This happened twice, and he treated me like I was trying to cheat instead of offering me an alternative way to verify my membership. After we were done he thought I didn't say "thank you" to him (which I did), and in a really weird voice he said "you're welcome, SIR, you should say thank you" to me. This is the worst cashier I have ever encountered during my 10 years of life in the US. If you don't want your mood to be ruined for the whole day, avoid this cashier!!

Yelp
I decided to stop by on a Thursday night after a bike ride to try their ramen. It was the most disgusting ramen I've ever had in my life. The two friends I was with agreed and I had to return it. Aside from the ramen being inedible, it took forever to get it, not because it wasn't ready, but because the people in the food area were incompetent. I asked if my number was ready, and the lady said it's coming. Well, after waiting around for 10-15 minutes, seeing everyone else get their food, I saw two bowls off to the side. It turns out my number was already called & was sitting on a different counter. And last, but not least, while I was getting the ramen, my bf had to wait in line for 30-45 minutes for two items because there is no express line and only a couple registers open. It was an all around bad experience, but I can't get over how bad the ramen was.

Yelp
My normal Whole Foods is the one in Arlington, but I happened to be in the Foggy Bottom area and stopped into the coffee shop named Allegro to grab some tea and a quick snack. The coffee shop just had the basics and I only really needed tea. The one complaint I have is that the hot water was TOO HOT and I couldn't drink my tea for at least 10 minutes without getting burned. It took a lot of heavy blowing to make it drinkable. I also grabbed one of their cheddar and chives scones which was really yummy and filling and the perfect accompaniment to my hot tea. I like that this location has a cafeteria style eating area which made it more comfortable and homey and felt like an actual restaurant. It was crowded for a Saturday, but pretty easy to find a place to sit and eat a mid afternoon snack.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about the coffee at this WF! I always order the dark chocolate mocha, and it never disappoints. The baristas are so kind with the best smiles - especially my friend from Italy :) I will always come here rain or shine!

Yelp
Best Whole Foods that I have ever been in! This store is in an excellent location and has the largest selection of items that I have ever seen. Very clean and prices were fairly reasonable. Great place to grab a salad or baked goods to save some $ if you are vacationing.

Yelp
Great location and great staff. The coffee bar has a wide variety of blends, the hot bar has a diverse food selection, and the staff is extremely helpful. Another plus is that you have the opportunity to run into influential policy makers; I've bumped into John Kerry multiple times.

Yelp
The man who works at checkout is very rude. If I don't want to use self checkout I shouldn't have to

Yelp
#1. Y'all as a company need to strongly consider the amount of cultural appropriation you engage in by having a food section labeled 'Hola Foods'. #2. Please learn how to PROPERLY MAKE FOOD! I got tacos from this section in Whole Foods and they barely put any toppings and to top it off Put them at The BOTTOM of my taco. Learn how to make this kind of food before appropriating the culture. Meat was super dry, almost near flavorless and I'm sure the pork and chicken are the same. Not worth your money AT ALL! If y'all had to make this food to save your company, Whole Foods would be closed forever. Only come here for your boujiee groceries that probably come from the hands of exploited and underpaid peoples.

Yelp
The coffee is amazing! I've written a review before, but the barista is so kind and does an outstanding job. So friendly and a great smile!

Yelp
This Whole Foods is designed to cater to college students being right in the middle of GWU's campus. It's right next to the Foggy Bottom Metro and the first floor is entirely grab and go options. There's a coffee bar, a food bar, a sandwich station, a beer station; pretty much any grab and go station you'd want. This floor is where the check out aisles are and the system they use forces you to be alert. There's ALWAYS a line, but their system helps it go fast. Before you exit, there's tables for you to sit and enjoy your food. If you're here to actually grocery shop, you'll need to go downstairs to the basement where you can find the produce, meats, dairy, vitamins, etc.

Yelp
They have a great selection and great staffs but the parking lot is not good. It's free for 90 minutes. Two gates to While Foods parking area. The ticket got magnetized somehow and I got troubles. I had to call one worker there to receive a ticket and got to pass the first gate. And I had to go to the office and go back to whole foods. And I got to pass the second gate. It took at least 15 minutes to get out. They should change the system or something. That's why 2 stars. Their foods and drinks are 5 stars. Customer service is 3 stars because some staffs are not friendly and don't smile at all. Price is 3 because most of the things I want are expensive.

Yelp
This Whole Foods just accused me of slipping a $5.99 peeler into my cart full of food simply because someone had stolen the item and left the wrapper on the shelf next to the La Croix. And then the manager and Loss Prevention bro had the audacity to say they hadn't "accused" me of stealing anything. And THEN they told me I was welcome to check out. Well, at least now I can tell everyone that I've had the privilege of seeing one of those legendary Whole Foods Loss Prevention badges. Trader Joe's, here I come.

Yelp
The lines at this location are almost always very long. It seems like this is because even though there are 20 or so registers, only a few are open at a time. I hope that Whole Foods increases the number of cashiers at this location. The length of the check out lines is really unacceptable, especially considering how much everything is! On the bright side, this store is right on the GW campus, takes GWorld, and has some good specials for prime members.

Yelp
Great location! Tomas at the coffee bar makes the best smoothies and is super nice! Nice seating and conveniently located.

Yelp
To begin, I am not exaggerating any part of this story. I am relatively new to this area. Walking by Whole Foods at GWU I decided to stop in. My last four visits there have all sucked because of the system they use for check out. I have three items. How bad can it be. Thirty minutes later, seriously, thirty minutes later I make it to the register. I would have left but it meant leaving frozen foods to thaw. So I chose the morally correct choice, stick it out. And you are trapped anyway because of people crammed in a narrow path to registers. Once I got to the front of the line, only four registers were staffed, I noticed number 18 had its own line with four people in, taking one of the four check outs out of service for our line. Our lines wrapped the coolers. That line stayed small and new people kept coming into it. When I reached my register I asked the staff if 18 were a separate line. She said yes. I asked to speak to the manager. I was hot, tired and my food was thawing. The manager, Abraham, explained that when people come to the end of the regular lines, they tell those people to go around to 18. I could not believe that they let the people in the regular line keep Standing in line but the new people who walk up get checked out first. Yep. That is the way they do it. Screw the people who got in line first! That is 30 minutes I will never get back. Hell will freeze over before I ever go back to that Whole Foods. Ever. They should absolutely change this terrible system for check out. Wouldn't it be smarter to dedicate the four limited staff they have to first come first serve. Smarter but doubtful they care.

Yelp
This is a well run and efficient store. Staff is helpful too. I have never had a bad experience.

Yelp
This is one of those stores I go into time and time again because it's convenient, not because I especially like it. Long lines, cramped layout, limited stock reflecting a smallish urban store. If you can get past those issues, you'll be able to shop here without your blood pressure boiling over come rush hour. I do have to commend the store management. I stop by here when I'm traveling by metro because the location is so damn convenient to Foggy Bottom. (Much closer than my preferred store, Trader Joe's.) Usually that means hauling a backpack to pack my groceries. After two back-to-back incidents in which the seafood department poorly cleaned and packed my fish - leaving gross fish juice all over my bag on my way home - I contacted management to express my displeasure. They quickly responded and reimbursed my purchase, which I really appreciated. Last tip - the store has Wi-Fi, take advantage of it when you go downstairs to the primary grocery level!

Yelp
Horrible conditions. Upstairs air conditioning barely working in high humidity climate, was sweating in line along with everyone else. Concerned over bacterial growth with so much exposed food. Quality of fruit is non-existent, certain fruit past their prime and should be pulled. The line to pay is at least 20 minutes long. The worst part is the exposed sweets upstairs are engulfed in flies. I saw a large horsefly sitting on a cookie...gross. If it weren't for the GW campus this store would be shut down. DC Health department must act.

Yelp
I use this Whole Foods exclusively for the hot bar and other prepared foods. Because the options in Foggy Bottom are so limited, I do appreciate the sushi bar, pizza, and hot bar options. However, this is one of the smallest and least exciting hot bars I've seen at a Whole Foods. They could definitely improve. Lines are always absurdly long, even in the summer. If Foggy Bottom had more food options, I would be unlikely to come here. But as it stands, they do not have too much competition.

Yelp
This is definitely my best Wholefoods store, 2 minutes walk from GWU-Foggy Bottom Metro. It's super clean, staff are well organized and prior to the covid pandemic when it's usually busy, the Manager's step in immediately to ensure the cue is not too long. There is a sense of organization, warmth and neatness that makes this my favorite store. One of the staff, Richard, very professional and always happy to help you find a product.
