Wi Jammin Caribbean Cafe Review - Mid-City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Brown stew chicken, escovitch red snapper, and cow foot simmered in Jamaican curry—this tiny Mid City restaurant serves it all. Located in a bright yellow building on Pico, Wi Jammin is a complete neighborhood staple, a place where you’ll eat among families who have been coming here for years. On the weekends, they serve crab legs, spiced and seasoned in a signature herb rub." - Kat Hong

Google
So honestly I’ve tried this place almost like 10 yrs ago so today I went and they have a whole different set up and was ready to order the guy looked at me weird asking me what I wanted I told him what I wanted he came up to me with an attitude i told him that my friend wanted to place an order as well and he just assume we were getting the same thing already given me the price like sir ?? Why the attitude for?? seems like he hates working there !!!

Google
This place is always closed at random hours. No phone lines work. A waste of time don’t drive up here they most likely will be closed! Mind you it’s 1:50pm….

Google
You can always expect yummy for your tummy. I appreciate the portions that are served compared to other places. Great customer service and you can definitely feel the friendly energy exchange amongst all that enters there establishment. The price is fair, like I said 2 can eat from one plate. I definitely say try it cause you will enjoy it👍🏽😋

Google
I guess my expectations were entirely too high. I forgot the people of this environment "hype" up anything and that allows the owner to put whatever price they want on food that's...... I should of ate at the Habit Burger today. Pancakes without the proper utensils, the omelet wasn't made with love. Who still uses seasoned salt. Its unfortunate thay this was my 1st and last experience. Maybe their food looked like there google pics when they 1st open .

Believe the hype, addictive flakey hand made patties are a dream

I love coming here for the fruity pebbles French toast meal. It’s always so flavorful and a go to for me. Definitely try this place out, you won’t regret it !!

Google
The best food I’ve been going to wii jammin since 2016 customer service is the best and the owner is a great man that treats everyone with care from the disabled to people of all colors I rate 1000000 percent

Yelp
Ordered oxtail with steamed rice and a garden salad, meal also included a side of plantain via Uber eats. Not pictured is a small red peas soup. As a Jamaican I know good Jamaican food and so does this restaurant. The food was seasoned deliciously. My only complaint of the oxtail is that there was still fat on it. I also wish the garden salad was separated from the hot foods. I can't speak on service in person, but in the past they will sometimes call if I order something they just ran out of to go through options. This level of service is appreciated. This restaurant is my go to when ordering Jamaican food in LA. Def recommend.

Yelp
Street parking was easy to find on a Sunday afternoon. The prices are very reasonable. I ordered the large oxtails with sorrel for $34. This establishment seems to be heavily takeout. The dining area was unkempt. The service was friendly and helpful. I wiped down a table near the entrance to eat my food. This place is busy with takeout orders. I was the only person dinning in. My oxtails were seasoned very well but were not tender. The cabbage was delicious, I would come back for it. Nothing special about the rice and beans they were good. I would order here again and not get the oxtails and make it togo.

Yelp
we came to grab some breakfast here because we hear all these good reviews, but when we got here, the woman taking our order was extremely rude! not only did she give the impression that she hated her job but she made multiple comments and straight up was NOT helpful, i asked her where the "omlettes" are on the menu and she replies "right in front of your face" i obviously asked for a reason and the reason was, i couldnt find it, just very unprofessional and rude. the food now no matter what, will always be mids to me due to there lack of customer respect. i hope yall fix this Problem employee before she says the wrong thing to the wrong customer, do better plz

Yelp
I was visiting someone and got hungry. Wanted to grab and go. Simple and quick, so I stopped here. I wanted two beef patties, but after she said 5.00, I was like, let me get one just in case I don't like it. The beef patties were good, fresh, hot, and flavor was great! Oh, and it's cash only

Yelp
The food is always delicious. Best Jamaican in Los Angeles!!! Taste is so authentic and delicious and amazing! Very tasty. Seasoned very well!! I have tried the jerk chicken, oxtails, plantains, cabbage, rice & peas!!! CASH ONLY!!!

Yelp
I have tried three times to go to this establishment, but I didn't due to limited parking. Once I found a parking spot on their block, but due to the outside being very dirty and unkepted, I decided to eat somewhere else. I help that the next time I try to go, I'll have a different experience. The one star is only for the ambiance.

Marii B.

Yelp
From the service to the food I would just say it's chefs kiss, my first trip to LA back in 2020 I fell head first for the food.

Yelp
Yellow Curry Is All I Have To Say. Cabbage is incomparable. I doubled back the next day. You

Yelp
This place has the best breakfast ever, and I hate when I can't make it here. It's like a drug and I'm definitely addicted! This review is for the original location on Redondo. As a local, I'm proud to have this hidden gem right in walking distance
google avatar

Dominque B.

Yelp
I'll never return . They changed the recipe and for $30 mixed with a bad attitude, I could have saved my money and stayed home. Lord why did they change the recipe !? It used to be good but yeah never again

Yelp
Food is really good, takes a while to get your order but I really like everything on the menu. pick up is a little bit shakey with the crowd but definitely recommend the food.

Yelp
I've heard about Wi Jammin for a while and finally decided to try it last night as I just moved into my new place and was too tired to cook. I ordered on Doordash and the delivery didn't take too long. My order: Jerk chicken plate (large) Rice & peas Steamed cabbage Fried plantains Everything had an overpowering level of spice, only balanced by the sweetness of the plantains. The rice & peas also had a weird aftertaste like someone added cinnamon to it. Great portions... if I'd wanted to continue eating it. Perhaps I could try a different protein, however the sides were just not good. Not sure I'll try again.

Yelp
You know the food is fire when it's SOLD OUT! While we were there multiple menu options were sold out. Lots of locals and plenty of Caribbeans frequent this spot We had chicken soup, light spice tons of flavor. Oxtails so tender the bone slipped out as I picked it up. Curry chicken which was thick like stew and a veggie patty. We couldn't finish our plates, but made every effort. Can't wait to try their breakfast in Inglewood

Yelp
From the east coast so definitely know some authentic spots I still go too . Cash only business when times have changed we live in an almost cashless world unfortunately. My issue with businesses is mainly service and food in which case I didn't get both. Decided to post mate pick up inside the restaurant being as though there was no ATM . After waiting about 20 minutes seeing they were getting more foot traffic . They canceled my post mate order while sitting there ! The business cannot handle a lot of customers. They lack customer service enthusiasm . I will search for a better spot I wish this one well.

Yelp
Firstly, i want to say I'm Jamaican, I know good Jamaican food when I see it especially being from the New York, the best Jamaican food in the the US. I wanted to give this place a try and support my people. When I say disrespectful, the older lady didn't even look me in my face when I wanted to order nor did she acknowledge me, when I ordered she responded saying cash only with still not looking at me. Honestly, I was over it. There's way better spots in la honestly. The reviews are telling. So I will not be returning. Best Jamaican food is in the SFV, take my word

Yelp
I love Wii jammin! It's my favorite Jamaican food spot in la. In regards to portions and flavor everything is on point!

Yelp
The food is amazing but you'll never know what time they're open and the menu is always a little different ordering online/platform vs in store for both locations. I drove all the way to Inglewood yesterday because it says online they were open: they were closed when I got there. Tried again today at the Redondo location and made sure to double check the hours: it says open until 4pm on Google...got there around 2:30pm and they were already closed. If you happen to catch them during their elusive hours and can know exactly what you want already the food is amazing.

Yelp
This is now my favorite Jamaican food restaurant or Caribbean food restaurant hands down. I had been hearing about this place for a long time I've passed by it on many occasions, because I had a place that I went when I wanted Curry goat or other Caribbean cuisine. I WAS MISSING OUT HOWEVER! Firstly everything was fresh, marinated and seasoned to perfection. there was nothing that I needed to add, no hot sauce, no salt, no pepper, no nothing I didn't need to add anything I just needed to eat that's it. The Curry goat was smoky very tender and had a grilled/ char flavor underneath that smokiness that made it even more flavourful. the oxtails were like your grandma used to make, tender and cooked down til it soaked up its own gravy. that gravy soaked into the meat you need nothing! it just slid right off the bone the rice and peas were fluffy and there was the slightest hint of coconut, just the slightest hint out of sweet coconut that made it buttery and comforting. the cabbage was cooked to perfection it wasn't overcooked it wasn't undercooked and seasoned to perfection The only thing I missed and would have wanted to add to this was a piece of festival bread. MUST TRY! This was my 1st time ever trying cow foot soup and it's soup and it was good but so reminiscent of pig's feet or student picks feed that it was kind of a turn off to me because I don't eat pig stealing anymore but I will eat this soup in the future I'm going to probably put it in the refrigerator or freezer and when I decide to go back to it I will pour that or over some rice and I know it will be amazing and I just want to get beyond the gilletteness of the cow's foot that is in the meat but it's it's it's good it's comforting in a cozy pajama way.

Yelp
I said let me give another local a try! Cos the last place was overhyped and disappointed. Ok I drove about 40min to this place praying it wasn't closed or line wrapped around the corner, I even called and no one answered. So I thugged it out and drove. Pulled up and a few cars parked on the street but there was availability so good. I walked in and saw handful people waiting in line or sitting waiting for their orders. Line moved pretty quickly and I placed my order of small oxtail plate and curry goat. Was hesitating to get the jerk chicken but I said no next time if this bangs then the chicken gotta be a winner. I saw the sign cash only so I had to hop out of line and go to an atm which luckily there's one in the corner store at the end of the same street a few doors down. It's a 1.75 fee by the way... each plate is $20. Walked back and paid waited another 10min and my food was brought out and packed. Got home had to warm up the plates but it was good! The cabbage was seasoned well the rice was succulent and the oxtails were delicious! Reminds me of Jamaican restaurant in Houston so I know it's authentic. I'm gonna try and behave because this economy is stressin but a whole meal is necessary. Applauds to the cook I'll be back for the chicken

Yelp
Food good but the service is ghetto asf they open at 8 but no one gets there till 11 super unprofessional

Don't D.

Yelp
10/10 don't miss out. Truly believe it is one of the best places in Los Angeles. I would buy one if I could.

Yelp
Yum! Nice place to have some grub! Also very nice service! Fresh, well seasoned and delicious!

Yelp
Fruity Pebbles French toast is . Did takeout. Got the fruity pebbles French toast with eggs, chicken apple sausage and also came with potatoes. French toast was the highlight but everything was more than solid and was a big portion all together.
google avatar

Chloe A.

Yelp
Me an my grandma come here all the time and let me tell you The food is fire! We always get oxtails but today we got brown chicken stew and when we got our order it was so well packaged so on the way home it wouldn't spill in the bag but enough about the food and let's talk about the drinks I always get the pineapple guava and it's amazing and my grandma always gets the pineapple ginger but when you try the pineapple ginger it's like you can't taste it all but it's really good I must recommend
google avatar

Yelp
What in the gentrification? Why does this place have the same name as another restaurant that's in the same building ? Yet Not even proper Jamaican food... Also horrible customer service like I wouldn't even spend money here if I can barely get any answers regarding the lackluster menu from the rude staff. Do better, bad vibes here.
google avatar

Decia S.

Yelp
We ordered takeout for the first time and it was definitely authentic Jamaica food!! The red peas soup was delicious, my son enjoyed the fried chicken which was crispy and well seasoned, their oxtail and jerk chicken was on point. Highly recommend trying them if you're in LA and looking for not just any Jamaican but authentic Jamaican food. We did takeout so can't comment on in dining experience or service from thy angle only that the food was amazing!

Yelp
Poor service ... all around!!! Ordered French toast with side of turkey bacon (3 slices). My husband ordered the simple breakfast which consisted of 2 chicken sausages, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes. For a breakfast spot, it was practically empty. That was our first sign to turn around and eat somewhere else. But a friend (Greg the Foodie) recommended it so we decided to give it a try. The 2nd clue was when they didn't have any coffee . WHAT !! What restaurant that serves breakfast doesn't have coffee?!?! I was ready to walk out but my husband convinced me to stay just so we can try the food. He said Starbucks was down the street and I could go there after we eat. NO ... but ok I will stay. 3rd clue... they turned on the TV to a music channel with "ratchet" gangster rap full of profanity... smh ‍ It's took about 20 mins for food to come and I satisfied with what I saw. I had 2 slices of regular sandwich bread .. sliced in half and a three slices of greasy turkey bacon .. I used my napkin to remove the excess oil . My husband's plate looked ok except for the potatoes that were obviously precut frozen potatoes, fried in oil and served. Realizing he was missing something from his plate, he asked for a side toast $3 extra. Well sad to say he had to eat his meal without it because it never came. To sum it all up Don't WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. You will not get the Bang for your Buck!! The only people eating hear are youngsters who don't know any better. Never again for me!

Francois W.

Yelp
food is fire best hangover food but definitely order over phone and give a good 30 mins grace period before its actually ready.

Marion H.

Yelp
Great food and reasonable prices. Authentic Jamaican food - would definitely recommend. This is one of 3 Jamaican restaurants that are my go to when I go to LA.

Brian C.

Yelp
RACIST !! Im Latino, I had just picked up a friend from lax who Came from Mississippi (he's black) & he wanted to stop by This place, when we got the Tommy friend asked me to go inside & order while he walked I over to the store around the block, I went in an placed an order & also ordered a side of apple chicken sausage.. I was told that there was no more chicken sausage so I went back out to tell my friend that there wasn't any, he proceeded to go inside to place his order & they magically had chicken sausage for him .. they don't greet you, they don't look at you in your face , not one " hello" "welcome" "come again" "thank you" ... it's like they don't even acknowledge you ... it feel like when you go over someone's house & they offer u food in a bad way "just because you're there" ... never in my life will I ever spend my hard earned dollars in there.

Jonathan J.

Yelp
The food is super smackin; been back like 4 times since my first. So far I've only did the Curry Chicken and Oxtail; don't think I need to to try anything with these hitter portions.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered a breakfast sand which and my bread wasn't even half of the sandwich! Not $20 worth .
google avatar

London L.

Yelp
The food was really good!!!! We ordered a curry chicken with rice and beans and cabbage ($16 for small) and an oxtail with rice and beans and cabbage ($18 for small). The meat for both dishes was seasoned extremely well. It was tender, the oxtails weren't too fatty, and the chicken wasn't dry like some places. The rice and beans were good especially with the gravy or curry sauce on the top (I asked for extra gravy lol). The cabbage was seasoned but I wasn't too fond of the taste. They also threw in free plantains. (There was a sign on the door that said they provide plantains at no additional chatge when available. I usually don't like plantains but I actually enjoyed them) The wait was about 20 minutes for our food. They practiced social distancing at the location pretty well by making you place your order outside, but I was little confused where the line to place an order began. The customer service wasn't bad at all. I'm definitely coming back!
google avatar

Leslie C.

Yelp
Amazing food! I had the goat curry and my friend had the chicken curry. The meat was so tender. The meal came with rice and beans, plantains has salad. The curry was spicy and delicious. We also had beef patties on the side, which were seasoned well and quite enjoyable. This place is busy, which is good sign. It seems to be more of a carry out place. There are tables there but people aren't really eating there, and you won't get a server. You have to order at the counter. It was my first time so I was a little confused as to how it all worked and I couldn't find a menu easily. I finally found one off to the side of the corner. The service was not great. If I was giving stars based on service, I would give 2 stars. I am giving 4 starts because the food is great. The young lady who took my order was rude. She was on the phone at the time and very rude to the person on the other end. I gave my order and she said I would pay when the food was ready, but never mentioned their credit card machine was broken and I would need to pay cash. If I had known that, I would have gone somewhere else for dinner because I didn't have cash. Or I would have gone and retrieved cash while the food was cooking. Instead, my order was ready and then I had to go to an ATM. When I mentioned that I wish she had told me about the credit card situation, she pointed to a small sign on the wall, saying they did tell me. I'm not used to having to look for things 3 feet behind the counter to give me information. The rest of the staff seemed nice so perhaps I had the only rude person, or perhaps it was just a bad day. I'm not sure if I will return. I'm torn. Amazing food but bad service.

Yelp
Tuesday July 14,2020 I arrived at 10:30 and did not receive my food until 12:50. Quoted 45mins.. Lady who took our order was doing the best she could.. a hour go by they begin to receive a lot of more guests and more unhappy and frustrated-irritated guests... i called to ask about an estimate of when our food was going to be ready at 11:35.. when they picked up they said they were not receiving phone orders and you will have to come up and wait in line to order. We proceeded to let her know that we placed order already and we just wanted an estimate for when it will be ready because we were already waiting over a hour... she said 12 minutes.............. I am a healthcare worker that works in OC and it was 12:15 and our food still was not ready.. (guests that were waiting for phone order that was there before 10:15 still hadn't gotten their order) I proceeded to call and politely asked how much longer because I needed to go to work( was late at that /: ) the waitress said "my manager said that i am unable to answer and that you have to wait for name to be called if i paid for order already ) I was ready to leave and irritated already and my partner came and told me that they were being extremely rude with nasty attitudes to their guests and said that it had disgusted him to the point that we were NOT returning ,even though the food is delicious and very unique and he supports their business frequently... Customer service skills and better communication skills were definitely needed and/or help.. especially cause of Rona closing everything down today so takeout is only option....

Yelp
Love the food here! This where I discovered fruity pebbles French toast, whi is amazing by the way. Also, their shrimp and grits are definitely delicious! The only negative thing I have to say is the wait for the food. Other then that, let me reiterate, the food here is

Yelp
Honestly i want to like this place but i hate going here. Maybe the business owner is cool but the staff suck and don't really care about what they're doing. This place is expensive breakfast for two is $52 on top of that i didn't get everything that i ordered. Soo i spend money and they don't care if they fulfilled the order correctly. This isn't the first time this has happened either. I'm gonna stick to not going to this place . Dennys has better service .

Yelp
Amazing patty's and customer service. The dough was soft and beef and jerk chicken inside was great. Lady who rang me up was sweet as well. Support this business

Yelp
Wi Jammin Caribbean Cafe is located in mid city LA off Pico and Redondo. Cost: Very reasonable. You're getting your money's worth. Seating: Inside was very clean, cafe style very limited but there is also space to eat outside. Which you have a choice for seatubg outside for some sun or inside where you get to smell all the deliciousness. A++ Customer Service: Excellent A++++! The young lady took my order over the phone and was very professional and nice. She even helped on what to order. Food: The Cap'N Crunch French Toast was very flavorful. You can taste the the Cap'N Crunch and sweet taste of the French toast together which was an excellent combination. The red cube potatoes was awesome with seasoning along with the red and green peppers in it. I went with the sausage patties which were perfect sized cooked very well. The eggs and cheese is one of my favorites. It was the right amount of size and it taste delicious with the Cap'N Crunch French Toast. The Food deserves and A+++++' Parking: was a little difficult but there is space not too far Which is give it a solid B. Overall Grade: I give WI Jammin and A+++. I recommend coming on a Saturday or Sunday for Breakfast and Brunch. The Food was delicious. More selections and amazing food. The staff was very nice, humble, and very welcoming. Definitely I will be coming back.

Yelp
I live a few minutes away and finally came in the other day with my girlfriend. Being from Queens I grew up eating Jamaican food and loving beef patties. Unfortunately they only had breakfast available at the time. Which was fine for us since we came in some what early. The food was good. Customer service was good. Definitely reminded me of home for a moment. I'll be back for sure to try their other menu items. You know, once all this Coronavirus stuff is over.

Yelp
I used to come here quite a bit when I lived in West Adams. I had to come back here about a week ago for the nostalgia. Their jerk chicken and oxtails have never failed me. They give you so much food too. Only downside is that the lines can be long and, sometimes the wait time they give you is inaccurate (longer than what they say).
google avatar

Tam N.

Yelp
I'm sure everyone comes here because of all the great pictures from Instagram because I can't understand why anyone would dine here. Its dirty. Super dirty. Inside and out. Theres TWO tables outside for you to sit. And that's it. Its supposed to be a place where you order TOGO I guess? But omg the restaurant is so small you cant even stand there to order and order without getting hit by the door. Theres no inside dining area. The staff aren't friendly. All look depressed or something. The lady who helped me was somewhat decent. But I tried to order the box with everything inside? Like 2 pieces of chicken wings, corn beard and whatnot.. something I can get $8-12 somewhere else AND the portion are alot bigger? They told me one box is $25!! I was blowned away. Who pays that?!? Then they tell me it's a 20 minute wait because of the wings... if that's your most demand entree then why isnt it already in the oil? I was just shocked about my entire experience. Since I didnt order anything I don't want to give them one star because I didnt taste the food.
google avatar

Damien H.

Yelp
Wanna in a move for some breakfast food this is the spot that I like to go to the staff is always friendly food is always good and I always have a great time even jerk chicken

Denise H.

Yelp
Ordered an omlete with house potatoes and a waffle with bacon. Took an hour and 12min to get our food. Asked for hot sauce and they wanted to charge me $5 for a bottle. NO THANKS!!. food wasn't worth that wait. We also had other people in our party that there food 30 - 45min later. Not going back. Not worth it
google avatar

Kay H.

Yelp
The worst service I've ever encountered. Not only did I have to wait a hour and a half for food that was confirmed done online that wasn't ready when I arrived. The hostess with the worst attitude there is suggested that we be bare with them or refund your own order thorough the app. Awful! As a advocate supporter of black owned business, I expect great customer service and food. Not one without the other. Please invest into a more attentive staff and a more efficient pick up system. The current system fails you miserably. This is disappointing and really unacceptable in 2020! Do better.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
You know when you take a bite and your jaw literally drops because something is so good? That was just my experience. The French toast? CRAZY. The potatoes? I have no clue how they make regular home fries taste so flavorful. Truly delicious breakfast. 10/10
google avatar

Jamie T.

Yelp
I hate leaving bad reviews on small minority businesses but it needs to be said for one the food isn't cheap, lunch special is $22 . When I'm paying that amount for food there is a certain level of service I expect. Food is good but they lack organizational skills and professionalism. Very unprofessional and the young lady that helped me was so rude. I understand business due to covid but you don't speak to customers like we are annoying and like we aren't spending our hard earned money here. Do better , a poor representation of a business
google avatar

Yelp
When it comes to breakfast food that can satisfy almost any craving imaginable Wi Jammin is definitely the place to go. They have a tons of options and the food is great. The ONLY negative I have is the wait time/ attention to detail. I came here Friday morning with a friend and placed and they got her entire order wrong after waiting about 45 mins. I came back this morning, called ahead, placed my orders for my three plates, and when I got there only one plate was made and was met with an, "I didn't hear when you said that." So I re-placed my order, waited ANOTHER 45 mins, then picked up my food and headed home. Something that should have been 30-45 mins cost me my entire morning and a headache. I've worked in retail and with food, so I know things can get crazy during a rush. But if you aren't ready for that kind of heat, don't step in the kitchen. Literally.

Yelp
The food is so good !!!! This is my second time eating here. First time I tried the fruity pebbles French toast which were also very delicious! Beef patties are so good as well. Loved the food here very much!
