Wild Honey Inn

"This personally run inn set in the heart of The Burren started life as an 1860s hotel serving those visiting the town’s spas. For this reason, it doesn’t look much like a pub but, once inside, it’s warm, cosy and full of pubby character. The menu reflects the locale and the seasons, doing away with fripperies to highlight quality produce like crab and lobster Royale or succulent rump of lamb. The sauces in particular are a showcase for excellent seasoning and depth of flavour, and the sticky toffee pudding is a must. Delightful bedrooms complete the picture. This restaurant is temporarily closed." - Michelin Inspector

Really enjoyed our (2) night stay in August. We had 2 rooms and they were clean and well appointed. The breakfast included with our stay was wonderful. We were sorry the restaurant attached to the Inn is now closed, but Aidan's chef skills are not lost on breakfast! It is like being in someones home where you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. There is plenty of street parking and Kate made check in easy.

The Wild Honey inn is a super quaint and we'll appointed inn located conveniently in Linsdoonvana. It was a great jumping off point to see the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, the Burren National park and the Burren in general. The husband and wife proprietors are very friendly and helpful. They make a tremendous breakfast and I wish they still served dinner because the food at breakfast is that good. The rooms are simple but refined and comfortable. No wifi but we had great cell service so I didn't mind and it's good to unplug for a bit anyway. If you need a place to stay for a few nights while you explore the Burren, this is your spot.

A sleepy town with a top of the line old world inn. The innkeeper Kate was welcoming, friendly and informative. Rooms were furnished with quality chairs, chest and bed. Bathroom was clean and decorated with tasteful tile and fixtures. Breakfast was fabulous with pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, scones… and then the menu was presented containing eggs, sausages, traditional Irish breakfast and more. Being an old building the WiFi was spotty and the. Shower was quirky. Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher are within 20 minutes.

Kate (the owner) and staff were lovely. Rooms had charm and were clean. Breakfast was great too! Do wish we had all day tea and coffee available. We also could not bring any outside food in. She and her staff were able to accommodate a family of 20~/10 rooms.

This little guesthouse is seriously gorgeous and the owner, Kate, is an absolute delight. She was full of great local recommendations and made my favorite breakfast I had on that trip. I would go back to Lisdoonvarna just to stay here. Honestly, I wish I could hire Kate to decorate my home, too - this place is so charming.

We both had beautiful rooms and excellent showers.||Spotlessly clean.||The house is gorgeous with wonderful furniture and every room has especially beautiful curtains and fabrics. ||The only let down is that the bar is closed and there is no tea or coffee making facilities. There is a lovely sitting room that we used and it would have been nice to have a coffee in there||

Terrible experience, especially for this price! First of all, it is not a 4 star property. The check in was available only from 4-6pm, like it was some sort of Airbnb. Then the receptionist or owner woman was very rude all the time. The restaurant is not working, so all the nice photos we saw were misleading. We paid €250 per night and breakfast was not included (in every hotel we stayed in Ireland breakfast was included within €180-250 price range). Then the breakfast has to be booked for a specific time which was not convenient. The door to our room was not closing from the inside and there was loud noise every time someone in the property had a shower. The communal lounge had a bad smell. Also there was no kettle and tea/coffee in the room, which is not common for 4 start accommodation as well as for that price tag. Overall, the place looked empty and abandoned. But the biggest problem was the rudeness and the attitude of the receptionist/owner women.

Recently stayed here for 2 nights while touring Ireland. The Inn was amazing -- the hosts are welcoming, the breakfast was delicious, and the location is great. It's 10 minutes from the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, and 5 minutes from Doolin. Highly recommend the Roadside tavern, a 2 min walk -- great food and trad music. My only regret was we didn't stay at the Wild Honey Inn longer!

Yelp
This review is a combination of two visits to Wild Honey over the past year. Wild Honey is an award winning establishment with a nationally recognized husband and wife ownership. The husband chef prepares excellent, imaginative dishes. I wish I could say that the food was worth the experience of what a previous reviewer in 2013 described as "shambolic service". My experience both times was a reasonably prompt seating. Then you wait... and wait. In the locally excellent and competitive fine dining scene this really must improve. In our visit last October the dining room was overly heated. This added to a sense of ennui by the time our mains arrived. The food is worth the visit. I wish the service matched the skills in the kitchen.

Yelp
Looking for a quiet meal and nothing else. I got recommended this place. When I show up the place had 4 people on two tables, and the rest was empty. I got told they are completely full. When I gestured to the empty place they mentioned they are coming in now. Went by it 30 mins later. Still empty. They could have easily accommodated me even on the empty bar, instead I got the clear impression they just didn't want me there.

Yelp
A friend had recommended the Wild Honey Inn to me a few months ago. I was surprised that I'd never heard of it, as I know the area reasonably well from hillwalking / fishing etc., and thought in my arrogance that I knew most good places. I'm so glad she mentioned it! In a nutshell, it's a warm, welcoming, jewel of a place, with friendly staff and cracking food a 5 minute walk from Lisdoonvarna. What's not to like!!?? We were staying for two nights, me and my partner, and our two American cousins (18 year olds) over on a visit. A mix of walking / sightseeing was on the cards (weather permitting). We arrived late enough on a Saturday night and saw various groups in the main bar/ restaurant all tucking in to their meals. We were conscious of being late, but asked if there was time to eat, and despite it being "officially" closed, the kitchen accommodated us and we had delicious fish and chips, and even dessert (those young boys are still growing :-)) The excellent Roadside Inn is just 3 minutes walk away. Run by the folks who own the Burren Smokehouse, this is an excellent retreat after dinner for some local microbrew beers and some Irish music. Breakfast was lovely. Served in their breakfast dining room, it includes juices, pastries, granola, yoghurt etc., plus a menu of cooked options, including the full Irish, French Toast, and an Omelette Arnold Bennett (smoked haddock, gruyere these, etc.). All the breakfasts looked great, and my omelette was superb. We had the full monty dinner there the second night : starters, mains, desserts. Every course was very good, mostly organic or locally sourced ingredients, and top top notch. The food is not showy, but is classy, understated and beautifully done. I'd return for the crab starter alone (an interpretation of a crab cocktail in a glass). Brilliant. The rooms are lovely - spotless, good showers, nicely decorated. There's a lovely lounge area downstairs also with books and papers for chilling out. The staff were universally helpful and friendly, and of course Kate was always on top of anything we needed help with. Oh, and the pint of Guinness at the bar was pretty high quality :-) I'd recommend this to anyone: couples looking for a cosy few days in the Burren / Clare area, groups going walking, just anyone really. I also found it good value for the quality on offer. I am already looking forward to returning.

Yelp
When I told my friend I was going to Lisdoonvarna he immediately advised me that this restaurant was not to be missed. However, as impressive as the food was, shambolic service means that this place is lucky to get one star. First of all, this place looks great, a very rustic building which also boasts a B&B. Upon entering we spoke to the owner to learn that all the tables were full, the wait would be at least 30 minutes, and that they don't take bookings. Surrounded by the pleasing interior we elected to wait with the reassurance that we were now members of the queueing process. We ordered two beers and took them out to sit in the glass porch area, as recommended. Not wanting to get hammered before the meal, we drank slow and after 1 hour began to notice people getting seated. We decided to get another drink, but sat at the bar this time in the hope that we would be noticed. When the owner seen us she immediately had an 'Oh Balls!' expression on her face. Without any apology she gave us two menus and left us to wait again as we watched all the late arrivals being shown to their tables by the numerous staff. When we finally got seated the restaurant was less than full. I was starving and was still willing to forgive everything up to this point if they could just give me a taste of the service which I knew they aspired to have. Unfortunately, the owner went off to seat another couple, have a chat, and take their order before us. The preferential treatment seemed to be because they were also staying in the B&B. The waitress almost served me the wrong wine and although the steak was beautiful, we deemed it a very expensive meal. By the time we had finished desert, the staff were in cleaning mode while the owner chatted and laughed with a large group of ladies at a nearby table. I had to leave my seat to ask for the bill. The experience ended up taking 4 hours and the lack for explanation or apology is still hard to swallow. I didn't just leave disappointed, I left angry. An extremely disappointing experience.

Yelp
I have to agree with another reviewer on this, I was NOT impressed in the slightest by my time at this restaurant. Having spent the day travelling around North Clare with a friend, we decided to stop and grab something to eat. Unsure of where served the best food, we looked up reviews online, and this place seemed to be a hit so we decided to give it a try. Problems first arose when we tried to park our car nearby, the restaurant has no on site parking and virtually zero road side parking either. However, we were lucky enough to find a spot up the road and walked the five minutes back (which was fine as it wasn't raining). When we entered it took the staff a while to acknowledge our presence, something which seemed to be a problem throughout our visit. Once we were seated we were handed a menu, and while the selection of foods was certainly eclectic and unsual, it was disappointing that the didn't even offer any basic pasta dishes. I am aware that this restaurant prides itself on using local suppliers and make artisan dishes of the highest quality, however some of the dishes were just unnecesaarily popmous. I am a fluent French speaker and I was in stitches and the willy-nilly fashion they employed French terms in order to make certain dishes sound more "fancy" than they actually were. Why not just say "wild rabbit on a bed of kale", makes it much easier for those not fluent in French to understand what they are ordering! There seemed to be a larger party at the other side of the restaurtant (which by the way only seats about 15 people total - so not suitable for very large parties) who were celebrating a birthday or a Holy Communion for one of the younger children in the party. As such, all of the staff's focus was on that particular table. While I understand the staff want to get all the orders together, this meant myself and my friend waited 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive (1 coke and a water - nothing fancy) and then another further 10 mins for our soup (pea soup, which was actually very nice but definitely NOT worth the wait). As you can imagine, we left after the soup, and went and had our main course in a different restaurant, where I had a delicious pasta dish and brownie dessert at a reasonable price (did I mention the prices in the Wild Honey?! EXTORTION!) So, if you are a food critic perhaps this place would appeal to you, however for the average joe, including yours truly, this place failed to impress in the slightest.

Yelp
Loved this charming gastropub. We were lucky to get in on a bank holiday night. It was just the two of us and before. We were wanting a light supper and saw online that they have a nice starters menu and the dishes were very inventive. I chose the crab claws with cream and chilis and a side salad. Rob got the porchetta carpaccia with cabbage slaw and chips. Both were so delicious we cleaned our plates. It's located on the edge of Lisdoonvarna, but well worth the trek, or drive if the weather is poor. Great bar and bartender. I noticed their display of ginger beer and asked for a Moscow mule. She had never heard of it but cheerfully made one after I gave her the ingredients. Their menu includes a couple of featured aperitifs and Rob enjoyed one. Highly recommend. The bar is cozy and casual.

Yelp
Stayed the night and had an amazing meal...great hospitality, beautiful hotel, every detail matters and we felt immediately at home... Came here with my parents during our Irish road trip- worth going back just for the stay. What an oasis

Yelp
We stayed at Wild Honey Inn as part of a tour arranged by our bicycle club. We really enjoyed our stay. Our room was excellent, a large, clean, beautifully decorated space with a big modern bathroom, and double glass doors opening onto a beautiful courtyard garden patio of our own. (Ask for room 16.) We ate at the restaurant our first night and thought it was excellent. The food was on the gourmet side, with some unusual ingredients and flavors that everyone in our group enjoyed. We all thought this restaurant was something extraordinary and deserved a Michelin rating. Unfortunately for us, our second night in the hotel was the restaurant's weekly night off, so we didn't get a chance to eat there a second time. Overall, we would recommend Wild Honey Inn as both a terrific place to stay, and a restaurant worth the trip.
