"Apollo Bagels, which started as a pop-up from the sourdough-pizza folks at Leo in Williamsburg, has a permanent home in the East Village, and we’re so thankful that they do. The industrial-looking counter is a bit of a scene—especially on the weekends—but once you get your order, and your clothes are perfumed with everything seasoning, you’ll forget that you didn’t wake up early enough to beat out the crowd. You can get a very good bagel sandwich here (they offer versions with lox or whitefish spread), but we'd suggest ordering a plain, an everything, or a sesame bagel, and getting a tub of scallion cream cheese alongside for ad-hoc, knifeless schmearing. Served hot out of the oven, the bagels are crusty and burnished, as if sun-kissed by Apollo himself. The insides are craggy and chewy, like a really good sourdough loaf, with a little tang. This is bagel that you may never be able to cut in half, because by the time you get to your kitchen, you’ll have eaten the entire thing, rip by savage rip. photo credit: Will Hartman" - Will Hartman

I come every time I'm in New York visiting my sister. The best bagels I've ever had! The owner is so nice, always friendly, always kind. The best everything bagels anywhere, and their cream cheese and topping choices are the best I've seen! Thanks for always making my morning ❤️ See you next time I make it into the City!

We have been this location to have breakfast. The place is so nice and looks clean. The owner was so nice, he offered us some desserts to try. The sandwiches are so so yummy, can’t wait to try more option.

Google
I Ordered from them multiple times and the food is always ready fast. They have a great menu and put heart into the food, I mean not too many places think of doing a tuna melt with garlic butter, mild hot sauce, and tasty rich mozzarella, and their other menu items are also well thought out and delicious. What I would say about the corn muffin is that it can use a bit of improvement, it is pretty crumbly, falls apart while you're trying to eat it and has a grainy taste, everything else, 10/10 I would recommend!

Google
Friendly, helpful service. It was our first time and everything was explained. We ate at a Small park across the street and enjoyed the vibe of the neighborhood. The bagels were delicious.

Google
What an absolute gem! I had the crunchy fried lox bagel, and it was divine. The owner was so kind - he could clearly see I didn’t know what I was doing and helped me out. He even gave me a little sweet while I waited. Highly recommend!

Martin B.

Google
Amazing bagels with the perfect balance of chewiness, fresh and served quickly. Very good prices. The pastries are top-notch, and the coffee hits the spot. You can tell the owner really cares about his place—it definitely shows!

Google
The best bagels in NYC! Delightful service, excellent ingredients, highly recommend trying the delicious fried lox special - sumptuous! Enjoy your bagel & coffee in the park across the street, makes for a great start to the day!

Google
Best customer service ever!! and absolutely the best Lox bagel i’ve ever tasted, i’m drooling thinking about it… we also got cheese danish and other bagels, it was all fabulous!! the man working was the kindest and friendliest person i’ve met in brooklyn!!

Scarlet H.

Yelp
Crunchy fried lox is the only thing you need to get. Hole in the wall spot, they are moving quick! Guy working recommended the lox to us and we were all so satisfied.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Really good bagels and super friendly service! Pro tip: they are closed on saturdays. They also don't do bacon egg n cheese here

Dan C.

Yelp
At this tiny tiny storefront (no seating) you can walk in and hand pick the bagel you want from what is available in a few bushel-type baskets before giving it to the staff to dress up. I'm not really sure how the Health Dept allows this. There are three types of salmon to choose from: regular, smoked and spicy (not hot spicy), which was a new experience for me. I ordered spicy salmon with scallion cream cheese - if you're accustomed to getting overloaded bagels that fill you up, what you get here is like an hors d'oeuvre. It's a bit skimpy. However the scallion cream cheese was excellent and the Roma tomatoes were a welcomed departure from the unripe versions seen everywhere. It tastes great. But since it was so small I wish I had ordered extra salmon. And the coffee is good. But in other areas they fall short: having only Lipton tea? That's pathetic. No half-sour pickles, only sour. And instead of biodegradable (wood/bamboo?) stirring sticks they have only plastic knives, which is idiotic. Stirring a beverage and tossing away the knife feels less than single-use. Pretty disappointing. So would I return? Yes, I'll give it a 2nd shot. But I'm going to price the extra salmon and then calculate if it's better to go to nearby competitors who have quite a range of offerings, and I'm not talking about corn flake cereal, which this place seems to specialize in so much they line the walls with it (!).

Yelp
Meh, $5.50 (pre-tip) for an untoasted plain bagel with regular cream cheese. The guy was kind of annoying, listening to him short changing another customer, being condescending about his unusual process, and then pretending that I got a special price. That said, the bagel tasted fine - just not something I would go back for. Maybe people who like arguing would enjoy this place more, but that's not worth the premium cost to me.

Jonathon M.

Yelp
The Crunchy Lox Bagel sandwich here is one of kind and a destination bagel sandwich. The staff is great and the shop is a nice tiny little spot filled with bagels, bailys, and other goods. Just go get the crunchy lox sandwich and you will reach nirvana

G K.

Yelp
Great bagels! My girlfriend and I are sitting here in Oakland, eating the currently trendy fourth wave bagel renaissance bagels baked in our neighborhood this morning. And we look at each other and say "The frozen bagels from New York were way better" I'm speaking only to the bagels at Williamsburg Bagel, not the sandwiches or spreads or anything else. The bagels are delicious and fairly priced. Half the price of the hip Oakland bagels. Certainly there are cheaper great bagels in NYC, but based on our bagel tastes- Williamsburg Bagel is where we go when we are in the city! The bagel guy was friendly also, which I prefer versus the attitude you sometimes get in NYC or overrated hipster places in San Francisco. And no line to speak of, whereas here you think you are showing up early, and every other Jew in town is ahead of you, and there definitely aren't gonna be any everythings left by the time you get to the counter

Harry X.

Yelp
The one NY bagel I had on my most recent trip, and it did not disappoint. I got an everything bagel with lox, scallion cream cheese, tomato, onion, and lettuce and it was absolutely delicious. The bagel itself had the right amount of chew on the outside, a soft interior, and a hint of maltiness. The interior ingredients were fresh, very well-balanced, and paired beautifully. Reading these other reviews, looks like I'll have to try the fried lox sometime...

Kitty K.

Yelp
Fresh food, great service. Try the everything bread with lox, cream cheese. It is a Bodega so no seating.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Family owned and kind to me. Staple if you're in the area... especially since you know the bagel is authentic. Best bagel I ever had.... Even gave me a pastry because I'm pretty

Mocha L.

Yelp
I bought a classic everything bagel, lox and schmear from here. It was alright, but all the ingredients tasted dull and days old. The owner was very rude to me and extremely friendly and cordial with the the other customers from the surrounding Orthodox neighborhood. Being of the same community but from out of town, I felt very unseen and unwelcome in this cozy store. I don't know why it has such high reviews, but I will say if you are not from Brooklyn or New York City don't come here. They are very rude to visitors from outside the tight knit community.

Liam G.

Yelp
$5.50 for a petite sized bagel with cream cheese, could've gone done the road to a deli and got a bacon and egg and cheese for that price. Bagel was good but prices are insane. Would've been nice if it was more than 5 bites, that's over a $1 per bite of bread.

Brandon P.

Yelp
I walked in this just now and ordered "2 sausage, egg and cheese + one small coffee" $17.28. When I received my bagels, they did not have sausage. I went back to the store and asked them to place sausage on the bagels. They informed me they do not have sausage. The owner slammed 5$ on the table to appease me. Then threw in another dollar when I began to walk away. Overpriced and overrated. Ultimately the egg and cheese bagel I received was cheap eggs and processed cheese on a very decent bagel. This is a small business in my own neighborhood that I frequent. It pains me to leave negative reviews. I am business owner myself. I can't recommend and will never be returning. If you go, notice the bags of frozen bagels sitting in the freezer or food left to spoil in the trays. Nothing fresh, as the shop is too small To actually prepare fresh foods. Don't waste your time here. This is Brooklyn... There are better bagels and more rewarding places to patronize.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Amazing bagels. Tiny storefront with a limited selection, but they are champions of "do one thing well". The bagels (plain, sesame, everything, maybe one more) are handmade and delicious. I've gone in twice this month - once just for bagels ($1 each if I remember correctly) and once for an egg and cheese everything ($5). So good. The the bagels are soft and chewy, just how I like them. The flavors are great. My first visit was a bit lax in COVID enforcement, but today was leaps and bounds better. Masks enforced, everything was super clean. The owner even checked my temperature. Great job and great food.

Robert B.

Yelp
DELICIOUS. This is the real deal: quick, tasty, satisfying. Best choice. The staff made us feel easy & welcomed. You can eat at the park across the street. Fried lox we're amazing. Try it!

Selina C.

Yelp
I got the fried lox bagel and it was pretty good. The owner and employees were friendly. The bagel felt and tasted fresh. Their bagels are leagues better than Ess-a-Bagel. In this COVID environment though, I was surprised there was a huge lack of precautions. No one behind the counter wore a mask. They didn't enforce customers to wear masks either. They did not enforce social distancing, so customers were crowding into the room, maskless. It was as if COVID was not a concern. If they made changes to make sure the environment was safer (while the pandemic is going on), I'd recommend people to try their bagels, and give them two more stars.

Sylvia P.

Yelp
We very much enjoyed the bagel sandwiches: grilled lox, tuna, and grilled avocado. Fav was the tuna. Bagels were fresh and service was great. We'd absolutely go back

Dana Z.

Yelp
I'm so confused! I had to triple check that I was reading reviews of the right place. On a Sunday late morning there were maybe 5 kinds of bagels. Even noted a plastic bag that said "6 everything bagels," the kind you'd get at the grocery store. Super thin layer of cream cheese. Owner used bare hands to grab everything. Pros, egg and cheese was well-cooked, and the blintz was great.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Fantastic bagel shop. The fried lox special is not your typical nova and cream cheese, but a gem nonetheless. You really can't go wrong here. From the bagels to the pastry, it's made with soul. Very friendly owner, too.

Zachary G.

Yelp
Really good bagel and very friendly workers! Comparable to top bagel places in Manhattan but for a lower price.

Katherine L.

Yelp
So disappointing. Wanted to show brother in law a good New York bagel and this was one of worst bagels I've had anywhere ever. Bagels were at least a day old old if not more, stale chewy everything you don't want. Put one small piece of lox that tasted as bland as the old tomato on it. Flavorless, work to eat, pass.

Sean R.

Yelp
Average and overpriced. I barely had time to process what was available in the store before the owner started making snide remarks about my indecision to his coworkers. Selection of bagels is very limited and, as other reviewers pointed out, did not taste very fresh. Better option in NY

Sara Y.

Yelp
If you're in Williamsburg and hungry you can go and get some sandwiches. There are No seat...highly recommend that when the weather is nicer and warmer, try to eat outside. Prices are high friendly services

Amanda S.

Yelp
This is not your regular bagel place. Located just a few blocks from the Marcy Ave stop sits this bagel place just on the outskirts of the Hasidic neighborhood. There are more bagel varieties than bagel flavors, this isn't a bad thing. You can get a bagel stick! You could get a regular bagel with cream cheese, a classic bagel with lox. All will not disappoint. But since you're here, you should get the crunchy fried lox. It's unlike anything you've ever had (and will have again). It's delicious and very satisfying. This is also not a place you can sit and eat. Take it and maybe go to Domino Park and enjoy this new found delight. You're welcome.

Hungry K.

Yelp
Greeting- no Vibe- hole in wall Price- high Parking- street meters Service- fast BR- no Food Bagels $4 bagel and cc is expensive Bagel was not ordinary. No crust. Soft on palate. You pick out a bagel from a basket. Then pass it to bagel guys. Everyone touches bagels with their hands and passes them to counter guys. WTF?! Gross WIGB? No

Franklin O.

Yelp
Drove all the way from queens only to find out they not open and on the site shows open now 7AM Sunday's they need to change that and not deceive people...

Y G.

Yelp
Great place with neighborhood vibes. This place really deserves a five star rating... the service is very fast the staff are very helpful and when the owner is in store he takes his time to take care of the customers and makes sure that they get full service , the place is very clean and tidy, sometimes it can get busy but services remains good, good variety with a lot of options , well stocked, very famous in the area, the food is good and mouthwatering and nicely presented and clean, the food is always fresh, nice variety of cold drinks. Couldn't expect a better experience..

Meagan H.

Yelp
Really delicious crunchy fried lox bagel - everything freshly made on the griddle behind the counter. Bagels were light yet delicious - amazing! Ordered a chocolate croissant which was very tasty and the man behind the counter gave me a free cinnamon pastry to go with it. I'll definitely be back!

Carolina S.

Yelp
This quaint little bagel shop on the corner in Brooklyn makes fabulous bagels that are flavourful, fresh and cheap! They also offer an extensive variety of spreads, toppings and bread which probably has the potential to create a killer sandwich. However, I was only looking for a light bagel sandwich and coffee to start my day, and this was the perfect place to do it!

Emma S.

Yelp
You're going to get in line at the tiny bagel space off of Roebling, and you're going to see the specialty sandwich "Crispy Fried Lox." You're going to think, "nah, I'm a lox purist, I just want a regular lox/onion/caper situation." And you're going to be wrong. Do not sleep on this fried lox sandwich; the flavor profile is umami-forward with the bagel acting as a palette cleanser between each bite. I will be buried in this fried lox if my family cares about me at all.

Simona G.

Yelp
quite literally the best lox bagel i've ever had in new york - the crispy lox is fried in onions and garlic butter, smeared with scallion cream cheese, and will cure you of any less-than-excellent mood or hangover. friendly service, homemade ingredients, and standout flavors - a rare find in the otherwise overpriced and underwhelming williamsburg bagel scene!

Dan O.

Yelp
Always freshly baked bagels with excellent ingredients and friendly people behind the counter. Unlike other places there's never a line here. Many varieties of smoked salmon, all taste great. I also like how the bagels are on the smaller side, not leaving you overly full.

Thomas P.

Yelp
Old guy (guess owner) noticed I was a tourist when he returned my change there was 5 dollars missing - I really felt this was done on purpose (although of course cannot be 100% certain) - the way he acted seemed very suspicious - so if you do decide to go here make sure you don't get ripped off. Bagel was very good btw

Melissa B.

Yelp
I walked in and the man taking orders told me they didn't make fresh eggs. So I ordered two bagels with butter and one with cream cheese and paid 15 dollars for them. All of my bagels had cream cheese on them. When I went to check out I found out there is in fact fresh made eggs. No one got what they wanted, I left having a rude bagel experience and they missed out on overcharging me for eggs.

Kathrin C.

Yelp
I am consistently blown away by this place. I normally go for breakfast because their everything bagels are delicious but today I decided to try lunch. They were out of the Israeli eggplant omelette (sad) so I requested egg on avocado. I was anticipating a plain sandwich but the man working this afternoon went above and beyond seasoning my sandwich with spices and sautéing egg, onion, tomato and avocado together to create arguably the best egg sandwich I've ever had. It was so good! Definitely check out this gem!

Benjamin H.

Yelp
One of the best bagels in NYC. Can be inconsistent, but when they're good, they're really good. Have a handcrafted quality with a bubbly crust and not as thick as your typical New York bagel. Will go out of my way to pick up a few dozen when I'm headed out of the city. If you're picking up a large order, you may want to call ahead. Would recommend, 10/10.

Julie F.

Yelp
This is an example of a bad bagel. Sorry to be harsh but this is nyc where the bagel was essentially invented and competition is fierce. The bagel had no bite and density to it, meaning when I bit into it, it just broke apart way too easily. It should be dense and chewy, and there should be some effort to bite into a good bagel. This felt more like a bread roll, and kind of a stale one at that. The outside had no crust and the inside was way too bready.

Melissa O.

Yelp
Crispy fried lox=AMAZING! Was a little confused at first but I figured out that you choose your bagel first, bring it to the counter and then add toppings. So friendly and welcoming!

Anabelle R.

Yelp
We were staying at the condor hotel right around the corner and we came across this Brooklyn gem!!! OMG the best bagel breakfast I've ever had in New York! The staff was soo friendly and made us feel right at home. I had the grilled avocado plate and my fiancé had an omelette with some kind of smoked meat on top. We both keep craving this in cali! Ohh and not to mention we bought a chocolate croissant and it was the best too! My new go to spot whenever we come to New York!

J R.

Yelp
Delicious. I got an everything bagel with salmon spread and scallion cream cheese a few days ago and am still thinking about it. Gave four stars because it's too small and nowhere to sit on a cold day, so I had to eat on the subway :/

Eamonn M.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Fried lux bagel is a go-to and a small but fantastic selection of other options. Highly recommend

Dylon W.

Yelp
One of the all time best bagels I've had in all of New York City! They also have a great selection of other breads and all are super fresh. I'm a huge fan of their lox, spicy lox, and fried lox as well! I haven't had salmon that fresh and delicious on a bagel in forever. Also! If you are a coffee drinker you must get their iced coffee. It is like liquid crack...sweet, creamy, and amazing!

Jack J.

Yelp
Bagels are good although not the best, but the pastries are amazing and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I recommend highly if you're in the neighborhood.

Rob P.

Yelp
Dense and dry bagels, lacking in flavor, and requiring significant effort to chew and swallow. Somehow, no plain bagels available at all, only whole wheat, everything, onion, sesame, and a funny croissant-shaped bagel (that was actually the best of the bunch).

Yar R.

Yelp
Very courteous service. Probably the best of the second best bagel I've had in brooklyn. Fast service. Stop her for lunch often and I've never been disappointed (so far)

Abe S.

Yelp
Their coffee is hard to beat, I have tried everything from Starbucks to all kinds of boutique. This is something special!

James G.

Yelp
Very, very good bagels with an interesting range of spreads available to have on them (also you can of course take them away). The seating area upstairs requires you to navigate a very tight spiral stairway, so that may put some people off.

Elise C.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was great! The man behind the counter was kind and even threw in an extra little cookie into our bag of pastries. The space is small but smells fantastic! We took our pastries to the park across the way and enjoyed them while taking in the neighborhood.

Amanda H.

Yelp
This place needs more reviews. It is a hidden gem and the best bagel I have had so far in NYC (beating Ess-a-bagel and Russ & Daughters). I normally get smoked salmon, onions, lettuce, tomato and scallion cream cheese. They are closed Saturdays, but this makes a perfect Sunday morning routine.

Max d.

Yelp
Absolutely disgusting . Old man touching all the bagels right in front of me . Clearly signs posted do not touch with hands . The bagels are just left out for everyone to pick from idk if thats a good system wonder how many ppl do the same thing. Very small place to do that with the bagels makes no sense! Called him out on it and told the guy behind the counter neither of them gave a shit!! Disgusting the staff didnt even care i walked right out !!!! Never looks nice but has to be dirty as hell there is no way thats sanitarty!!
