Wilma and Frieda’s Cafe Review - Palm Springs - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Wilma and Frieda’s is a bit out of the way in Palm Desert, but the comfort food here is exactly what you need after a long of mai tais. Don’t be distracted by its location next to a Saks Fifth Avenue in a fancy mall - the food is much better and more affordable than you’d expect. They serve stuff like short rib eggs benedict and a blackberry vanilla custard French toast, and all of it hovers around the $15 mark." - Brant Cox

Yummy brunch at Wilma & Frieda’s! We ordered the special chicken & waffle Benedict, short rib scramble, and a make your own scramble. Incredible service that is friendly and always coming around refilling drinks. We sat on the dog friendly patio. The cafe is very popular so there might be a wait (worth it), and they don’t take reservations. Recommend!

Fabulous find! Covered parking and located in a upscale strip mall on the beautiful El Paseo. Service was attentive and fast, we went on a Saturday morning there was a wait but we only waited I think no more than 5 minutes. This was in September so there is that. My eggs benedict was so good and the interior of this place is so cozy. Definitely give it a try if you are looking for a breakfast spot. Respectfully Reviewed.

I came here right from the airport as I knew it was only open until 2pm. It's on a few top restaurant sites, and DDD, so I of course had to try it. Although I cannot eat the scratch made biscuits and yummy looking cakes and pop tarts, the waitress recommended the Christmas enchiladas and man of man were they super flavourful with a good level of heat. I'll definitely come back or seek out this place in its other locations.

I came here on a weekday morning to try out their famous cinnamon bun. I was surprised to see it busy on a weekday morning. I ordered a vanilla latte and cinnamon bun — both were SOOOO GOOD. The bun was huge - highly recommend splitting it! My bill ended up being $15. Johnny my service was super friendly and attentive. I would 100% come back!

🍳 🥓 🍞 Popular local brunch spot with delicious French toast, creative homemade pop tarts and a full breakfast and lunch menu. The French toast was so tasty and light but it’s only 2 slices when you order the Mo (also comes with 3 eggs and bacon or sausage). It’s a busy and loud place but they do have an indoor waiting area that makes it easy. The servers were super friendly and attentive. It’s located on the second floor of the mall.

My daughter and I had a delicious brunch at Wilma & Frieda's Cafe. I had the chicken sausage, tomato, and goat cheese omlette with hashbrowns and toast. The gluten free toast was crunchy and chewy, not at all like the frozen brick bread that passes for GF toast at other restaurants, and it came with homemade strawberry jam. The portion size was huge. My daughter had the waffle, which she said was amazing - crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. The service was friendly and accommodating, and the ambiance bright and fun. Highly recommend!

Google
Delicious food with some unique combinations and varieties. The blackberry custard french toast I had was excellent. Expect to spend about $25 per person if you're getting a beverage as well.

Google
Incredible food here. My favorite is their breakfast menu and the meatloaf and eggs. Everything is so good and well prepared and served fast and hot. This is a unique experience for sure and we always come here when we’re in the desert. The staff is so nice and courteous. And the baked goods are phenomenal. Especially the pop tarts!

Yelp
This is our return trip in some time. We were greeted with a smile, seated immediately. The server was awesome, he didn't miss a step. The food was fresh and hot. There was changes, that is appreciated and I was told the stained light green upholstered chairs are soon to replaced. Thank you for improving so much. (This location is by the Apple Store)

Yelp
If you come away from here, giving this place less than 4 stars for having "bland" food, I would _seriously_ consider getting a health check-up. Having no taste can be a sign of Covid, Parkinson's, or other serious condition. Please consult your Physician. Because over the last 7 years at least, of coming here, I have never experienced anything that could be remotely considered "bland".

Yelp
Get there early to avoid a wait! Awesome biscuits and gravy - savory gravy with sausage and bacon, biscuits are homemade, hearty and delicious. And homemade hashbrowns! Eggs bene was delicious - good piece of ham, eggs perfectly poached and homemade biscuits.

Yelp
Food was delicious... the eggs were so fluffy, bacon and sausage were savory with some tater tots. The best part was the banana caramel French toast. My husband and I shared this meal and were so glad we did. Service was great and we only waited about 10-15 mins for our table. Ambiance was pretty busy with indoor and outdoor seating, and lots of natural lighting. Definitely recommend this place for brunch!

Yelp
I wanted to like this place sooo much based on the reviews. However, it was such a bad experience overall. Everyone was nice but service, attention, and flavor was lacking. Before we even took our first bite, the server asked us how our food tasted and placed the check down on the table... I've never had this happen before at a restaurant. We came at 12 and they close at 2pm. I have allergies to melon and this is the first breakfast/brunch place that has ever charged me extra in choosing a side of fruits without the ones I am allergic to which I find absurd. My party ordered 2 of the same drinks and they came out with one of them being the wrong one. We let them know and they came out with still the wrong drink. As for the food, it took quiet awhile to come out. Burger french dip ($22) - Two of my friends ordered this. The server had only asked one of them how they liked this meat cooked. The burger was juicy which is great! The fries and tater tots were super dry and bland. Short Rib Benny ($23.95) - this was so disappointing. I was so excited for this dish and the concept itself had so much potential. This was the WORST EGGS BENEDICT I've ever had. Everything about it was so bland. I got hash browns with this dish and it also was dry and bland. However, the hash browns were the best out of the rest of the potatoes options. Soy Rizo ($20.75) - this was the best dish out of everything we got. Flavorful and not dry! Cooked well. Hazlet nut Latte ($5.50 + $1.25 for hazelnut flavor) - very mid drink. Flavor tasted as if it came from the flavored cream not from syrup based. - not sweet Lemonade ($4.00) - typical lemonade drink, not comments Chocolate Mocha ($5.75 + $1.25 for chocolate) - very pretty/asethetic - the best out of the drinks we got Note: - If you pay with cash it's a bit cheaper. Our bill came out to be $121.97 but if we paid with cash it would've been $117.09 - located inside a mall, park upstairs outside of Saks

Yelp
Food was delicious!!! And plenty of it! We ordered there big plate that comes with signature french toast , blackberry one was perfect not to sweet. Our waiter was very polite and always topped off our coffee and water. The short rib Benedict's were delicious! We got to sit outside on the balcony looking out , great ambiance and views!

Yelp
Cute little modern cafe located in The Gardens on El Paseo. It was conveniently across the street from our hotel (Hotel Paseo in Palm Desert), so we were able to just stroll to breakfast. I got the biscuits and gravy, and it was surprisingly good, yet not too heavy. The only thing I was surprised about was that they don't have pancakes on the menu. Service was great. Our server kept checking on us, and she kept the mimosas flowing. Great hangover food.

Yelp
Stopped by again this morning for my dads birthday, had to get the usual, food was amazing and our server was great as well.

Yelp
Went here while on a trip and absolutely loved this place! We sat outside and had a gorgeous view. I had so much trouble deciding what to order because everything sounded amazing! The food tasted great, was a good portion size, and our server was kind. I would definitely go back again if I was nearby.

Yelp
Wilma and Frieda's is a staple in downtown Palm Springs with standard brunch fare for a reasonable price. But the best part about Wilma And Frieda's is getting a table on the second floor patio and being able to watch all of the crowds on Palm Canyon Drive from the shade of the covered patio. The hash browns are great and all of the brunch fare is very cute. The restaurant features a lot of booths indoors but I would recommend sitting outdoors if possible.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by hotel staff. I was looking for a great place to dine for breakfast. This restaurant is located inside of a mall. If you're interested in dining, I recommend arriving early as this restaurant fills up quickly, resulting in a wait. There are no reservations available. They have inside and outside seating. I had a pink elephant, which was similar to a mimosa. Delicious, hands down. I had two :). I ordered the chicken and waffles. While the waffles tasted okay, the chicken was lacking seasoning. I would still give this restaurant 4 stars based off of potential and service. The service was great! Our servers name was Vanessa. She was excellent. She described the dishes to a tee, which was greatly appreciated.

Yelp
We had a party of 10 and the wait was about an hour. Very worth it! All the dishes tasted home made with fresh ingredients. None of us had any complaints. The place is on the smaller side and stays busy but we expected this since we heard the food is great. Our waiter was Trent and he was awesome! Kept checking in on us and made sure we had everything we needed.

Yelp
Great food and service. Egg scramble and hash browns were amazing . Disappointed the toast was nothing special. The Pop Tarts were interesting and the kids in our group loved them. Banana bread French toast was interesting but way too sweet for me. There were 4 huge pieces left and no one ate more than one. My only complaint is that they don't have pancakes.

Yelp
This cozy spot in the shopping plaza is a gem! We arrived right at opening and were warmly welcomed, with the staff being especially accommodating for families with kids. I ordered an iced mocha latte with whipped cream, and it was delicious. For food, we tried the churro waffles, the short rib Benedict, and the California-style Benedict--each dish was a hit! The hash brown potatoes were crispy and, hands down, the best I've had. It's the perfect place for a relaxed breakfast outdoors, especially on a nice, chilly morning. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is my new favorite desert breakfast spot! Wilma & Frieda's is hidden on the second level of the Sachs shopping area, and I wouldn't have known it was there if I wasn't already looking for it. The decor inside is sparse and the tables are small, which made standing up feel precarious as the chairs don't slide well on the floor. Our server was very pleasant and anticipated our needs, especially as I was dining with my young niece. The Churro Waffle and the Banana Caramel French Toast were delicious, and their mocha was massive and decadent. I savored every bite and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place has been on my list for sometime to try, and we finally made it here. Ambiance was great and I loved the location (it's located within a shopping center). Customer service was very attentive and I give extra points for that! I would have to say that this place is definitely where you come if you're in the mood for baked goods or something sweet in the mornings. They make their baked goods in house, and do a real good job of it. The home made pop tarts were so good!! The french toast and homemade biscuits were also delicious. I did find some of the savory dishes little to be desired. For instance, the hash browns lacked flavor but the tater tots were great. The chilaquiles also weren't really flavorful and were more nacho-style than traditional chilaquiles. Would I come here again? Sure thing. It's super kid friendly, the vibe was upbeat and I really loved the customer service. Just some tweaks to some items on the menu and this place will be a 5 for me!

Yelp
Excellent customer service from concierge to waiters!!! Shout out to Trent!! very attentive and passionate. The managers keep on checking on us, we feel special! The stuff are hustling to avoid long wait. I ordered the house special tater tots casserole... really good! paired it with hot mocha latte... perfect!!!!! Love the ambiance, indoor and patio. We've been in Palm Springs several times, but haven't tried this place... it's worth concluding our weekend get-away by having breakfast here!

Yelp
Anniversary breakfast.... oh we came here because of DDD, but also because of that churro waffle. It looks a little perverse, but let me tell you it is AMAZING! I am not often a sweet breakfast gal, but this waffle was to die for. My husband got the scramble with olives and they were green. He was pleasantly surprised! The biscuit looked totally fresh but we were so full we didn't eat it! ( our loss) The atmosphere was good and a bit quiet on a Thursday morning (glad about that) The waiter was very attentive and friendly. I did think it was interesting that all the wait staff were men. I recommend... end of story!

Yelp
Service was horrible waiter Juan very bad attitude. Food quality wasn't great. Over priced for everything even manager wasn't helpful. not your money's worth wouldn't recommend this place. we wanted to substitute no meat and they wouldn't do it. plain waffle no topping they charge $15 for 1 piece and they charge for extra for credit even though their prices are ridiculous high.

Yelp
Loved this quaint breakfast/ brunch place to eat. The made to order pop tart was so buttery good. Loved the Carmel/ banana thick French toast. Others in our party got the delicious tuna melt , chicken salad sandwich. Would highly recommend! Service was excellent!
google avatar

Yelp
Great location with free covered parking, They serve selection of breakfast and sandwiches items. We tried the Christmas Enchiladas with generous shredded chicken and blackberry custard French toast ( like eating bread pudding), equally delicious. The service was excellent even when the place was full. It was kind of odd to see the bill with two different totals one for cash and the other if paying with credit card (obviously added the credit card fee).

Christina V.

Yelp
Good location, good service, and good food. Had the daily special-Chipotle Biscuits and Gravy. The chipotle gravy wasn't very strongly chipotle flavored and the biscuits were a little dry around the edges but overall good. (Also came with sausage, eggs and a side.). Lots of food and tasty. Also had the normal biscuits and gravy (chef chads). Again the biscuits were a little dry by themselves but were slathered in a good, tasty traditional gravy and topped with two eggs cooked to order. Also had fruit as my side and it was a nice selection with pineapple and berries and melons. Not just cheap cantaloupe or some such. Didn't try anything else but everything on the menu sounded delish. Service was good and atmosphere was fine. Would recommend.

Yelp
Nice and homey feeling breakfast establishment. The veggie omelette was tasty although the egg and vegetable balance was off. Too much egg and not enough veggies. The brioche french toast sounded good but the bread was not soft and the blueberry glaze was nothing special. The banana french toast was the tastiest dish. Friendly staff but food wise, it was good but not great.
google avatar

Ali R.

Yelp
The staff we all very nice and genuine. The food was good. The bartender was excellent. I believe his name was Mario...(I'm pretty sure). It's a cool place with a laid back vibe. I'll be back.

Yelp
Popular breakfast brunch in Palm Desert, conveniently located across the street from Hotel Paseo. Wait time is easily 30-45 minutes Ambience- okay, clean, indoor / outdoor seating Price- average Food- delicious, good portion .. you will not be hungry.
google avatar

Yelp
Our Favorite Place in the Desert to have Breakfast! Always consistent and the service is excellent!! They have an outdoor patio that has awesome Views. I had the Filet and Eggs w/Their house Potatoes my other kids had the same. We also had the eggs Benedict w/Braised short Ribs. They also have tater tots !!
google avatar

Hae K.

Yelp
The service was great. The manager was also great. Dog friendly patio. Short rib scramble- bland House potatoes- bland/raw potatoes English muffin- undercooked (raw flour taste) Blueberry pop tart- very undercooked (raw flour taste) Sausage patty- moist/great flavor but needed to be cooked longer Scrambled eggs, bacon & biscuit- perfection!

Yelp
Went for lunch and had great service. The cafe was busy but our server took our orders right away. Forgot to take food photos but husband had the meatloaf & eggs and it was tasty. It's a large dish so come hungry or be prepared to take some home. I had the turkey sandwich- which is basically a club just cut in half not 4s. It was perfect.

Jody V.

Yelp
This would have been a great place for a restaurant. Our order was taken quickly, however waited over 45 minutes for our breakfast. We ended up searching for the server and let him know just to box it up. Received it boxed up with 2 missing items.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
Attentive service, delicious food! We really liked the waffle and blackberry custard French toast.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
3.5 stars... This joint has been around for a long time because I believe they have consistent food and service, which we experienced on our visit this trip. Ordered the Mo... 3 eggs, bacon, and I opted for the banana French toast. Egg were plentiful and properly cooked. Bacon was a bit overdone and due to the thickness of the cut was a bit like jerky, lacking crispness. The caramel banana French toast was very good and fulfilled that sweet need at the end of a meal. Ambiance is rustic cafe, service was to the point but busy, and prices were slightly above expectation. With so many options in this town I cannot commit to an encore, but that shouldn't stop anyone else!
google avatar

Yelp
Very yummy! Comes out warm with a drizzle on top. Much better than any pop tart as a kid.

Yelp
We had a day off from playing golf this past Friday on our week long annual trip up from the Bay Area. We met up with our friends who live in Indio. My sis got on the waitlist. When we arrived our table was available but all had to be present before we could be seated. The special of the day - the hash brown waffle with bacon folded in and two eggs. Of the six of us - four ordered the special. Sis & I ordered the Mo with the blackberry French custard toast. I requested bacon and eggs over with the yolk poked. When it came the eggs were hot but the bacon lukewarm as was the French toast. My eggs were still runny. In hindsight I should have requested my eggs over hard. I couldn't think of the right terminology. My French toast - It's one whole slice cut in 1/2. But mine was underwhelming. The bottom 1/2 was like a 1/4. I brought this to the server's attention and later it was rectified. As for the lukewarm order - I understand they wanted to bring all the orders at one time. But our Mo orders suffered as a result. Lukewarm or hot? I prefer hot. Service was great. Our coffee cups constantly refilled.

Yelp
We've now been here a few times, making it a regular stop when we are in town. Our most recent visit was this morning. I had the tuna and cheddar melt with tater tots because I wasn't in a breakfast mood. I forgot to take a picture, but it was the perfect tuna melt! Fresh and simple tuna on sourdough bread, served with homemade tater tots that are perfection. My kids and husband enjoyed their entrees as well, and everyone left stuffed and happy!

Yelp
Excellent Food and Service , Everything was fabulous! Highly recommend!!!! Sundays are very busy.

Yelp
We had a wonderful breakfast here - eggs, hash browns, bacon (scrumptious), a biscuit and we had to try the French toast too! Sunset mimosa was wonderful and so was the coffee. Waitstaff were very attentive! Will definitely be back when in town!
google avatar

Yelp
Worth the wait! This place was recommended and every single bite was ahhmazing! We ordered a Bloody Mary and passion tea to start and dove right in to a cinnamon roll because I'm a dessert first kinda girl and it was perfection. Our meals were the griddled meatloaf and eggs and the shishito, crispy mustard bacon melt. I added pickled onions to the melt and selected the sour dough. Everything was so fresh and wonderful. So good it's going to be hard to ever try anything else there. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
Brunch is amazing here. Parking is easy in the nearby parking structure. Take the escalator upstairs and you will be at this awesome restaurant. You can eat inside or outside. Tons of unique food options and baked goods. The service was super fast and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
There is usually a really long line here, so it was nice to see that there was only a few minute wait for Christmas Eve breakfast. Overall, we had a nice meal although the food was 4/5. Our server was very polite, but the speed of the items coming out was extremely slow. it was quite busy when we went, but there were not many very large sized groups. It took about 35 minutes for our food to come out to our table of four so it was quite the wait. I chose an Iced Caramel Latte and one of their Benedict specials of the day, which was Carnitas Benedict with pico de gallo on top. Overall, it was pretty good although I've had better Benedicts more recently. The hashbrowns were nice but I wish that they were crispier. We also had gluten-free pancakes for another person at our table and they were extremely dry so overall I really feel it deserves a 4/5.

Yelp
First visit a couple weeks ago during an extended weekend stay in Palm Springs . Attentive service and enjoyed the uniqueness of the menu. My friend enjoyed the French toast and I enjoyed the meatloaf breakfast. Will definitely be back next time I am in town. :)

Yelp
We came on Saturday morning around 9am and luckily only had to wait for 5 minutes for a seat. The staff and was and service was great. We ordered the French toast with berries, short rib Benedict and soyrizo scramble. Everything was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
I can see why the brunch is such a long wait. My friends and I loved their food. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable about what they have and have great recommendations
google avatar

M B.

Yelp
Kind of a waste of your time and money. Wait time and service is slow for food that is simple and mediocre. They were out of several of the items we tried to order. We finally ordered just scrambled eggs and it took forever! The location is good but difficult to find and the atmosphere inside is pretty basic. I personally would never go back but if you have time and money to waste, go for it.
google avatar

Ivanna C.

Yelp
Food and service always great. However, today I was disgusted by the filthy conditions of the booths. Having this type of cushioning is comfortable, but totally unhygienic for a restaurant.
google avatar

Fen F.

Yelp
They had me at "pop tarts". Although we didn't order any because we were persuaded by other breakfast choices, I thought it was cute that they offered them. Thanks to Yelp, we discovered Wilma & Frieda hidden upstairs at the Gardens shopping mall. The place was packed on a Saturday morning but we were lucky to be seated right away. We ordered the custard blueberry French toast and meatloaf with eggs; both were delicious. I would have tried the prosciutto-wrapped scallop benny if we had time for a second visit but we didn't. We had to flag down servers but there were plenty of them so it wasn't an issue. Prices were slightly high but worth it for the quality and variety of menu items. As we were leaving, I stopped and salivated over the decadent items in their bakery display. Next time!
google avatar

Randy W.

Yelp
So the service is still nice and friendly! The food is also still good but no longer as amazing as before. I'm not sure why or what changed?! The place is still very clean and same decor, but my friends agree that extra special feel is missing. Update: The owners are still very active and attentive especially with their focus on their new Palm Springs location.
google avatar

Yelp
A late review, but they deserve my local support. I came here with my boyfriend for our six year anniversary on a Wednesday. We arrived around 11am and needless to say, it wasn't busy at all. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server immediately asked us for our beverages, and provided them right away. Our food was prepared I'd say around 15-20 minutes (don't quote me on that). Mimosa was ok for the price, don't expect it to be boujee. We also order the Kyle drink/arnold palmer drink (I'm not sure what the actual name was) but that was delicious! We always order off the eeny, meany, miney, or mo since it's budget friendly for us. I wish the prices were more affordable, since other restaurants in the area serve similar food options at better price.

Yelp
Been going to Wilma and Frieda's for a few years now. This place is always busy! Be sure to get there before the rush around 9:30am. Also, make sure your whole party walks in together (they won't seat you otherwise). The food has always been a hit. Their freshly made biscuits are amazing and go great with their jam. I could eat 5 for breakfast alone. I had the goat cheese and bacon omelet. The eggs were so fluffy, the whole plate looked picture perfect. This is one of the rare places where the food tastes as good or better than it looks. When it's not hot outside I'd recommend sitting on the patio, the inside can get a little cramped during the rush. All in all a great experience, the food is worth the wait/potential smushing next to people inside
