The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada | Eater

"All year long (even in a sub-zero Canadian winter), you’ll see hazy smoke clouds swirling around the Martinito family’s outdoor charcoal grill, which produces pork skewers, rotisserie pork belly, and bellychon (like a Pinoy version of porchetta). Don’t miss the Cebuano-style lechon — suckling pig stuffed and infused with lemongrass, peppercorns, and green onion — which boasts wafer-thin skin that shatters like creme brulee and blanket folds of meat that are sweet and lush. Ask for the shoulder cut, and get a bowl of pungent garlic rice to enjoy alongside. Best for: AYCE buffets on weekends, including unlimited lechon and immaculate vibes." - Tiffany Leigh

We visited Wilson Haus of Lechon around 7:30 PM, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The pork lechon was overly salty, soggy, and the skin is not crispy at all. We were given a small portion of sauce, and when we asked for more, we were told they had run out. However, just as we were finishing our meal, we saw them restocking sauces contradicting what they had told us earlier. The kilawen had a slightly bitter taste, likely due to the inclusion of lemon skin. Additionally, we found the prices to be higher compared to other places serving lechon, which didn’t match the quality of the food. On the positive side, the staff were generally nice, but two of the workers were speaking so loudly that my sister and I struggled to have a conversation. The excessive noise made the dining experience less enjoyable. Overall, we expected better food quality and service, especially given the price.

Hate to say it, but our experience came with a lot of ups and downs — from the food, to the service, to the overall place. This was our first time trying this restaurant, and we were really excited. Before heading there, we called ahead to confirm if their buffet with unlimited lechon was still available. They assured us that it was, and that the last call was at 8 PM. According to them, the buffet is $21.99, and for an extra $10, you get unlimited lechon. We arrived around 2:00 PM and told them we wanted the buffet with unlimited lechon, lechon kawali, and pork BBQ. At first, they only offered the $21.99 buffet without lechon. The lady butcher insisted multiple times that we had to order lechon separately. We explained that we had called ahead and even mentioned that their social media advertised the $31.99 buffet with unlimited lechon. Eventually, they agreed to let us avail the $31.99 option, but we were surprised they weren’t even aware of their own menu and promotion. Now, let’s talk about the food. The buffet table food was actually good — solid 4.5 out of 5. But the lechon was a big letdown. The meat was soggy and lacked flavor. The skin, which should’ve been crispy, was rubbery and chewy — we couldn’t eat it at all. Honestly, it felt like chewing gum. This was really disappointing, especially since we expected lechon to be their specialty. On the bright side, the pork BBQ and lechon kawali were delicious, so I ordered another round of just the pork BBQ. Unfortunately, there was more confusion — the staff didn't seem to realize we had paid for the unlimited lechon option. I had to explain everything again, and after some back-and-forth, the staff finally agreed to serve us. But even after that, we waited over 15 minutes, and the food still hadn’t arrived. I ended up just trying their soup while waiting. While we were there, we also witnessed some issues with other customers. One customer was told their payment didn’t go through, even though they said they paid in cash — this happened twice, with different customers. Around 3:00 PM, a new lady (a bit tall and wearing glasses) came in — probably a shift change. She was very attentive and professional. When I followed up my order with her, the BBQ was served in just 1 minute! She handled the situation very well. Another customer even complained to her about the small serving of lechon she received — enough for three people, but she was dining alone. Kudos to the new lady who came in — she made a huge difference. She honestly made me reconsider writing a negative review. But I also think it’s important to spread awareness. We weren’t expecting a perfect experience or anything beyond our expectations — just decent service and proper communication. That alone would’ve been enough. Sadly, it was lacking.

The place smells amazing already from the outside. Walked in and everyone was friendly and kind, good food and environment! Lots of meat options and complimentary sides & drinks. Their buffet is worth a try!

I found out about this place on TGTG, and I must state that they have given me one of my best experiences! Their staff are welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere is conducive. The meals are well-cooked and tasty. The barbecue chicken is 😍 and their beans is unique to me. The portions are significant as well. I recommend 👌

Google
Tried their lechon at the Harbourfront Center stand and it was great! Simple and juicy and the skin was super crispy - would love to visit their actual location some time ! We got the pork cheeks too - amazing

Google
I ordered through uber eats, the spam slices on the spamsilog is almost paper thin, and the corned beef on the cornsilog is more onion than actual corned beef. Very disappointed. I should have ordered from Tagpuan, will take long to get my food as it is far from me but they have never disappointed me and well worth it.

Yelp
Had the $21.99 brunch buffet, which includes pop & coffee. You're not getting Lechon for this price, though you can add some on. Nothing was labelled so if you're not Filipino you may not know what you're eating. They get 3.5 stars. Most dishes were decent & a few were pretty tasty. The red sausage is chicken hotdog dyed to resemble longanisa, not longanisa. The garlic fried rice is pretty tasty. The lumpia shanghai (spring rolls) had a lot of meat & were pretty tasty, though somewhat dry. The pandesal is soft, fluffy, fragrant & rich & the tapioca cake is pretty good. You don't get new plates & water is self service. They rotate dishes so you can try new things after a while.

Yelp
Haus of Lechon is my friend and I's favourite spot for Filipino food in little Manila. We got the Silog combo. Which comes with rice, fried egg, and your choice of meat. SiLog is a classic Filipino breakfast. Garlic fried Rice, fried egg, and usually leftovers from last night's dinner. I got the bbq pork silog and it was so satisfying. They make good bbq pork here and I wish I had more than one skewer. They also make a pretty good Halo Halo here; Ube ice cream, crushed ice, milk in the middle, and the fixation like beans and coconut jelly. The only thing I would change is if they put real fruit in it like jackfruit and mango, it would make a whole difference but still so good. I also got to try kutsinta for the first time. Which is a type of Filipino dessert/snack made out of tapioca flour, and brown sugar. It's jiggly and chewy. It's not too sweet and it was a treat at the end of the meal. The restaurant functions more like a fast food take out spot. You have to order your food at the cashier and bring the food to your seat. The staff are super nice and friendly. The sitting area is kinda limited. You might have to be open to sharing the table with fellow Filipino food lovers. The space n and ambiance isn't something to rave about. It is dated. Not that I'm complaining. I'm just here for the yummy food.

Yelp
Overview: The food is really good, but they need to hire Marie Kondo to help them organize. The good: The food is very authentic, and the owners and wait staff are very friendly. This restaurant is meat-centric, so if you are a vegetarian... you will have a hard time finding anything to eat here. Each dish is basically meat and rice. We had the milk fish and it was amazing. Also, the prices are very reasonable. The bad: We came late in the evening, so most of the menu items were not available. It didn't seem like they had any vegetables, aside from a very tiny cucumber and tomato salad. Also, few dessert options. The seating area is very disorganized and not well laid out. The restaurant, in general, is over-crowded, and feels more like a storeroom with a kitchen in the middle. My guess is that most of their business is take-out or delivery. Photos online show a well laid out dinning area, unfortunately, most of those photos were taken over 5 years ago. Conclusion: Not the best place for dine-in eating, but great authentic meat dishes at a reasonable price.

Yelp
I would have given it 3 but after telling her I don't want the fatty bits she continue shaving off just the fatty top layer just underneath the crispy skin of the roasted pig! I got combo #5 like she suggested! Not sure if I want to come again! Felt a bit ripped off as she was weighting everything she cut! I just have 1/4lbs of pure fat! She claims no more spring rolls but there were two left on the tray! She was gonna sub it with noodles! I got the combo just to try the spring rolls. If I come back I'll make sure not to order from her again! Otherwise it'd be all fat again! I really wanted to try the pork belly but it looked like it was just tossed in the fryer! At $14.99 per piece I can do that at home.

Yelp
A year ago, I dined in and ordered the lechon baboy (roasted pork) meal. The pork was disappointing, the meat was super dry and the skin was tough. Fast forward a year, I decide to give this restaurant another try after seeing long line ups. I ordered the whole grilled chicken to go for $14.50. The chicken was hot when they gave me the order and was still warm after a 15 mins drive. When I got home, the chicken was nicely roasted and was stuffed with a stalk of spring onion and a few pieces of ginger. I dug into the chicken drumstick first and it was juicyyyy! The skin seems to be seasoned with garlic and finished off with a honey glaze. I also had some meat fron the chicken breast and even though it wasn't as juicy as the drumstick, it was significantly more tender than the rotisserie chicken you get from the supermarket. I will probably come back to give their lechon baboy another try. Tip: Pay cash and you don't have to pay tax.

Yelp
During this pandemic, Wilson's is such a blessing! The food is affordable and always perfect for pick-up, and with their generous portions, it lasts us for 2-3 meals! Love that they cut the crispy pork belly into bite-sized pieces; we put it with everything from stir-fry to perogies to couscous! My favourite thing, though, has to be the chicken inasal; these chicken pieces are juicy and tasty all the way through. And the price point is perfect for those of us on a budget. Right now, their patio area is up and it's perfect for a nice meal outside. Try them out!

Yelp
Bought pork bbq, lechon, and mongo. Enjoyed the bbq and mongo. Didn't get to try the lechon, but my family loved it. I was informed that they are actually famous for the cebuchon and pork belly. I'll try it next time.

Yelp
I went to Wilson's Haus restaurant after seeing their videos on TikTok. Wilson's Haus is a Filipino BBQ restaurant. I don't know anything anything about Filipino food so I just ordered a dish. I took the food home and it was chicken on rice. The chicken was pretty good and tatsy. Would I go back? Maybe to try their pork dishes.

Yelp
Had this place on my radar for some time to give a try when in the area. So when the opportunity came I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant wasn't overly busy and I was served without any delay. I ordered a grilled chicken combo ( chicken leg, rice, (2) spring rolls, and a pop) plus an order of liempo (pork belly). The combo wasn't very good IMHO with all quite cold. The rice was dry and stuck together in a clump and the spring rolls looked like they had been sitting around for a while, cold and soggy. The Liempo wasn't too bad but was also cold. Would have been nice to have a dipping sauce but they didn't have any. Although the portion size was ok, it wasn't really very good value for your money with the combo priced at $17.49 and the liempo at $17.99 it came to just over $40.00 with tax. Anyway not really much to draw me back again.

Yelp
I didn't really know what to expect walking into Wilson's Haus of Lechon, but seeing a full roasted pig lying on a slab sure raised my hopes. I wasn't disappointed. We decided to share a couple of platters, and so we got roasted chicken and roasted pork. Both proteins were absolutely delicious; the white-meat chicken was impressively juicy and quite flavorful, while the pork was as tender as you could ever hope. The other components didn't fare quite as well, unfortunately. The mound of plain white rice needed something to jazz it up, while the included spring-roll-type concoctions were a little too dry and meat-heavy for my liking. I wasn't crazy about the included soup, either. But such complaints are moot in the face of delicious meat.

Yelp
Of course you come here to try their lechon chicken and pork! My fav part is always the crackling skin of the pork and the jucy skin of the chicken and they delivered on taste! There's something in the broth of their soup that's so yummy! I'm always a fan of squeeze bottles and they had those for the lechon sauce and their vinegar mix! Noms! Also bonus points on the complimentary water dispenser in the back if you just want water and toothpick and napkins at the table cause ya know people will get all up in their food. It's the little things :)

Yelp
Their lechon (whole roasted pig) is amazing... Their lechon manok (spit-roasted chicken) is amazing.. Their pork belly is amazing... I just cannot give this place more than 4 stars. The nerve of not wanting to sell combo meals in the weekend because they say "they want to finish all their food" for the weekend, even though you can see the kuya's outside cranking more food. Just be honest and say, "it's the WEEKEND so the reason why we don't want to sell set combo meals is because we want to take advantage of the busy weekend rush and make MORE MONEY by selling things a la carte". Just be honest! LOL.

Yelp
Wilson's Haus of Lechon was one place I just had to try. Two words: Cebu Lechon. Cebu is known for their exquisite Lechon and the Lechon here did not disappoint. We didn't dine in so my review is based solely on our take-out experience and, of course, the food. Right outside you can see the Lechon being grilled over an open fire and the service when entering was pleasant and quick (we initially visited Sampaguita Village across the street first but their customer service was so poor while we waited to be served - different review coming. Ha!). The vibe is cozy, restaurant was clean and plenty of room to dine-in. We ordered Lechon manok, pork, pancit, bbq skewers, lumpia and turon. All were so tasty; we especially loved the pancit, Lechon manok (chicken) and turon. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Yelp
I visited this place last year and really enjoyed the food. Sad but the place went downhill. Everything we ordered is not as good as before. Lechon (roast pig) tasted a little bland and skin is not crispy. Lechon Manok(roast chicken) is still good. Just find the skin part super salty. Chicken inasal(grilled chicken) very dry and some part tasted like gas. Pansit(stir fry noodles) is ok. But served cold. Overall not good! Could be because its taste of manila and place was very busy? It will take me a long time before considering to come back. Staff are friendly and service is ok.

Yelp
Instagram got me curious about this place so a group of us had to check it out. Its this small place on the south west side of Bathurst and Wilson. At first look it seems very unassuming, like your average Filipino eatery and then the smell of lechon hits you. Oh man. I was transported back to the restaurants from back home that just specialized in lechon baboy. The smell is what I hope heaven will smell like. Now we already had high exectations because there was so much hype about this place already but the food did not let us down. The lechon was juicy and delicious. And the skin... Omg the skin. Salty and crunchy. I just had to close my eyes and appreciate how amazing it all tasted. Not to be outdone are their lechon manok and lumpia. Both outstanding dishes. The servers were all so friendly. It was an overall enjoyable experience. I am already planning on coming back.

Yelp
I love it! Lechon is just a word in which basically means the way food is cooked over an open fire pit. Technically anything can be lechon. (chicken for example) This place has a small sit down area and is generally more of a pick up and go kind of place. However, I was in it for a dine in. So my boyfriend and I ordered a pound of the lechon baboy, and the grilled tilapia. We were served a soup and some steamed rice to go with our meal. We were also given 2 sauces to go with the lechon. One was a little more sweet, and the other was a soy sauce based mixture. Everything was so tasty and there is so much on the menu that I want to try like the crispy pata or the liempo (ribs). The best part of our meal though? It has got to be the skin. Oh man oh man, that crispy skin is something else. I also loved how friendly everyone was. You walk in and you just feel welcomed right away. I highly recommend anyone who is a huge carnivore to come here and try how they make the lechon. Also from BlogTO and thestar.com , the writers mentioned that Wilson's Haus specializes in suckling pig too. Yum!

Yelp
This is a great Phillipine BBQ place. I opted for the chicken combo and upgraded to a half chicken. Chicken was very delicious. Came with lumpia which I haven't had in ages. I'd definitely go back and try the pork. Clean family run business.

Yelp
First time going into this place. I was driving by and was intrigued by the wonderful smell of roasting meat. I tried their roasted pork belly which they chopped into bite size pieces. Amazing flavour, roasted to perfection, amazing crispy skin, bursting with juices when you bite into it. I have never tried this place before, Safe to say I'll be back soon.
google avatar

Linda N.

Yelp
The food at this place isn't bad. But the customer service skills of this place is definitely lacking. They need better management and organization.
google avatar

Mae R.

Yelp
Ordered almost everything they had in the menu. Owners were super friendly. Ordered lechon manok and pork lechon and so much more. Anyways, everything was good - lechon skin was crispy and well flavored. Lechon manok was moist and a bit sweet. Mongo soup was good, tortang talong was perfect. I can't even remember the other dishes. I would definitely visit again next time I come to Toronto.

Paul W.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! Great Lechon! So delicious! I enjoyed everything that we tried on the menu. Great people there serving the food and the food is amazing!
google avatar

Liza D.

Yelp
Taste of Manila we decided to eat in instead of buying from booth. We were a big group so we had to wait. Service was bad. Requested extra plate because I was sharing with my son-never came. Requested water -never came. The smoke from their roaster was blowing to customers. Made me teary eyed a few times. Only one washroom in the lower floor, so if you are disabled in a wheelchair- good luck. The lechon skin was not crispy, the lechon manok and BBQ were cold. Buko-Pandan juice was good. There is ice candy- mango and avocado flavour for $1, not sure if this is regular item or Taste of Manila period only. It's not frozen! Chairs were not comfortable. Plastic benches, uneven tables. No fans, no AC. Unpleasant experience overall.

Yelp
I had a very laid back dining experience here. It's hard not to when the place is so casual, but arriving late meant that I didn't partake in ordering, and having the baby with me also meant that I wasn't completely focused on eating and had to leave early. Fortunately, I was meeting up with a Filipino friend who I trusted in ordering the food and I'd say he made some good choices. We had a simple chicken stir fry (very homey and tasty), a rice noodle dish (I think it's called pancit? I loved it), half a rotisserie chicken (juicy, tender, though the skin wasn't crispy), and of course, the pork lechon, which is grilled right outside the restaurant - I just love that charcoal grill smell! My friend said that they do lechon the right way here by using the correct spices/seasonings. I wouldn't know but it was tasty. You can also get take-out, which seemed to be very popular. I was seriously considering taking home a slab of lechon pork belly ($12)... The restaurant is set up so that there is the take-out/ordering counter with some ready-made food on one side, and another room off of it (that was obviously part of an expansion from the counter side) that fits maybe 25-30 people at casual tables and chairs (seat yourself). They are kid/family-friendly and have high chairs. I will note that it is not baby-friendly in that there is only one bathroom without a change table. The restaurant is in a small strip mall with parking right along the storefront but because there are other businesses (including another lechon place I think), it's hard to find parking. There is street parking on the side though. Oh, one other drawback - I don't think they are licensed to sell alcohol. And I'm fairly certain they don't take reservations since it's such a small place. I'd love to come back to try some other fares but it's a bit far from home for me so I probably won't have the chance to.

Yelp
Im from Cebu and I know what real Cebu lechon baboy taste like. Flavour is there but it needs more salt and more Cebu flavour. The lechon skin is not crispy anymore. Nevertheless, its better than any lechon I have tasted in Toronto. Lechon manok is a different story. Like the other reviews, it is delish and taste like back home. We ordered 1 pound lechon ($15.99), 1 kawali ($9.99), 1 lechon manok ($12.99), 1 bbq pork skewer ($2.99) and 3 rice ($4.50) and 3 clear soup (free). I paid $56 including tax and tip. Not much vegetable option. Would love if they sell fresh lumpia to compliment their food (hint hint). Will I come back? Maybe once a year of cholesterol overload is good enough. Staff were friendly and accommodating. If management is reading this, plesse Seasoned the lechon baboy with more salt.

Yelp
We came here specifically for their lechon. When we got there, we were warmly greeted by the staff. As we survey the food station (All of the food is warmed in a steam table) the roasted pig was almost non-existent. We asked when will they have another one available, they said not until 6pm. We got there around 4pm. So, instead of having scraps of lechon and not wanting to wait for a fresh one, we decided to order combo 4 which is: 1/2 roasted chicken, with lumpia, steamed rice and pop. We also ordered sisig. We were eating for 2, so we ordered an extra bowl of steam rice. I asked if they had garlic fried rice, but they didn't. Would've been nice if they had that option. The pork belly caught our attention, as that would've been a great alternative, but they admitted that it was made yesterday and for $2 cheaper (From $12 to $10). I respect them for their honesty, but no way am I eating pork belly that was made yesterday. As we're seated, waiting for our food, there's Christian music playing from the TV. It was a little loud for our liking, especially since their dining area is right by the TV. As we dig into our food, we're disappointed because everything was barely warm. The sisig was rubbery, because it was laying in a steam table for who knows how long. Sisig should be fresh, made to order, or else it won't be the same. The chicken was barely tolerable. I drenched everything in Man Tomas sauce and spicy vinegar to make it better. Overall, a disappointment. I'd only come back if we're lucky enough to make it there when they have fresh lechon and pork belly that wasn't made the day before. Sampaguita Village literally across the street is better for Filipino food.

Yelp
I went there to get some roasted pig take out. Before entering, you can smell their bbq outside the restaurant. Yum. I have been dying to go ever since they opened but didnt. I must say, i am very impressed with their roasted pork. It was tender, succulent, juicy and flavorful. I loved every bite. It was warm too and not cold. The skin was crispy and delicious. I got one bbq skewer and that was tasty too! The service was fast and friendly. I would go back again in a heart beat! I just wish I bought more! Unfortunately I have no photos . I ate it all. You guys should list yourselves on tripadvisor too!

Yelp
VERY BAD SERVICE FROM STAFF AND WILL WASTE YOUR TIME. Brought my wife and 2.5-year-old daughter to this restaurant this evening for dinner around 7:10 PM. Queued up for more than 20 minutes, the cashier took the order around 7:39 PM (Paid for it), waited after an hour and half of the order was still not available! Escalated to the new cashier on duty and they mentioned they gave the other half of my order to another customer! Waited for another 30 minutes then finally got the second half of my order. The manager/owner was apologetic and refunded the part of the order. Looks like a really mismanaged restaurant. Apart from the questionable cleanliness, the staff looks like they are all over the place. Avoid eating here if you value your time!
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
Excellent in every way. The pork bellies are BBQing low and slow in front of the restaurant before you enter. The atmosphere is very casual and family friendly. This is a family run and family owned business. The employees are very happy to help and educate those not familiar with Filipino cuisine. Everything we ordered was truly amazing. We left with take-out container and even ordered more on our way out. It's that good. Try the pork belly and jackfruit dish. Amazing!!!

Yelp
There were a lot of people there. Ordered the Lechon Liempo takeout. Cashier said 10 minutes of wait but didn't come for 30 minutes. I then said something and then got my food right after. Food was great and they cooked the meat outside of the store. They also forgot the sauce. So I am not entirely sure if I will make another visit.

Pepe C.

Yelp
The belly lechon i bought today for $180 is so salty. Not fit for human consumption. I am just being honest. Sorry guys...

Ryan L.

Yelp
The lechon is moist flavourfull and skin crispy. Will be back to try the other food. You can see the chef's roasting the pigs right in front of the restaurant.

Emy S.

Yelp
Ordered lechon here yesterday. The meat is yummy but the skin is soggy n rubbery. First time ever a lechon with no crispy skin at all!!! Will not order again and none of my friends andguests too. I wouldexpecttheyhave perfected the crispy lechon but Never In my life i have seen such bad lechon skin!

Dog A.

Yelp
Awful. Lechon skin was chewy, not crispy as if should be. Their bbq pork on a stick was salty and dry. They don't know how to cook and season their food. It looks impressive when they're outside barbecuing but the quality of meat and the flavours were disappointing. Don't bother.

Kiah C.

Yelp
So sad to say that the meat of the roasted pork that I tried was like it came out from the freezer with my hot rice. The meat was not good and smells like rotten, it looks horrible, looks like it was stored from the freezer for how many days and reheat again, just to resell all over again.

Louis L.

Yelp
I never leave any reviews anywhere but this place really made me dig up my yelp account and and post one. Came here at 7 pm hoping to grab some dinner/food. The place was absolutely packed and there was no observable line up anywhere. Staff were in a chaotic mess and had no idea who ordered what. We tried to order the suckling pig and chicken but they were sold out. We asked what they had that wasn't sold out and they only said the things in the window. This place closes at 10 pm but seems to run out of food way before 7 pm. They only had some pork skewers (2.99 a pop), rotisserie chicken (6.99 per half), and fried chicken (3 pieces for $5). Ended up getting 4 skewers and 3 pieces of fried chicken to go. We left and after looking into the bag, we were only given one small piece of a chicken thigh that was over 50% bone. The whole meal ended up costing almost $20 (for 4 skewers and 1 piece of chicken???) and that is absolutely absurd for what food we got. The pork skewers were DRY and the chicken was small. The sauce for the skewers were decent and the spice used on the chicken was good. Even finding parking in the tiny little lot is a pain. So you better go park on some side street and walk! If you come here without knowing what to order, you will be lost. The menu is unfriendly to those who don't know what lechon is or what pork and chicken is in Filipino. In addition, they don't have any sign of what is sold out or not. They also don't take credit card apparently, so bring cash or debit. Overall, come early if you want to avoid the line and actually get some non sold out food.

Yelp
Never picks up the phone and never have enough menu items in stock. They also close whenever they want and do not give any indication as to why they are closed when they are supposed to be open as stated online. Total waste of my time.

Yelp
The lechon was cold and the skin was not crunchy at all. So disappointed - not going back to wilson's lechon or order lechon from there.
