Pork Roll Ice Cream Is the Ultimate New Jersey Delicacy | Eater

"This Fredon Township dairy farm has turned a regional favorite into a novelty ice cream: pork roll (Taylor ham) ice cream made with oven- and pan-fried, caramelized Taylor ham pieces that are finished with cinnamon and sugar. To counter the meat’s salinity, maple syrup and bits of French toast are folded into the base—managing partner Jake Hunt felt an all-pork-roll ice cream would be “gross” without a sweet counterpoint. Each two-gallon carton contains roughly 2.5 pounds of crispy pork roll bits. The flavor is part of an “Only in Jersey” line (alongside blueberry, sweet corn, and “tomato pie” flavors) set to be available statewide this summer, and it’s expected to resonate with New Jersey’s love of old-school ice cream parlors and greasy pink breakfast meats." - Greg Morabito

Such a cute store inside and out! The lines are usually a bit long for the coffee and ice cream window but it is worth the wait. I went inside and got a carrot cake croissant and OMG! The best thing I’ve ever had! Not kidding!! The ingredients used were super authentic and baked/whipped to perfection. I hope it stays on the menu thru every season lol. My sis got the peanut butter marshmallow brownie and it was perfect. Really love the new ideas they have though for ice cream, coffees and pastries. Always different combinations for them and they inspire me to try something new when I go out. And it’s always so good. Staff is always very kind even though it gets pretty busy and overwhelming. Great place to come for apple picking too! Excited for pizza season!

Google
Amazing experience! We went for one of their pizza days and it was worth every penny! They are super kid friendly and all their staff were kind and helpful. We all had ice cream which was delicious! The pizza was so fresh and the arugula salad with apples, squash, goat cheese, and candied pecans was out of this world! I also waited in line for 30 minutes to try their coffee which did not disappoint! In the summer/early autumn they get very busy so plan accordingly but even with a bit of wait we had the best time!

Google
I volunteer at OSCAR dog shelter, and we had an adoption event in their parking lot today. First ever time going there. It's a nice place. I only had ice cream, but the make lots of other food. The wood-fired pizza smelled delicious, and volunteers local to the area said that the food there is great.

Google
Absolutely fantastic pizza Comma wow, and I'm from New York. The dough is soft the pizza is cooked to Perfection and the toppings combinations are perfection.

My daughter and I have been here a few times within the last month. I can’t say enough about how great it is!! The farm store with all the baked goodies - OMG! We don’t have a favorite because everything we tried is AMAZING!! The raspberry choc croissant is spectacular! I bought peaches - wow were they juicy and delicious! I also thought the prices were great as well! The coffee is excellent! I know when it’s really good when I don’t need sugar for it :) the Ice cream is crazy good too! They do a FANTASTIC job and to get all homemade baked items now adays is unheard of! Keep up the GREAT work!

Google
Stopped in recently looking to try a new farm. Their small bakery section was open for the season, so we stopped eager to see what they had. We got both the almond and pistachio croissants, both were amazing but def loved the almond more! Give this place a try if you haven’t already

Google
There are many varieties of apples! Which we really enjoyed.Delicious pecan bar, doughnuts stole my heart! I was looking forward to try brick oven pizza, but it’s not always available.(you need to check schedule for that) If you go with kids there are no activities for them.

Google

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful and calming experience at Windy Brow this Saturday! We went to try their coffees - I got the blueberry muffin latte (coming back for sure to try more drinks) and he got the salty caramel shaken espresso, both were fantastic! Such creative and fun drinks. We also split a blood orange coconut pineapple sorbet because it sounded so good and it was so refreshing. Tasted like summer. We sat underneath the portico in the shade and it was so beautiful outside. Perfect weather. The employee who helped us at the coffee stand was so friendly too. We checked out the farm store inside and loved how picturesque it was and all the products they offer. I bought some vegan salty chocolate chip cookies which I am so excited to try! Overall, beautiful farm and farm store / coffee stand. We loved it and will be back as soon as we can.

Yelp
We were excited to come here and check out the ice cream, pizza and bakery. Perhaps we arrived on an off day, but the ice cream was only okay - we got the sweet corn and honey as well as the Madagascar vanilla. My husband thought it tasted watered down and while I didn't dislike the sweet corn and honey, I wouldn't need to try it again. They do have really cool flavors, and maybe it was my own thing, but I didn't really want to ask to try too many of them as the lines are long here. I tried the taylor ham and french toast one and while interesting... wasn't for me lol The girl taking the ice cream orders was fine. One thing I will say is my little guy is an ice cream loving toddler (as they tend to be) and he had one bite of the ice creams and passed. We were both pretty shocked. Even after several tries, he was not interested... The bakery/store was cute, but not much left. Prices were also a bit steep - $6 for a tony croissant. Perhaps earlier in the morning when they might've been fresher, I would've considered it more, but it looked like it had been sitting. The girl at the register was very nice though. We had originally wanted to come to try the pizza, but when we arrived around 5pm on a Sunday, it was an hour and a half wait even if we wanted the pizza to go. The guy over there was really nice and apologetic even though he didn't need to be. Hopefully we can try it at some point if we're ever nearby again. additional note - there are only 2 port-a-pottys for restroom needs.

Yelp
We drove 1.5 hours out of our way to visit the farm today, Wednesday arriving about 12 noon. The store was practically deserted and many of the shelves were bare. There was no bread, little in the way of pastries and no apple cider donuts. They was very little fruit also. It was a total waste of time; if weekends are different, the Website should be amended.

Yelp
Many thanks to Jake Hunt for addressing the customer service concerns I voiced in my Yelp review of 7/22/25 (see below). Jake responded within several hours of my Yelp review being posted, and it shows his dedication to his business and his customers. The points he covered demonstrate an understanding of the need for a business to acquire and maintain its customers. I've been coming here since the 1960's, and now the 4th generation of our family is shopping here. It's a wonderful, magical place, and I thank Jake and his staff for keeping it so. YELP REVIEW FROM 7/22/25: Customer service could be better. When we asked the cashier about some products that we've purchased on past visits, but couldn't find this time, she simply replied in a disinterested tone that whatever they have is on the shelves. No help. We picked out some bakery items and asked her to bag the order and set it to the side while we continued our search. Later, when we opened the bag, we discovered that the cashier had simply dropped the entire order in a pile in the bottom; no wax paper to ensure the baked goods stayed moist, no care for the fragility of the food. The paper bag had absorbed some of the moisture, so some of the items were dry; others were broken into chunks of crumbs. Windy Brow is a terrific place, but this person is not doing their part to ensure it remains so.

Yelp
Searched all Summer for my favorite ice cream spot and this is it! Better than The Bent Spoon. Better than Cliffs. Better than Milk, Sugar, Love. THE BEST! I just wish they would work on their customer service!! Peak Summer time, there's a line for the one window. Today, on a cool day in the Fall, 2 people in front of me, I probably waited 20 minutes. There was staff back there but only ONE guy was working it. He was the only one making coffee and the only one scooping the ice cream. Why couldn't the other staff chatting it up back there scoop ice cream? It's a bad look. I wish I didn't love their ice cream so much.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting Windy Brow. I follow on social media and see a lot of posts for the farm store and the brews/ice cream window. We tried the lavender ice cream which was very tasty and had a nice subtle lavender taste and was nice and creamy. The coffee was very good exactly the kind of brew that I like! I wish the store had a little more stuff inside maybe we came at an off season time I was looking for eggs and some veggies etc. I did get some bread which I have been enjoying. I think we will come back when it's warmer out and maybe when the farm is in "full swing". PS...Really loved that the ice cream flavors are fun and unique :)

Yelp
Windy Brow is one of my most photographed ice cream places. My mom told me about the farm when she was coming up to kayak at Swartswood State Park over the summer. The moment she said "Taylor ham and French toast flavor" I was sold! That's one of my favorite flavors along with cake and sprinkles, chocolate covered potato chip peanut butter and jelly, and fig with honey, walnut and ricotta. They also sell coffee, bread, and other baked goods.

Yelp
Farm fresh ice cream form the BEST farm. Pictured here is honey lavender. This place serves their ice cream perfectly creamy

Yelp
Great experience here. Very reasonably-priced apple picking. You purchase bags in the store ranging from $14-$32. No entrance fees or mandatory bag purchase per person. YOu can purchase one bag for a group...which was a welcomed option and alternative to other farms requiring individuals to purchase bags and making apple picking cost $100+ per family. I like the no-frills approach not throwing in tons of "attractions" and grouping them into an all-inclusive ticket costing $30/per person. Kudos for NOt going this route. You can walk to the apple picking areas or take the tractor. The trees had adequate apples on them...though I was a bit saddened to see the tons of apples on the ground which will likely be thrown out. I hope those coming to pick are mindful to pick only what they plan to take...I know many farms and orchards stress this in an effort to minimize waste. The orchard row are clearly labeled. There was a small pumpkin patch area where you can buy pumpkins by the pound. The store really stood out...lots of options: apples, honey, ice cream, meat, sauces, jams and a ton of baked goods. Bread, pies, cupcakes, muffins and other pastries. We for a variety of baked goods and all of them were great. Prices were fair for a farm store of this quality. One highlight of the visit was the coffee and ice cream window on the side. A wide variety of some really interesting ice cream flavors. The prices were also pretty reasonable. ($4-8 depending on number of scoops) A great variety of coffee and latte flavors as well. All staff we encountered were very nice. Great operation...keep up the good work.

Yelp
Well, the reviews don't lie for this place. I was optimistic and decided to go here anyway. My husband and I were really disappointed. I thought this farm would have more things to do. We took a 1 hour drive to come here thinking that this place was going to be amazing . Well we decided to go inside the shop and wow the prices were very expensive. The donuts were a 6 pack for I think $7.00. I would have at least some samples out so you can try them. We decided to leave and get some homemade ice cream. The only good thing about this spot was that the ice cream was amazing. The donuts were alright. I would have warmed up the donuts a little bit so they were so hard, and they tasted alright. The views are also beautiful as well. Other than that, we were really disappointed we thought there was going to be more to this pace.

Yelp
G First time here. Heard do many good things about it. Heard they had Honey Lavender ice cream along Taylor Ham & French Toast ice cream. Was WELL WORTH the trip. Thought would be bigger. Prices were a bit high I thought. But would definitely take a 35 min drive up there again.... Had to try the apple cider donuts as well. Awesome...

Yelp
I do not know what to say, words can not truly express the quality of the edible delights that are produced by this place. The Hunt family: Jake, Jim and Linda are phenomenal hosts. We have been enjoying their creations for years. Whenever we are heading up to Sussex County we have to stop at "The Brow". We enjoy their coffees, ice cream, breads, pastries, pies, fruits, veggies, pizza...ok everything. They are the sole reason that I have to watch what I eat during the week - this is so I can reward myself with all of their scrumptious creations on the weekend, every weekend. This past weekend was earth shaking, my world was rocked by THE best pie I have ever tasted. The Peach Pie is out of this world. Hurry while the peaches are still in season, get there early for warm peach pie. Please save one for me.

Yelp
Such a cute place, staff is so nice and helpful. This morning they had these lemon meringue croissants that were absolutely amazing. Everything about them is top notch!
google avatar

Caralyn S.

Yelp
Windy Brow is hands down my favorite place in Sussex County. You will not find any better ice cream in the area and if I had to pick just one to eat the rest of my life from anywhere, it would be the Windy Brow Salty Caramel. Everything from the coffee to the pastries and the ice cream is perfection. Jake is a master of his craft and this place is a true gem.
google avatar

Ric T.

Yelp
Lots of kids here today. Oh it's a lovely full day and just happens to be a holiday and there is a line to enjoy the variety of ice creams they sell, one being Madagascar vanilla bean ice cream. There's a large apple orchard, with various types of apples that one picks by paying for a bag. No weighing like other farms I have frequented. The store is located in the front. I feel the prices are a bit high in here. Homemade pies are $21-25.

Yelp
Perfectly delightful time here. I came in the morning for the pumpkin spice latte I saw it posted on their social media. While I was in their shop they had freshly made pies. The pies were actually warm! Right out of the oven. The freshly made cider donuts too I definitely picked up some of those. They had all kinds of apples for sale and they give you descriptions of each kind. This was wonderful to see the bio that goes along with the different types of apple!! Let me say another very fantastic surprise I have definitely took advantage of was the freshly baked bread. They were so many different kinds. But let me say that I really enjoyed my spinach scone. It was very delicious and if I had a ukulele with me I would've played a song for it. (^.^) We dropped our items off in the car and then walked around to the side where they had ice cream for sale because my friend needed to have French toast with Taylor ham flavored ice cream. I never heard of such a thing and my friend really enjoyed the ice cream! (^^) While I was here I saw they had here it's available and folks were dressed up to get family pictures taken! What a great idea. (^.^) The ladies that work here are so helpful and so friendly. I really had such a pleasurable experience here!! I'm a big fan of that spinach scone. I'll probably dream about it. I definitely want to come back here a lot. Yum

Yelp
Stopped in for some plums and Seeded Sourdough bread. I can't wait for fall and the delicious apples. They were delicious!
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Best apple doughnuts you will ever have. Much better place than the high volume farms many from the city go to. A gem!
google avatar

Sasha G.

Yelp
Such sweet, kind people at Windy Brow farms. We stumbled here on a rainy Sunday morning. All pastries were half off (on Sundays) so that was a lovely surprise. Highly recommend their pastries. We got apple cider donuts too. I can't wait to go in the fall for their apple picking and to try their homemade ice creams!

Linda P.

Yelp
Quality food. Fresh baked bread and apples off the trees. Pies are awesome and all the desserts are yummy. My favorite stop.
google avatar

Yelp
We had their pizza on Sunday! It was amazing and very quaint atmosphere. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend

Yelp
One of the best places to get apple cider donuts!! They were so good, moist and cakey! Balance of flavor and sweetness was perfect. They sell it for $6 for 6 pieces in a bag. Worth the calories! Lol Aside from the donuts, the sourdough they had was good too along with the ice creams. I tried the taylor ham/french toast and honey lavender and both were VERY good! I could finish that pint by myself if I had no self control ehem haha lots of good things to check in their shop. We really came here for apple picking though but the shop experience kinda overshadowed that a bit. I loved that we can get a ride back and forth from the apple picking area to the main entrance as it did get a little muddy from the rain when we went. They provide picking poles which were convenient and the apples all looked healthy. There wasnt much at the pumpkin area so we skipped that. Overall, it was a fun experience despite the gloomy rainy weather. Oh and they are dog friendly!! Happy to have stopped by.

Yelp
I have been trying to come here for a while and finally made it. I ordered their grapefruit Rose vegan ice cream and my boyfriend ordered their ricotta, honey and walnut ice cream. The grapefruit rose ice cream was a nice combination but I did enjoy my boyfriends choice better. It's a walk-up order system and they had about 12-15 different flavors to choice from. All were very unique combinations so if you are looking for out of the norm flavors, this would be a great choice. Their prices were fair and they also sell iced coffees and teas/lemonades. I ordered a Peach ginger Iced tea and it was delicious and refreshing. There is about 6-7 long tables with partly covered seating located in the country side. Great ice cream location.

Yelp
Seasonal flavors of Ice Cream, as well as pies, baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables. The Affogato here is really really gooooood (vanilla ice cream with a shot of Espresso).

Mubina B.

Yelp
Nice wholesome family outing experience, a little pricey for some of the fruits or vegetables.

Kimberly N.

Yelp
We love love love Windy Brow and regularly order for thanksgiving, get ice cream and fresh fruit and veggies!

T W.

Yelp
The produce is fantastic! Peaches yummy! Wanted to get ice cream but we had a two hour ride to go home. Next time! Fantastic choices for gift baskets and charcuterie boards! The bakery items that we had were great, but the cornflake cookies were "to die for"!!! Love this place. Wish it was closer to our home.
google avatar

Steffi T.

Yelp
We liked the place so much so that we were willing to spend 3 hr round trip to get to the farm and recommended the place to our friends. However, it went downhill very quickly. Called them to make sure they had the what we were looking for before making the drive. They said "yes, no problem, we definitely have them". When we got there, they first told us they never had that product in store (which is not true as we bought it just few weeks earlier), then said it wouldn't be available until August We are very disappointed with the farm. They could've told us on the phone, before we made that 3 hr round trip. It was a complete waste of time
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Pro--No admission fee! Lots of varieties of apples and ice cream!! Would definitely recommend coming a before noon for a smaller crowd. What was really relaxing was the wagon ride bringing you to and from the apple orchard. On the day we went, it was $12 for bag to pick half a peck of apples. Pies $21-$25. Ice cream flight $18 for 6 scoops which was reasonable. Was a little disappointed that they didn't have the taylor ham and french toast flavor. The other flavors are pretty good. My favorite were the burnt honey pistachio and honey lavender. There was a tart cherry and goat cheese flavor which was not that great. The goat cheese chunks were a bit too big. They also have gluten free options if anyone is curious.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious, but the pastries stand out. Easily the best in the immediate area. Not cheap, you are paying for quality.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
I will only comment on their market. They offered pastries, homemade ice cream, and fruits as well as other products available. The Taylor ham and French toast ice cream ($8 for a pint) was ordered. It was a tad expensive for a pint of ice cream. This was an unusual flavor and it had to be tried. The ice cream was creamy and the flavor was alright. It tasted like the cereal "French Toast Crunch" with diced pieces of Taylor ham. I had to keep eating it to determine if I liked it or not (still undetermined!!). Will I go back? I believe so.
google avatar

Ron D.

Yelp
Can't beat the view, the comfort and the taste. Went with the kids and they were entertained for hours watching the goats

K F.

Yelp
Been here a few times now for apple picking. A great spot to bring the family and enjoy the fall weather. Family owned and they run a smooth operation. Def. On the list for fall activities.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
The fresh baked artisan breads are crusty and hearty and delicious!! The ice cream flavors are unique, homemade goodness!! The fruits and veggies are fresh!! Apple picking season is fun!! The fresh apple cider donuts are a must try!!
google avatar

Tommy B.

Yelp
Homemade ice cream is the best in NJ, homemade breads are insanely good, coffee drinks are also great.

Jean J.

Yelp
The deep dish apple crumb pie is always delicious! It's a staple desert at all our holiday dinners!

Yelp
My first job as a kid was at an apple picking farm. I loved the job but our prices were definitely terrible. Coming to Windy Brow yesterday with my friend and her kids was a nice surprise. To do PYO, you just pay for whatever size bag you want and you can fill it to the brim. I paid $16 for the mid size bag and definitely got my moneys worth. The orchards were beautiful but I wish the signage was better. I couldn't find the apples I was looking for, but did find plenty of others. The apple pie is amazing. The warm cider doughnuts were the best I've ever had. Their homemade ice cream was life-changing. I loved their fall flavors and the fact that they had vegan options. The Honey Lavender and Pumpkin Pie ice cream was absolutely amazing.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
Such a cute market! The ground beef, ice cream, pastries and coffee were all excellent. I can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Devon R.

Yelp
Love it! The pastries are as good as Paris, the coffee is incredible and the ice cream is to die for.

Roman B.

Yelp
The best cider donuts just about anywhere.. made on premises! Fresh vegetables. Apple picking & incredible pies. Homemade ice cream. Lots more. The staff is wonderful. Fresh sourdough bread also made on premises that u have to cut. Wish they would get a bread cutting machine especially for the rye. That is my only bone to pick. Luv Windy Brow!
google avatar

Emma P.

Yelp
Always fresh food, interesting ice creams and kind employees. Have been going here for many years now. Made grilled cheese with their fresh garlic and herb bread. Amazing.

Kate R.

Yelp
Great apple picking, beautiful view, amazing donuts and the cutest shop. A go to whenever we can get there
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee, liking the americano and apparently the chai cold bree is very good too.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
Great local farm with an extensive bakery. So many items I still need to try. The ice cream is creamy and taste like quality ingredients are used. Highly recommend stopping in a summer day.

Stanley S.

Yelp
Stopped for ice cream when visiting my sister. We had been here previously for the inside shopping but never had the ice cream. There were some interesting flavors, though most are not outrageous (some are). The ice cream was premium and had a good consistency. There is a covered area with tables where you can sit and relax under an arbor. Inside you get hard-packed pints as well as fruit from their orchard, jellies, baked goods, etc. A nice old-timey atmosphere and roadside attraction.

Dennis S.

Yelp
The fresh fruit and vegetables are worth the drive while in season. I especially make the drive for their baked goods and homemade ice cream. Staff always pleasant and helpful. They do keep a low profile with very little advertising. They also have reduced winter hours for the coffee shop. In any case the quality of products is worth the visit but call first to insure they're open.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Love this place. Been here many years with my kids. Only problem is the poison ivy. Be very careful with young children here. There is poison ivy everywhere. No maintenance like weed whipping done around the trees. Bakery is wonderful. Hope they can address a few issues. But a great spot overall.
