"Hand-blended patties of certified choice chuck and smoked pork belly make a burger at Windy City feel special, and the freshly baked brioche buns are appropriately pillowy. Garlic parm fries are generously topped and though the space is tight— there might be three tables inside and two more on the sidewalk — the friendly, efficient service keeps locals coming back. The restaurant is tucked just behind Main Street on Coffee Street." - Stephanie Burnette

We loved our experience at Windy City Burgers! We ordered The Hudson and The Windy City and shared an order of salt and pepper fries. The staff were all super friendly and on top of things. The burgers are made to order and are delicious. They are very big, though! There aren’t many seats but turnover for tables is quite fast since the food comes out fast and there’s no need to linger. Def recommend!

Google
I recently did a branding shoot for Windy City and they let me take home the food that was prepared for the shoot. So between me and my roommates, we tried pretty much everything on the menu and I can confidently say that you truly can't go wrong. Everything is beyond delicious! I knew going into the shoot that they had a reputation of being the best in Greenville, and they did not disappoint.

Google
We drove to Greenville from Greenwood in search of good burgers and shopping. We hit the jackpot with Emerald City Burgers. It’s a unique burger joint, a fun atmosphere, and excellent service especially from the manager Sully (spelling?). He was energetic, friendly, and treated us like old friends. The burgers were delicious! I got the Northwood, my husband and son got the Hudson, and my daughter got a children’s cheese burger. The portions were generous. Keep up the great service, food, and atmosphere!

Google
Ok so we are visiting from NC looking at the area and couldn’t decide on what to eat. Stumbled across Windy City Burgers and their wonderful online reviews. Well the customers didn’t lie! This was prob the best burger I’ve had in my 59 years of life. The meat was juicy and tasty and a pleasant surprise was the homemade bun. I got the Hudson and my boyfriend got the one with jalapeño, which he sad was delicious as well! We shared the pork belly fried which were loaded with pork belly crisp to perfection. The staff were really nice and the owner was very personable. You MUST try them if you want a reasonably priced, delicious juicy burger!

Google
Huge burgers on fresh buns loaded with tantalizing flavors! Small cafe with very attentive staff making every customer feel important. Almost mistook the free chocolate square for a pat of butter! Perfect way to end the meal!

Google
Man, what a burger! If you know, you know, and if you don't, you better go find out. Fantastic choices on the menu, monthly burger special, fresh grou d beef, scratch made buns, fresh cut fries. Get there early cause on busy days they have been known to run out. 100% will be back, and soon!

Julin Likasiri

Google
We love it. The pork belly is definitely a must. If you are in the area and happened to be indecisive, don’t be. Pick this place. We stay 4 days 5 nights. We went to this place on the first day for lunch. The second day we picked another place and it was kinda fail me.. third day we came back.. the last day.. we had free lunch so we didn’t come… I still regret still today.. because today we are leaving but they are not opened for lunch.. The fries are okay.. but I would rather have two burgers instead of a burger and a fry.

Google
Me and my wife stopped by this spot last night while we were walking downtown. Best decision of the night. The burgers were absolutely amazing as well as the fries. The meat was so tasteful and juicy. My wife got a impossible burger, and I got the hudson burger. Customer service was A1 and everyone was very friendly. We'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
**I RARELY WRITE REVIEWS** but had to for this place 5 is too low of a rating 100/100 IT'S PHENOMENAL!!!! I've never had a burger this good! I left satisfied wanting more and I'll be back for sure.. If you haven't been here, don't walk RUN to them for lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed! Great ambiance A taste of Chicago here in Greenville, SC! Located downtown on Coffee St. Buns baked fresh, burgers ground fresh, all fresh ingredients and most made in house, like the pimento cheese on the Northwood Burger - Great, fast, Friendly Service (THANKS BRI, Hope I spelled that right) - Ordered The Damen and The Northwood and the Salt & Pepper Fries

Yelp
Excellent food. Amazing service and such a cute little place. At first glance the place is small and has a small menu but things that let me know the food is gonna be amazing. The sweet lady at the front was so kind and even gave us recommendations for other places to go around the area. The food was amazing. The garlic parm fries were literally to die for. The best things I have ever had and the burgers where amazing. The only thing I could say they could improve on would be making the burgers a little juicier but honestly there isn't much to improve upon. Make it your mission to visit this place if you're in town!!

Lori L.

Yelp
AMAZING!! SO impressed! Service was so friendly and they were genuine. This restaurant is SMALL but MIGHTY!! I got their burger of the month but with grilled chicken. So juicy and full of flavor. My friend and I split the fries. You can eat inside or out. Their ranch is also tasty! One great touch to this place is that they also give you complimentary chocolates as a little dessert. It's homemade as well as their buns! Highly recommend!

Bob T.

Yelp
Solid burgers from a tiny place. Great fries and shakes too. Staff is amazing and friendly.

Ish M.

Yelp
Food was great, the bun is amazing, pay attention to the signs, we had a lady try and steal our table but you can't just come in and sit down, you follow the line and they seat you with a # so don't be like Karen! Burger is cooked to order!

Dan H.

Yelp
Was in the mood for a good ol' burger and saw high ratings about this place. Windy City is a very small place with only 2 tables of 4 and 3-4 tables of 2 so I'm guessing they do a lot of take out. There is a fixed list of burger choices but they will customize any burger the way you want it. The fries were perfectly cooked and OMG so plentiful. The people are extraordinary and accommodating. I'm going to give it a high rating but the burger itself was not my favorite because it has a smokey flavor perhaps due to something they add to the chip meat. I'm more simple in that all I want on the hamburger meat is a little salt and pepper and don't add to the flavor in the mixture. But don't go by me, this place is overwhelmingly well rated by regulars.

Yelp
How have I never found this place before? I came here for lunch right at 11 AM. It is just opened but it got busy quick and there's a good reason why! To start the service was amazing super friendly staff. It was a lot of fun. Trying to decide what burger to get was the hardest part. I ended up choosing the Sawyer, it was a great choice! I ordered it pink/medium. It came out perfect pork belly on top was definite long with a great spicy Asian slaw. I got the garlic Parmesan fries on the side, it was a huge Porsche. Everything came out piping hot, and super delicious. Overall, this is an amazing burger place in downtown Greenville. I will be back very soon!

Monica W.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best burgers, fries and customer experience. The SO and I were in town for a wedding and used Yelp to locate good places to grab a bite. WCB had 4.9 stars. We were impressed. We arrived for the afternoon hours and were not disappointed. When we stepped into the restaurant we were immediately greeted and walked through their menu. I had a great bantering session! We ultimately ordered: SO: THE HUDSON and Garlic Parmesan Fries Me: THE MARSHFIELD and Buffalo Bleu Cheese Fries Although everything was good, our favs were THE HUDSON and Buffalo Bleu Cheese Fries. I also opted to test drive the Pina Colada Seltzer. I could drink this every day. Light and refreshing! And the made in-house buns...I would love to have them shipped to me. Would we return? Absolutely! And thank you to the staff who made our visit so much fun.

Yelp
Stopped by here around 12:30 on a Thursday, just to try a new place. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Maybe it's just that I'm a southern girl, and don't appreciate Windy City burgers, but I found the food to be overpriced for what was offered. I had to have my burger re-made, as they had ignored a food sensitivity. When the chef brought my replacement, he basically suggested it was my fault. Hubby didn't like his burger. This place was so crowded that people literally bumped into us as we sat eating at a table inside. They do have two or three tables outside. I guess it's mostly a to-go place. Do what we did. Try it; it may be what you're looking for.

Mark P.

Yelp
Off the hook! Best burgers in the upstate (imo). Incredible variations... plus the French fries have several variations. And any burger joint that has MALT VINEGAR for the fries knows whatup!! Cheers. Forgot to mention the impeccable service by the staff! All behind the counter are awesome

Ang F.

Yelp
Disclaimer: We only tried the classic Windy City burger. My thoughts are, if you can perfect the classic, anything else is sure to be good. A fantastic burger! Priding themself in grounding their own meat (this patty being beef and pork belly), you can tell that the intention is to provide customers with a patty you actually taste and bite into. Nice and thick, either made pink or no pink in the middle, it's juicy as its own without all the additional grease you may find elsewhere. While only small details, the lettuce was bright and crisp, the tomato bright and juicy, and the pickles and onions adding the right amount of crunch. The bun, itself, was unique. A little thick for my liking, but sturdy. Speaking of small details, we were pleasantly surprised to be treated with a sweet finish (homemade white chocolate bark bites). Thank you Brandt and staff! Looking forward to trying a new patty off the menu in the future. Note: they are closed between 2 & 4 throughout the week.

Yelp
My family and I have heard the hype and today we fully experienced everything we've heard! We all enjoyed our time together as we ate some of the best burgers and fries. My husband had the Hudson Burger and I had the Sawyer Burger. We split the Garlic Parmesan Fries. Our daughter enjoyed the chicken and fries too! The service was excellent and super family friendly! We loved the cozy spot and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

Ashley J.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and a nice little side eatery. I am a creature of habit when it comes to burgers but I am so happy I decided to try this spot.

Jody P.

Yelp
SMALL but MIGHTY!!! This tiny little spot in the heart of downtown Greenville is a special place with delicious food and a welcoming staff. You can't beat a burger with a fresh, homemade brioche bun and hand-ground beef patty!! Holy wow, the buns are heavenly. Our garlic and parmesan fries were fantastic and were enough to feed three people. This place is efficient, the food comes out fast and hot! The staff went above and beyond to make us feel like family. Celebrating my mom's birthday and she was offered a free cookie to celebrate the special day! Make sure you also check out the bathroom decor, it's hysterical, love the sense of humor!

Sonya M.

Yelp
This burger joint is absolutely amazing! I ordered the Ravenswood with Blue Cheese fries and my meal was delicious! This was the best burger i have ever put in my mouth. Very juicy and flavorful. The cream buffalo sauce and onion straws added lots of flavor. The place is quaint with about 7 tables so get there early for a seat. There's also a few tables outside. The staff is friendly and the service is great. If you are in Greenville, visit Windy City Burgers. You will be glad you did!

Malory R.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. It's small and packed in there but for good reason. The homemade buns are so good. I've been here a few times and have yet to have a bad burger. The staff is super friendly as well. You have to try it :)

Amy S.

Yelp
Windy City is in the downtown area of Greenville. Due to this, parking could be harder to find, but there are multiple parking garages nearby. It's located in a narrow space with indoor and outdoor seating but it's worth the wait for a table. The staff we encountered were both above and beyond helpful and friendly. As for the food, my husband said this was the best burger he's had in years. And for him, that says a lot! They grind the meat themselves, cut their own fries, and even make their own rolls. I like, though, that they even offer "impossible burgers" if you have a family member, like I do, that's a vegetarian. We were just driving through...found the place on Yelp...but if we ever come through Greenville again, we would absolutely come back!

Katie C.

Yelp
First of all, I am so picky about food and service and everything, so this says a lot Food was absolutely INCREDIBLE, service was fast, all of the employees were amazing, and the atmosphere was casual, "hole in the wall" place with next level food. Definitely a new favorite!

Jeff S.

Yelp
Well, when all you make are burgers and fries you better do them right and Windy City Burgers does just that. The first thing I look for is if they can get the temperature right - I can't tell how many times I ask for medium or pink and get well done, so often that I will order my burger rare just to get a light pink. Well, I was impressed that I did not have to do they here - and my burger was cooked perfect. The flavor & texture was spot on. The fries were also perfect. And to add to this was the very polite and helpful staff - can't really ask for more if you want a great burger.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Burgers are excellent and extremely filling. I got the Pulaski, which was a special that day. I got fries too and barely touched them because the burger was huge! Fries were great and I always enjoy w a good burger; just couldn't have more than a few because I was stuffed to the gills. Excellent flavor. And cooked to perfection!

Neal F.

Yelp
This is not a place to bring your date for a romantic meal. This is not a place to relax for hours on end. Windy City Burgers is none of that. However, the small, crowded little venue in Greenville SC is where you can get possibly the best burger you've ever had. As one who has eaten his share of burgers over many years-always in search of the best-Windy City easily makes the top 5. And that's saying something! And I don't say it lightly. The patties are big and they're fresh. They bake their own buns. And the fries are fresh cut. As I sat there demolishing the massive burger and fries that can only be described as a voluminous basket of ecstasy, I marveled at how the team was able to prep all that food. They must get after it pretty early in the morning. Here's a tip: I got there a few minutes before noon. You should too. No sooner had a chosen my seat than the place absolutely exploded into a frenzy of diners, orders and noise. Lots of noise. Small place + Activity = Noise. No way around it. Not obnoxious noise; happy, I'm-getting-a-great -burger noise. I found the staff to be very accommodating, extremely friendly and part of a service culture most restauranteurs would envy. The esprit de corps was very apparent. Bottom Line: This place is fantastic. Next time I'm in Greenville, you'll find me there.

Briana T.

Yelp
A small restaurant with big flavors tucked away in downtown Greenville- some of the best burgers in town! Windy City Burgers is a great spot for lunch or dinner for some of the best burgers around. It's a pretty small place with about 15-16 seats inside and 2 tables outside, but it moves pretty quickly, or you could grab to go. The service was great and the burgers came out perfectly cooked. They ask you if you want your burger cooked with pink or no pink, and they did a great job with ours. I ordered the Hudson burger and my husband ordered the Damen, and we split an order of garlic parmesan fries (which was plenty to share). The Hudson burger was excellent and a little different for the BBQ sauce, fried onions, and bacon. The Damen burger did have a little bit of a kick, but was also outstanding. The fries weren't lacking garlic or parmesan either, and were super fresh and delicious. The homemade buns are also worth mentioning too, as they were so flavorful and fluffy. We absolutely cleaned our plates. Honestly we thought the actual burger patty and fries were so good that you may not need all the extras to enjoy your meal- we may try just the regular burger and fries next time. All the accoutrements were excellent but the burger was amazing. We will definitely be back for more!

Pat M.

Yelp
Top notch burger spot. Big city style diner feel with limited seating. Don't recommend coming with large parties but the food is worth it if you have to. Quick and easy ordering process at the counter - food brought out within 10 minutes. Cooks are actively working in sight - neat vibe. Juiciest, tastiest burger I've found in Greenville. Hole in the wall and I wish it could stay that way. Will be bringing guests here when they visit!

Robert L.

Yelp
Excellent burger and fries are bomb! Only complaint is location is small and when it's cold outside, it was cold inside. Staff was also positive and polite so if you love burgers then this is da place

Nick B.

Yelp
Simply the best burger & fries in Greenville. Sully and his staff create a one of a kind atmosphere!

Steve E.

Yelp
Keep seeing this come up on the Greenville Foodie FB page. Arrived at 11:10 and tables were plentiful (if you think 13 seats is plentiful). Looked at the menu on line which is smart. Lots of options to think through. My wife had the bleu cheese buffalo burger. I had the pork belly, Asian slaw burger. We ordered the fries with drizzle and pork belly. From the first bite we both knew these were the best ever. Over 70, I've had my share of burgers. Cut in half you can just get your hands around them to take a bite. The burger was just right in size and allowed the other ingredients to have a presence. It took a fork to eat the fries and pork belly. They were awesome as well. Staff was very personable. Seating area small, rustic and very clean. So much food that we brought dinner home. A bit pricy for a retiree lunch, but the amount of food was worth it. We will certainly be back.

Christine T.

Yelp
Burgers are cooked to perfection and there's varieties of add on meat ( bacon , pork belly etc ) but personally it masks the awesomeness of the beef burger itself. The fries are also amazing.

Mike L.

Yelp
I liked it OK. My wife said she wanted her burger cooked well done and specified no pink. Didn't happen and was brought to attention of order taker and person said I guarantee if you try it you'll like it. My wife was not happy so we won't return. I could also do without the bacon mixed in the burger.

Garett M.

Yelp
My 3rd or 4th time here and I am shocked there isn't a line out the door right when they open. Hands down one of the best burgers around if not the best. Staff is always super friendly.

Judy B.

Yelp
What a tasty find for burgers! Just off of Main Street, lots of choices for burgers as you can mix ingredients whichever way you want. I opted for the impossible burger with pickles, lettuce, onion and tapenade on one of their home baked buns. Delicious! We also ordered fries; hot and fresh. Accompanied by a beer it was just perfect. Definitely a come back to place!

Josh M.

Yelp
Incredible food and service. Really enjoyed my burger and fries! Split the fries with a couple-worker and we still couldn't finish them all. The ambiance is incredible, though the place is small and seating limited.

Cari P.

Yelp
This was hands down one of the best burgers I've had. This place is a small hole in the wall but you will be so glad you popped in. The buns are homemade, the meat is ground in house, the fries are hand cut and perfectly salted and peppered (not greasy) . They have a nice selection of beers brewed by The Wicked Weed Brewing Co. I got the Pernicious Haze and it was great. Give this place a try and I'll bet you'll be back.

B B.

Yelp
fries were fantastic, burgers not so much. Extremely salty, we have the blue cheese burger and the Asian variety, both were just OK, we will not return unless wea re downtown and wanted fries. Extremely small but it seems to work, the gal at the front was super nice, the owner was a great guy If you want an experience, go, if you want the best burgers in town, this is not the place.

George R.

Yelp
Hamburger was average in my opinion. Ordered medium rare but got well done. I doubt I would give it another try.

Melanie U.

Yelp
Service was spectacular you can really see how happy they are to serve the GVL area. Their burgers & buns both homemade steps it up from the normal burger joint they also have some pretty delicious combinations. I will definitely be back to try some more, they are a smaller restaurant so for big groups i would order to go.

Eric H.

Yelp
This was (for real) one of the best burgers I've ever had. The meat itself was delicious, and then add in an amazing blend of flavors on top and you cant put it down once you take the first bite. Homemade buns add so much goodness. The staff and owner are gems. I asked what the cashier recommended and she basically read me the whole menu which is fine. I chose the Hudson burger and don't regret a thing. The most important thing I want to say though is that the fries are incredible. Sea salt and pepper with a perfect crunch. The restaurant is small but it's a great place to talk and it's clean. The owner talks with everybody-a super nice guy. They even throw in a little sample of a sweet treat with the meals-I think mine was white chocolate fudge. I am in Greenville a couple times a year and will be back. All the stars from me.

B D.

Yelp
Burger: EXCELLENT, pork belly/ beef blended hand patty! Bun: homemade and DELICIOUS. Staff: WoW!!! Hilarious time with my bald headed brother from another mother who welcomed me the minute I walked in. A co-owner behind the grill made my awesome burger and his beautiful server was so sweet in helping me make the burger choice that made my belly happy:) I'm proud to say this was some of the best, welcoming service I've ever experienced at ANY price point... and I'm a serious foodie. Love you guys... From the guy with the shaved head and Page's Okra Grill tattoo... THANK YOU!

Marylisa R.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall, definitely worth the visit. Not your old fashion burgers, but more so well crafted tasty gourmet burgers and fries! Skip your diet, take a plunge! You will definitely not forget it! What also make this place a gem, is the personnel, very friendly... not fake friendly, but genuine good people serving up some amazing food. Well done!

S Z.

Yelp
Windy City burger with bacon was spectacular! Garlics parm fries as side with a traditional coke! The staff is top notch.

Daniel L.

Yelp
They trying to camouflage a Michelin star restaurant as a burger joint. I went to the MoMA and they had a Windy City burger on display beside Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. I heard Horacio Pagani eats Windy City burgers before designing Zondas. Chicago is so proud of you. I don't know Chicago personally, but I imagine it's proud of you.

Daisy O.

Yelp
Absolutely the best burger and the nicest staff you can find. Oh and don't forget the garlic parmesan fries! Super small space that they make work beautifully with staff moving things along.

Steve G.

Yelp
Went there for lunch today. It is a perfect hole in the wall restaurant with outstanding food. Place was packed but tables turn over fast. From the ordering process to staff coming out to talk to us they do everything right. Honestly it is one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. House ground burgers and fresh cut fries done to perfection. We will make this our regular stop when in Greenville. With all the overpriced burgers out there these are worth every penny

Tina C.

Yelp
Fabulous! If you like plump juicy made to order burgers w original creations on homemade bun then this is for you! Full of locals and tourists as well who have found their happy place, cozy up & enjoy!

C T.

Yelp
As a good American, I've eaten burgers for 50 years. The Hudson was hands down the best burger I've ever had. My husband said the Irving was amazing. We shared the garlic fries, which were amazing, too. We didn't stop to take a photo! The staff was outstanding. In this day in age, customer service stands out. What a fun surprise to get 15% off the bill for lunch take-out. What a great idea for this cozy restaurant. We'll be back--and bringing others with us.

Moyanda K.

Yelp
This is a burger spot that would make wimpy drool! Top notch flavor & presentation, if ya haven't had one of these burgers mayne rush on down & try 2!! service makes you feel right at home.

Joel D.

Yelp
Love this place. Had burgers here last week and they might be the best in the city. Only problem was they ran out of buns or something like that, but damn good, and the owner ( i think he was the owner) was very cool.

Lisa B.

Yelp
This was truly such a fun find! We were in Greenville for a performance at the Peace Center, and just happened to find this on a little side street. One of the very best hamburgers I have had in such a long time. It's a very small restaurant with outdoor seating. All of the buns are homemade each day. Juicest Burger & crispiest french fries I've ever had. They even had gluten-free buns for my friend who was with me. 100% recommend this little jewel and we will be back soon.

Josh A.

Yelp
Our favorite lunch spot! Burgers are to die for, fries are deep gold and crunchy, and the options are phenomenal. GF available too!

Peter G.

Yelp
BEST burgers in GVL! The gourmet burgers are the best I've ever had. The staff is always so friendly. I love the "hole-in-the-wall" authentic atmosphere on Coffee Street (it's in the old Vic's pizza place). It's does not have that "packaged" atmosphere of the trendy restaurants which is a compliment! The restaurants that try too hard to be trendy always want to make me gag. ALL the burgers are delicious and I highly recommend the Parmesan fries!
