I've been coming to this place for years. The food is decent. However, after placing a $100 Uber Order They completely failed. My order had several missing items. The instructions were not followed. The person I spoke to on the phone with. My complaint refused to give me his name. I demanded to speak to the manager. He told me the manager's name was the boss. I was later told his name was Steve. Steve actually contacted me to say that he was sorry. And that I should call Uber and get a refund. I told Steve. This does not help me when I have a house of hungry children. Big inconvenience, big price, poor service and mediocre food prep. This place has completely lost my business.

I used to eat here in the early 90's when I lived around the corner. Good to see they are still in business. The staff is different but it still seems the same...oh yeah, inflation. Anyway, the spontaneous meal really hit the spot yesterday. Thanks.

My only regret is that I didn’t start coming here earlier. I’ve been living in Lakeview for about six months now and I’ve walked past Windy City Gyro countless times. Finally tried it last night and it was amazing! So good that I’m back here for lunch 18 hours later! I’ve tried both the gyro plate and the chicken pita special and they’ve both been so good! No fatty meat, perfectly seasoned, juicy, and massive portions. Even the veggies like the tomatoes, onions, and lettuce are great. You’re not gonna find flavorless tomatoes here or wilted lettuce. You can tell they freshly prep everything each day. The meals come with fries and soup or salad. The veggie soup I had today was clearly homemade and was so flavorful. The staff and owner are really kind and welcoming to customers. Everybody is “hey buddy” here and I love that. The staff also seem to be genuinely happy and the owner is working the grills with them which really impresses me. I can tell he cares about his people and treats them right. Prices are super reasonable for the massive portions. Literally my only complaint is that they have Pepsi instead of Coke. Definitely gonna be a regular here going forward! Don’t sleep on this place like I did. It doesn’t look impressive from the outside, but you know what they say about judging a book by its cover.

This place was soo good years ago. The food is not worth the money any money. Sad. We used go here all the time and ordered fir delivery to. Today was the last time. Most of the food went to the garbage. So dissapointing. Lost another customer. NEVER again.

An affordable gyro spot with quick service. The meat is well seasoned and the fries are fresh, bonus points for being pretty generous with the portions. The staff is curt but they are getting your food out quickly, so honestly I don't see the problem with it. Plenty of seating if you want to eat in and the place is well kept. It's in a strip mall so there a several actual parking spaces if needed.

I'm not sure what happened on the day that I went. Recently, I stopped in here to have a chicken taco and some fries. Now, I've frequented this place in the past and have never really had any issues, but for some reason, my visit this past week was the complete opposite! Lol The chicken taco I had was absolutely disappointing. It tasted like I was eating Styrofoam inside of a corn tortilla shell. The chicken was super dry and had literally no flavor. All of the shredded lettuce on top made it worse and the cheese that they put on it did nothing to help. I even tried putting some of the green sauce on it to see if that would help; it did nothing. I was so disappointed because it felt like I was eating the stuffing to a teddy bear. I meant to take a picture of the taco, but I tossed it so fast I forgot. I won't let this be the last time that I go though Lol so we will see what happens the next time

Very fast and affordable counter service restaurant! Tons of seating and old school vibe! They're open pretty late if you're been out having some drinks and want to end the night with a quick meal. As far as affordable and quality burgers this is one of my favorites in the area. For the price, quality, and quantity of food you get you cant beat it. Especially considering how quickly you get your food. Could not recommend here enough, and we will definitely be coming here many more times in the future!

Coming in there, I had not had gyros in a long time and was desperate for one. The guys in the back understood the assignment, super cool chill dudes and quick with it. Me and my friend dogged that after a night of drinking. That combination of gyro meat and fries hit the spot, they know what they're doing being open so late. Thank you all so much, would definitely come back.

Stopped by for a late night dinner at Windy City Gyros and I enjoyed their gyro! So flavorful and fresh. My boyfriend got the rib eye steak sandwich which was also decent! The food is reasonably priced and the tables were cleaned frequently.

Perfect for a late night bite after the bars, but probably wouldn't take visitors there for a meal or anything. Serves its purpose and sometimes that's all you need!

I have been going here a few times a week after work, but I stopped. The older guy behind the counter is too rude. He over charged me in my debt card twice, and I caught it right away. Also the cooks never ever wear gloves when handling food. And why dont they ever have red onions for their salads, like most places. The only reason why this place is still in business. is because of the gay community, and the prices went up alot. There are too many other places to go too, with better service, and better sanitary from the workers.

I've been going to Windy City gyros for years when they was just a little hole in the wall on the corner of Sheridan and Dakin but now they remodeled, and the food is still delicious even after 30 years. Plus the customer service is great.

Best gyro I've had in years. It's set up like a diner. The service was fast and the guys behind the counter were very friendly. I love that it's open late. Only con is the cheese fries. I personally felt like the cheese was a very watery nacho cheese sauce and fried unseasoned. I hear that they have great fish & chips as well.

At this price point, this place is my favorite. For a late night snack, my favorite. For a chocolate dipped cone, my favorite. The place is clean, fast, and straightforward. The nuggets are good. The burger is tasty. The chicken gyro is recommended. It's all good and a great price. 5 stars for this price point. Pro-tip: these guys work hard and quick. Stop by the gas station and pick up a bag of candy for them as they don't take tips. They will be so excited.

I had to hop on and leave a note about Windy City Gyros. I've moved around a lot and it's hard to find good staples, but I've found mine here. I've tried quite a few gyros around Chicago and I keep coming back here for the chicken pita and gyro sandwich.

The food was mediocre at best. The gyro plate deluxe tasted alright but wasn't the best I ever had. Plus for it to be deluxe you really didn't get that much more than just with the regular gyro plate. It said extra meat but it looked the same as the gyro plate Not worth getting the deluxe at all. The gyro sauce wasn't good at all. The fries weren't good at all. They needed more salt and were cold and bland. The taco was delicious and definitely worth buying. The pizza puff tasted like the grocery store puff you could make at home. My spouse had the burger he said it was good but nothing special about it. Tasted like any other burger.

My grandmother called about missing food items after our food was delivered, and the owner hung up on her in the middle of her sentence. This review should speak for itself.

Windy City Gyro's is your typical neighborhood fast food spot. I'm not above the occasional fix of frozen processed foods. .. This place has a varied menu boasting gyros, burgers, pizza puffs, mozzarella sticks, etc. I appreciate the late hours and quick delivery. Definitely not worth driving more than 10 minutes, but if you're in the immediate area. ..and everything else is closed. This will get the job done. 2.65 stars

I had late night drunchies and was looking for something to hit the spot. I think it was around 1 or 2 am after Pride Fest and it wasn't a far walk from where I was. My biggest complaint and the reason I took a star off is because they wouldn't let anyone just walk in and order. They insisted the only way it to order on an app for pick up like Uber Eats or something. I found that to be a little inconvenient because you're basically giving Uber your money, and you couldn't sit inside and eat. I understand they may get a lot of drunk people walking in late, so I kind of understand, but it just seems like they'll lose out on a lot of money and customers. The amount of people who tried walking in, in front of me to find the door locked would just walk away in disgust and end up at the Mexican place across the street. Anyways, on to my gyro. This gyro was FIRE. I'm so happy I ordered it. I scarfed that thing down outside super quickly. I did not really like the wings I order. They were dry as hell, lol. But the GYRO, mmmmmm. I will 100% come back just for that. I'm dreaming about it still.

Last night after working a long busy shift, I had the taste for some good food from Windy City Gyros located at 3932 N Broadway. Now hear me out on this one - long post, but worth the read. The food at this place is fantastic & the employees have always been decent from what I've experienced so that's why I make the drive to go support them and their establishment. But, last night... Ohhhhh, last night! They pissed me off big time. I walk into the restaurant and hold the door for an older White gentlemen whose walking slow with a limp, several papers in his hand, smiling but you can easily tell he was a bit down or even sad. He gets up to the counter to order and they ask him what he wants. So kindly, nervously, and soft-speaking, he states, "I left city hall today and got all these papers. I owned two properties down the street and I lost them. I couldn't afford to pay the PIN's on both of them; I don't have a job." Two additional workers move in with the two listening to him - they stare at him like he's crazy. I'm looking at him and listening to see where this is going. "What do you want!?," one screams at the elderly man. He replies back in the most casual voice, "Sir, I'm just hungry. I would really love some food - anything. I've never been in this position." Another workers screams, "I don't know man, I'll get the owner. The owners here!" We wait for a good 20 seconds and the unidentified owner aggressively walks out, leans over the counter and screams, "What do you want!?" The man, once again says, "Sir, I lost my properties and the city gave me these papers today showing me why. They were my condos - - -" The owner abruptly cuts him off. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I want condos myself so if I give you my food for free, I can't get those condos!" The owner looks at the other workers as they smile at him as if he's something to look up too. He continues his rant in the most obnoxious fashion by screaming, "If you want food, you pay like everyone else" and he points to me intending for me to agree. The elderly male was so hurt, turned around after saying "thank..." and began limping out without any further incident. I yelled, "Hey, Sir - Sir... What do you want to eat?" The elderly man turned around and began to talk but I couldn't hear because the owner now yells at me saying, "You can't buy or get food for him, only you!" I went off and told him he couldn't tell me what to do with my money. He than screamed, "I'm the owner. No service to you neither. Next!" Let me tell y'all something. It took a whole lot out of me to turn away from that counter but I did. I grabbed hold of the elderly man and walked him across the street to a Mexican restaurant. His eyes were filled with tears after I allowed him to order his taco dinner with everything except HOT SALSA. The employees at this restaurant knew what was up and even threw in a Coke for him because he said he loved Coke. He sat down and patiently waited for his food. The best feeling in the world was me bringing him HIS food because he could barely stand up. I told him that we all go through shit and some people are held so high up on their thrones where they've forgotten how to treat people. Now, I'm not saying that an establishment should give free food to anyone. But, what I'm saying is, don't treat people like crap - don't degrade and belittle them - & damn sure do not bring me and others into it as if we are going to take your side EVEN THOUGH most people do because they don't want to stand out and do what's right. Nope. That ain't me. I will always stand out and be THAT FUCKIN' GUY at least trying to do what's right. Ladies and Gents, I'm not from this particular area within the city but it would do me and so many others who are mistreated by this establishment some justice if you could share this to the neighborhood groups out that way and request that people go elsewhere with their business. Windy City Gyros located at 3932 N Broadway deserves no business. They need a reality check, especially the owner. Now, as it pertains to the Taco Burrito House directly across the street - show them some love and give them some great business. They were so kind to this man and everyone who walked in. If you want a late night spot with great food, cheap prices and fast food this is the place. The Greek guy that owns the place doesn't like everybody but once you get on his good side you're in. There's some interesting people after midnight but the perfect drunk spot. Their milkshakes are delicious. But the go to meal is the gyro with French fries, you can't go wrong. It is a neighborhood staple.

Great late night spot! I only tried the Gyro sandwich, and I loved it! Perfectly seasoned meat (a looooot of meat), warm pita bread, tzatziki... The people behind the counter seemed very busy at the time I came in, but the food arrived pretty quick.

I ordered a food delivery on June 1. It did not include any ice cream which I paid for and ordered. When I noticed it, the delivery guy never knocked on my door, just dropped off the food. I called him and he never answered. Then I called the restaurant and the man who answered said he understood and the next time I ordered, I should call to have them add the ice cream. Well tonight, I called the store and wanted to place another GrubHub order. I explained what happened. The manager said, I should have called or contacted GrubHub, it wasn't their problem. It's only about 6.25 but being told I had no proof, and asked how they could be responsible when the manager said he has no control over others and what they say! Great customer service. So they've lost me!

Ordered a gyro plate for late night through Yelp fulfilled by Grub Hub. Gave them my name and they claimed they never got my order. They charged me 30 dollars in addition to the money I paid in person. Beware ordering online. Workers are either too illiterate to understand the ordering system or they just like to scam people out of money late night taking advantage of people. Shady business.

You seriously get what you pay for when coming to Windy City Gyros. Windy City Gyros is that one neighborhood restaurant that you visit when calories don't matter but you are looking for delicious cheap-ish food. The place is very straightforward, they have a few tables that could easily accommodate parties of four. The place is always semi-clean, not really dirty but you wouldn't want to have your bare legs touch the chairs. The staff are nice but don't waster their time if you don't know what you want. Anytime I have come in person or called in an order they have always been courteous. Everyone behind the counter are always really busy so you have to know what you want and how you want it when you get to the cash register. My favorite meal is the double cheese burger with or without fries, a drink, and soup/salad. The soup is surprisingly good, it changes from time to time so check the monitor near the register if you are curious. My second favorite dish is the rib tip meal. The rib tips can sometimes be hit or miss but when they are fresh they are so delicious. I have had the chance to try a few more of the dishes but those are the top two. I would recommend calling in your order if you don't plan on dining in because they make the food quickly, within 15 mins, and it is always ready when I arrive. The food can add up especially if you make everything a meal, I get around the price by sharing fries with my husband and doing without the soda.

This is my family's favorite place to eat in Chicago! It was only a few blocks away from me and had a great menu. My dad loves gyros and my mom loves a good Chicago hot dog, and I love a charbroiled hamburger. They do it all! We are always happy with our meal and the people working there are very kind and accommodating. I also highly recommend their side salad, the dressing is to die for!

I am so disappointed Windy City has the bestest, juiciest, meat stuff gyros this side of Chicago. They have been a staple for me since I moved to Uptown. Recently I got a job in Boystown that goes late and I was excited Windy City would be in my path to get there: call at the end of my shift and walk the 15 minutes it takes to make a Gyro. But they've stopped using their phone services. To get a late night gyro, I now have to order through DoorDash or GrubHub or one of these other online services that bumps up the prices of the food. Instead of getting a full meal for less than $8, it's $11+ for a sandwhich. I used to love the amount of food I would get for the price but now it just doesn't seem worth it. I'd rather just tip the guys who are making my food rather than give an extra four dollars to a corporation I'll never meet face-to-face. I don't understand why you would make a kitchen staff work late when you are significantly reducing the amount of business you can do by not taking orders over the phone or even in person. Maybe it's because they got too many drunkies, which would be sad that we all have to suffer because of the actions of a few people. I'm just walking home tired and hungry and sad that I have to find a new late night treat.

This place is terrible. Horrible service, dirty, the food is not worth it and parking is even worse. Find anyplace else.

Highly recommend the place. Old school feel and very good food for the price. I am a big fan of the bacon cheeseburger and their soups are good as well. Haven't had a bad meal or a bad experience there in the last 6 years. Not sure why some people complain about service. You're getting fast food that is pretty good quality for a low price. Do you want them to give you a back rub as well? Every other time I am there someone is asking for something from the staff and they seem to deal with a lot of odd people. Just because things are not always the 100% perfect, that is not an indictment on the people or the place. And just because you ask for something for free, it does not mean you deserve it or will get it.

Slight update from my last review. While the food is fine for late night, the cooks and line guys are a complete disaster. They cannot match up orders, blame the customer for receiving the wrong order and then try to fight you when you tell them you have the wrong order. Literally ordered mozzarella sticks and was given a bag of shrimp, fries and something else. Really, it's only one guy with an eye brow piercing that is clueless.

Hands down great food. That's all you really need to see. This place has done me right for the handful of times I walked in either sober as a gopher or coming back from a bar crawl. Only weird experience I had here was when they didn't add feta to my chicken pita order by mistake and when we had to buy it after asking. They proceeded to give us a 5 inch x 5 inch square block of feta we had to cut up ourselves. This place is something special.

Came in on a Sunday and ordered the chicken gyro. It was tasty. It came with salad or soup and fries and a drink. $14 and all that food. Gyro was good. Salad, eh, fries same. It's fast food so don't expect any atmosphere. Cheap, clean and fast!

I know, I know the place is Windy City Gyros, but I love a good hot dog. So, I've been challenging myself to find some of the best hot dogs in Chicago. At least the place I can get too. We all know what a Chicago Style hot dog is a natural casing, neon green relish, celery salt, yada, yada, yada. I can be a hot dog snob. But I realize that I cant be a stickler, or I will never be happy. As I smelled the waif of delicious gyros all around me, at least in my mind it was delicious, I ordered the hot dog, fries, and a soda. The fries were salted perfectly, the soda was bubbly and the hot dog was meh. The bun enveloped the dog. More bun than hot dog and toppings. This dog didn't have a natural casing, no sport peppers, celery salt, and no poppyseed bun, which means this dog needed to step up its game. It didn't. Some of my friends say that they use natural casings if so it's a shame because I couldn't tell. I guess I should have ordered the gyro. I would go back to try the gyro but I would pass on the dog.

Good quick service, great pricing for the a variety of food and great serving sizes. I recommend takeout, thought the ambiance inside is fine to meet someone for dinner to have a conversation easily. Easily walkable.
