Windy City Pizza

One of the best pizzas I've had in years. Ordered the small heart attack and was pleasantly surprised. Enough for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. Ordered delivery so can't say much about the establishment.

Being from Chicago, I never expected it to be good. This was actually close and tasted good. Hot, cooked well out of the oven. A good amount of crispy crust, cheese and even about the right amount of sausage. Was impressed by the pizza and taste. 2 things disappointing. 1. The dining room closes at 8pm. So plan ahead. Even tried to order a pizza early and eat It there, would have been too late. 2. The next day was not as good as the day picked up. For me that is always a test, cold or heated Up how is it the next day.

The deep dish was truly awful. I dont know how they get away calling it a deep dish. If you've had a true Chicago deep dish then you'll likely leave here disappointed. The dough was so bland and lacked flavor. The beef topping was spicy and not at all like any beef topping I've had anywhere else. The service was fine. The atmosphere was lacking. It's so quiet and boring. They had scooby doo on tv until Netflix asked "are you still watching" and no one was around to select "yes" so then we sat in absolute silence. It was a weird vibe and the deep dish was awful. We will never return.m to this restaurant.

We came here to try the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Let me tell you, it was super good! It's definitely worth the wait. The pizza takes about 45 minutes, but it is well worth it. It might be a little on the pricey side for pizza, but it is really good. I definitely recommend trying this pizza for sure. The place was not so busy either. Actually, we were the only ones who were in there for a while. Very clean place as well. They also have little games to do as well. The decor is pretty cool as well. Would definitely come back again!

Ordered the deep dish. They didn't cut it. I called to ask why and they said they stopped cutting the deep dish pizzas. You have to request it. Never heard of a pizza place not cutting pizzas. And the last time I picked up, both people up front walked to the back once I walked in, then came back out a minute later, with barely a greeting. So, if you decide to order from here, make sure they cook it and put it in a box.

While the pizza itself tastes good and we love the amount of cheese, when I place an order online it's usually wrong. Tonight's order of a deep dish pizza was just to add pepperonis (which was a slight upcharge). There were none so we paid for the topping we didn't get. Last time, our order took a long time to receive for delivery because of no delivery drivers. I'd ordered hours in advance to plan ahead for dinner. I order ahead because of how long it takes to make the orders. Had I known, I would have just gotten food elsewhere. Unfortunately, I am done with giving them opportunities to keep missing the mark.

Windy City is our “go to” pizza place! Their thin crust, square cut pizza reminds us of the unique St. Louis-style. And their deep dish Chicago-style is well worth the wait! On top of the delicious food is the always friendly service—no matter if we dine in, get carry out or have it delivered.

I've been to Chicago a few times and after the first visit I fell in love with deep dish. The staff were extremely polite and knowledgeable. I called my order in for pick up. When I arrived they were welcoming and my order was ready. We ordered the Heart Attack and substituted beef with bacon. They do not skimp on the meats and cheese and my family enjoyed it very much. I know we'll be returning in the future. Please thank the staff and cooks for my first dinner of 2024 an enjoyable experience.

Got meatball sub and antipasto salad delivered to the KOA campground. They brought it to the pool. Food was amazing! They know what they're doing. You can taste the love! Liked it so much we ordered again the next day to the pool again. Still amazing. Good job y'all!

Fast hot food, great crispy fries. Great staff. They were ready right at opening, and were not crowded yet. The Italian beef was hot and tender and freshly made, with a side of juice to pour all over the sandwich "wet"-style. It's comes with softly cooked sweet peppers, and you can get traditional hot giardiniera, too. I would prefer that the beef was cooked in a more flavorful marinade, but it might be better after it's simmered a bit longer, rather than first thing when they open. The roll is pillowy soft, but I would like the roll more if it was chewier like a crusty Italian bread. Hey, every Chicagoan has their opinion on the best Italian Beef :-) It's a nice large place with lots of seating, around 50 on the pool-table side and at least 25 more on the other side. They have a pool table, some arcade games, and loads of Chicago memorabilia. Plenty of parking right out front.

Virginia Beach location. I am a born and raised Chicagoan from the south side. I love going back to Chicago to have a Chicago style hot beef sandwich. I will tell you now you won't get an authentic Chicago style beef sandwich here. It's does not compare. Chicago style beef is paper thin swimming is au jus. At the Windy City it was no different than any other beef sandwich I've had locally. Others with me had a deep dish pizza and their comment was " it was just Ok, nothing spectacular ". I have not been back but others who have been there tell me the sandwich is still non-Chicagoan.

Very pleasantly surprised! Easily the best pizza I've tried in Virginia Beach. Tried a plain cheese and pepperoni thin crust. Both delicious with a cracker crust. Can't speak to service or ambiance since I have only tried carry out. I'm very impressed so far and will update the review as I get into that deep dish!

I ordered the family size Greek salad and instead was given a box with mixed greens and a separate box containing shredded Cheddar cheese, a sliced tomatoes and a bunch of croutons. It was just a salad and for the price I would have rather gone to Bay Local for a really satisfying meal

First time i came here and was not disappointed. I ordered a personal pan pizza for me and my son to share. On the scale of 1 to 10 he gave it an 8. I thought it was lretty well mad my self for a thin crust pizza. Another thing my son enjoyed was the cheesiness and the cheese pullabilitiy. As he says "Satifying". Regarding the the serve it was great. Was greeted by a feienly face and answered all my questions expertly. Definitely looksike a great place to hangout have some pizza have a few drinks and watch the game or chill. Would definitely make my way back to try some of there other selctions Great job windy city

This place does deep dish pizza well! That is the only dish ordered this time but want to come back to try the thin crust and other items! Ordered over the phone for pick-up and the woman taking my order was extremely nice and answered a few questions I had. She let me know it would be 45 minutes. It was ready on time and she was just as nice in person as on the phone. Ordered the heart attack deep dish sans ham and it turned out great. good sauce and just the right amount of cheese and toppings. Definitely recommend for a great deep dish!

There pizza is truly authentic Chicago style pizza. The crust is great. Ack for the garlic butter crust . When I go home to Chicago, I will usually bring pizza back to place in my freezer. I no longer do that. Their pizza is Michelin IV level

One of my favorite pizza places in Virginia Beach. Their deep dish is so flavorful and their crust is delicious. The staff is always very friendly and kind. The deep dish does take a while and they're a bit pricey but they are heavy slices that pack a bunch of flavor. Would strongly recommend giving this place a try!

I went with their Famous Chicago style cheese and sauce. Sauce was great, crust was perfect, but the toppings were undercooked. The sauce was on top off the cheese which I did like, traditionally. Other than the cheese could've been more melted it was good. Called this order in 45 minutes early as suggested. Staff was friendly, and establishment was clean a little bit of Chicago exist in the environment. I will definitely try the hand tossed crust next time

Easily the best pizza in Virginia Beach, the sauce is amazing, and the chicken bacon ranch pizza is a family favorite. Staff is extremely friendly, and service is always excellent!

For the first and last time, I ordered from here excited to try their deep dish pizza which they have a disclaimer that it takes 45 minutes to make. No biggie. I don't mind waiting and appreciated the heads up. The deep dish pizza with pepperoni cost $27!!! There are no size choices on their website so I assumed that for 27 freaking dollars, I'd be getting a large deep dish pizza! It tasted just ok to me but it was very filling. My husband liked it though. The pizza puff was $4.95, very small and tasted like a hot pocket or maybe like Tostino pizza rolls ewww and it didn't even come with sauce to dip it in. For a $41 dinner I'm pretty disappointed.

I am sadden to even write this updated review because this has been a go-to spot for my family for the last few summers. But I think it's time to hang up the hat in this place. - Appetizers: The best thing about the corn fritters were the sauce. Chicken wings were the worst wings I've ever had. They were big and juicy but soggy and not crispy. Also barely sauced. And the bread sticks were also a joke! Honestly just skip the appetizers and get a pizza. - Kids menu: I was very happy to see that they even had a kids menu because that isn't super common. We've ordered from the kids menu twice -- pizza once and then mozzarella sticks and spaghetti the next time-- and both times we're underwhelmed. The pizza was flimsy, hard to pick up and eat, and really messily made. The spaghetti was just OK-- it was wayyyy too much pasta and it enough sauce. And the sauce itself was bland. - Deep dish pizza: Thud was always the star of our trip and sadly it just wasn't as good as I remembered. The dough was good but uneven at times. It was nice and cheesy but also really wet from the sauce, which I mentioned already was bland. - Service: The staff is really nice and very dry accommodating! If this review was based on that alone, I would be a 5 because they were great. But the focus is the food and it just didn't meet the mark. So long old friend! I don't doubt that they make a good pizza but maybe skip the deep dish and appetizers.

Terrible food. Do not recommend. Pizza dough was flavorless and not prepared well. The loaded fries were flavorless as well, no effort was made in regard to how much was added to them. Overall tasted very bad and was overpriced. Had made better experiences with Windy City on Kempsville Rd in Chesapeake.

The best of Chicago Windy City Pizza you must Order ahead of time worth the wait or you can sit in and it still worth the wait but you must be hungry

Ordered a pizza with Italian sausage. Delivered with no sauce and no cheese. I cannot imagine anyone sending this out the door. The manager told me there was nothing she could do, I should have specified that I wanted sauce and cheese in the door dash app.

Ordered takeout never again! This was strike 3 for us! Staff was so rude - they basically hung up on us the previous time! We ordered 2 basic pizzas and told ready in 15-20 mins went to pick up but 25 mins later and we were told it would be another 45 minutes! They yelled and refused to admit they messed up-And so rude-pizza was for my wife's birthday so thanks for ruining our day-we did not deserve that at all. Never again!

Drove an hour and a half to get the Deep dish pizza, and we were told that it is going to take about 45 minutes to an hour to make the pizza, however, there are not enough sitting in the restaurant maybe 5-6 tables and it is was very hot and humid outside so we left. I recommend to call ahead of time and ask for a pick up...

REAL TALK: I came here because of the name, and the fact that they had the pizza puff on their menu. I couldn't believe my eyes that there was a Chicago-style pizza joint in the area! Their menu was extensive, offering thin crust, deep dish, and even gluten-free pizzas, various appetizers, wings, salads, dinner plates, sandwiches, and desserts. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +the Southside Special Deep Dish - with pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onions +the pizza puff Unfortunately, the pizza was just super wet and soggy, and not sure if it was cooked all the way through or not. The pizza puff was definitely from Il Taco, but the orders I received had corn meal on the bottom, which was not cool - not sure if it got there mistakenly, or if that's how they serve it here? I loved the names of their specialty pizzas, because it makes me miss Chicago even more (the 'Pulaski', the 'Cicero', the 'Maxwell St', etc.) - super cute! The decor was great as well, with the Chicago sports team memorabilia and the Blues Brothers sculpture up at the front. Staff was welcoming and friendly, and there's plenty of parking in the plaza lot. The deep dish pizza was phenomenal, exactly like Chicago original. The tomato sauce was so fresh and the inside the restaurant seemed like a really classic pizza joint. The service was really fast and helpful. Overall I'd go here again if I'm craving some deep dish pizza!

We're back a year later on a Friday night. They are open for dine-in and I saw the Blues Brothers! Ordered a couple of pies-1/2 cheese/1/2 Pepp, Sausage & Pepp, Sausage, Onion. Crust was thicker this time with an abundance of cheese. Delicious tomato Sauce was everywhere on top as it should be and fresh toppings made for the Deep Dish pizza I was craving! We also got the hot wings which were just right spicy. They have only boneless now . This time decided to try some dessert. House made Reese's Cheesecake was amazing as well the Oreo bar and brownie which had this chocolatey lava filling that took it over the top. Friendly and enthusiastic people behind the counter. If you're craving Chicago Deep Dish while at the beach, look no further!

Okay- so now I know that Chicago style pizza isn't my favorite. My personal impression is more like three stars, but since it is *the place* to get Chicago style deep dish pizza in the area and my friend loved it, I'm going to go ahead and round up to four. What it really comes down to is I don't love sauce. So having such a forward-facing saucy experience isn't something that really excited me. But what does excite me is all that cheese hiding under the sauce. That was excellent! The pie was cooked well. I ordered to-go during these COVID-19 times and it was ready when I arrived too. (I did order for pick up at 5:15, I hears a little closer to dinner time sometimes there is an extra wait.) It does take 45 minutes, so be prepared to have some patience no matter what time you order. I will say that the leftovers tasted almost as good as it did fresh. Pizza is truly magic that way. It's a great spot- just not my personal preference. I'll be revisiting eventually I'm sure- maybe I'll try their meatball sub that everyone raves about.

If you are from Chicago, and miss Chicago thin crust pizza, this place is a must. I am sitting in my hotel like a glutinous monster with the curtains draw so no one can see me devour an entire pie! The experience is unbelievable seriously took me back to being a teenager sneaking out after to school to the local pie shop the smell, taste and look all fit the mark to a T! He's doing it right! Go for sure if you are here! You won't regret it!

What can I say about Windy City pizza? I'd looked forward to trying this pizza for a couple of weeks. I'm a member of a local foodie group and was noting how much I missed a good deep dish, authentic Chicago style pizza. I'd had some of the best in Chicago like Giordano's and Gino's East. I watched some reviews on YouTube for Windy City. I saw that they have two locations, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, and we sat in hours of traffic, driving 2.5 hours away to get to the Virginia Beach location to give Windy City a try. The location looks clean, trendy...there is a pool table, video arcade games (I think I even spotted a pinball machine). There is a photo opportunity heading towards the bathroom with the Blue's Brothers (some 11 years prior, I got a photo with the same set up of the Blues Brothers in a Chicago airport). Very cool. I was excited! Seating was quick. We had called our pizza order in from the road, knowing that it would take about 45 minutes to make, and told them we'd be there for dine in. This was my husband's idea, and quite brilliant, because deep dish pizza's do take a while to make, and we were pressed for time. We were there on a Monday and not during a lunch or dinner rush. I think there was one gal who was serving everyone, so service was not good to say the least, but I'm forgiving because I know a lot of businesses are struggling to find employees these days. She didn't have a lot of tables, but the problem was, when she wasn't busy, she didn't utilize that time wisely by checking on her tables. She instead just stood around at the front of the restaurant, looking out the window, checking her phone, etc. Back to our arrival, we told her that we'd called our pizza in and she seated us in a booth towards the back and got our drink orders. When our drinks came out, I told her that we'd also like to put in for an order of cheesesticks. Our pizza came out in about 15 minutes from the time we'd arrived. It looked legit, but as soon as I bit into it, it was pure disappointment. For those that say (or think) that this is Chicago style pizza, I have to thoroughly disagree. Ugh. The sauce was not flavorful, not nearly enough cheese, not deep enough...I could go on and on, but you get the point. No, just no. When we were finishing up on the pizza, I requested our check. I'd given up on our appetizer of cheesesticks, that should have been done long before we'd been done eating. When I asked for the check, the waitress said, "Do you want your cheesesticks in a 'to go' box?" Normally, if my appetizer hasn't came by the end of my meal, I would request they take it from my check and forget about it. But I was feeling gracious and instead just said, "Sure". I'm glad, because the cheesesticks, even heated up in the microwave the next day, were actually quite good. Maybe their sandwiches, salads or wings are worth stopping for, but deep dish pizza is not. I'll hold out for the real thing when it comes to Chicago style pizza. This is more like Uno's. I say, "No go".

Never been intimidated by a pizza before. This is new territory for me! How many cow years of effort went into the cheese on one deep dish. Inquiring minds want to know how many days my leftovers will last on the car seat. Hmmm

Absolutely delicious deep dish pizza! I truly enjoy Chicago style deep dish pizza and this place is the REAL deal. Gooie, cheesy, flaky crust with delicious topping and stupendous sauce. Anytime I'm in VA beach and have a craving for some deep dish, this is the only place that I'll visit!!

The deep dish was disappointed. Soggy and not much toppings. When it cold it flat liked original pizza . Uno tasted much better than this place . Not coming back here anymore . Money wasted.

Our take out order was done right on time and fresh out of the oven. The poppy seed buns on the dogs were amazing. Felt right out of CHI!

We enjoyed our family experience here on a Friday night! Arrived at 520pm and came just in time before they got busy! First, the service was amazing!!!! The staff was so on point and attentive to the all the families and diners needs. Started with two apps per Amanda our servers recommendation. The fried dough balls and the southwest egg rolls. Dough balls were my fav with creamy ranch sauce but the SW egg rolls were also good, paired with a sweet and sour sauce. We were warned of the 45 min wait for the deep dish pizza. It was 45 mins but worth the wait. Having had Chicago deep dish from Chicago, I would say this was pretty darn close! It was a fun change in Friday night pizza and we would encourage others to check it out!

It took over 30mins to make 4 Chicago Hotdogs!! I'm from Chicago and that's stslow!! The food is good but no way it should be that slow..

Windy City Pizza is so good but you must come with an appetite. That's a bonus right there because at the least you know their pizza will fill you up. Windy City's specialty are deep dish pizzas, which have obviously been made famous in the Windy City of Chicago. They pack on the cheese, which is layered at the bottom of the pie, then they throw in everything but the kitchen sink (if you ask, of course) to guarantee there'll be leftovers. If you're ready to devour some food I recommend the Heart Attack, which is a deep dish with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham AND beef. It is a sight to behold, and unless you come with a few friends you won't finish it. It is delicious to boot, so you can't go wrong. Outside of that, I've tried Windy City's Italian sausage, which is good and can fill you up, too. Service is excellent. I've dined at both locations and their employees (some work at both locations) are super nice. One night last summer, 6 of us came in for dinner at the VB location, not realizing they were about to close. Instead of turning us away they rolled out the red carpet for us and treated us well from start to finish. Because of that I will always recommend Windy City to anyone and everyone. Besides tasty and filling food they have great people in place who will make you feel right at home the second you walk in. JV

I'd love to just Windy City Pizza Is amazing and leave it at that but I'd be doing a huge disservice to the restaurant and to the quality food that they prepare. First off, I'm from Chicago so when I tell you that the décor and the smell of the food took me right back , I know what I'm talking about. I order the Chicago staples that I missed from home which would be the Chicago Hotdogs, the Italian Beef, and the South Side Special pizza. The taste of the food was so on point that I literally felt like I was right back home eating amongst family in a familiar setting. I can't say enough about how the food tastes exactly like what I remember. The best compliment that I can give is that I'm planning on driving down from Richmond every other month and becoming a regular customer. I love the food that much!

Review is for the deep dish pizza only. Every time I have been there the service has been great and the deep dish is fantastic. Parking is easy. Customer service is friendly and personable. A deep dish pizza takes time. The cheerful workers tell ya that up front. Bit of a pizza snob but expertise is in NY style pie. But this is very tasty and meets my criteria for a great meal. Locally owned support them during the pandemic.

I called Windy City for 3 pizzas to be delivered to our house in Sandbridge (less than 20 minutes from their location) and was told the order had to be at least $75.00 in order for them to deliver. So I added wings and fries. Order with delivery fee was over$80.00. Gave them my address and was told delivery would be 45 minutes. I then get a call back saying in order to deliver, they had to charge me another delivery fee. What???? I have never heard of that but we had all driven 6 hours to get here and were hungry so I paid it. Felt like they were blatantly taking advantage but what could I do? Pizza was okay, decent, but nothing to rave about.

I would give 0 stars if I could. We used to order regularly and always received great customer service and quality food. Today we ordered a pizza and wings. The wings were covered in feathers. I called and spoke to a lady (whom I did not know was the wife of the owner) she immediately had an attitude and requested pictures, which I was more than happy to supply. After an error (on my part) with her number I called back. She answered again and immediately had an attitude. After reviewing the pictures she said let me put you on hold while I speak to the owner. She comes back to say he will give us 1/2 half our next order! We couldn't even eat these wings we PAID FULL price for!!! I said I would like to speak to the owner and she said he's busy. I said he can call me back when he's free and that is when she announced she is his wife and I can speak to her only. I said that was unacceptable to pay for wings we couldn't even eat. She said it was only two wings (she is correct that is all I took pics of) I didn't realize I would have to take pics of all the wings! She then said you can come back and I'll make you two wings. Horrible and disgusting!!! We will NEVER be back.

I stumbled upon Windy City Pizza when needing to be in the area for work. The Chicago sports items are all good and fine but the food is really what makes me feel that I'm back in Chicago. The Italian Beef is the real deal but it's the deep dish pizza that brings me back to Windy City frequently. I highly recommend their deep dish but the thin crust is also pretty good!

While the decor was cool here the service wasn't awesome by any means. The waitress said oh sense you spent over $50 here's a $10 gift card the pizza was shit they use frozen French fries I'm still pissed off how bad the food tasted at the Virginia Beach location. I hope the Chesapeake location has better everything.

This does not reflect their food as I have not tried it after an attempt to eat at both the VA Beach and Chesapeake locations. They say they are open until 8:30, but its quite squishy. We were in Chesapeake and decided to stop by right before 8pm and we were told they closed the dining room early. Tried in VA Beach a few weeks later after calling to confirm we could eat in if we arrived before 8. Nope. The Chicago pizza takes 45 minutes so it has to be ordered before 7:45. So really you need to be there at 7:30 at the latest and order immediately. I wish they were explicit about it on their website.

Being from the Windy City myself, when I first learned of Windy City Pizza, boy was I excited. When I went to review their menu and saw Pizza Puffs, Italian Beefs and the infamous Deep Dish Pizza, I knew they were authentic! Windy City is always my go to when I am craving amazing pizza. Their toppings are always fresh and the pizza is always piping hot when you pick it up. You cannot go wrong with the other items on the menu as well. The Pizza Puffs are delicious and so flavorful. Please check them out for great pizza!

While the pizza is GREAT, posting a warning. Do NOT buy the rock solid deals and expect to use it easily at this venue. The restaurant refused to honor the deal because it wasn't printed. It's 2023. Why would a printer be required when a QR code is available on the screen? All the vendor has to do is log in to the site and scan my code to mark it as used. They refused, citing... what if I tried to use it again or go to the other location. If you scan the QR code on my screen on your merchant login, it's marked as used and cannot be used again. I asked if I could email it to the owner and delete it. No. Zero options. We drove 25 minutes one way to utilize what I paid for. Manager's response: I was going to offer you a discount, but I'll just go ahead and walk away. Ok. Windy City... if you refuse to be flexible on paper and ink, don't participate in these programs.

Sat for 20 minutes to be seated with no service. They came by and looked at us multiple times until we left.

We walked in at 6:40pm and looked at the menu for what we wanted to order. A lady in the kitchen said someone would come by to take our order, to which we thanked her and waited. A different lady came up to take our order and was incredibly condescending and rude. She immediately asked if we called ahead and we told her we were hoping to dine-in, seeing as though they supposedly close at 9:00pm. She told us that dine-in (conveniently) closes at 6:30pm and that 95% of what they have to offer on the menu was not available to order. Nothing on their website mentioned when dine-in closes either. I'm not even irritated that they couldn't seat us. It was the ugly demeanor displayed by the woman we spoke with. While she talked to us she was putting her hair in a ponytail and smacking her gum in her mouth. Ew? Not to mention, while looking up other reviews I noticed how the owner likes to respond with a condescending and defensive attitude rather than taking accountability for the actions of his employees. I implore anyone reading this to go somewhere else. It is not worth your time.

Disappointed! I love their pizza but today my friend wasn't feeling pizza so we ordered sandwiches. Never again! I ordered for delivery the Italian sausage sandwich, added onions and sauce on the side. $.50 up charge for those few onions? Also and this may be my fault based on my upbringing, but I didn't expect them to be raw! Also paid extra for fries and they were not done all the way, so the only positive out of this was the delivery time in the pouring rain.

Yum this was delish! We picked up a pizza and had it at home. It has yummy deep dish flavors and reminded us of being home in the mid-west. Can't wait to come back again!
