Wine Escape

What a perfect gem of a place! This is a small narrow place just a block away from the theater district. We stopped in for a drink and appetizer before heading to see a show. It is nice and quiet -- with an excellent wine list. We had a simple hummus plate, but it was delicious and so flavorful. This was just a great spot a little away enough that it's not full of tourists -- very calm and quiet. We will definitely plan to come back and try more of their menu in future visits before shows. Service was great as well.

Uger was excellent and provided Ana amazing experience! You need to check this place out and visit during the Happy Hour. I tried this Pino Tage from South Africa that was delicious. If you are near 9th and 44th you should definitely check this place out for a tasty glass of wine!

This place is FANTASTIC. Wine is lovely, ambiance is cozy and quaint, and the staff is delightful. Highly recommend a stop - must get the avoganush and pierogies!! Although near Time Square, a place locals will adore!

The wine bar had an impressive selection, and the staff was knowledgeable about pairings. The ambiance was cozy, perfect for a quiet night out. It does get crowded on weekends, so I’d recommend going early to secure a table. A perfect place for wine lovers.

I sat at the bar and the two bar /staff guys sat there and where chatting together the whole time. Kind of distracting. Wine and food was good. Next time I’d suggest sitting at a table

The name is apt. This is the perfect place to stumble upon and stop in to escape the noise. My mom and I enjoyed our time here. The wine was great and so was the atmosphere. The woman who served us was welcoming and friendly. Loved talking with her.

What a treasure! If you want a local, quaint wine tasting/ cheese spot, head there now. We were assisted by Ugur, the knowledgeable young man who turned on to several great wine's both domestic and primarily foreign. Likewise, the cheese board, warm pitas bread and the fig spreads were fantastic! I will be sending my friends here and most definitely return next visit to NYC.

I visited Wine Escape after 9 PM, and I'm so glad they were open! This charming little spot features outdoor and window seating, perfect for soaking in the NYC vibe. I opted for the wine flight, which was a highlight--I loved being able to curate my own selections for a fun tasting experience. To accompany my wine, I tried the spinach artichoke dip, and it was delicious! The service was impressively quick, and the staff were incredibly friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Overall, Wine Escape is a fantastic intimate spot for late-night wine lovers. Highly recommend checking it out!

This is a great, cozy spot to get wine and snacks. I came in after a long week and was in no mood to decide what I wanted to order. Thankfully, the team there had a ton of great recommendations and helped me pick out my flight. Their selection is varied and top quality, and they have everything ranging from a pet nat orange wine from Austria to a bold, spicy Italian red. The snacks are good. We enjoyed the flatbread.

Pleasant surprise for the area. After hunting for a place that has enough varied reds by the glass, we came across this gem. Super small and did not have any food here but definitely worth a try. They have a small bar area as well as few small group tables and an outdoor shed out front. The highlight is the wine menu. Many places have started to reduce variety of wines by the glass. This place has enough variety from different regions that you'll likely find what you're in the mood for. The crowd will throw you off as the area tends to have more theater district and/or out of towners. It has more of a bar that serves wine as opposed to a "wine bar" if that makes sense. Enjoyable but definitely a different vibe. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Only had reds but can say they were priced fairly and very enjoyable.

The beau and I hit this cozy little spot before a show. While new to us, apparently this hidden gem has been here for quite a while. I'm glad we finally discovered it. We enjoyed happy hour wine and some absolutely delicious food. The cheese cigars were intriguing to us so we ordered. The beau enjoyed them more than I but they were a nice starter. We had the pear and Roquefort salad which was perfectly dressed and the cheese was so tangy and creamy. A perfect "pearing" lol. We followed this with the chicken shish. The chicken was very tender and seasoned so well. I loved the hummus and tzatziki accompaniments. The food is beautifully presented and comes out fairly quick. It seemed as if this was a one man show for the front and back of the house as we never saw another employee. Kudos to the gentleman who pulled this off so well! We will definitely be back.

We popped into this wine bar just to grab an after lunch pour & Irem was the absolute best! She helped us find great wines & we talked for almost 2 hours with her! It's such a cute spot. & the music is wonderful!

Quiet, cozy (tiny!) place with small bites and nice service, near Times Square. Recommended!

I think this bar atmosphere was good, but the food and wine selection was ok. I tried the Gruner Veltliner and a Bordeaux. Both are around $15 and the qualities were just alright. I'd rather pay $20 to get better wines. The food are actually not bad. The artichoke dip was creamy. Chicken was well seasoned, and the flatbread was crispy, although the beef chorizo tasted like a cheap sausage. Overall it's a good place to hang out but not much to say about the food and wine. 3 stars - okay

Great small little spot with a selection of glasses and bottles. The charcuterie was on point as well and prices very reasonable and service great. Some of the crowd was a bit odd but it's Hells Kitchen!

A cute little wine bar nestled between Hell's Kitchen and the tourist district of Midtown. They have an impressive range of wines, including an Australian Shiraz and a French Champagne by the glass, not options you see every day. Service was friendly but there was just one person working so ordering was slow at times. Prices were pretty typical for a Midtown bar with most wines being between $15-20. I didn't try the food myself but it did look good.

This spot is everything good about New York City! In a space the size of a large studio apartment they manage to do it all . Cheese selection is spot on. I take all visitors to nyc here, whether first timers or local yokels .

What a perfect hidden gem!!! Part of me almost wants to be selfish and not write about it because it's so perfect I want to keep it to myself but it would be mean of me to keep this from others. The wine selection is lovely, the food selection is a perfect array of snacks and full meal options all delectable. The service was like being in a friend's home and the cozy, warm environment just wraps this up in a perfect bow. Put this on your list of must visits!

The place was very pleasant, indoors had a very nice decor but the music was too loud so I sat outside. I went on the earlier part of evening and it was nice and relaxing. The outside sitting area had a nice garden. They have a good selection of vegetarian options. I ordered the Labneh, it was good but could of used a bit more salt or lemon or seasoning, not sure. I also ordered the three cheese plate, it was good. The presentation on wooden board could use a little help to make it more apetizing.

I got suckered into attending a $35 "wine tasting" event here on a Saturday avening.    It was advertised as an outdoor event in a tent and I arrived to find the indoor/COVID outdoor setting.  The event was advertised as running from 5:00-7:30pm but I arrived at 5:45pm and was advised that I had just missed the open bar (highly unusual to have open bar before a wine tasting) and that the actual wine tasting started at 6:30p.  Unlike most establishments with even an ounce of basic hospitality, they did not offer a beverage to make up for all that was missed during the alleged open bar.  As 6:30pm neared, the manager and staff made it clear that no tasting would be provided unless we ponied up at least another $25 for food.   ($60 for a 4-pour tasting of $15 bottles of wine is beyond absurd.)  It was a naked money grab. The restaurant was otherwise very small ( with a 7-top bar and 3 dining tables) and nondescript.  The only thing that distinguished it was the abysmally bad service.  It is some of the absolute worst that I've experienced in all of my years in New York.

Adorable simple wine bar! Stopped by this little spot last night on our way to dinner. It's a charming place with a good selection of wines! Can't speak to the food because we ordered olives and nuts to munch on with our glasses of reds. Service was good even as we sat in the window spot which wasn't the easiest for the bartender to get to. Great vibes and would have stayed for another glass if we weren't heading to dinner!

This was such a cute little Wine restaurant. The wine is amazing. The appetizers were delicious. The main course was even better. To top it off, the service was impeccable. I'd definitely go back on my next vacation trip to NY. Sorry no pictures of the filet mignon or croquet entrees...we dug right in and forgot to take photos.

Came here when my phone died. Best accident to have happened. The wine and service was great and everyone was really accommodating. Would definitely go back here. It is the perfect spot for both a solo date or for a romantic date.

I gave this place four stars because of the service; our waitress was just a sweetheart who went out of her way to make sure we had a good time. From free champagne (once she learned we were out for my birthday) to a free shareable dessert that was courtesy of one of the staff who overheard that we were celebrating my big day, it just made for a great experience. I wish I could remember her name! Anyway, it is a quaint little spot nestled in a Midtown neighborhood and if we ever find ourselves on this side of town, we'll stop on by for a few sips.

Absolutely loved this place. Loved the wine, service, and atmosphere. The bartender was really nice and picked the most delicious Spanish wine for my friend and I to try. She also didn't hold back on the pour like with other wine bars (cough cough Ardesia). There's most bar seating with a couple tables. I saw some people order food but I didn't know what the options were.

Visiting Manhattan, looking for a nice local wine bar with quality food? This is the place. Not a huge wine list, but covers all the bases. I had a Chenin Blanc to start, a Roquefort/Pear Salad, then a Cab with my filet mug on main. Excellent! Be sure to stop by!

We spent 6 days in NYC and this place quickly became our favorite. We came 3 times and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and wonderful wine and food. Ugur was a wonderful bartender and remembered us on our second visit, even remembering what I ordered 2 nights prior. We will miss Ugur and Wine Escape when we go home.

I just recently was in Manhattan for a Broadway heavy trip. As such, many of the surrounding eateries are tourist hell zones and I try to stay away while staying close to the theaters. It's a legitimate challenge! I found Wine Escape while looking for a pre-show drink and it was literally one of my favorite spots of the trip. First, they had Albariño by the glass. That is the quickest way to sail into my heart. The bartender was super friendly but not overbearing. I wanted rose for my second drink and he recommended me a unique one that I never would have tried on my own-- it was amazing! We also shared the meatballs and they were super tender and flavorful. This cute little spot was the perfect escape from the chaos that is Times Square. I was surprised at how reasonably priced things were-- very similar to Chicago prices. I would come here all the time if I lived nearby.

Let me preface this by saying, we don't drink. And, often, it gets a little irritating when we go to a tapas restaurant, that also thrives on its "wine bar" component, and we feel either ignored or looked at funny because of it. As you can guess from my rating, this place did none of that. We felt welcome and at home, in this adorably quaint, intimate atmosphere, and relatively small tapas and wine bar. One of the things we love to do is randomly choose a tapas place when we are out on date night. (Hey, we just celebrated 14 years, so we must be doing something right.) So, that's what we did after leaving a Broadway show. This was not around the corner, but it seemed like a great choice. Turns out, it was even better than we expected. The waiter, who was European, had one of those personalities that initially comes off as uppity, don't bother me. But, you'd be wrong to stereotype that way. Okay, at first, he definitely was a bit of that. LOL. However, it was also 10:30 p.m. on a Tuesday. As the night went along, he was quite charming and conversational (well, with the people next to us on the long communal table that makes up the dining area. FYI, at first the woman who seated us tried to put us at the bar in the room next to the one with the dining table. Thankfully, she found space for us at the table. I definitely recommend if you're there to eat, wait for a space to open up. The bar area is cute if you're just drinking or chatting. But not if you're out on a date or looking to enjoy the meal. Anyway, I digress. Back to the waiter ... by the end of the evening, he had delivered tip-top, awesome service and couldn't really ask for better. (And, I'm married to a man who is a server in a restaurant. I know how tough it can be.) The food. This is where they knocked it out of the park. They had some kind of a special on the oysters. So, we started out with a dozen. Fresh and delicious. Then came the calamari. I thought I was ordering fried calamari. I tend not to like regularly cooked calamari. But, I couldn't blame them because I didn't read the menu fully, so we kept it. OMG, it was perfect and delicious. We finished it off. I'd definitely order it again. Jayson had the lobster salad. It was good. Nothing amazing or earth shattering. But, it was nice. Then I ordered the tuna tartare, which was unbelievably good. Jayson had something else too, which I can't remember what it was, but I know he was very pleased with it. Overall, this place was amazing. Great service. Mostly great food. A bit small and it can feel a little claustrophobic. Definitely recommend. Highly.

Cozy bar located close to Port Authority, nice to visit after a long day. Prices are affordable and they offer vegetarian options. I loved that my emotional support dog was welcome and they gave him water. The atmosphere and music definitely worth it, too. Would definitely come back.

We stayed in an apartment upstairs above Wine Escape for a week in July. With all of the restaurants in Hell's Kitchen, we went to Wine Escape twice! I think my husband would have eaten there a third time! We love Ugur and will miss him and will definitely visit him again the next time we are in town. The cheese cigars were my daughter's favorite and the Filet Mignon and the Crispy Salmon are amazing! Great wine list...loved the cool, crisp Rose on a hot summer day! :P The interior restaurant is quiet, cozy and cool. There's a fun outside seating area (which we could see from our apartment) but we liked the more intimate seating inside. We are hoping to enjoy a nice cabernet at the bar with Ugur this fall!

I want to give this place maybe 3.5 stars out of 5. Had a pleasant experience but considering that it was supposed to be a wine bar I feel like the wine cups were kind of cheap-looking? Also poured way too much wine which filled above the middle portion of the glass which was a bit strange. Surprisingly the falafel appetizer was good but nothing out of the ordinary. There also wasn't a big selection of wines.

Came here on a Thursday night and there was a decent amount of people. Luckily we were able to get seats for a party of 2 in the back. The restaurant space is pretty small so there's limited seating, but the setting itself is quite intimate and great for dates or to catch-up with friends. Ambiance is rather cozy though. Food menu is rather limited and it's a lot more small bites and tapas to share. We ordered the meatballs ($14) since they were highly recommended in other comments and a cheese charcuterie plate ($24) The charcuterie plate comes with a basket of pita bread, which to my disappointment weren't as warm as mentioned in other comments; Nevertheless I'm still happy that we were given pita bread to go with everything! My favorite cheeses were definitely the manchego and goat Gouda! I highly recommend those! The truffle was a little stronger and a little more pungent, but I enjoyed the creaminess of it. The meatballs were good and honestly pretty filling for two people. It wasn't too dry and hard to chew. We also ordered a glass of Cabernet and Shiraz. The Cabernet was delicious, full bodied, dry and complemented the meal well. The Shiraz was a medium to full bodied wine with some fruity tones to it, but enough tannins to keep it dry! I highly recommend these two wines! Overall, I would definitely come back here to try their other cheese and wine selections! I thought the selections were perfect and the setting was great for catching up with a friend!

Ordered from here tonight for the first time. I ordered the Chroizo Hummus Flatbread. It was $16. Being so, I thought it would be a decent size and possibly filling. It was neither! Ugh. But it did taste okay. Not much flavor in the hummus. It was packaged neatly and my one item was correct. Delivery was on time. Flatbread was not hot though. It was noted in seamless as a "thin crust pizza with hummus and beef chorizo." It was more like a cracker with hummus on top and beef chorizo. The beef chorizo was good. This was not what I was expecting though. And because I spent $22 total on this appetizer, I will not be ordering from here again. It's just not worth it with all the other choices around. The flatbread was thin, hard and crunchy. Fold it and it crumbles. It was a cracker, not thin crust pizza. Not for me!

This place is perfect for a date night, girl's night, or any time you want to catch up with a friend. It's cozy and quiet. The food is great and I appreciated the vegetarian options which are often lacking at other wine bars. My favorite was the warm pita they give with the hummus. We picked three cheeses which were all unique and delicious. Service was great and wine was even better. I'll definitely be back.

Cozy wine bar with good selection of wine and food! I really enjoyed my experience here. Nothing to complain about about the place, but we could smell weed from the group next to us which made the experience not perfect. Nonetheless, great ambience to catch up with friends/colleagues/date night

Such a cute little wine bar! We've been here a few times and have enjoyed their specialty cheese plates and great wine pairings. Especially love their cheese cigars with crispy phyllo dough wrapped around feta cheese and lightly fried. Always had very attentive and knowledgeable bartenders that have always made good suggestions. Love this place!

Always reluctant to publicize a hidden gem that is easy to get into. But, they deserve it. Fun little hole in wall in an area that is usually overcrowded and packed with tourists. It's the kind of place you expect to find on a small street in the Village. Friendly barman, welcoming environment, and a nice place to stop if you are in the area before or after theater. Shhhhh. Don't tell lots of people about it or you will ruin it.

This is a hidden gem. Not easy to find, small entrance sign if you are walking distracted you might pass right thru it without notice! From the outside Wine Escape may not look like much, but its worth a visit if in the area Wine and food aside, it was a great place to sit down for a bite and actually have a conversation; wouldn't say it's off the beaten path but the atmosphere inside the quaint wine bar is simple and relaxed. The perfect place to share a bottle of wine and a plate of meats and cheese or their delicious flatbread! Bartender is super friendly and knowledgeable

I highly recommend the Wine Escape! We came here before a 5pm show for appetizers and wine. The ambiance is so relaxing and chill. They had a great music playlist and the food was incredible. We ordered the pork sliders and the cheese cigars.....both were delicious! The wine selection is not huge but we had a nice glass of cab. There are so many other food items I want to try will definitely be back on our next trip to NYC!

Ordered using the app, as advised, only to be told the "send order" didn't work, so just tell her what I want. I ordered a bottle of French Chardonnay, received a Californian Chardonnay, same price " but this is better, it has a cork!"

Post-theatre enchantment for some wine as I search my Yelp bookmarks and made a great choice to Wine Escape. My server is Melissa who welcomed me with warmth and delight, despite of being induced with wine alone. Wine Escape is a quaint little wine bar in the NY theatre district, but the server and bar tender are knowledgeable and welcoming hospitality to patrons. (Wow, such as refreshing attitude from what I am so accustomed of the typical abrasive snide, vulgar and dishonest NYC attitude. Yes, there are nice good people in this world!) We briefly chatted about the weekend and I expressed my upcoming birthday 2016 and my new immersion with Broadway's "Aladdin." I opt for: one glass Bourgogne 2014 (France) Pinot Noir $14.00 - yum Polish Pierogi Dumplings $11.00- small portion but good Feta Cheese Cigars $10.00 - slightly salty but good Restroom is clean and there are hooks under the bar for jackets and bags. Wine goblets are a generous size not the microscopic tasting glass. I would buy a bottle as the staff is knowledgeable in wine rather than a sketchy liquor store. Upon my departure, my server Melissa gave me a warm bear hug for my birthday and I thank her for making it memorable. I would surely return to be induced with more wine and in the company of a new friend.

Pretty great space to grab some wine and chill with some friends. Wine options were great, and had tried the seafood linguini and the spinach avocado dip. The pasta was tasty, however, the dip was overly watery for some reason and wished it had more flavor or cheese. Overall, would come back again.

I wonder why I don't do this more often, go to a wine bar and enjoy a glass (or two) of wine paired with a great cheese plate. Oh yeah, I know why, I'm always on a budget, ugh...lol I heard about this place from a friend. We stopped by after work one day. The place is small but cozy. The bar area was to the front, which maybe could seat approximately 8 to 10? There were a few tables to the back. There was also seats by the window if you want to drink and people watch. My friend and I were able to snag a corner spot at the bar behind the window seats, as it wasn't too crowded at the bar, but it seemed as if all the tables were all occupied, but I couldn't tell as I was towards the front. We ordered a bottle of wine, rose. It was crisp and refreshing, perfect since it was unusually warm that day...(it was also a bit warm inside but I think they turned on the air, not sure but I wasn't as hot once I settled in.) We also ordered babaganoush and a cheese plate. For the cheese plate, there was an option of choosing either 3 or 5 kinds of cheese, we chose 3; Goat Gouda, Manchego, and Midnight Moon. It came with a side of warmed pita bread, fig spread, truffle honey, garnished with dried apricot and walnut pieces. The menu theme seemed to be Mediterranean-ish.

Fantastic spot for pre theater drink & eat. Great location. Spotted the sign above the door as I was passing by & figured let's give it a go. So happy we did! Walking in You feel as if you stumbled into a fabulous NYC secret. Small space inside, they do have larger outdoor space streetwise. It's a posh & charming space. Must've hit it at a perfect time bc there was a table right by the bar. Service is spectacular. Ordered 3 apps & a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The spinach artichoke dip, perogies and cheese sticks were delicious! Looking forward to going again and getting their charcuterie.

The Wine Escape is just that-- a little escape from the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan. You'll find that it is this little wine bar tucked away with a long bar and a handful of tables towards the back. They have a limited food menu, and I feel that this place is more appropriate for light appetizers to go with your vino. My friend and I split the falafel app and the hummus. Both, were fantastic.

4.5 stars for a friendly bartender with a generous pour, a chill spot just off busy Ninth Avenue, good wine selection, and fresh pita with a nice hummus. Happy hour ends at 6p. This is a great little spot, the kind of place that is small enough to both make you feel at home and also make you wonder how they continue to stay open when so much these days is about flashy, loud, and large experiences. I love small, intimate places like this where you can meet an old friend - or bring a date - and just relax and feel at home. We sampled several wines rather than sticking to just one, don't judge me! The happy hour red was decent, the lambrusco was a bit flat, and the sancerre was a perfect end to the night. Strongly recommend.

Service was fine as was decor. Sat outside on the well done street area. Wine selection was average for NYC, lots of closeouts which is fine though as it was the majority of the list you could tell making a profit is foremost over customer experience.

The server was nice but we would never ever come here again. Normally my best friend and I will have about five or six drinks each time we go out. At Wine escape the pours were SO TINY that we literally had 14 drinks! We actually mentioned it to her that they were so small and on our final round she poured a normal pour. But we are people who spend a lot of money at bars and we go out several times a week and this was the one place where it was we not worth it. Never again

It was with a bit of trepidation that we made our way here for a Saturday evening bit of light food and wine. What gave me pause was the thought that really, is there a place this close to the Theater District where you can get in the door on a Saturday evening and still get decent service and food and drink without everything that comes with this area of town? Tiny Wine Escape delivered. Seating maybe 20, it's sort of the experience you find a good distance from this area of town. Knowledgable staff, good wines, good food, and what's this??? You can have a conversation without shouting. We opted for olives and some brut to start. Ordered one glass to share, server divided it up into two small glasses for us. Points scored. Followed up with a Zin and a Shiraz, both fine, and a cheese and charcuterie platter that came with fig jam, warm slices of pita, walnuts, dried apricots and a few other things that slip my mind. Finished with two small ports. Bliss, just the right amount of everything at the end of a nice 3 day stay in the city, headed home tomorrow. This is a little slice of heaven in an otherwise nutty area of town. Service was a bit curt, possibly a bad night from one server on what otherwise should be a 5-star experience. The guy in the kitchen that delivered some foods though was on point--guessing that's indication he's the owner. Wouldn't let that experience prevent us from returning again. That was a fine evening.

Wine Escape is a pretty cozy bar. It isn't pretentious and is the kind of place where you can just go with friends and catch up with each other. The downsides are that it is a little cramped especially during peak hours. There is limited seating so probably a better experience to go when it first opens and isn't so packed. The wine list isn't that extensive. Nothing out of the ordinary on the wine list itself but I was very happy to see some unique choices on the daily specials and ordered from there. Still, if you come on a day where they have great specials or just want a quick glass of wine it could be a fun place to catch up with some friends.

I usually do not do wine bars...I don't mind a good glass of wine here and there after a nice out for dinner or entertaining company but my idea of a night out usually doesn't involve wine. When my brother in law suggested this spot for me and my sister to go to I was a tad bit skeptical at first but after stopping by wine escape a few nights ago I must say I was very pleased with the experience here. This place is very quaint and tiny so if you do plan on coming here I suggest leaving it to 4 people, MAX! Not to call them bartenders but I guess wine...concierge were attentive. I had a glass of Avondale Chenin Blanc. Very tasteful btw...along with some cheese. Let me tell you, the sophistication factor you feel after having wine and cheese in a place like this is raised a few bars...(no pun intended.) If you want to impress a date and I mean someone you care about or see yourself being with in a real deal relationship and not just someone random who you're just killing time with...take your date here! You will not regret it! Intimacy and sophistication at it's best at Wine Escape.

I wish I were not updating this place with a lower star rating. I still love coming here. The ambiance is great, the staff is very friendly, and the wine options are enticing. However, the food quality has gone down since I started coming here several years ago. I keep going back because I like this place so much and keep thinking that maybe "last time was an off-day." But I return only to be reminded that the food is not as good as it used to be. They still have the same offerings, but not the same taste and texture. The falafel is not soft on the inside, but instead are a bit hard and dry. The hummus is not soft and creamy anymore, now it's a bit dryer and more solid. Also, I enjoyed the zucchini pancakes when they were little pancakes and not one huge pancake. However, the zucchini pancake is still a star among the other offerings. I wish they would go back to the better quality food preparation from a few years ago.
