"The jerk chicken wings at Winston’s, a Jamaican trailer in South Austin, have quickly made their way into our monthly rotation. They’re smoky and tender inside with bits of char on the skin. These wings are a little more focused on flavor and tenderness than ultra-crispy skin, but when they’re coated in an intense layer of spicy jerk seasoning like this, that’s a compromise we’re willing to make. They’re also priced by the wing, so you can make a full meal out of them, or just order a couple to accompany your oxtails.   " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

"Winston’s Kitchen is a Jamaican trailer near Brodie and Slaughter Lane and, outside of a visit to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, it’s one of our favorite reasons to make a visit to southwest Austin. And if you happen to live in the area, you probably already know all about Winston’s, especially when it comes to the jerk chicken, some of our favorite in town. The meat is smoky and tender, with little bits of char on the skin. Generously seasoned with jerk spices, the chicken definitely pack some heat. Even if you end up getting something else—like oxtails, red snapper, or beef brisket—the jerk wings are priced individually, so you can throw a couple on for a nice savory side. photo credit: Richard Casteel" - Nicolai McCrary

Absolutely delicious!!! We ordered jerk chicken plate, beef patties, chicken wrap, beef wrap, and plantains. At the last minute we added wings and they did not disappoint!! They were fabulous!! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Not to mention the service was incredibly friendly. Highly recommend Winston’s!

I got the oxtail which was incredible-best in town! My husband had the jerk chicken and loved it. Music was on point and there’s shaded outdoor seating. Support this Austin institution!

I got jerk chicken plate and fried plantains. Chicken was heavenly - so tender off the bone. I've had other places make it too salty or too spicy, but Winston's chicken was just perfect! I can also see his attention to detail in quality of rice and side veggies. It was a spontaneous trip this time (we were shopping at Lowe's) but we are sure to come back again soon!

Service was OK. But the food I mean, it wasn’t dry but being Jamaican genetics and Trinidad and culture raised the food was kind of bland. There really wasn’t any flavor to the meat or the rice. It just kind of tasted like the fat from the oxtail didn’t have like a Caribbean flare like it wasn’t sweet or bright or anything like that, I wouldn’t say it was necessarily bad but I wouldn’t write Home about. decent portions The pepper sauce kind of tasted kinda like they weren’t trying to offend anybody. It just really feels like great grandma needed to come around and keep the Standards up. Almost feels like they’re pandering to the local Texan pallet. Shame because I can’t really find a legitimate Caribbean place in Austin that truly serves authentic tasting food that really has that punch that you get when you go to the Caribbean. I’ll come back probably for some thing if other people want it that are not Caribbean blooded but I wouldn’t bring my cousins if they visited.

Winston! Who are you and HOW is your food SO DAMN GOOD? I have to be honest, if someone asked me "what's your favorite cuisine?" I don't think Jamaican would break my top 5. But wow, after last night, it certainly is now a mainstay with us. We had the curry chicken, jerk chicken, plantains, guava cake, and the heavenly beef patty. Not exaggerating, every BITE was 10/10. I had flavors that I've never had before but the warmth and love from the food was as nostalgic as your grandma's cooking. The homemade hot sauce-- divine. You can just tell this place cares and takes pride! Until I get back here, I'll be telling everyone in ATX about my new favorite spot.

I have been eating spicy foods and hot peppers for many years, but never had jerk chicken before. Now I know just how good it is thanks to Winston's Kitchen. I have been using Winston's Hot Sauce for many years, but now have a bottle of his Coming in HOT! Truly amazing heat with the awesome taste of all Winston's sauces. I simply loved the rice and vegetables that came with the Jerk Chicken Plate. I am certain I will return soon and often to try all the rest that Winston's Kitchen has to offer. Many thanks to Winston!!! Don't forget to try the wings.

I was so excited to finally try this but was a bit disappointed. The jerk chicken was dry and tasted quite bland. The choice for plantains wasn't listed on doordash otherwise I probably would have bought every single one, but hopefully another time. I'll definitely give it another try. We all have off days.

Not bad. Rice & peas was deliciously cooked, mixed with steam cabbage, plantain, callaloo & carrots. My jerk chicken; you can taste the smoke flavor which was a delightful change from the norm. Definitely going back & oh, before I forget, the open air eating on wooden bench with table was nostalgic 👍
